New Child Care Center Opening in the Pearl District in April 2012

February 15, 2012

ChildRoots, A Center for Young Children, (www.childroots.com), is an environmental and Art-and-Science-based learning community, dedicated to providing superior child care for children ages six weeks to six years.  ChildRoots, which is located at 50 SE 17th Ave. and E. Burnside, will be opening a new Center location in April in the Pearl District.  The new Center, entitled ChildRoots NW, will be located at 1740 N.W. Flanders St. on the corner of N.W. 18th and N.W. Flanders St.  The Center is a 9,000 square-foot-space comprised of nine classrooms, with a total capacity for 110 children.  The space was formally a Children’s Creative Learning Center (CCLC) child care, aka KinderCare. Because this space was previously home to another child care center, the remodel efforts and structural changes will be minimal.

ChildRoots NW will feature a nice-sized outdoor area for play and its very own parking lot. The Center will also have an art lab and a science lab.

Active enrollment for ages six weeks to six years has begun at ChildRoots NW and the Center will be hiring a total of 35 new teachers to help run the program.

ChildRoots has been recognized by local media including The Oregonian, the Portland Tribune, and the Hollywood Star for its leadership in sustainability.  ChildRoots features organic meals and snacks, locally-sourced food, cloth diapers, non-toxic wooden toys, creative spaces, a Preschool Atelier Program, and play-based learning.

For information about enrolling at ChildRoots NW, please contact Christina at christina@childroots.com to set up a tour.

Infant/Toddler nanny seeking new family in inner pdx

February 10, 2012

Hello,

My name is Wendy and I have been working in the child care industry for the past 3.5 years, however, I have over 10 years experience caring for children, including raising a step son.  I have passed a National background check and Oregon's background check for child care workers. I am First Aid/CPR Certified and have obtained 400+ hours in Early Childhood Education. There for I am confident that I have the experience and the qualifications that you are seeking in a caregiver.

Most of my experience is with wobblers and toddlers (1-3 year olds) as this is my favorite age group.  I do however; have experience with children of all ages. I have cared for children on a one-on-one basis and in a group setting.   I am a mature individual seeking a long term, part, or fulltime position.

I am a very fun loving and active nanny.  I believe that children, especially babies, are learning and absorbing things all the time.  I enjoy fostering this learning and natural curiosity by stimulating them with fun and educational activities.   I also enjoy taking them on walks, setting up play dates, taking them to any classes that you might have them signed up in, and other age appropriate outings.

I am pet friendly, have experience with expressed milk and cloth diapers.   When the time comes I also have experience with potty-training.   I believe in little to no television, I make sure that all schedules are followed, I encourage verbal skills by talking and reading to the children, and I try to get out of the house once a day.

I generally charge $12/hr for one, $14/hr for 2, and $15 for 3, but I am willing to negotiate to fit your budget.    My rate includes light housekeeping, generally centered on the children.

I have a resume, references, and many more details to give.  Please contact me at pwhobear@gmail.com, atyour earliest convenience.

 Thank you,

Wendy

YOUR VERY OWN CERTIFIED MONTESSORI TEACHER

February 03, 2012

Hello!

Are you a parent interested in having your own experienced Montessori teacher for your child? I am an experienced Montessori teacher trained at The Montessori Institute of Minnesota, with a Masters degree in Education and Child Development from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland. Before this I was most recently a teacher at a local Montessori elementary school, and prior to that taught at the Montessori Children's Community in the Dominican Republic. I also have over four years experience as a nanny from birth to age four, and have over ten years experience working with children between the ages of birth to age 12. I have reliable transportation and am willing to work throughout the Portland metro area.

What I do goes beyond child care. I create and teach age-appropriate Montessori activities (if desired by parents) and enjoy many teachable moments as they arise. My method is more akin to in-home preschool/ elementary school with a large dose of silliness and fun. I love assisting children in their own discoveries and activities, such as art, cooking, gardening/plant care, flower arranging, the Spanish language, and much much more depending on the needs and interests of each unique child.

Should you be interested, I am also offering an additional service wherein I can create an age-appropriate Montessori environment in your home, which maximizes your child's independence and fosters opportunities for learning. This can be accomplished on almost any budget.

