May 20, 2013

Willow tree spring 2013 044We are now enrolling for the 2013 – 2014 school year.

Enrolling for summer camp as well!

The Willow Tree Preschool is an eclectic fusion of philosophies blending a respect for nature, with a focus on art, in a rich, lush, warm beautiful home environment created to meet the needs of the young child, developed with over 20 years of experience.

Willow tree spring 2013 132We are influenced by the progressive early childhood programs of Reggio Emilia, Italy and honor and protect this magical time of childhood. Play is at the core of everything we do, it is through playful exploration that real learning happens, creative thinking evolves, problem solving develops, and true connection and meaning is made; encouraging children to explore and build meaning through their experiences.

The preschool hours are from 9 am to 1 pm for children 3 to 5 years of age.

Best way to find infant care options in/near SE?

January 27, 2013

Hi UrbanMamas!

We moved to Portland recently for my husband's job, and there must be something in the water, because we're already expecting our first child - a baby boy - in June 2013!

As per instructions from almost everyone I know, we're already starting to look into infant care options for when I go back to work full time in September 2013.  We've gotten a few recommendations from my still measly social networks here but mainly we're relying on internet research which seems to be turning up the same few options: ChildRoots, Creative Minds, Grandma's Place, Belmont Academy, CCLC, the OHSU CCLC (we're looking in/near SE).  Or find a nanny.

I figure this can't be all that's out there or 90% of the babies in SE Portland wouldn't have a place to go.  My prenatal yoga instructor says many places just don't have websites.  Does anyone have ideas - specific places or lists of places?  A nanny or nanny share would also be an option.  I work from home and have a fairly flexible schedule, so I don't necessarily need a full-time, 9-6 deal.  On the other hand I've been told not to expect to get any work done if I'm home with the baby, even if there's a nanny there too.  And I do travel for work from time to time, and my husband has VERY long and VERY inflexible hours (he's a resident at OHSU).

Would love to hear from anyone with experience or ideas!  Places you or your friends have sent your babies, lists you've received, other networks you think I should tap into?  Mamas who work from home, any creative ways you've made it work?  Nanny+coworking space?  Would love to hear any and all input!

Thanks SO much,

Beth Stucky (bethstucky1@gmail.com) - that's a number 1 in my email address

Looking for full time day care near Sabin/Alberta for 2.5 yo

I'm looking for full time day care for my daughter (28 months).  She is accustomed to full time day care, and we have just moved into the Sabin/Alberta neighborhood and will need to find local child care, as the commute to her school is too far.

I'm primarily looking for center based care, or Montessori, or similar.  Please post if you know of any openings, or good schools/day cares where we could be on the wait list, or if you have any other suggestions for us, even if they are for 3 years and older.

Thanks very much,
Mishka

Our wonderful nanny is looking for a new family – N, NE, NW, SE PDX

September 26, 2012

Our wonderful nanny Alisa is looking for a new family. With the new baby on the way, we came to heartbreaking decision that live-in nanny would better fit our needs. The problem is, we love our nanny, and we don’t want her to go! So we are on a mission to find new perfect family for her.

Alisa has been with us for the past year, taking care of our finicky son Eydan. She started with us when Eydan was 6 months old and would not sleep for longer than half an hour. Through this year, she was with us with LO getting constantly sick, fussy, teething – you name it – and she never lost her patience. She has been calm, organized presence and she quickly became part of the family.

Alisa is always smiling, on time and imaginative with Eydan’s activities. She has lots of childcare experience and natural love for kids. If you would like any additional information, please feel free to contact us and we will be glad to answer any questions - milka_vevoda@yahoo.com. We will be sure to forward any information to her.  She is flexible with her schedule and ready to start mid-October in N, NE, SE neighborhood.  We highly recommend her and know that her new family will be very happy with her.

Thank you!

Northeast Neighborhood in-home Daycare - a recommendation

August 29, 2012

Our in-home daycare providers are looking for one or two new children to join a great group of kiddos in the Concordia neighborhood. Currently there are children from ten months to two-and-a-half years old, and they are happy to care for children from three months to three years. They are open to part-time or full-time care, in their home.

