Our daughter loves her school and has so much fun playing with her friends, learning about nature, and being outside in the woods every day.  We are thankful for such warm and loving teachers who offer their guidance and support in such a loving way, creating an environment where each child loves to come to school and is thriving.”

We believe in early learning experiences that inspire wonder, invite creativity, and nurture the whole child. Whether children are sharing a quiet story with a beloved teacher, scaling the top of the rock wall on our play yard, creating a masterpiece in our art studio, or learning about physics hands-on in our atelier program; our schools aim to provide a warm, loving, and safe space to grow, play, and learn.

Inspired by the schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy, our teachers act as co-learners. We observe and document each child's interests, ask questions that provoke thought and experimentation, and design learning experiences that inspire wonder.

Our schools feature large outdoor play spaces, beautiful classrooms with colors and materials inspired by the natural world, organic and vegetarian meals prepared by our on-site chef, and reusable cloth diapers.

ChildRoots has 3 locations in the heart of Portland, and we currently have summer and fall availability for preschoolers at our Southeast school

Take a look at our website to learn more, and we'd be more than happy to talk with you about our wonderful program.

New Italian Kindergarten Offers One-of-a-Kind Program in Portland Metro

April 12, 2017

123456 prek

Throughout Portland, kindergarten programs abound.  However, there is none quite like the new Scuola Italiana Kindergarten program which is slated to open next fall.  This unique program offers both Italian and English language instruction by fusing Italian language and culture together with the necessary English language kindergarten skills to create well rounded, world citizens equipped to enter any first-grade classroom.

Did you know that providing foreign language opportunities to kids is truly a gift that keeps on giving?  There are plenty of studies that illustrate the truly amazing and lifelong benefits associated with learning a foreign language.  Better problem solving skills, higher test scores, greater overall academic success are just a few of those advantages.  Now who doesn’t want that for their child?!  Additionally, children im
mersed in second language at an early age have the very real possibility of becoming native-fluent in that language.

It is not necessary to have Italian language experience yourself to enroll your child in kindergarten.  Our teachers understand that most parents will not know Italian, and they are prepared to share tried and true tips, fun and educational resources, and other helpful information that empowers you support your child’s progress.  For parents who might wish to learn the language simultaneously, we offer a comprehensive adult program

If your child is not yet ready for kindergarten, Scuola Italiana has several other wonderful opportunities available for you and your child.  We can begin by sharing Italian language with you and your child as early as 18 months through our free Mommy and Me Playgroup.  Playgroup is designed for toddlers aged 18 – 42 months old.  We also have an excellent Reggio Emilia inspired preschool program and after school and weekend classes too.   Summer culture camps are open between June and August when regular classes are not in session.

If you’d like to learn more about our new, one-of-a-kind kindergarten program or any of the other children’s classes, please join Scuola Italiana teachers and staff for an open house on Saturday, April 29th from noon to 2:00 pm.  The open house is at 1542 NW 14th AVE, Portland, OR 97209 (14th & Quimby).

Can’t make our open house?  Please email questions or arrange a visit at info@scuola.us.

Since 2006, Scuola Italiana has operated with a mission to promote the Italian language and culture to children and adults in a student-centered environment; nurturing responsible, global citizens by providing cross-cultural understanding and fostering a deep appreciation for world civilizations that intersect with the Italian culture.

Seeking nanny or nanny share for 6 month old

January 07, 2017

Hi there,

we are looking for a nanny or nanny share beginning mid-February for our daughter Artemis, who is going to be 6 months old by then. We live in NW Portland and we are open to many options. Ideally, we are looking for a family with a full time nanny that they would like to add an infant to a few days a week, or a nanny with some flexibility. We would like to start with 3 days a week and then switch to full time. We are pretty flexible location wise as it is not more than 20 min drive, alternatively we could host at our place.

Looking fwd to hearing from you.

Best,

Christina

Creative, caring nanny looking for Full/Part time Position!

January 02, 2017

Hello and Happy New Year!