I am infant/child CPR and first-aid certified and bilingual (Spanish), and am currently seeking full time work. I am also willing to do some evening/weekend work.

I look forward to meeting and working with you and your children!

References and resume available upon request. Email amyponcez@gmail.com or call (503) 702-9832.

New home day care/preschool in NW Portland - native Mandarin Chinese teacher

December 11, 2011

Untitled Document

Portland Language Art (PLA) is a new child care facility in NW Portland. It is located off Cornel Rd and NW 102nd Ave, cross street from Cedar Mill Elementary School, just outside of Forest Heights. PLA owner/operator Lillian Sun has a child care license and will open Jan 2, 2012. Lillian is a loving and caring mom, who has two boys (4 and 6). More than three years ago, when Lillian was frustrated by finding her older son a good quality preschool, she started to have this idea of having her own child care/preschool. In past three years, Lillian has visited many preschool programs, attended early childhood workshops, and done research on preschool education. The result is Portland Language Art, a new child care/preschool facility that provides children an opportunity to learn a foreign language while he/she plays in a clean, healthy, safe and creative  environment that supports learning and creativity. PLAis planning to provide multiple foreign languages in future (which helps brain development and  allows the child to develop an interest in learning another langauage). For the time being, as Lillian is native Mandarin speaker, she will provide Mandarin teaching. In doing her research on preschool teaching methods, Lillian was highly influenced by the Montessori and Reggio Emilia approaches. She has designed a program that will be Montessori based but Reggio inspired --- mixed age group, each child has own curriculum that allows the child to progress at his/her own pace, but will utilized more visual arts and music which enhance  creativity.

Experienced childcare provider looking for a position. Would prefer full-time but willing to consider part-time positions or on-call as well. I have multiple years of experience (total of 10 years childcare experience) working with children ages 0-8. Great families for you to contact that can attest to my ability to be on-time and engaging with children of any age.

I am familiar with RIE, Reggio, well-versed in Montessori learning style as well as a bit of knowledge in attachment parenting. Comfortable with cloth diapers (assisting with diaper laundry and children's laundry as well) and feeding expressed milk as well.

I'm cpr/first aid certified, have taken the RRCAN class, am in the process of completing my food handlers certification, and am enrolled in Oregon Criminal History Registry # (for working in a childcare center). Previously background checked through DHS for 3 years, open to having background check run as well as having two through reputable childcare sites (sittercity.com and care.com). Non-smoker, valid license/insurance and reliable vehicle for transportation (5 seat car, 2 car seats or boosters and room for one older child. I may possibly be able to squeeze 2 car seats and 1 booster in back, depending on width!)

Engaging and active; I do multiple activities with children from sensory play (shaving cream, paint, play dough, etc.) to arts and crafts with older children. Familiar with assisting in school-aged learning, assisting with writing/reading, spelling, abc's, 123's, colors, shapes, etc. Primary focus working with children ages 0-6.

I can and will take your children on outings if you would like, am able to assist with errand running/shopping if necessary as well as light household chores (dishes unloaded or loaded, light sweeping, child laundry/room cleanup, etc.). I love going to the park even if it's wet, and love to puddle jump! For outings I do ask you provide the payment for admission fees, etc.

Available Mon-Fri any time. I do offer weekend sitting but usually reserve it for date-night occasional sitting for families.

If you're interested, please feel free to email me with all pertinent information such as: your care needs (frequency, total hours, daily schedule if varied), a bit about your family/children (names/ages/a bit about them) and what you are expecting to pay.

My hourly rate for locations within 15 miles of my home is $11.50 per hour, for 2 children. Locations further from my home or with additional children are subject to increased fees, etc. I base my price on your needs, family size, as well as location and am slightly flexible with families that can provide me with stability as I can for them. :)

For inquiry/interest please email educatoralicia@gmail.com or call (971)-217-8414. If I do not answer please leave a message; I have a very active 6 year-old with high-functioning Autism and he can be quite demanding of my time. :)

Thanks!

