My husband and I live in NE Portland (Piedmont area) and have 9-month old boy/girl twins. I have been lucky enough to stay home with our kids full time but am ready to return to work and will need part time childcare in my home beginning in August. We are looking for someone who can work two days a week, preferably tues/wed or wed/thu, eventually increasing to three days a week. 
 
We are an active, affectionate, vegetarian and eco-conscious family. The ideal nanny for us is professional, loving, gentle, and committed to the well-being of our children. If we could, we would stay home with the babies. We are seeking a nanny who becomes a stand-in, rather than a babysitter. Ideally we would love to find someone who has experience with twins - or at least multiple children within the same age range. We hope for childcare focused on creativity, active play, learning and nutrition. Infant/child CPR skills are desired and serious candidates will be asked for background check and referrals.

Are you looking for some more social interaction for your 18 month-4 year old? Perhaps a little more mama/papa time for yourself? We are a group of mamas located in close-in NE/N Portland that are part of a family nannyshare - It currently runs 4 days a week 9-5 (currently only 9-1 on Mondays....) and kids come either for the a.m. (9-1), p.m. (1-5) or all day. Some come just one 1/2 day a week others come more. You can choose the number of days per week as space allows. There are up to 4 kids at a time total in different families homes. We are organized and have had great success over the past few years keeping our costs down and the social interaction for our kids up....as well as finding a great nanny who gets paid well!

The cost is a super affordable $5/hr per child. We have an amazing nanny who is mellow, fun, creative and is very comfortable and confident with all kinds of little personalities. She is CPR and First Aid certified. The children that come range from 16 months to 4yrs old (average is 3 years). We are looking for some new families to join us. Childcare for 12month old in N. Portland

I have recently become dissapointed with the daycare my daughter has been attending since she was 3 months.  The ratios seem very high, and I have seen the caregivers pick up the babies by one arm, and just leave babies crying on the ground. 

So, I am on the hunt for a new option.  I want to feel confident in the care my daughter is receiving.  I don't have an option not to work, so because of that, I want to know that since she can't be with me during the days, she is in good hands and learning in a nurturing environment. 

Is this possible to find?  Or do all daycares have high ratios?  I don't want a nanny unless it was a nanny share because I want her socializing.  However, rather than just look in the phonebook, I was hoping the fellow urbanMamas may have some suggestions.

For toddlers and older children, I believe in learning while playing, silliness, and redirection if needed. Although I am flexible, I do believe that children thrive with some consistency and structure.  I think that children (and I) do best to get out of the house daily, even if it's just for a walk around the neighborhood.  I love to go on outings to coffee shops (Urban Grind is my new favorite find to take babies and toddlers), OMSI, the Zoo, story time, baby gym, indoor park, etc.

Looking for Full-Time In-Home Care

We are looking for full-time in-home care with a licensed provider in NE or North Portland for our 3 year old son.  He is not potty-trained. We are currently using a Center that is excellent, but just isn't quite working for our son. We moved back to Portland 6 months ago after many years living out-of-state and could use help finding a setting that fits our needs.  We are pretty experienced with seeking childcare and have used a nanny and nanny-shared as well as an in-home provider between our two sons.

Ideally, we would like a provider who has a degree in early childhood or a lot of early childhood on-the-job training and experience.  Someone with this background who wants to stay home and take care of children as a profession would be fabulous. Seeking SAHM for FT/4 days childcare, N PDX

We are looking for a SAHM with a toddler to watch out little ones! I wish I could stay home myself and we absolutely support this type of arrangement, in fact we have had this situation before. It is a great social situation for our son and it also supports you and your family. Plus it makes going to work not as hard.

We need someone to come to our house because my husband has to leave by 7am and I usually leave earlier than that. He just cannot get out the door by 7am trying to dress and ready 2 babies and drop them off.

We would need help full time, but four days a week Tues-Friday 7am to 5pm (my husband rarely gets home at 5 pm, it is usually 4 or 4:30, but just in case).

We live within walking distance to a community center that offers activities during the day. Previous nannies have said that our babies are sweet and easy, I agree, but who am I to say.

Some details: Our 2 year old is really sweet, silly and loves trains, books, snuggles and trucks. He is quite verbal at this point. We are having loads of fun with him. Our 7 month old is a happy, mellow, chubby little guy  who loves to snuggle and laugh at his brother. The only time he will complain is if he is bored and wants someone to snuggle him. I usually just wear him in the back pack when I am cooking.

