PT SPANISH TODDLER DROP-OFF PLAYGROUP/ PRESCHOOL LIGHT (INNER SE)

September 05, 2017

We are looking for one or two more toddlers to join our Spanish home-based toddler play group.  Parents drop their kids off for a three hour morning of activities, led by our wonderful native Spanish speaking teacher.  The teacher has been running the same ‘escuela’ for the last ten years.

The ‘escuela’ meets from 9:30am to 12:30pm on Wednesday and Friday mornings. There will be at least four, but no more than five, kids aged between 1.5 and 3 years old. The teacher speaks to the children almost exclusively in Spanish. Their day consists of outdoor play, arts and crafts, music and dancing, and parent packed snack and lunch times.

The weekly cost per child is $50 (plus a small contribution for art supplies). We host the playgroup in one of the family’s home near Mt Tabor/upper Hawthorne (near SE 50th/Salmon St).

Please call or email Sarah for more information at 541-805-2212 or Sarah.Figliozzi@gmail.com.  We look forward to meeting interested families.

Thank you!

Pea Pod’s Family Co-op Playschool is now offering a tiered monthly fee structure in an effort to provide options to those families who want to be part of our co-op community, but do not have the time necessary to do so. As part of this new structure, everyone contributes in a way that works best for their family. Some provide their time, some their talent, and some their treasure. As part of this new pricing structure, Pea Pod will hire a Parent Coach who will attend each day. The Parent Coach will provide a consistent face in the playroom, will act as lead Parent-on-Duty, keep the group to the schedule, lead circle time, model conflict resolution and parenting skills, assist with opening and closing duties, and attend monthly meetings. Having a parent coach present will be an indispensible parenting resource to those who will be working shift, by providing these parents with a hands-on learning experience to daily challenges. There are a limited number of slots in each tier. Prices are as follows:

New Italian Kindergarten Offers One-of-a-Kind Program in Portland Metro

April 12, 2017

123456 prek

Throughout Portland, kindergarten programs abound.  However, there is none quite like the new Scuola Italiana Kindergarten program which is slated to open next fall.  This unique program offers both Italian and English language instruction by fusing Italian language and culture together with the necessary English language kindergarten skills to create well rounded, world citizens equipped to enter any first-grade classroom.

Did you know that providing foreign language opportunities to kids is truly a gift that keeps on giving?  There are plenty of studies that illustrate the truly amazing and lifelong benefits associated with learning a foreign language.  Better problem solving skills, higher test scores, greater overall academic success are just a few of those advantages.  Now who doesn’t want that for their child?!  Additionally, children im
mersed in second language at an early age have the very real possibility of becoming native-fluent in that language.

It is not necessary to have Italian language experience yourself to enroll your child in kindergarten.  Our teachers understand that most parents will not know Italian, and they are prepared to share tried and true tips, fun and educational resources, and other helpful information that empowers you support your child’s progress.  For parents who might wish to learn the language simultaneously, we offer a comprehensive adult program

If your child is not yet ready for kindergarten, Scuola Italiana has several other wonderful opportunities available for you and your child.  We can begin by sharing Italian language with you and your child as early as 18 months through our free Mommy and Me Playgroup.  Playgroup is designed for toddlers aged 18 – 42 months old.  We also have an excellent Reggio Emilia inspired preschool program and after school and weekend classes too.   Summer culture camps are open between June and August when regular classes are not in session.

If you’d like to learn more about our new, one-of-a-kind kindergarten program or any of the other children’s classes, please join Scuola Italiana teachers and staff for an open house on Saturday, April 29th from noon to 2:00 pm.  The open house is at 1542 NW 14th AVE, Portland, OR 97209 (14th & Quimby).

Can’t make our open house?  Please email questions or arrange a visit at info@scuola.us.

Since 2006, Scuola Italiana has operated with a mission to promote the Italian language and culture to children and adults in a student-centered environment; nurturing responsible, global citizens by providing cross-cultural understanding and fostering a deep appreciation for world civilizations that intersect with the Italian culture.

Looking for a Second Child for a Private Waldorf Preschool Class

March 27, 2017

We have a very sensitive sensory girl who is 4.5 and who does not do well in preschool because of the number of children.  Her last preschool teacher (a certified Waldorf teacher) offered to host a two hour, once per week preschool session for her and one other child.  This teacher and her preschool are absolutely amazing!  We are looking for one other child between the ages of 3 and 5 who would join us for this adventure.  Maybe another sensory child like her who struggles with larger groups of children.  Or, a non-sensory child who is quiet and would like the opportunity to experience a beautiful Waldorf school once per week.