Nanny wanted for 5 month old in NW

We are first time parents looking for a nanny Monday through Friday from approximately 8am to 3pm.  One of us works full time and the other works intermittently from home and elsewhere in the neighborhood.  We consider ourselves global citizens (having lived in multiple countries and cities throughout the US and abroad) with progressive values and beliefs.  Our son is 5 months old, energetic, and loves to laugh and smile.  We are seeking a nanny who is reliable, consistent, caring, compassionate, and is willing to cultivate our son’s intellectual curiosity and growth.  This would involve, but is obviously not limited to, feeding, playing, reading, taking walks, sharing stories, and listening to music with him.  The ideal candidate must hold a college degree, be willing to change cloth diapers, undertake some housekeeping, own a car, live within the Portland metro area, and have a minimum of 3 years nanny experience with references.  Preferably the candidate will also be bilingual in English and Spanish.  The candidate should be infant CPR certified, a non-smoker and be willing to provide a background check.  We live in NW Portland near Dragonfly coffee shop, Saint Honoré Bakery, Food Front co-op, and Forest Park.  We are willing to pay between $9 and $12 per hour (and may provide a salaried rate if there’s interest) for a personal nanny based on experience.

Applicants please email us your resume to tspng00 at yahoo.com.  We will contact you to set up an interview only if you meet our selection criteria.

Nanny Available during holidays

November 16, 2011

Hi Mamas,

I am a nanny with experience with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers (and some though less experience with school aged kids.) I am CPR trained, college educated and have several great references. I have cared for as many as four kids at once.

I have some availability during the Thanksgiving break plus December and January.

As of right now, I am available the following dates:

11/22, 11/23, 11/26, 11/30,  and the 21st and 28th if you are interested in a share part of the day.

12/1, 12/2, 12/6,  12/9, 12/10, 12/13, 12/16, 12/17, 12/20, 12/23, 12/27, 12/29,

1/3, 1/6, 1/10, 1/13, 1/14, 1/27, 1/28

I am also available most Mondays but am accompanied by a sweet 2.5 yr old girl from 9-12.

I charge $13/hr for one or two kids and request a 4 hr minimum. I also do overnights and date nights all year long. I am also willing to be available short notice (subject to my schedule) if your child is sick and can't attend school or daycare or if your full time nanny calls in sick etc.

I do NOT have a car at this time so I prefer families who live close in and/or on a bus line. I live near Lloyd Center. I do like to get out and about on various adventures  with the kids and I have memberships to OMSI, the zoo and World Forestry Center. I am not one to stay home all day, but having said that I am fairly creative and can get into a good art project.

If you need coverage for any of above listed times, or just need occasional date night help, don't hesitate to contact me at greatportlandnanny at hotmail dot com.

Thanks!

Engaging, Creative, Committed Nanny available in January

November 12, 2011

I am an incredibly experienced child care provider who is looking for a 30+ hour position starting in January, either with an individual family or through a share. I have a true love of children and a deep interest in early childhood development. I am an active, engaging nanny who believes that a child has an amazing brain and incredible potential, and it is my passion to expose children to new experiences, ideas and early academics to make sure they keep all those brain connections alive and growing.

I will nurture your child's body, mind, and spirit. We will get plenty of outside time, exploring, walking, dicovering and having fun. We will spend some very low-pressure time on early academics, so your child can be ahead of the curve when it's time for kindergarten. I will model for your child an example of compassion, emapthy, and helpfulness toward others. We will explore every art medium your child takes an interest in, as well as produce some awesome seasonal crafts. We will read story after story, sing, play, delve deep into imaginary play, follow butterflies, plant seeds, build towers, and get out and about. If you have an infant, baby will be exposed to music, words, pictures, stories, rhymes, nature, and will get an overwhelming amount of cuddling. We will work on baby signs, and will get out for walks in the stroller and to go to storytime at the library. I am an active nanny, and really do love to see children growing and learning. In my care, your child will be safe, secure, smiling and learning.

I am available in January, after the holdiay craziness is over. I am available from 7:45 to about 5:15. I am more than willing to help with light housekeeping and pet care. I have CPR and First Aid certifications, a clean background check, a perfect driving record, and many, many excellent references. I have taken many additional classes about children and childhood development. Please email me with your exact needs in terms of days, times, and expectations, and I will get back to you with a rate quote. Rates begin at $13.00 per hour and can go up to $18.00 depending on the number of siblings--or whether it is a nanny share-- and other duties outside of child care. I prefer to stay on the West Side, as this is my part of town, but would consider going over to the East side for a great family. I absolutely welcome teachers' schedules. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you are looking for a truly excellent nanny @503-977-7847 or elizabeth_stenerson@hotmail.com. Thank You!