My name is Alaina, I am a 29 year old Portland native looking for my next family to Nanny for! My ideal position would be three 10-12 hour days, doesn't matter what days of the week, if the days switch off each week, or if they are consecutive week days off together. I am just hoping to find something around 30-35 hours per week, also open to a nanny share situation. I am a new mom to a 4 month old boy, named Leo. I absolutely love being a mom, he's such a sweet little guy and has been nothing but a joy in our life. My mother has graciously offered to watch Leo 2 days a week, but I would love to be able to bring him one day a week to work. This can be discussed in greater detail of course. I know this may not sound ideal to some families, but I can assure you it would have no negative effect on me being a nanny to your family. I would give equal attention to each child, and I love the thought of my son growing up with other children, and forming lasting friendships. I started my last nanny job in January 2016, which I was with full time until September when I went on maternity leave. The plan was to return to work at the start of January 2017 and bring Leo with me, but things changed with the families work schedule and they can no longer guarantee a set amount of hours anymore, since the mom will be home more often, so here I am!
I live in SW Portland in the Raleigh Hills area, so keeping it within a 20-30 min drive at most would be helpful (especially with this growing Portland traffic!)
A little about me, my work history, and teaching style.

I have grown up in the Portland metro area my whole life, I love Oregon and all if has to offer. Like most Oregonians, I love the lifestyle we are able to have by living here, beautiful day hikes, weekend trips to the Oregon Coast, camping, and trying a new awesome restaurant each weekend. Eating locally and as healthy as possible is very important for me. Which is why staying active, and eating fresh is definitely incorporated as much as possible when I am watching children. I like to have the kids help me cook, get them involved and show them what its like to eat from the garden, daily walks, and exploring all nature has to offer. Rain or shine, I need to go outside everyday! I very much believe a child's imagination is the most important thing to exercise and discover, and no better place to do that then the great outdoors. I grew up in a large family, with my parents, two older sisters, and a younger brother. I now have 4 nieces, and the family keeps growing. I feel very lucky to have them all live close by so Leo can grow up surrounded by his grandparents and cousins.

I have been working with children for the past ten years, from being a full time nanny, preschool teacher, and teacher assistant in the Beaverton School District. Even though all my jobs have been working with children, each job has proved different from the last. I have learned so much in each position, with the different types of teaching styles, parenting styles, ages, sibling behavior, and children with special needs, my passion for being a teacher/caregiver only grows stronger.

Being a Nanny has always been my favorite job of them all. The bond and relationships you form are extremely rewarding and irreplaceable. I have nannied children ranging from 4MO-14years old. As a parent I can only imagine how hard it is to leave your children everyday for work, that’s why as a nanny I make sure the children know they are loved and cared for everyday, I am there for any questions and concerns they have, and am there to teach them and help them grow. I love to stay positive and active. From working in school environments in the past I have taken to implementing some things into my nanny life. Making sure each day has time for reading, crafts, down time, dance/play, and outdoor learning/activities. I know every family is different, some are more structured and scheduled, others may not follow a schedule, with that said I am open to whatever makes the family feel most at ease and comfortable.

As I search for the next family to work with, I am hoping to find something long-term, at least a year+ commitment would be ideal. I want to treat my next job as much as a career as possible, 1 week paid vacation/holiday pay, and a guaranteed amount of hours each pay period. I have a weekly sheet I fill out for the families, which includes activities done throughout the day, food intake, potty/nap schedule, miles driven, expenses used, and hours for the day. It really helps the parents and I keep track in an organized way and it’s seemed to work out really well.

I can imagine trying to find the right Nanny for your family to be a very hard process. I don't blame the family for wanting to maybe have a lengthy hiring process, or wanting to do a trial run to see if you are a right fit before hiring, and to me that makes so much sense. You can't be too sure when you know this person is going to be watching your children. So with that said, I am available for contact through e-mail or phone. If you're interested I can send my resume, which gives in greater detail my childcare experience, I also have great references that are more then willing to chat with you, and we can chat on the phone before meeting to see if we would be a good fit for each other!