Our little boy is the youngest of this tiny group now, and he is thriving under their care. He is comfortable, active, and happy during his stay there and when we pick him up he is often tired from a good day's play, but cheerful and still playful. We've been so pleased with our experience that we decided to write this testimonial to help them find their next family or families. We could not offer a greater or more sincere recommendation. Feel free to contact us for a reference and email Keeley at longcoke@juno.com to get more details about their childcare services.

Benjamin and Cecily

Female Professional new to Portland looking for Babysitting clients

August 27, 2012

Hello!

My name is Robyn and I recently relocated from Seattle to the NW District for a great new career opportunity. I am a college educated, single female professional in my mid-thirties and while I don't have any  of my own, I do enjoy spending time with children.

I have years of recent childcare experience with kids ranging from 6-months to 12 years of age. I had a couple of families in Seattle that I would sit for on a regular basis and I really miss them now that I have moved down to PDX.

I work regular hours from Monday to Friday but would be interested in speaking with any families that are looking for the occasional reliable babysitter. I would be glad to meet for an interview and I also have references that would be happy to speak with you and vouch for my character.

Please let me know if you would like to chat. The best to get in touch with me is email robynwoodman@gmail.com.

Thanks so much!

Robyn

Montessori Children's House Open House August 16

August 14, 2012

Header

OPEN HOUSE:

Thursday August 16th, 6-8:00PM

Your family is warmly invited to the Montessori Children's House open house on Thursday August 16th, 6-8:00PM.  Our open houses provide an opportunity for prospective families to meet MCH staff and explore our environment.  We are currently enrolling for the 2012-2013 school year.

IMG_7184

We currently have openings in our Primary program for children over 2-and-a-half years old.  We do have a short waiting list for enrollment in our Toddler Community (ages 15 months through 36 months) until the second semester.

Montessori Children's House offers both Toddler and Primary Montessori programs.  We are located in a dynamic and diverse new Portland neighborhood, the South Waterfront, adjacent to a lovely park and the Willamette River Greenway.

We have mixed-age groups -- a Toddler Community (beginning around 15-16 months) and two Primary classes ranging from two-and-a-half years old up through kindergarten age (6). In 2011-2012 we expanded our program to run two Primary classes, and we still have some openings for September 2012.  We also offer an optional summer program.

IMG_7113

'We toured a total of six schools before we found the right one for our daughter. We even enrolled her in another one prior to Montessori Children's House only to pull her out because we were disappointed in our experience there. I wish that we had discovered this school sooner! It would have saved us a lot of stress.'

Photo 3

'The space itself is gorgeous, all new, beautiful learning areas, just what you would imagine a top notch Montessori school to look like...The location on South Waterfront is very easy to get to and from, parking is right in front of the main door and the teachers will even greet the kids at your car. We highly recommend Montessori Children’s House!'

warm, flexible, creative, patient, silly, capable, experienced toddler caregiver/nanny/regular sitter needed ASAP

August 13, 2012

Hi my family is looking for someone with experience and a passion for working with young children to care for our bright, funny, active, precocious, snuggly, adventurous 17 month old girl. Mom is an educator/teacher/academic/writer who has worked across the age and theory spectrum and has a passion for Reggio Emilia, play based and expereintial  learning. I see children as partners in research and experience as well as learning. Since my daughter was born I've been able to learn with and from her and I'd love to find someone who has a background in Reggio or any of the other educational practices I've mentioned.

Dad works in computer programming from our home office and Grandma (who is a retired educator) live in our in law apartment.

We are looking for someone to give Dad and Grandma a break during the week while I (Mom) will be recuperating from major orthopedic surgery. Hours would be about 15-20 hours a week over the course of 3 weekday mornings (Wednesdays are essential but everything else is open for discussion.) Hours would ideally be something along the lines of 8 or 9 am to 1 or 2 pm.  Primarily we are looking for someone to do the things that I usually do with my active, creative little girl and won't be able to for several months. Trips to the parks near our close in SE home (less than 2 blocks from Kennilworth park, the zoo, OMSI, the children's museum, Mount Scott Community pool (we have membership cards for all of these places), trips to Cafe Au Play, Storytimes, kids music, outdoor adventures and of course just playing and being silly at home.

Because I have no idea what my recovery will look like this is a long term temporary position, somewhere between 4 and 10 months, most likely. This would make a great part time job for a child development student, mom (feel free to bring your toddler or young child), or childcare provider with an afternoon part time position.