Infant/Toddler nanny seeking new family in inner pdx

November 05, 2011

I am a mature individual seeking a long term part or fulltime position.

I am pet friend, have experience with expressed milk and cloth diapers.   When the time comes I also have experience with potty-training.   I believe in little to no television, I make sure that all schedules are followed, I encourage verbal skills by talking and reading to the children, and I try to get out of the house once a day.

I generally charge $10-$12/hr for one, $12-$14/hr for 2, and $13-$15 for 3.   My rate includes light housekeeping, generally centered on the children.

I have a resume, references, and many more details to give.  Please contact me at pwhobear@gmail.com, atyour earliest convenience.

Thank you,

Wendy

I am familiar with RIE, Reggio, well-versed in Montessori learning style as well as a bit of knowledge in attachment parenting.

I'm cpr/first aid certified, have taken the RRCAN class, am in the process of completing my food handlers certification, and am enrolled in Oregon Criminal History Registry # (for working in a childcare center). I can and will take your children on outings if you would like, am able to assist with errand running/shopping if necessary as well as light household chores (dishes unloaded or loaded, light sweeping, child laundry/room cleanup, etc.). I love going to the park even if it's wet, and love to puddle jump!

Available Mon-Fri from any time in the am to 2pm.

If you're interested, please feel free to email me with all pertinent information such as: your care needs (frequency, total hours, daily schedule if varied), a bit about your family/children and what you are expecting to pay.

My hourly rate for locations within 15 miles of my home is $10.50 per hour, for 1-2 children. I am looking for families that are looking for a regular sitter and have at least a need for 10 hours weekly. Unfortunately a schedule that isn't consistent week-to-week is simply not reliable enough for me to survive.

For inquiry/interest please email educatoralicia@gmail.com and I will respond promptly.

Thanks!

We have a great nanny, join she and our baby 1 or 2 days to save on day care costs.

September 18, 2011

Our inquisitive and active 7 month old is cared for by our incredibly responsible nanny 2 days a week. Our bi-lingual nanny enjoys being out with our girl, whether it is going to the park, taking walks, or going to the local museums. She also enjoys playing with her in doors and reading books. Her background includes taking care of twins from the age of 3 months so she is well equipped to handle two babies who are mobile.

We are located in the Ceder Hills area and are looking to share on Wednesdays and/or Fridays. We prefer a baby less than a year to play with our girl. Even if you are interested in one day for several hours please contact us.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
please email me at stacygyro@gmail.com

Looking for NE, SE, or NoPo family to nanny share (bilingual nanny)

September 11, 2011

We are a family in inner NE with three school-age children looking to share our incredible nanny, Eva, with another family. Eva has been with our family for 9+ years. She will take care of our three children after school (from 2:30-5:30 p.m.), so we are looking for a family with a baby and/or toddler who needs help for the first half of the day (like 9:30-2:30 or 8:30-2:30, or thereabouts) Monday thru Friday. If you are willing to have her look after our kids as well, you might be able to also have her watch your child after school one or two afternoons/week. [NOTE: I posted this listing before, when I thought Eva didn't want to get to work before 10 a.m. because of I-5 commute. I was mistaken: She's fine getting to work earlier.)

Some details about Eva:

-Originally from Mexico, Eva’s primary language is Spanish. She speaks some English.

-Eva speaks Spanish with our children because we want them to be bilingual. She would speak Spanish with the children of the family who nanny-shares with us, thus it would work best if family had younger children or bilingual children.

-Eva engages children through song, talking, and movement. Eva is always talking to our children and engaging them in various ways. As a result, they speak Spanish incredibly well.

-Eva is very active: She loves taking our children to the neighborhood parks, OMSI, the zoo, etc. (She is on our OMSI and zoo membership.)

-Eva folds all of our laundry, irons clothes, and does light housework (e.g. sweeps kitchen floor, makes children’s beds, etc.). She perceives a need almost before we realize it!

-Eva lives in Vancouver. She wants to work on the eastside, NoPo, or possibly NW—somewhere easy to get to from I-5. She could also work in Vancouver.