I have a 2002 Subaru Outback, which is a very safe and reliable car. I have had my license since I was 16, with an amazing driving record. I recently renewed my First Aid/CPR training and am enrolled in the Criminal Background Check. I am comfortable with pets, and don't mind walking the dog. I am comfortable with meal prep, light housekeeping, and running errands. I don't smoke.

In my last few positions I was getting paid $16 hourly for two children. I am willing to go down to $15 for one child. If its a Nanny share situation I would charge $9 an hour per family.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, I am a very caring, reliable, patient, and open minded person, I look at being a Nanny as a career, and not just a job to have until I find something better. I am very excited to find the next family to work with. Thanks again, and I hope to hear from you!

Portland Nanny Looking for FT (Nanny share/my home/your home)

December 01, 2016

Hello! My name is Alaina and I am 28-year-old Portland native, who's hoping to find a 30-35 hour a week nanny position starting in January. I am available M-F, and open to many options! Nanny share, my home, your home, switching off throughout the week. Whatever is easiest for the family can be discussed.

I am a new mom to a soon to be 12 week little boy named Leo. He is the sweetest, most even tempered, curious, happy baby and I feel very lucky to be his mom. I started my last nanny job in January 2016, which I was with full time until September when I went on maternity leave. The plan was to return to work at the start of January 2017 and bring Leo with me, but things changed with the families work schedule and they can no longer guarantee a set amount of hours anymore, since the mom will be home more often.  I am going to miss them, they were a great family and we all got along really well. With that said, I am looking forward to my next nanny adventure!

I have a couple options I am open to, and would be equally thrilled to be apart of.

The first being a nanny share with 2 babies at someone's house. Since I would be bringing Leo with me, I think it would be awesome to have other babies close to his age or even up to 1 year old. I've had friends in this scenario and they loved it and said it worked or great! Plus, Leo doesn't have many friends yet and I'm almost certain he would love some. :)

The second being dropping off 1-2 babies with me. I live in SW Portland, although my place is very cute and perfect for my little family of 3 at the moment, it would sadly be too small to entertain multiple babies, so my parents has graciously offered their home to me. My parents live in Tigard, in the Morning Hill neighborhood. Very close to Summer Lake Park, and the new Progress Ridge developments. They have 5 grandchildren who love visiting because of their warm environment and lots of toys! There would be a designated play-room with cribs, age appropriate toys, and anything else needed for the babies. A clean kitchen for eating and snack time, and an awesome backyard with a new large deck for endless outdoor activities!

For both of these scenarios I would charge $9.00 per child and would need to be guaranteed no less then 27-28 hours per week and not exceeding 35-38 hours. If only one child, pay would need to be increased but for the sake of each family and payment costs, I am really hoping for two children to cut costs for everyone!

A little about me, my work history, and teaching style.

I have grown up in the Portland metro area my whole life, I love Oregon and all if has to offer.

If you're interested I can send my resume, and references which gives in greater detail my childcare experience, we can chat on the phone before meeting to see if we would be a good fit for each other!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, I am a very caring, reliable, patient, and open minded person, I look at being a Nanny as a career, and not just a job to have until I find something better. I am very excited to find the next family to work with. Thanks again, and I hope to hear from you!

ChildRoots is Enrolling Toddlers and Preschoolers!

November 09, 2016

DSC_5164

This is ChildRoots. We believe that children are capable and strong. They deserve beautiful spaces, high-quality materials, and curriculum that is built upon their interests. They deserve to be listened to and respected — their ideas are powerful. They deserve organic, whole foods; and spaces to run, jump, skip, and yell. They deserve a community that nurtures social and emotional intelligence and introduces letters and numbers. They deserve teachers that enliven their natural curiosity and foster a lifelong love of learning. We’re inspired by busy brains, running feet, and muddy puddles to stomp in. We ask questions, and respect each child’s innate curiosity. We look closer.

