Seeking part-time working mama interested in doing a childcare swap (N/NE portland)

November 27, 2017

Hello! I am a new mom of a 6 month old baby boy and I work 24 hours a week as an Occupational Therapist. I would LOVE to find another like minded mama who works part time on opposite days and would be interested in a long-term childcare swap situation. Ideally, I'd love to find a family who lives in North or Inner NE Portland, has 1 (maybe 2) young kiddos, and would be able to watch my cutie on T/F and one other weekday (the 3rd day is currently Monday but could be changed). I would watch the kids on the opposite weekdays and could do a weekend day to balance out the swap. Or we could do a nanny share for all the kids for one day a week and just swap 2 days.  I'm up for getting creative! I am very skilled at watching multiples and I would really love for my son to be cared for alongside other kids. Things we value in our family are loving and interactive care, being outdoors, music and other sensory stimulating play that is age appropriate, healthy eating, avoiding technology exposure (no screen-time) and avoiding exposure to strong fragrances/phthalates.  If this post strikes your fancy, please contact me at jessicagbarton@gmail.com. We currently have stable and loving care for our son and will only pursue a swap if we find the right family.

Experienced nanny with master’s degree available for PT or occasional childcare

September 25, 2017

Hi Portland families!

My name is Laurel and I am available for part-time, occasional and/or temporary care. I have been working full-time as a nanny for 2 and a half years and have been providing childcare for nearly 20 years to children of all ages, ranging from newborn to adolescence.

I’ve just launched my own small business providing design and organization services to individuals and families (which is why I can’t commit to another full-time position). The business is all about working together with families to create supportive, enriching environments for children at home (and finding better ways to manage all the toys, gear and paper that kids acquire). If you want to learn more about the services I offer, please check out my website at www.nurturingspacespdx.com.

A bit more about me: I studied Family Studies and Human Development as an undergrad and Social Work (with a concentration in Children and Families) as a graduate student. I worked with at-risk children and families as a home visiting social worker before moving into the field of early childhood education where I worked as an educator in both a toddler and mixed age preschool classroom.

I believe that children learn through relationships, play and the ability to interact with a variety of materials and environments. I believe in the power of predictable routines, honest and clear communication, and firm and consistent boundaries. I offer children authentic choices and invite their active participation in the day’s routine whenever possible. I value and welcome the full range of children’s feelings while acknowledging that not all behaviors are acceptable. Janet Lansbury is my guru for all child care related questions (she’s got a great website with lots of helpful info).

I'm CPR/First Aid certified, have a driver's license, a clean driving record and a safe car.

I like to spend my free time cooking, exploring the incredible wild spaces of the Pacific Northwest, practicing yoga, scouring secondhand stores and watching adventure films.

I'm reliable, experienced and I feel confident that I can provide respectful, responsive care for your child(ren). Please let me know if you have any questions. I have plentiful, glowing references, which I would love to share with you if you’re interested. I look forward to hearing from you!

Warmly,

Laurel

Need Summer Care? ChildRoots is Enrolling!

Need summer coverage? ChildRoots NW has openings!

At ChildRoots, we believe that children are capable and strong. They deserve beautiful spaces, high-quality materials, and curriculum that is built upon their interests. They deserve to be listened to and respected — their ideas are powerful. They deserve organic, whole foods; and spaces to run, jump, skip, and yell. They deserve a community that nurtures social and emotional intelligence and introduces letters and numbers. They deserve teachers that enliven their natural curiosity and foster a lifelong love of learning. We’re inspired by busy brains, running feet, and muddy puddles to stomp in. We ask questions, and respect each child’s innate curiosity. We look closer.

Our preschool program is influenced by the schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy. We believe that children are powerful, independent, and capable; and our program is designed to nurture these traits to build empowered, confident thinkers, dreamers, and tinkerers.

  • We’re committed to building community. Multiple school-wide and class events throughout the year bring us together for celebration, conversation, and shared experiences.
  • Our daily summer camp program offers children the chance to explore a variety of topics in small groups. See a sample atelier term schedule below.
  • On-site art studio offers each child the chance to experiment with a variety of different media, including sculpture, collage, printmaking, and textiles.

