Hello Portland Families!
My name is Alaina and I am 27 year old, Portland native, who's hoping to find a full time nanny position. I am available M-F and hoping to work at least 30 hours per week, 35 would be a plus but not required. I am available to start as early as March 23rd. My most current job was working at a Pre-school/Daycare called West Hills Learning Center, in Multnomah Village. I started out as the Assistant Teacher in the Pre-K classroom, when I decided to start looking for a nanny job I moved to part time as a floater, which had me working in all of the classrooms 8 months- 5 years old. West Hills was a great place to work, and I learned so much there, with all of the different ages, to teaching styles, and large number of children in each class, I really soaked up as much knowledge as I could to help me in my future child care positions. With that said, I have realized I thrive more in a smaller group setting. I like the intimacy and attention you are able to give each child. I like growing close with the families, and having the time to be able to give updates to the parents about how the day went, and what new fun things we did during the day.
In the past I have worked for the Beaverton School District as a Substitute Teacher's Assistant, I worked in mostly special ed classrooms, and children with behavioral issues, ranging for K-12, I have worked in after school art programs, and I have been a Nanny to multiple families, which I have grown to have great relationships with. Kids age ranging from 3 months-8 years old. Of course I have babysat throughout every job I have had starting at a very early age. With all my past experience I have always gone back to wanting to be a Nanny, I believe it truly is my passion to care for children, and there is no greater feeling then leaving a days work actually feeling like you have made a difference in someones life.
A little about me, and my teaching style. Like I said before, I have grown up in the Portland metro area my whole life, I love Oregon and all if has to offer. Like most Oregonians, I love the lifestyle we are able to have by living here, beautiful day hikes, weekend trips to the Oregon Coast and the Mountain, trying a new awesome restaurant each weekend, eating locally and as healthy as possible. Its very important for me to be active, and healthy, and that is definitely incorporated in when I am watching children. I like to have the kids help me cook, get them involved and show them what its like to eat from the garden, daily walks, and exploring all nature has to offer. Rain or shine, I need to go outside everyday! I very much believe a child's imagination is the most important thing to exercise and discover. Letting the child know they are loved and cared for on a daily basis, making sure they are comfortable and knowing you are there for them with all of their questions and concerns, helping them when they need help, but also letting them try new things on their own, and learning together is the most important thing I can provide as a Nanny and caregiver.
As a Nanny, I would make sure each day we would go outside, hopefully incorporate arts and crafts on a daily basis (because I love art projects as much as the kids do!) read books, prepare healthy snacks, listen and dance to music, explore new parks, and honestly just try to learn and play as much as we can, and have a great time doing it!
I have a 2002 Subaru Outback, which is a very safe and reliable car. I have had my license since I was 16, with an amazing driving record. I recently renewed my First Aid/CPR training in January, and am enrolled in the Criminal Background Check. Thank I am comfortable with pets, and don't mind walking the dog. I am comfortable with meal prep, light house keeping, and running errands. I don't smoke.
Even though I myself am not a mother yet, I can imagine trying to find the right Nanny for your family to be a very hard process. I don't blame the family for wanting to maybe have a lengthy hiring process, or wanting to do a trial run to see if you are a right fit before hiring, and to me that makes so much sense. You can't be too sure when you know this person is going to be watching your children. So with that said, I am available for contact through e-mail or phone. If you're interested I can send my Resume which gives in greater detail my childcare experience, we can chat on the phone before meeting to see if we would be a good fit for each other!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, I am a very caring, reliable, patient, and open minded person, I look at being a Nanny as a career, and not just a job to have until I find something better. I am very excited to find the next family to work with. Thanks again, and I hope to hear from you!
