PT Nanny in NW Portland

February 02, 2013

Hi there. We are looking for a PT Nanny for our 2 little girls, ages 5 and almost 3. Those with the ability to play dinosaurs and barbies, color, paint nails, and read the same book multiple times are strongly encouraged to apply :) Fine Print: We are also looking for someone who is mature, responsible, has previous childcare experience with similar ages, safe car and clean driving record, and CPR certified.

We are a professional couple and I work as a graphic designer on a freelance basis. Hours we definitely need are: Wed afternoons (12:45-4) and Fri mornings (9:30-1:30). If you have additional availability, that would be great as I frequently have a need for more hours as my workload fluctuates.

We live just up the hill from the NW 23rd area, right next to a great community center with a large park, playground and preschool. Our girls attend school there and you will need to pickup (on foot) on one day. Our girls also love to go to the zoo, children's museum, etc.

We are also looking for someone who is comfortable pitching in around the house (unloading dishwasher, folding clothes) as time allows. And we have a very slow, but sweet 13 year old lab who occassionaly likes to walk across the street to the park with the girls.

Please contact me if you might be interested.

Thanks so much!

~Terrific Part Time/ Full Time Nanny Open at the end of the Month!~

January 06, 2013

GREAT NANNY, JUST FOR YOU!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Jillian M. Currently I am looking for a new position as a Nanny. I was involved in a Nanny-share for almost the duration of the year but as the contract term ended and the children turned 1 they were placed in Montessori. I am comfortable doing either another nanny-share, or working for one family. I am comfortable working with up to 3 infants, depending on their ages, 4 toddlers, or 5 children in total but this would really depend on the overall dynamic of the situation. I am also comfortable doing care in your home, or mine. Ideally the position would provide at least 36 hours a week, but this is also flexable as I explore my options.

Here's a little information about me. I have an immense amount of experience with children. I started my babysitting career at 12 years old, after I received my Oregon babysitters training, and CPR certification. Since then, I have had experience in taking care of about 25 different children, usually two or more at a time (five max), in in-home settings. My experience with children ranges from newborns to 13-year-olds. About half of my clientele has been parents of children diagnosed with Autism. I have also worked and volunteered with a school that caters to meeting the needs of children diagnosed with Autism . My tasks at the school included building a summer reading program for some of the more advanced students. I directed the students during "signing times" videos (videos that teach the children sign language). I did teacher aide duties in the classrooms working extensively with the pre-schoolers, and in the occupational therapy room. In addition to this experience, I was also a camp counselor in high-school at Camp Howard outdoor school for 2 seasons.

I love to do activities with children. I am not the type of care provider who will sit children in front of the TV and do my own thing. Just to be clear, I rather children have no screen time during my time with them. I prefer for children to have fun. If the parent permits, I like to take them on outings to the park, or maybe a day to the zoo, children's museum, library, or swimming pool depending on the child's interest. I love doing art projects, or fun cooking activities, playing board games, and will even happily partake in dress up or tea parties. As well as making sure the children enjoy the time we spend together, I firmly believe in education. I like to come up with developmentally appropriate activities that stimulate the intellectual growth of each child. For school aged children I come in great handy for help with homework.

I am a student and am working towards a degree in early childhood education. I take courses through the local community college's online program, when I transfer next year I will continue primarily with online education. I am familiar with many learning/parenting styles includingMontessori, Waldorf, Attachment Parenting, and Positive Redirection. What I am unfamiliar with, I am willing to learn. My time spent with your children is based on your needs, their needs, and your parenting beliefs. I am very flexiable when it comes to this as I understand it is your child and I enjoy learning new styles.

I have a license, car insurance, and a car for transporting needs. In addition, I know basic Spanish, and am furthering my skills incase you are interested in your child learning a second language.

I would ideally like a position that offers at least a 1 year contract.

Best,
Jillian

Our wonderful nanny is looking for a new family – N, NE, NW, SE PDX

October 20, 2012

Our wonderful nanny Alisa is looking for a new family. With the new baby on the way and my husband travelling for work, we came to heartbreaking decision that live-in nanny would better fit our needs. The problem is, we love our nanny, and we don’t want her to go! So we are on a mission to find new perfect family for her.

Alisa has been with us for the past year, taking care of our finicky son Eydan. She started with us when Eydan was 6 months old and would not sleep for longer than half an hour. Through this year, she was with us with LO getting constantly sick, fussy, teething – you name it – and she never lost her patience. She has been calm, organized presence and she quickly became part of the family.

Alisa is always smiling, on time and imaginative with Eydan’s activities. She has lots of childcare experience and natural love for kids. If you would like any additional information, please feel free to contact us and we will be glad to answer any questions - milka_vevoda@yahoo.com. We will be sure to forward any information to her.  She is flexible with her schedule and available as of week of October 22nd in N, NE, NW, SE neighborhood. Alisa has reliable transportation, but is unable to put a carseat in her car. It has never been a problem for us, but if you need someone with car with carseat, she may not be your gal. We highly recommend her and know that her new family will be very happy with her.