We would meet for two hours on Thursday afternoons.  The preschool is on Mt. Scott.

Please contact Heather at hblankenheim@gmail.com if you are interested.

Join me in creating a playschool for 2-3 year olds!

March 06, 2017

Cyndi Perczek is a creative play specialist who leads co-op preschools for 2-4 year olds. For the past 11 years, she's provided out-of-the box education that allows her and other families the freedom to create early childhood experiences that are both intimate and adventurous. With a BA in theatre and an MS in education, she combines the two to make stories and make- believe the driving force of her curriculum. Interactive storytelling keeps the class on their feet by acting every moment with their voice and body. Cyndi has worked with organizations like Story Pirates, Music Together, Brooklyn Beanstalk, and Spellbound Theatre as a teaching artist and has worked at Montessori schools, daycares, and mommy and me classes as a Spanish teacher. During the summers she leads a detective camp for 5-8 year olds that solve mysteries by finding hidden clues and letters in the outdoors. She is moving to Portland in July and her Brooklyn co-op community is happy to give recommendations and tell you about their experiences with Cyndi.

If you're interested in creating a cooperative playschool with me for the 2017-2018 school year please email me at cyndi.perczek@gmail.com. Thank you! 20160926_105421

Pea Pod Playschool and Baby Cafe

February 16, 2017

Looking to spend some quality time with your child?

Want to build community and foster relationships for your family?

Do you have a flexible schedule and need a little time to yourself?

Committed to staying home with your child but need some adult brain stimulation?

Pea Pod Playschool, a family cooperative childcare program, is an opportunity for parents to spend quality time with their kids, while forming meaningful relationships with others outside their immediate family. Because there is no teacher, parents are required to work a shift alongside two other parents, which allows them to form community and learn from each other. The program also provides parents some much needed time away from their children when they drop them off on the days that they are not working shift.

The program is for children ages 15 months to 3.5 years, or whenever they graduate into preschool. Each day follows a set schedule, which includes an art activity, circle time, a healthy snack, outdoor play, lunch-time and unstructured play. The program is play-based and focuses on socialization skills and building emotional intelligence, such as empathy. Pea Pod provides new families with educational support including an orientation, training sessions, and access to on-going parenting workshops and resources within the field of child development. Visit www.peapodpdx.org for more info. Email membership@peapodpdx.org to schedule a visit.

Location: 4911 NE Couch Ave, Portland, OR 97213

Mighty Oaks Preschool has two 4 day spaces!

July 18, 2016

Mighty oaks banner logo

Mighty Oaks has two 4 day spaces coming available in August! We have four boys and one lady. We're hoping to have two more ladies join us to balance the energy.

Mighty Oaks is beginning its 5th school year in the Grant Park neighborhood. At Mighty Oaks, children engage in a student-interest led, play-based curriculum which encourages creativity, independence, and problem solving strategies while incorporating academic skills. The curricular inspiration comes from a variety of constructivist theorists including Maria Montessori and John Dewey. Mighty Oaks believes that children learn best by doing and experiencing life first-hand.

At Mighty Oaks students have the opportunity to create art, engage in dramatic play, get dirty, get inspired, discover favorite books, explore, learn, laugh, and grow together. Children have the opportunity to explore their natural environment on nature walks, digging in the organic garden beds, and interacting with the school’s three chickens; Dorothy, Blanche, and Rose. A typical day at Mighty Oaks follows a predictable daily rhythm which serves as a guide so that students benefit from the stability of a schedule while maintaining the flexibility necessary to thrive with a play and discovery-based curriculum.

Mighty Oaks’ Founder & Director, Brittany Smith, is a licensed teacher with over a decade of experience working with young children, as well as a Masters degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from the Lewis and Clark Graduate School of Education. Smith is passionate about providing quality education to a diverse population of learners and learning styles.

As a non-profit, Mighty Oaks has the opportunity to delve more deeply into supporting the community and the whole family unit. Smith has cultivated a number of relationships in the community that help to refine and focus Mighty Oaks’ holistic educational and familial support goals. In addition to Smith, the Mighty Oaks board of directors includes: David Cannon, an AMI certified Montessori school teacher/director and owner of Montessori Children’s House; Ann Summers, a Reading and Math Intervention Specialist, who serves on a committee to advise the Department of Education on measuring school readiness for preschool and kindergarten students; Amanda Fitzpatrick, a SE mother of twins currently attending Mighty Oaks, who is a graduate student studying family health and family systems; Tara Carmichael, a NE Portland mother of a Mighty Oaks alum with a wealth knowledge and experience in art education and working with diverse populations. Additionally, Smith collaborates with local elementary school teachers to ensure that Mighty Oaks offers a nurturing, developmentally appropriate, educational environment that fosters kindergarten readiness and independence while endeavoring to instill a lifelong love of learning.