-Eva charges $15/hour, which includes taxes to be withheld.

-Eva is incredibly loving, generous, gracious, and thoughtful.

I could go on and on, but I’ll stop now. Eva has entrusted me to find a family to nanny-share so please contact me if you are interested in finding out more.

Fun & Artistic Daytime Nanny Available!

September 10, 2011

 Hi!

My name is Shannon and I have been working as a nanny and sitter in Portland for the past two years. Prior to this I have several years of sitting experience in Florida as well. Most of my experience has been with 1-3 year olds (toddlers are my favorite age group!), but I also have a lot of experience with infants as young as 3 months and children as old as 6. I have taken care of two to four children, as well as one-on-one care, and have worked in a childcare center.

I am currently looking for jobs that will begin soon and will continue to fit into my school schedule when classes start in a month. I will be available Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00AM until around 4:30PM, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00AM until around 1:00PM, and all day on Fridays.

I am very active and love going on trips to the park, indoor playgrounds, the library, the children's museum, children's music events, music together classes, art classes, and other activities. I have even participated in both baby and toddler swim lessons, children's yoga, and baby sign language classes - all here in Portland. I am a believer in children being actively engaged and stimulated, encouraging learning, discovery, and creativity. I love playing music, doing art projects, reading books, dancing around, and facilitating children's imagination.

I am pet-friendly, eco-friendly, have experience preparing vegan/vegetarian & organic meals, have experience with pumped milk, cloth-diaper experienced, potty-training experienced, little to no television, reading-heavy, active and get outside even on rainy days capable, and much much more!

I have been CPR certified, but do need to renew sometime in the near future. I also have a very reliable car, which I have always used to transport my toddlers, and I am very punctual. $10-$12/hr is generally what I have been paid for caring for one child, and $12-$15/hr caring for two, but I am completely willing to work around your budget. I am also more than willing to do light cooking and cleaning and laundry and have experience with all of these things at several of my previous jobs.

As for some more personal information, I am getting my BFA in Art Practices with focuses in printmaking and photography from PSU this year. I have my own photography business photographing maternity, children, weddings, portraiture, etc. as well. I enjoy music, making it and seeing it, creating art and videos, exploring nature, and being with friends. I moved to Portland two years ago from Florida and I absolutely love it here!

I have a resume and several great references that I would love to email you if you are interested, including the many families I worked with in both Florida and Portland. If you are satisfied with my qualifications I would love to interview as soon as possible, by phone or in person, and see if I would be a good fit for your family, and then have you contact my references.  You can email me at shannon@bearstringhead.com if you would like to set up an interview. Thank you for your time and consideration!

                                Best,
                                Shannon

Hello!

I am 25 year old college graduate and freelance photographer/musican/artist/jewelry/ maker who loves children! Loving Infant/Toddler Nanny PT

Hello my name is Jessie and I am looking for a wonderful family to fill out my week. Let me tell you a little about myself:

I have worked as a nanny for the past 14 years. I recently moved to Portland along with one of the families I nanny for. I am currently taking care of their little one part-time and so I am looking for another family (or possibly nanny-share) for the other two days a week.

I am fun, silly, loving, patient and kind. I love kids of all ages and have experience with babies through teenagers. I support creative play and believe kids should their imaginations as much as possible. I love taking children outside to explore: to the park, the library, the zoo, etc. I have lots of ideas for arts and crafts projects and can keep your little one happily entertained without the TV!

I enjoy preparing fresh, healthy meals for your child and am happy to work with any dietary preferences you have. I also believe in supporting the parenting style you prefer. I am comfortable with cloth diapers, nursing moms and attachment parenting.

Additional info about me:

I have completed coursework in Early Childhood education.

I have 6 years experience working at an Infant/Toddler Center as a primary teacher. This involved working with groups of 4 children (ages 1-3), including children who needed extra help with speech, fine and gross motor skills and children with various behavioral and medical problems.

I am a non-smoker, responsible and reliable.
I am CPR and First Aid certified.
I have my own car and a clean driving record.

I am currently available Tuesdays and Thursdays and would prefer a family in close-in Northeast although would also consider other close-in neighborhoods.

If you think I may be a good fit for your family, please email me at jessiemiller12@gmail.com

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

Fun & Experienced Part-Time Nanny!