Our schools provide exceptional care for children ages 6 weeks - 6 years. Our preschool program promotes language, literacy, math, and kindergarten readiness through a holistic, child-led approach. Our on-site art studios spark creativity. Our atelier program offers children the opportunity to delve deep into such fascinating topics as engineering, history, physics, kinetic art, printmaking, and drama. Open-ended, natural toys and loose parts inspire wonder and enliven curiosity. The loving relationships that children build with teachers and friends over their years here shape their community.

They say that it takes a village to raise a child. Welcome to ChildRoots -- we’re here for you. We’d love to be a part of your village.

Very Part Time Nanny Available - until end of May 2016

December 07, 2015

10712891_316259861879380_7571252223867451494_n

Hello! My name is Jenni, and I am in my late 20's, living in the NE Portland Woodlawn neighborhood. I am currently looking for some part-time (roughly 10-15 hrs a week) childcare work. I will be leaving Portland in June, so I can only commit until the end of May. I love love love working with children, and have been doing so since I was 13. I mainly have cared for 2-5 year olds, though I have experience with infants to tweens. My childcare approach is one that values loving presence, healthy attachment, emotional intelligence / healthy expression, and creative exploration. I love to play outside all times of the year. I enjoy cooking healthy, wholesome, organic meals. I am tidy, and always leave spaces better than I found them. My days and times are currently flexible, though I would love something consistent. I have a strong community of friends, and many of them nannies, so I could likely support the transition when the time comes by helping find my replacement (though no guarantees). I am currently training in Mindfulness / Body-Centered therapy and will be moving into a career as a counselor in the next couple years. I have found my work with children feeds that work and vice-versa. My background is also in yoga, mindfulness, and meditation, and I love finding subtle ways to bring that into children's lives. Activities I love to share are: going on adventures in nature, even if only to the park or around the block, making music or teaching songs, going to see fun shows or to museums, doing seasonal crafts with recycled & / or natural materials, reading or making up stories, dance parties, yoga / stretching, cooking projects, & more! I have a car available for use, it can fit two car seats. I am insured and have a clean record.

I love reading and learning about alternative childcare, so if there is a topic or a book you are particularly passionate about, I would likely be more than happy to read it in my spare time, and incorporate it in my work.

Please email me with your interest Jengold23@gmail.com - I would love to hear about you & your family, your values, what neighborhood you live in, & sending pictures is always helpful! Please do not email me for full-time work as I am not interested or available. Please note: I am in school one weekend (including Friday) a month, so if you need consistent care on those days, I am not able to meet that need.

FYI - my rates begin at $15 an hour, and increase by $2 for each additional child. I am happy to provide references upon request.

Thank you for reading. Be well.

Waldorf Inspired Teacher Guided Nanny Share/Adventure Group Has Wednesday Morning Openings!

September 30, 2015

Hi There!

IMG_7071

My name is Sara pronounced (Sahra) and I am a Waldorf inspired teacher with over 17 years of childcare experience with children of all ages. My time with children has taught me how to slow down, find playful moments in every activity, and to stay present, loving, and kind. I have created a sweet little spin off of my former preschool, Sweet River bamboo, that I created and taught at for 3 years in the form of a nanny share. If I were asked to describe in one word the quality of the relationships I cultivate with children, it would be... Magical. There is space available for 1-2 children in my play group on Wednesdays from 9a-1p/3:30p. This nanny share arrangement is ideal for families who want their children to socialize and explore creativity and nature weekly, and who want to gently introduce/or continue offering their child a small group of children to engage with in a warm and loving environment. This childcare group is well established and a high quality group with extremely mindful care and thoughtful parenting.

Your child will be playing with 2 year old Macy and 4 year old Seamus for the day. We are in Macy's home until 1p and then at Seamus's home after that for nap/rest time. Macy is kind and strong. She loves filling up her back packs for adventures, and playing dress up. Seamus is an energetic tender spirit who loves to build polar bear dens and play chase. Both children love to make art, cuddle, and read books. Our rhythm is filled with playtime, song circles, and craft making that celebrate the seasons and infuse our time together with rich, collaborative activities. There is a lot of silliness and laughter too! If our group size allows, we visit playgrounds and venture out to the local gardens around town. There is a lot of silliness and laughter too! Our days are media free aside from world music that  accompanies our dance jams. I would like to bring our new group together as soon as possible so we can all get to know each other and settle into our rhythm. I have excellent references to share with you so please contact me at 503-432-6414 or saralizadeh@hotmail.com to learn more about this arrangement. Above all, I truly see children as whole beings of love and light, and I deeply enjoy getting to know each and every little one who joins my path and shares their magic with me. Please check out my former preschool's facebook page, Sweet River Bamboo and extended childcare post to get a sense of the quality of care I provide children.