Please be over 21 and have at least 5 years varifiable experience. Current infant/child CPR and OCH registration as well as fantastic references would be a HUGE advantage. Please have your own transportaion, insurance and clean driving record or be comfortable using public transportation.

Your primary job will be to take care of our daughter so it would be great if you were comfortable doing projects, helping her clean up, preparing simple kid friendly meals and snacks. We are not looking for a houskeeper, we would love someone who enjoys spending time with our daughter and wants to be included in our close knit family.

Thank you for reading. Please contact Aviva at: aviva@eberlin.net or (503) 528 4833 if this sounds like a good fit for you.

All the best,

Aviva

We are state certified. Childcare options in Oregon include exempt family, registered family, certified family, or center care. There are over 5300 child care homes in Oregon. Of that number just 225 are certified homes. There are about 1020 centers. Certified homes are regulated like centers and have many of the same requirements. Every certified home goes through an annual certification process, unannounced visits and is inspected by the childcare division and the county health department. The certifier also observes the staff working with children. Staff in certified homes must have at least one full year of previous childcare experience or college training in early childhood education, child development, or in a related field.

When making your choice, know that going with a certified and licensed home, you are making a best choice there is! It’s a lot of work, but I feel it's worth it for you and your child’s well being.

Waldorf education is about teaching your child to learn through imitation and action. We recognize each child's unique spirit and strive to be worthy of their imitation. Simply put, learning through the head, heart & hands. 2012-06-21_09-07-02_980

We invite you to come see the school and experience the magic!

“We just love, love, LOVE Apple Blossom! The staff, the home, the warmth & love reaches far above what we ever dreamed about for our daughter! She is thriving in their care and we have been with them for over a yr now. She sings happy songs all day long now & that warms our hearts.” JB

“I highly recommend this beautiful program!” RL

“My son loves playing in their beautiful back yard and calls it the “kid jungle”. I like knowing the food he eats there will be thoughtful and nutritious. I have even learned a few new recipes.” MO

During my short stay in Portland I had the opportunity to visit this Nursery School where my grandson, Manu, goes. I was thoroughly impressed by the exemplary manner in which the school is run. It was encouraging to note how the staff interacted with the children and their parents in such a cordial manner and also stress the importance of the parental role in the overall development of the child. Gratefully remember Miss Carrie, Miss Anne . ~ Rex

Home Isn't a Place, Its a Feeling (In-Home Daycare, Concordia Neighborhood)

August 02, 2012

Our in-home daycare providers are looking for one or two new children to join this great group of tiny people, in the Concordia neighborhood.

Cecily and Benjamin

We currently have openings for children over 2-and-a-half years old.  Our Toddler Community (under this age) is on a waiting list basis until the second semester.

Montessori Children's House offers both  Toddler and Primary Montessori programs.  We are located in a dynamic and diverse new neighborhood, the South Waterfront, adjacent to a lovely park with good facilities, plus the Willamette River Greenway and a lot of other neighborhood amenities.  In the last couple of years, the neighborhood has attracted a number of young families with children, although our families come from a variety of other areas as well.

What our families have to say about us:

"I'm writing this email to thank Brigit's teachers for being so sweet to her while she attended Grandma's place, particularly, Stephanie. She still talks about her everyday and says how much she loves her and frequently carries the card around that she made her. Today she yelled at her dad with the card in her hand "don't ever throw this away, it would make me cry, Stephanie is the best and she made this for me!" and I just about cried! I had a rough time in every childcare center my mom put me in growing up and to know Brigit was so happy when I was away from her makes me feel so good. We will be going to Europe for the summer! And before I started preparing for that, I wanted to be sure to thank you all. Thanks again to everyone for your kindness to my little one, she's had such good (and hilarious) things to say about her experience and grandma's place!"

"I am SO happy with the care and attention my child receives at your facility that I am willing to commute out of my way to get her there, even though there is a daycare across the street from our apartment. Keep up the spectacular work!"

"It's very close to my house, and when I came for a tour, I was pleased to hear about the educational focus--it's not just babysitting, but my child will learn all kinds of skills--social and academic. I also liked that the director was willing to spend so much time showing me around and answering my questions during my tour."