Hi! I'm a graduate student looking to nanny for a fun, loving, and wonderful family! I'm very personable, friendly and supportive, and am happy to work with children of any age.

I have a B.S. in Education and have experience directing teen leadership programs, teaching outdoor education and have facilitated/tutored at cooperative learning programs at the elementary school level throughout my undergrad. I love being active and would love to take the kids to do fun things around Portland, but am also content with creating our own adventures at home.

I have great references and am available mornings and most afternoons (my school schedule is pretty flexible - let me know what works for you and we can figure something out!). I'm looking to nanny between 10-20 hours/week.

Hope to hear from you soon!

August 18, 2011

Hey Mamas!

I am currently the nanny for two lovely young twins Mondays and Wednesdays and am looking to pick up approximately 10-20 more hours of work.

I have been in child care for ten years and worked as a nanny here in Portland for three. I have excellent references, my own kid friendly transportation and have experience in every age group!

Looking forward to meeting with you and your kiddos!

Available to Babysit or Nanny

August 16, 2011

Hello! I am available to babysit. I can also nanny temporarily. I am attending college and am currently on summer break until the 26th of September, and until then have a lot of free time on my hands. I have a lot of experience working with children. I am two courses away from completing the Associates degree in Early Childhood Education. Children ages 2-5 have been my area of focus, but I also have experience with infants and older children. I have 55 credits specified towards childcare and also have over 270 hours of professional training in high quality Day Care centers. I also have several years of babysitting experience.

I have skills in using developmentally appropriate guidance approaches, such as redirection, positive reinforcement, effective praise and encouragement, and problem solving. I am experienced in creating activities that can foster children's academic and social development. I also have proof of a criminal history background check, TB testing, and a food handler's card.

I can provide references upon request. Pay is negotiable. I look forward to hearing from you and meeting your little ones!

Lets play.

Hi. I love kids! I think they are great. I currently work as a line cook and a bartender. Although It's been fun, I want out of the kitchen and back into something I never should have left. I have been in Portland for 5 years now and have stayed with the same employer. Before I moved here I lived in Kansas City. There I taught PreK/K at a Montessori school. I also served as the Assistant Director. I have about ten years of experience working with children. Since I have been in another feild I have found I miss the little ones.

Upon working with children again, I am looking to take some classes at PCC and study my way back into Early Education and become a teacher again. I am looking to be in a long term childcare service or serve as a nanny. I would be open to the idea of nannying for two familys at the same time to help with the cost. (pending proper ratio)
I am awesome with children. I always have been. Although I do not have any of my own. I do have a sweet little 10 year old in my life that I adore and love. Children are my calling in life for sure. Below is a list of my work, experiences and my lifestyle. I really hope to hear back from you!

Experienced Nanny Available Part Time Mornings!

August 13, 2011

I am a 27 year old nanny and artist who recently relocated to Portland from Minneapolis. I am looking for one more family to work with who needs a MWF AM schedule- I would be available in the mornings anytime until approximately 1pm.

I have been a nanny/childcare provider full time since 2003, but have been relied on to babysit younger siblings, family members, and neighbors since the late 1990s. I have experience caring for children ages 0-13. I've worked in preschool and in-home childcare settings and was a live-in nanny for 2 years in Baltimore. I am comfortable caring for multiple children of same and varying ages including infants, toddlers, and school age children.

I am committed to providing a high level of care that promotes stability, trust, compassion, creativity, learning, respect, safety, and fun. It is important to me to maintain an environment that allows children freedom to explore the world around them in ways that nurture and encourage autonomy, self-confidence, respect for self and others, and question-asking (with thoughtful answers!)

I am very openminded and accommodating to most parenting styles and have experience with attachment parenting, cloth diapers, special dietary needs (especially food allergies and vegan/vegetarian diets), and homeschooling/unschooling/freeschooling. I also have experience caring for children with physical and other varying abilities and am trained in CPR and First Aid. It is important to me to have an open dialogue with parents and maintain existing routines and dynamics in the home.

I also have a very reliable and safe vehicle and am comfortable driving with children in the car.

My rates are semi-negotiable but generally fall around $12-15/hr (depending on number of children and other factors) and I would be happy to discuss this and provide a list of excellent references and resume to interested families.