Thank you!

Waldorf-inspired, outdoor forest preschool still has spaces available for 2012-13 school year (St. Johns/Forest Park)

August 30, 2012

Grandfather sequoia

Humming Hive Forest Preschool is looking for children, 3 or 4 years old, to fill the last 2-day and 4-day spaces.  We would love for your child to join us as we, inspired by the Waldorf philosophy, explore the magic of the forest, sing songs, tell stories, enjoy puppet shows, eat healthy, organic snacks cooked over a fire, garden, do art and crafts, visit the chickens and ducks, and more -- all part of an intention to cultivate a deep connection to the Earth and each other.

We spend all morning, from 9am to 1pm, outside, rain or shine.  The children are always dressed appropriately for the weather, so their days are filled with positive experiences of nature.  We do have a heated yurt, which we will go into on special occasions, and for short periods of time on the coldest days of the year.

Need a PT Nanny for the School Year?

Hello!

My name is Hannah. I'm 24, reliable, very responsible, honest and I have a big heart.

I am looking for part-time nanny work come the school year. I have previous experience with children of different ages. I have worked in an elementary school teaching art, at an overnight camp for fourth graders, a Montessori school for children ages 2.5-5 and I have been a nanny for a family with a 3 year old.

When I started culinary school in 2011 I had to find a flexible part-time position which prevented me from working with kids. I've always enjoyed teaching and have found helping and enriching a child's life very rewarding. I miss it.

Female Professional new to Portland looking for Babysitting clients

August 27, 2012

Hello!

My name is Robyn and I recently relocated from Seattle to the NW District for a great new career opportunity. I am a college educated, single female professional in my mid-thirties and while I don't have any  of my own, I do enjoy spending time with children.

I have years of recent childcare experience with kids ranging from 6-months to 12 years of age. I had a couple of families in Seattle that I would sit for on a regular basis and I really miss them now that I have moved down to PDX.

I work regular hours from Monday to Friday but would be interested in speaking with any families that are looking for the occasional reliable babysitter. I would be glad to meet for an interview and I also have references that would be happy to speak with you and vouch for my character.

Please let me know if you would like to chat. The best to get in touch with me is email robynwoodman@gmail.com.

Thanks so much!

Robyn

Waldorf-Inspired, Outdoor Preschool has a few openings left for 2012-13 school year! (St. Johns/Forest Park)

August 02, 2012

Greetings!

Off we go

Humming Hive Forest Preschool is a Waldorf-inspired, outdoor preschool, located on the edge of Forest Park, just across the bridge from St. Johns.  We welcome children, ages 3-5 years old, for a seasonal curriculum full of song, story, puppets, art, crafts, gardening, animal care, and of course, exploring the magic of the forest.  Healthy, organic snacks are cooked over a fire everyday.  We spend all morning, 9am-1pm outside, rain or shine!  There is a small, heated yurt, which we will use for special occasions, festival celebrations, and the occasional storytime on the coldest days of winter.

If you would like to support your child's connection to nature in a nurturing and imaginative environment, please find out more about Humming Hive!  You can do this at our website, www.humminghive.org.

If you are interested in enrolling your child for this school year, please hurry.  We have only one 4-day schedule (Tuesday-Friday) available.  There are also two or three 2-day schedules (Thursday/Friday) available, and possibly one 3-day schedule (Wednesday/Thursday/Friday) available.

You can also contact Ms. Christy for more information at nwforestpreschool@gmail.com.

Thank you!

I hope to hear from you soon!

Temporary Nanny Share Wanted for 8 Weeks starting 8/20

I am a nurse who needs full time childcare for my 17-mo old son for 8 weeks beginning 8/20 while I go through the Providence Health new employee orientation.  I would love to join a family who employs a reliable nanny in order to help cut your costs for a couple of months and to keep us from having to make a long-term commitment with a commercial provider.  We are in SE but are willing to travel to NE or downtown.  Our son is a great eater/sleeper and is gentle with other children in social situations.  We would like him to get outside to parks, fountains, OMSI, etc as much as possible.  Please email Sarah at SLMA79@YAHOO.COM or call 828.337.7189.

Reggio Emilia, Italian Immersion Preschool in NW- Open for Registration

Scuola Italiana di Portland is accepting registration for its Reggio Emilia-inspired, Italian Immersion preschool in the Pearl District. The preschool is located in the Zimmerman Community Center at 1542 NW 14th Ave.  The program operates Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM.  The program is taught by an experienced, native Italian teacher. The school maintains a 4:1 student teacher ratio.  Children must be 3 years old to attend the program.

The preschool is a full immersion program, meaning Italian is spoken from day one.  However, on occasion, the teacher may find it necessary to use English to help a child understand a word or phrase.  At these times, the teacher will use the “sandwich method” – Italian word| English translation| Italian word again -.

Amazing Au Pairs Available

July 20, 2012

Hey mamas,

We have two Au Pairs who are currently in the US but here as Au Pairs that are looking to continue with a host family.