We are somewhat attachment parenting, no TV, no sweets kinds of a family.  However, my husband and I are quite mellow and really want our boys to be in loving, patient hands.

Additionally, with me in graduate school (nursing) and my husband working as a teacher, we cannot afford to pay a super high hourly wage and are offering a salary (negotiable), 2 weeks paid vacation (xmas and spring break), paid holidays, meals and other perks.

Childcare available for a happy little friend (infant - preschooler)

I care for a great little group of friends here in my home in inner NE Portland near MLK and Rodney.  I currently have a very small group and am looking to add a couple more personalities into the mix.  I would love to add an infant to the group but would gladly accept ages up to 4 years old.

We love to sing and dance, read books, have puppet shows, do puzzles, art projects, preschool activities and play with all of our toys in our great play-space and baby-room.  We have an organic garden and chickens that the kids get to "help" with in our great big back yard.

I provide healthy home-cooked meals and include many organic foods but we do eat some conventional foods as well.  I provide a loving and comfortable environment and lots of hugs but I have found that when working with a group it isn't feasible to accommodate attachment parenting. 

I was a nanny for many years before becoming a mom myself and I have been providing care here in my home for the past five or so years.  I can provide many loving references.

N. Mississippi and Lombard

N & NE PDX Playgroup ages 18-24 mos

A couple of us mamas have started a play group in N and NE Portland and we're looking for a few more kids to participate.  The group is for toddlers aged 18-24 months (with a little wiggle room on either side).  The group will be supervised by a play group nanny, who has a great deal of previous experience working with young children.  The group will consist of a lot of free play, with some story-reading, singing, outdoor play, art, music and other semi-structured activities.

Seeking PT Nanny for Two Infants in N Portland

We are two families seeking a nanny to provide part-time care for our infants, ages 6 and 7 months. Our ideal schedule would be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from about 8 AM to 4 PM, though we have some flexibility for the right person.

We would like someone who has experience with infants and understands how to read their cues and meet their needs. Someone who is active and healthy, who is willing to go for walks and interact with and stimulate our babies throughout the day. Someone who would not even think to watch television or spend time talking or texting on the phone during the work day (and has a real understanding of why this is so important). We would ask that you be certified in infant first aid and CPR or be willing to do so. Additionally, we would require a background check and references. Candidate must be willing to use cloth diapers and be supportive of breastfeeding.

Seeking Full-Time Care for 2 1/2 Year Old

Part-Time Nanny Share in N/NE Portland

We are an educated, professional, married couple with a 2 year old son and currently take care of one other child (female, age 2.5) in our home. We are looking for up to two more children (up to 4 total) to add to our group for the summer.

Chris has an undergrad degree in Music and a Masters in Early Childhood Education. Fara has been a nanny for three years and has a degree in social work. We have excellent childcare references and offer a warm, loving, playful, music filled environment for your child (ages 1-4).

We provide two organic snacks and lunch daily and usually take at least one outing to places like a park, the zoo, OMSI, community play gyms, New Seasons, and the library every day.

Teen looking to babysit -- N Portland

My stepdaughter is available to babysit for for "date nights" or weekend days (daytime in the summer).  She has a couple families she sits for now, but would like to find a few more. She is 15, attends MLC and is Red Cross certified. She commutes to the home by bus, but would need a ride back if she is needed late into the night. We live in North Portland (Overlook neighborhood, near Adidas campus/New Seasons) and would like to work in close in, east side or north PDX neighborhoods.

She is most comfortable with children who are potty trained, but has sat for those as young as 6 mos (her half brother). Since we're connecting via the internet, we'll ask that we meet you first to make sure it's a safe situation for her and the fit is a good one. She has been making $5-6 an hour.

Looking for Childcare in N/NE Portland

I am looking for suggestions for childcare for my baby girl beginning in September.  I have yet to find a good site that summarizes the options in the Portland area.  One factor is I really only need 6 hours/day, so am not looking for an entire day of childcare.  I am open to both centers, as well as in-home or nanny share.  Primarily, I just want to feel comfortable with where my baby girl will be during that time, and also comfortable with the rate.  Please share any suggestions you may have!