ATELIER SCHEDULE: Motion

Week 1: Woodshop
Week 2: Horticulture
Week 3: Movement
Week 4: Animation
Week 5: Locomotives
Week 6: Chemistry
Week 7: Advanced Filmmaking
Week 8: Water Science

ChildRoots has three locations in the heart of Portland, and we currently have just a few openings for ages 2 - 6 at our Northwest location. Interested in learning more? Check out our website, give our enrollment office a call at (503) 235-1151, or shoot us an email. We can't wait to get in touch.

Childcare Openings

March 05, 2017

Hi all! My name is Charlene Adams and I'm an in home childcare provider in North Portland. I'm located between Morgan St and Buffalo St. I've been doing childcare out of my home for about 8 years now, but before this, I was a childcare teacher at Legacy Emanuel's Childcare center. I worked there for a little over 21 years, but after they closed down due to lack of funding, I was forced to find another job. Inhome childcare has been a perfect fit! I'm a licensed childcare provider and I have my food handler's card, my recognizing child abuse certification, CPR, first aid, and an approved background check. In my care, we have a set schedule which consists of sign language lessons, learning their ABC's and numbers, story time, and a daily walk (if the weather is nice). Meals are provided. My hours are 7:30 am - 5:30 pm Monday -Friday. Currently, I have 3 full time children (ages 4 months, 7 months, and a 2 and a half year old). I like to keep my group small by not going over 6 kids. I have 3 openings for ages 2 and up. If you'd like more information, you can shoot me an email at adamscharlene1965@yahoo.com OR you can give me a call at (503) 891-6838. Thanks! I hope to hear from you!

Fridays 9-2: Nanny share with 4.5 year old girl in North Portland.

February 21, 2017

We'd love to find another child to share our nanny with our daughter on Fridays, on her day off preschool, before they go to pick up our older daughter at school. A girl around her age would be ideal. Our daughter is starting kindergarten in the fall, loves art, dancing, dressing up.  Would be $9/hour for each of us.  9-2, or another period between 8:30 and 2:30 could work as well. Would be at our home in Arbor Lodge (and nearby parks etc.), or possibly at yours if nearby. Let me know if you are interested and we can see if it's a fit. Laura @ 310-736-5359

Now Accepting applications for 2017-2018 waitlist (4 guaranteed spaces open, availability now), for ages 2.5 years -6 years. Children must be in pull-ups for September 1 2017.

We love our work with children and view every day as an opportunity to see the best that humanity IMG_5677
has to offer. We are delighted when we glimpse the compassion of a child rubbing another's back during story-time or asking another if she needs a hug, and we are joyed at the independence of a three year old setting up a tea party and inviting his friends. Each day is something new and amazing at Olive Branch School, a Montessori Primary School environment serving children ages 2.5-6 years old and their families.

Our school offers a range of experiences that encourage resourcefulness (critical thinking), support the building of self-control, discipline and decision making skills (cognitive and executive functioning) and nurture the emotional and spiritual growth of each child through positive social interactions. Children attending Olive Branch School are a part of a supportive, shared community experience 5 days a week. Our class size is small and responsive with a 7:1 ratio, 14 child maximum. A Montessori education truly gives a child the keys to the world and sets them on the road to loving learning.

Certified In-Home CF502413.

IMG_5021To facilitate learning and consistency for children and staff, all children attend Monday-Friday. Families may choose from 1/2 day 8:30am-12:30pm ($450 monthly), or full day 8:30am-3:30pm ($750) attendance. Our program is year round and we offer optional weekly themed Summer Programming.

Creative, caring nanny looking for Full/Part time Position!

January 02, 2017

Hello and Happy New Year!