There are many more amazing Au Pairs available as well. If you have a certain language or culture you want your Au Pair to come from let me know and I can send you a few that may work for you.

Right now the two I am trying to find host families for in Portland are Irina and Stacey.

StaceyLM

Stacey is about to turn 19 years old, has three younger brothers ages, 17, 13 & 1 and is from North Lakes, Australia.  Stacey had her own car in Australia and has been driving while participating in the au pair program.

Stacey’s childcare experience includes working in a school setting with children between the ages of 3 months and 12 years old.  She also provided care for a brother and sister aged 5.  She also provided care for her youngest brother.

IrinaIJ

Irina is 19 years old, has an older brother and is from Disentis, Switzerland.  In addition to fluent German and fluent and Rhaeto-Romance Irina speaks strong English as well as basic French.

Irina’s childcare experience includes caring for three siblings over the course of two years.  They were 10, 9 and 5 when Irina started caring for them.  She also cared for a little girl from the time was 4 until she was 6.

Irina’s hobbies include snowboarding, tennis, volleyball and swimming.  She also plays piano and took singing lessons when she was younger.

Stacey and Irina are participating in the State Department Au Pair program. The State Department created the program in 1987 as a childcare option and cultural exchange experience for American families. We have been participating in the program since 1989 and have placed over 80,000 au pairs with American Families. Please contact me for more information about either Au Pair or the au pair program.

A little about me, I am a local mom here in pdx and I am passionate about attachment parenting, the environment and creativity. I work with an amazing Au Pair program and I believe it fits well with so many Portland families. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or are interested or pass my name and info along! Cheers!

LOVING, EXPERIENCED & RELIABLE MONTESSORI NANNY AVAILABLE NOW!

July 06, 2012

Hello!

I have reliable transportation and am willing to work throughout the Portland metro area.

What I have done before has sometimes gone beyond *just* child care (though it certainly has included it!). I have been a more tradititional nanny, but I have also developed what is more akin to in-home preschool/ elementary school with a large dose of silliness and fun. I love assisting children in their own discoveries and activities, such as art, cooking, gardening/plant care, flower arranging, the Spanish language, and much much more depending on the needs and interests of each unique child.

Should you be interested, I am also offering an additional service wherein I can create an age-appropriate Montessori environment in your home, which maximizes your child's independence and fosters opportunities for learning. This can be accomplished on almost any budget.

I am infant/child CPR and first-aid certified and bilingual (Spanish), and am currently seeking full time work. I am also willing to do some evening/weekend work.

I look forward to meeting and working with you and your children!

Humming Hive Forest Preschool ~ Still has spaces available for the Fall (St. John's/Forest Park)

June 13, 2012

Hello!   Off we go

There are still a few spaces left for children, ages 3 - 5 years old, next school year at Humming Hive Forest Preschool, a Waldorf-inspired outdoor preschool.  We are located on the edge of Forest Park, on a hill in the forest, just across the bridge from St. Johns.  We spend the whole morning outside, from 9am to 1pm, rain or shine, singing songs, building fairy houses, telling stories, learning about the plants and animals, doing art and crafts, eating wholesome, organic snacks cooked over a fire, and exploring the magic of the forest.  We also have a garden and 5 friendly chickens, who we visit every day.

There is a yurt, heated with a wood stove, for special occasions and to warm up for a bit on those especially cold days.

We meet Tuesday through Friday, 9am - 1pm, with 2-day, 3-day, and 4-day options.  Please check the website, www.humminghive.org, for more information, and to schedule a tour.    If you have questions, please e-mail Christy at nwforestpreschool@gmail.com.

ChildRoots, A Center for Young Children, (www.childroots.com), is an environmental and Art-and-Science-based learning community, dedicated to providing superior child care for children ages six weeks to six years.  ChildRoots, which is located at 50 SE 17th Ave. and E. Burnside, has a new Center location in the Pearl that opened in April.  The new Center, entitled ChildRootsNW, is located at 1740 N.W. Flanders St. on the corner of N.W. 18th and N.W. Flanders St.  The Center is a 9,000 square-foot-space comprised of nine classrooms, with a total capacity for 110 children.  The space was formally a Children’s Creative Learning Center (CCLC) child care, aka KinderCare. Because this space was previously home to another child care center, the remodel efforts and structural changes will be minimal.

ChildRootsNW features a nice-sized outdoor area for play and its very own parking lot. The Center will also have an art lab and a science lab.

Active enrollment for Preschool has begun at ChildRootsNW.

ChildRoots has been recognized by local media including The Oregonian, the Portland Tribune, the Hollywood Star, and Metro Regional Government for its leadership in sustainability.  ChildRoots features organic meals and snacks, locally-sourced food, cloth diapers, non-toxic wooden toys, creative spaces, a Preschool Atelier Program, and play-based learning.

For information about enrolling at ChildRoots NW, please contact Christina or Beverly at (503) 227-2630 to set up a tour.