Thank you!

Sara

Seeking FT Nanny & 2nd Family for Nanny-Share in Beaverton/Aloha area

April 03, 2015

Hello,

We are looking for a fantastic nanny to watch our almost 3  year old son (June 30th birthday) and newborn son (Feb. 4th birthday) starting May 4th when I return to work. It will be full-time 35-45 hours per week Monday- Friday. Our ideal nanny has experience with infants and toddlers and loves the outdoors. We live in a great neighborhood perfect for walks to the park and activities outside.

For a potential family, we believe that another toddler would be ideal for a nanny-share (18mo+) and are open to hosting full-time at our house or sharing part-time at yours.

Please contact me at your soonest convenience if you are interested or know someone that is.

Thank you,

Nanny & Nanny Share Opportunity in NW PDX (Cedar Mill)

March 21, 2015

Hello!

We are looking for a both a nanny and another family interested in a nanny share opportunity in our Cedar Mill home. We have a 9-month old son, who would like a caring nanny and maybe a friend to share his days with.

For a nanny: This is a full time position, 35-45 hours per week (~8a-5p), M-F, with every other Wednesday off. We are looking for a caregiver who is reliable, mature and knowledgeable on the sleep/developmental needs of kiddos under 1 years old. We will expect a consistent schedule for our son each day, and for him to be taken outside for a walk or to play every day, rain or shine.  Most days with him are spent playing, practicing walking, going outside, and reading many, many books. As our son gets older and it becomes more appropriate, we would support getting him and the nanny involved in activities during the day. We would also like for a nanny to help us with some household duties during nap times, as appropriate. As this post indicates, we hope to find a nanny share with one additional child at some point in the future.

For a potential family: We would like to host this nanny share, and are open to sharing either part time or full time. We think another child aged 3 months-21 months would be a good fit for our son. We have a lower level that is childproofed, secure and filled with age-appropriate toys. Our son is showing much interest in children his age, and would like this nanny share to be an opportunity for more socializing and learning from peers. My husband and I have a laid back parenting style, but work hard to create a loving, healthy and stimulating environment for our son. We would probably be a good fit for another family with similar values.

Please contact me at melissa.teahen@gmail.com if you'd like to know more, thanks for your interest!

Reliable and Responsible Nanny Available

March 16, 2015

Hi, I am a nanny seeking a new family to work for. I have experience with infants, toddlers, preschoolers and beyond and am looking for a long term commitment beginning no later than mid April, but as early as March 30th.

I am patient, reliable and responsible. Activities I like to do with kids include reading, arts and crafts, playing outside (even if it means getting dirty,) going to the pool, bike rides, walks around the neighborhood, trips to OMSI, zoo, forestry center, story time etc.

I am happy to assist with meal prep, children's laundry, sleep training, making baby food, walking the dog etc.

I am college educated, and have several great references who are happy to talk with you. I am a generally happy person who is a good communicator. I am seeking a family who is happy, communicates well, and is looking for a long term (1+ yr) commitment.

I am seeking a family who needs care on Tue, Thur and/or Fridays. I am open to non-traditional schedules, so if you work evenings, or extra long days, I am happy to discuss it. I also have experience with multiples and nanny shares. I do not have a car, but get around by bus, bike and foot without any problems. I live in inner NE and am hoping to find a family nearby or easy to get to by bus and/or bike.

My rates are $14-18 depending on the number of children and related duties. I can be reached at greatpdxnanny@hotmail.com

Thanks! Sara