My name is Alaina, I am a 29 year old Portland native looking for my next family to Nanny for! My ideal position would be three 10-12 hour days, doesn't matter what days of the week, if the days switch off each week, or if they are consecutive week days off together. I am just hoping to find something around 30-35 hours per week, also open to a nanny share situation. I am a new mom to a 4 month old boy, named Leo. I absolutely love being a mom, he's such a sweet little guy and has been nothing but a joy in our life. My mother has graciously offered to watch Leo 2 days a week, but I would love to be able to bring him one day a week to work. This can be discussed in greater detail of course. I know this may not sound ideal to some families, but I can assure you it would have no negative effect on me being a nanny to your family. I would give equal attention to each child, and I love the thought of my son growing up with other children, and forming lasting friendships. I started my last nanny job in January 2016, which I was with full time until September when I went on maternity leave. The plan was to return to work at the start of January 2017 and bring Leo with me, but things changed with the families work schedule and they can no longer guarantee a set amount of hours anymore, since the mom will be home more often, so here I am!
I live in SW Portland in the Raleigh Hills area, so keeping it within a 20-30 min drive at most would be helpful (especially with this growing Portland traffic!)
A little about me, my work history, and teaching style.

I have grown up in the Portland metro area my whole life, I love Oregon and all if has to offer. Like most Oregonians, I love the lifestyle we are able to have by living here, beautiful day hikes, weekend trips to the Oregon Coast, camping, and trying a new awesome restaurant each weekend. Eating locally and as healthy as possible is very important for me. Which is why staying active, and eating fresh is definitely incorporated as much as possible when I am watching children. I like to have the kids help me cook, get them involved and show them what its like to eat from the garden, daily walks, and exploring all nature has to offer. Rain or shine, I need to go outside everyday! I very much believe a child's imagination is the most important thing to exercise and discover, and no better place to do that then the great outdoors. I grew up in a large family, with my parents, two older sisters, and a younger brother. I now have 4 nieces, and the family keeps growing. I feel very lucky to have them all live close by so Leo can grow up surrounded by his grandparents and cousins.

I have been working with children for the past ten years, from being a full time nanny, preschool teacher, and teacher assistant in the Beaverton School District. Even though all my jobs have been working with children, each job has proved different from the last. I have learned so much in each position, with the different types of teaching styles, parenting styles, ages, sibling behavior, and children with special needs, my passion for being a teacher/caregiver only grows stronger.

Being a Nanny has always been my favorite job of them all. The bond and relationships you form are extremely rewarding and irreplaceable. I have nannied children ranging from 4MO-14years old. As a parent I can only imagine how hard it is to leave your children everyday for work, that’s why as a nanny I make sure the children know they are loved and cared for everyday, I am there for any questions and concerns they have, and am there to teach them and help them grow. I love to stay positive and active. From working in school environments in the past I have taken to implementing some things into my nanny life. Making sure each day has time for reading, crafts, down time, dance/play, and outdoor learning/activities. I know every family is different, some are more structured and scheduled, others may not follow a schedule, with that said I am open to whatever makes the family feel most at ease and comfortable.

As I search for the next family to work with, I am hoping to find something long-term, at least a year+ commitment would be ideal. I want to treat my next job as much as a career as possible, 1 week paid vacation/holiday pay, and a guaranteed amount of hours each pay period. I have a weekly sheet I fill out for the families, which includes activities done throughout the day, food intake, potty/nap schedule, miles driven, expenses used, and hours for the day. It really helps the parents and I keep track in an organized way and it’s seemed to work out really well.

I can imagine trying to find the right Nanny for your family to be a very hard process. I don't blame the family for wanting to maybe have a lengthy hiring process, or wanting to do a trial run to see if you are a right fit before hiring, and to me that makes so much sense. You can't be too sure when you know this person is going to be watching your children. So with that said, I am available for contact through e-mail or phone. If you're interested I can send my resume, which gives in greater detail my childcare experience, I also have great references that are more then willing to chat with you, and we can chat on the phone before meeting to see if we would be a good fit for each other!

I have a 2002 Subaru Outback, which is a very safe and reliable car. I have had my license since I was 16, with an amazing driving record. I recently renewed my First Aid/CPR training and am enrolled in the Criminal Background Check. I am comfortable with pets, and don't mind walking the dog. I am comfortable with meal prep, light housekeeping, and running errands. I don't smoke.

In my last few positions I was getting paid $16 hourly for two children. I am willing to go down to $15 for one child. If its a Nanny share situation I would charge $9 an hour per family.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, I am a very caring, reliable, patient, and open minded person, I look at being a Nanny as a career, and not just a job to have until I find something better. I am very excited to find the next family to work with. Thanks again, and I hope to hear from you!