SWEET RIVER BAMBOO PRESCHOOL & NURSERY NOW ENROLLING FOR JUNE! NE PDX

March 12, 2016

IMG_1702

Sweet River Bamboo Preschool & Nursery is a LifeWays and Waldorf inspired program nurturing the spirit of childhood. Located in NE Portland, we are a predominantly Waldorf program and take inspiration from Montessori and Reggio philosophies to create an environment that is well balanced and suited to the social/emotional development of children in this age group.

A year round program, we are a small and mindful group of 2 teachers and 8 children from 18m-kindergarten ready. Enrollment options are for one, two, or three days a week:  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 8:45a-12:30p. or 8:45a-2:45p.

Held in a loving home surrounded by beauty and toys made of natural materials, a gentle rhythm carries children through open play, song circles, outside adventures (we live right by Oregon Park!) and rest. Painting, arts and crafts and baking are other activities we do together weekly. Influenced greatly by Nature's rhythm, acknowledgment of and festive celebrations of the seasons are a big deal at Sweet River Bamboo!

Lead Teacher Sara (Sahra) is a Waldorf inspired teacher with 20 years of childcare experience with children of all ages. Her time with children has taught her how to slow down, find playful moments in every activity, and to stay present, loving and kind. Sara has learned that encouraging creativity and being out in nature daily is imperative for the well being of children (and adults!) She has observed that placing children in mixed age environments that are warm and loving is immensely helpful in aiding their ability to learn, thrive and grow securely and whole heartedly. Sara brings warmth, creativity, intention and love to the children in her care and holds a nourishing container for the preschool group as a whole. Sara's multi cultural and multi lingual background and years of extensive world travel bring a nice flavor to the school. Her decade long exploration of psychology, dance and various forms of mindful movement practices influence the curriculum greatly.

Space is limited. Our program launches in N.E. (currently in the S.W.) on Monday, June 6th. Please contact Sara at 503-432-6414 or saralizadeh@hotmail.com with your interest and questions. A complete overview of the program including tuition rates will be provided via email at your request.

Thank you for considering this magical program for your child!

Waldorf Inspired Teacher Guided Nanny Share/Adventure Group Has Wednesday Morning Openings!

September 30, 2015

Hi There!

IMG_7071

My name is Sara pronounced (Sahra) and I am a Waldorf inspired teacher with over 17 years of childcare experience with children of all ages. My time with children has taught me how to slow down, find playful moments in every activity, and to stay present, loving, and kind. I have created a sweet little spin off of my former preschool, Sweet River bamboo, that I created and taught at for 3 years in the form of a nanny share. If I were asked to describe in one word the quality of the relationships I cultivate with children, it would be... Magical. There is space available for 1-2 children in my play group on Wednesdays from 9a-1p/3:30p. This nanny share arrangement is ideal for families who want their children to socialize and explore creativity and nature weekly, and who want to gently introduce/or continue offering their child a small group of children to engage with in a warm and loving environment. This childcare group is well established and a high quality group with extremely mindful care and thoughtful parenting.

Your child will be playing with 2 year old Macy and 4 year old Seamus for the day. We are in Macy's home until 1p and then at Seamus's home after that for nap/rest time. Macy is kind and strong. She loves filling up her back packs for adventures, and playing dress up. Seamus is an energetic tender spirit who loves to build polar bear dens and play chase. Both children love to make art, cuddle, and read books. Our rhythm is filled with playtime, song circles, and craft making that celebrate the seasons and infuse our time together with rich, collaborative activities. There is a lot of silliness and laughter too! If our group size allows, we visit playgrounds and venture out to the local gardens around town. There is a lot of silliness and laughter too! Our days are media free aside from world music that  accompanies our dance jams. I would like to bring our new group together as soon as possible so we can all get to know each other and settle into our rhythm. I have excellent references to share with you so please contact me at 503-432-6414 or saralizadeh@hotmail.com to learn more about this arrangement. Above all, I truly see children as whole beings of love and light, and I deeply enjoy getting to know each and every little one who joins my path and shares their magic with me. Please check out my former preschool's facebook page, Sweet River Bamboo and extended childcare post to get a sense of the quality of care I provide children.

Thank you!

