Tumbleweed Infant House, LLC is a certified, eco-healthy, in-home center.  We have openings in our young infant cohort (children born between 2.09 and 9.09) and toddler cohort (children currently 2-3 years old).

Growing Seeds North Feedback?

Hello Urban Mamas.  We are considering changing daycare centers for a few different reasons.  Growing Seeds North (or the upcoming new location on MLK) is very close to our home and our oldest child's school so it could be a good option for us.  We'd appreciate any feedback - (the good, the bad and the ugly!)  folks have had with this daycare center.  Our youngest (who is 2) is very happy where she currently is but there are a few things that could use improvement.  We would hate to make a move for more of the "same but different" if you know what I mean.  Thanks so much for your comments.

School year child care for toddler, Beaverton or NW Portland

I'm a teacher and looking for childcare that fits with my schedule i.e. 9 months of the year and till about 3 or 3:30pm in the afternoon. This will be for an 18 month old boy. I'm looking for either a nanny to care for him at our home or an eco-friendly/organic preschool that has a 9 month program and takes kids as young as 18 months. Location in Beaverton or NW Portland.

I'm thinking a nanny who has school aged kids and wants summers and late afternoons off to be home with their own kids would be a good fit for us.

I am looking for a true eco-healthy childcare in Beaverton:

organic food, non-toxic cleaners, no pestecides on playground, no microwaving plastics, non-toxic toys (mainly European and US made wooden and cloth toys, avoiding plastic toys), etc.

Feedback about Apple Blossom, Blossom House, or Mother Earth Preschools?

Hello fellow Portland Parents!

I am looking for some feedback from parents (or even former teachers) who have had their children attend one of the following three preschools:

• Apple Blossom Nursery School
• Blossom House Preschool 
• Mother Earth Childcare  

I am considering all three schools for my son and will be visiting them in the next week to form my own opinions, but I would LOVE to hear any firsthand accounts of people who've had their children in one of these schools.  Please email me at hcullom@aol.com with any feedback that you might have, whether positive or negative.

(My son was abused at a daycare about a year ago [despite my valiant efforts to do everything "right" in screening the daycare, questioning parents, showing up unannounced, etc], so I am even more nervous about finding childcare than your average parent.  We've had a wonderful nanny for the past year, but she is leaving us because she needs to spend more time with her three pre-teen and teenage boys.)

I would be EVER grateful for any advice or feedback anyone can give me!

If you'd like to suggest another option, that's great too, but I am a single mama so I need full-time preschool (full days, 4-5 days per week) and can't do co-ops or other schools that only offer half day programs.  If you have any other great ideas, please pass them along too!   

Any experience with the YMCA Market Street?

Does anyone have any experiences or impressions of the YMCA Market Street Child Development Center?  I'm considering it for infant care and would love to get some Mama's (and Dad's) advice about it.

I am starting at a wonderful school come Fall and will need childcare for my daughter. (then she will be almost two).  Any recommendations for the Pearl district area or NE (Concordia/Alameda ish)?

We haven't so much as hired a babysitter beyond grandma (& that was only twice! when she was visiting).

I think--know  my daughter is wanting social interation w/other kiddos as well as activities (I am looking for a center with small kid to teacher ratio, not a nanny or in home care)

Anyone have opinion/review of Kindercare downtown locations?

I would am looking into moving my child to a downtown KinderCare because it has openings.  Does anyone have any views/feedback.  Also, are there any other downtown daycares that don't have long waiting lists?

part time childcare needed for almost 3 y/o and 5 mo. old

I am in need of part time childcare for my two boys - almost 3 y/o and 5 month old.  Right now, I only need someone to care for them 1x/month for about 2 hours.  It would be on any Tuesday from about 11:30 to 1:30 pm.  I am open to someone coming to our house, going to a center or doing a swap with another family.  There may be a possibility of adding hours in the afternnoon.

St. James Lutheran Church

Downtown working mamas, just want to rave about St. James.  They accept infant to Kindergarten and now have preschool openings.  Rates are not cheap (preschool is $885 for full-time preschool) but they have very tenured and qualfied staff.  There is a curriculum but it's very low-key.  They are affiliated with the church but there is no religious instruction and they are gay-friendly.  It's also wonderful to be able to hop on over for lunch (if you work downtown).

We currently have to leave our childcare provider due to falling victim to our 'economic crisis'. We would love to find someone to take our son's place (I believe they would need a 2-2.5 year old male to replace our spot); since we are obligated to pay for the next 3 months unless a replacement is found. Seeking PT childcare in NE, April 2009, 1yo

I thought I was getting the ball rolling pretty early...

I'm looking for childcare for my son in about 6 months when he'll be a year old for 3 days a week. I live and work in inner NE Portland so ideally some place not too far out would be great. I've called around and some of the waiting lists are 1-2 years! I've gotten on one that is 9-10 months out (I'm sure I could find backup care for a few months). But I'd like to have more options. I'm looking for something that is somewhat affordable (in my mind that's less than $700 a month) and provides a quality program of course. In-home providers are fine as long as they're state certified and reputable. Does anyone have any recommendations or know of places that will have an opening in about 6 months?

Seeking Recommendations for childcare/babysitters in Woodstock

Hello, We have a little girl that turned one on Sept 5th. My husband and I work from home and we have been able to juggle it so far but we are thinking it might be time to get some help. My son just started pre-school last week and the school may not be a good fit for our family. We're looking for alternatives in case we decide to move on in the next week or so.

We had him in a parent-teacher co-op for the last 2 years, which we (and he) ADORED. We liked being involved with the school and getting to know his friends and teachers.  We're looking for a place that is small and integrates home life and school life. We'd like someplace that emphasizes relationship building between the children, creative play, offers plenty of time outdoors, instills open-mindedness and a broad world view and is full-day.

Seeking Full-Time Care for 2 1/2 Year Old

Need some mama help!  We just returned to Portland after 10 years and are unable to take the Montessori school opening we have been offered because our son isn't potty-trained.  We really thought he'd be ready, but alas, too much transition and he isn't ready.  Like everyone else, we want high quality child-care.  While living in Washington State, we nanny-shared successfully and used both a center and in-home providers (with our 5 year old) and truly believe each situation has its pros and cons.  We live in close-in NE, work at PSU and UP, so somewhere near those locations would be ideal.  Must have care by October 1st but could start as early as next week too.  Thanks all!  Email me:  tinaanctil@gmail.com

SEEKING: M,W,F Childcare for 21 month old boy

It is important that my son is in a media free environment, eats healthy organic/natural food, and gets lots of time to play outside/gardening time. I would love for him to be in a small group of children (older mixed age preferred), to learn about growing and baking foods, have time with animals, arts, spanish, and free play. I want his childcare to be like his second home....I am really looking for a sense of community. Lastly you must be open to accepting DHS. seeking part-time daycare

Hi everyone,
I, too, am looking for part-time daycare for my 14 month old son. I prefer an out-of-home facility since my little one is a handful and I feel more comfortable with multiple providers that could keep each other from flipping out on him after he's spent the day biting and throwing himself down on the floor in tantrums. (Early bloomer.) I am super flexible as I am only going back to work 2-3 days a week. Any days. I would appreciate suggestions, even if you know that they are currently full.

Anyone experienced Village Child Care, LLC near Legacy Emanuel?

Hi--I'm a mama to 3 boys, ages 4 months, 2years, and 5 years.  I recently toured Village Child Care, LLC across the park/street from Legacy Hospital.  Does anyone have any comments on the quality of the care or any experiences to share?  I'm very nervous about care anywhere for my infant---have never done center-based care for a baby before.