Little Imprints Preschool in North Portland

One opening available for the 2016-2017 school year.

We are a community based preschool that believes in instilling a love of learning, play, and exploration to the children in our care. Our school is designed with the intent of teaching children to become confident and effective communicators. We achieve this aim by having a low child to teacher ratio, while providing a safe, comfortable environment for the children to practice all the important life skills they will need to prosper.

Our daily routine involves a multitude of authentic, open ended materials, engaging art, nature, and music activities, and healthy organic snacks. We believe that less is more in the preschool environment, and the materials and objects within the school are tailored to expand upon the interests of each and every child. We have a large, fenced in backyard, and frequently explore the neighborhoods and parks surrounding the school. Indoor and outdoor play are equally important, and we go outside each day rain or shine.

We are located near the New Seasons in North Portland (close to the intersection of N Rosa Parks and N Interstate), Little Imprints is a certified, in-home preschool. We offer care Tuesday through Friday, from 8:30 until 3:00. Half days are available from 8:30 until 12:30. Care is available for preschool aged children, between 3 and 5 years old. We follow the Portland Public School schedule for all major holiday and seasonal closings.

4 Openings for January 3, 2017.

Now Accepting applications for 2017-2018 waitlist, for ages 2.5 years -6 years. Children must be self-toileting or working on achievement in pull-ups.

We love our work with children and view every day as an opportunity to see the best that humanity has to offer. We are delighted when we glimpse the compassion of a child rubbing another's back during story-time or asking another if she needs
a hug, and we are joyed at the independence of a three year old setting up a tea party and inviting his friends.

Portland Nanny Looking for FT (Nanny share/my home/your home)

December 01, 2016

Hello! My name is Alaina and I am 28-year-old Portland native, who's hoping to find a 30-35 hour a week nanny position starting in January. I am available M-F, and open to many options! Nanny share, my home, your home, switching off throughout the week. Whatever is easiest for the family can be discussed.

I am a new mom to a soon to be 12 week little boy named Leo. He is the sweetest, most even tempered, curious, happy baby and I feel very lucky to be his mom. I started my last nanny job in January 2016, which I was with full time until September when I went on maternity leave. The plan was to return to work at the start of January 2017 and bring Leo with me, but things changed with the families work schedule and they can no longer guarantee a set amount of hours anymore, since the mom will be home more often.  I am going to miss them, they were a great family and we all got along really well. With that said, I am looking forward to my next nanny adventure!

I have a couple options I am open to, and would be equally thrilled to be apart of.

The first being a nanny share with 2 babies at someone's house. Since I would be bringing Leo with me, I think it would be awesome to have other babies close to his age or even up to 1 year old. I've had friends in this scenario and they loved it and said it worked or great! Plus, Leo doesn't have many friends yet and I'm almost certain he would love some. :)

The second being dropping off 1-2 babies with me. I live in SW Portland, although my place is very cute and perfect for my little family of 3 at the moment, it would sadly be too small to entertain multiple babies, so my parents has graciously offered their home to me. My parents live in Tigard, in the Morning Hill neighborhood. Very close to Summer Lake Park, and the new Progress Ridge developments. They have 5 grandchildren who love visiting because of their warm environment and lots of toys! There would be a designated play-room with cribs, age appropriate toys, and anything else needed for the babies. A clean kitchen for eating and snack time, and an awesome backyard with a new large deck for endless outdoor activities!

For both of these scenarios I would charge $9.00 per child and would need to be guaranteed no less then 27-28 hours per week and not exceeding 35-38 hours. If only one child, pay would need to be increased but for the sake of each family and payment costs, I am really hoping for two children to cut costs for everyone!

If you're interested I can send my resume, and references which gives in greater detail my childcare experience, we can chat on the phone before meeting to see if we would be a good fit for each other!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, I am a very caring, reliable, patient, and open minded person, I look at being a Nanny as a career, and not just a job to have until I find something better. I am very excited to find the next family to work with. Thanks again, and I hope to hear from you!