Sara

PT SPANISH TODDLER PLAYGROUP/ PRESCHOOL LIGHT (INNER SE/NE)

August 02, 2015

We are looking for a few more toddlers to join our Spanish home-based toddler playgroup. The wonderful teacher is a native Spanish speaker who has been running the same ‘escuela’ for the last seven years.

The playgroup provides the kids significant Spanish exposure with a play-based focus. As some of the older kids are moving on to formal preschools and we do not want to lose the fantastic teacher and this great resource, we are on the lookout for new families to join us (otherwise the group will not be continuing after August).

The ‘escuela’ meets from 9:30 to 12:30 Wednesday and Friday mornings. There will be at least four, but no more than five, kids aged between 1.5 and 3 years old. The teacher speaks to the children almost exclusively in Spanish. Their day consists of outdoor play, arts and crafts, music and dancing, and parent packed snack and lunch times.  The weekly cost per child is $40. We are still trying to determine which family’s home the group would be located beginning in September but the existing two families live in Hollywood and Mt Tabor/Hawthorne.

Please email Sarah for more information at Sarah.Figliozzi@gmail.com.  We look forward to meeting interested families.

FT Loving, Patient, Reliable Nanny Available 3/23

March 16, 2015

Hello Portland Families!

My name is Alaina and I am 27 year old, Portland native, who's hoping to find a full time nanny position. I am available M-F and hoping to work at least 30 hours per week, 35 would be a plus but not required. I am available to start as early as March 23rd. My most current job was working at a Pre-school/Daycare called West Hills Learning Center, in Multnomah Village. I started out as the Assistant Teacher in the Pre-K classroom, when I decided to start looking for a nanny job I moved to part time as a floater, which had me working in all of the classrooms 8 months- 5 years old. West Hills was a great place to work, and I learned so much there, with all of the different ages, to teaching styles, and large number of children in each class, I really soaked up as much knowledge as I could to help me in my future child care positions. With that said, I have realized I thrive more in a smaller group setting. I like the intimacy and attention you are able to give each child. I like growing close with the families, and having the time to be able to give updates to the parents about how the day went, and what new fun things we did during the day.

In the past I have worked for the Beaverton School District as a Substitute Teacher's Assistant, I worked in mostly special ed classrooms, and children with behavioral issues, ranging for K-12, I have worked in after school art programs, and I have been a Nanny to multiple families, which I have grown to have great relationships with. Kids age ranging from 3 months-8 years old. Of course I have babysat throughout every job I have had starting at a very early age. With all my past experience I have always gone back to wanting to be a Nanny, I believe it truly is my passion to care for children, and there is no greater feeling then leaving a days work actually feeling like you have made a difference in someones life.

A little about me, and my teaching style. Like I said before, I have grown up in the Portland metro area my whole life, I love Oregon and all if has to offer. Like most Oregonians, I love the lifestyle we are able to have by living here, beautiful day hikes, weekend trips to the Oregon Coast and the Mountain, trying a new awesome restaurant each weekend, eating locally and as healthy as possible. Its very important for me to be active, and healthy, and that is definitely incorporated in when I am watching children. I like to have the kids help me cook, get them involved and show them what its like to eat from the garden, daily walks, and exploring all nature has to offer. Rain or shine, I need to go outside everyday! I very much believe a child's imagination is the most important thing to exercise and discover. Letting the child know they are loved and cared for on a daily basis, making sure they are comfortable and knowing you are there for them with all of their questions and concerns, helping them when they need help, but also letting them try new things on their own, and learning together is the most important thing I can provide as a Nanny and caregiver.

As a Nanny, I would make sure each day we would go outside, hopefully incorporate arts and crafts on a daily basis (because I love art projects as much as the kids do!) read books, prepare healthy snacks, listen and dance to music, explore new parks, and honestly just try to learn and play as much as we can, and have a great time doing it!

I have a 2002 Subaru Outback, which is a very safe and reliable car. I have had my license since I was 16, with an amazing driving record. I recently renewed my First Aid/CPR training in January, and am enrolled in the Criminal Background Check. Thank I am comfortable with pets, and don't mind walking the dog. I am comfortable with meal prep, light house keeping, and running errands. I don't smoke.

Even though I myself am not a mother yet, I can imagine trying to find the right Nanny for your family to be a very hard process. I don't blame the family for wanting to maybe have a lengthy hiring process, or wanting to do a trial run to see if you are a right fit before hiring, and to me that makes so much sense. You can't be too sure when you know this person is going to be watching your children. So with that said, I am available for contact through e-mail or phone. If you're interested I can send my Resume which gives in greater detail my childcare experience, we can chat on the phone before meeting to see if we would be a good fit for each other!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, I am a very caring, reliable, patient, and open minded person, I look at being a Nanny as a career, and not just a job to have until I find something better. I am very excited to find the next family to work with. Thanks again, and I hope to hear from you!

