New Child Care Center Opening in the Pearl District in April 2012
February 15, 2012
ChildRoots, A Center for Young Children, (www.childroots.com), is an environmental and Art-and-Science-based learning community, dedicated to providing superior child care for children ages six weeks to six years. ChildRoots, which is located at 50 SE 17th Ave. and E. Burnside, will be opening a new Center location in April in the Pearl District. The new Center, entitled ChildRoots NW, will be located at 1740 N.W. Flanders St. on the corner of N.W. 18th and N.W. Flanders St. The Center is a 9,000 square-foot-space comprised of nine classrooms, with a total capacity for 110 children. The space was formally a Children’s Creative Learning Center (CCLC) child care, aka KinderCare. Because this space was previously home to another child care center, the remodel efforts and structural changes will be minimal.
ChildRoots NW will feature a nice-sized outdoor area for play and its very own parking lot. The Center will also have an art lab and a science lab.
Active enrollment for ages six weeks to six years has begun at ChildRoots NW and the Center will be hiring a total of 35 new teachers to help run the program.
ChildRoots has been recognized by local media including The Oregonian, the Portland Tribune, and the Hollywood Star for its leadership in sustainability. ChildRoots features organic meals and snacks, locally-sourced food, cloth diapers, non-toxic wooden toys, creative spaces, a Preschool Atelier Program, and play-based learning.