Sincerely, Photo

INFANT OR WOBBLER CARE AVAILABLE, NE/N: MLK & KILLINGSWORTH

July 07, 2014

Greetings to all parents and guardians in Portland! I am a former teacher who decided to provide childcare (more like a nanny-share) after having 2 adorable girls. They are 2 and 1 year old. I have a wide range of experience in education as an elementary and a toddler teacher. My qualifications include First Aid/CPR, Food Handlers, background check #, RRCAN and several other childcare trainings.

Currently, I am looking for 1 child to join our group in August in our home. Our house is strategically located near MLK and Killingsworth with easy access to public transportation and I5. I keep my ratio low, maximum is 1:4. The ideal situation for me is to find a family with a child within the age of 3 months to 15 months old.  I am happy to take care your child from 2 to 3 days a week for the total of 9 hours of care from 8-5pm. Extra hours, date nights and drop ins can be arranged.

Feel free to contact me (Nina) by phone at 503-804-4843 or by e-mail at e_menina@yahoo.com

We are a group of families who have come together to provide high quality, part-time childcare for our children. Children typically start between the ages of 18 months to 2.5 years and graduate by age 4. We are entirely parent run.  Each child attends 2 days "on her own" and 1 day with her "parent teacher."

Openings in SE daycare for 2-3 year olds (Summer only)

May 26, 2014

Spots available for summer only (June-August) in Montessori inspired, home-based daycare.  Close knit group of sweet toddlers.  Daily art projects, story time, outside play, free play, structured play, and silliness.  Lunches and snacks provided, mostly organic and homemade.  Also regular time exploring music, nature, movement, and conversation.

I am a 39yo stay-at-home mom with a degree in Social Work, specializing in child welfare.  I approach children as being fully their own people deserving of respect and sincere listening, while understanding that they need lots of reassurance, love, and support as they navigate the often bewildering and frustrating experiences of growing up.  Have passed extensive background checks.  Will have adorable niece (high school student) working as my assistant all summer.  Children are crazy about her.

$70/day, available Mon-Thurs 8am-5pm

 SE 30th and Brooklyn St.

Day Care Spots Available for Toddlers (Inner SE Portland)

March 04, 2014

I have a small (3-4) group of wonderful toddlers I care for in my SE Portland home (near Division and 30th).  I have an immediate opening for Tuesdays, and full-time spots opening in the summer.  Hours are 8am - 5pm, with earlier and later hours available by prior arrangement.  We eat healthy and delicious organic meals, enjoy daily time in the fresh air, and laugh a lot.  Daily activities include painting and drawing, several story times with books and songs, dance parties with balloons and scarves, bubble chasing, exploring music, walks to Piccolo Park, and free play.  I keep the group small so that I can give plenty of individual attention, encouragement, and reassurance they still so need at this age.

I have a degree in Social Work, am trained in infant and child first aid and CPR, and am a mature mother of a sweet, goofy 2-year old (who is part of our group).  I am heavily influenced by Montessori philosophy, by which I mean that I focus on independence in children and create a child-based, beautiful and calm environment.  My rate is $70/day, which includes all meals and snacks.  Please email with any questions.  I look forward to chatting with you!  Mercy Pozgay (mercyblue@gmail.com)

Infant or Toddler Care Available, NE/N: MLK & Killingsworth

November 23, 2013

Greetings to all parents and guardians in Portland! I am a teacher who decided to provide childcare (more like a nanny-share) after having 2 adorable girls. They are 18 and 5 months old. I have a wide range of experience in education as an elementary and a toddler teacher. My qualifications include First Aid/CPR, Food Handlers, background check #, RRCAN and several other childcare trainings.

Currently, I am looking for 1 friend to join our group in December and 1 more in January at my home strategically located near MLK and Killingsworth with easy access to public transportation and I5. I keep my ratio low, maximum is 1:4. The ideal situation for me is to find a family with a child within the ages of 3 months to 2 years. This way, my daughters and your child(ren) can be friends. I am happy to take care your child(ren) from 2 to 4 days a week. The childcare is open from Tuesday-Friday at 8am-5pm. Extra hours, date nights and drop ins can be arranged. Occasional Mondays is open for further discussion.

Feel free to contact me (Nina) by phone at 503-804-4843 or by e-mail at e_menina@yahoo.com
