My husband and I live in NE Portland (Piedmont area) and have 9-month old boy/girl twins. I have been lucky enough to stay home with our kids full time but am ready to return to work and will need part time childcare in my home beginning in August. We are looking for someone who can work two days a week, preferably tues/wed or wed/thu, eventually increasing to three days a week. 
 
We are an active, affectionate, vegetarian and eco-conscious family. The ideal nanny for us is professional, loving, gentle, and committed to the well-being of our children. If we could, we would stay home with the babies. We are seeking a nanny who becomes a stand-in, rather than a babysitter. Ideally we would love to find someone who has experience with twins - or at least multiple children within the same age range. A Beautiful Day Montessori Announces Openings for Fall 2009

My son’s fabulous preschool, A Beautiful Day Montessori Preschool in NE Portland, has some openings for Fall 2009 for children ages 2 ½ - 6, and I want to help get the word out!

 Mariah Stewart-Hencke, the AMI-trained guide & director, is superb with small people and has created a calm, appealing classroom that houses a wonderful mix of dynamic, intriguing things to do and peaceful, contemplative space. There’s a complete set of Montessori materials & creative supplies, a big outdoor greenspace (they trek outside in just about all weather), organic snacks, and a neat combo of independent and group exploration & discovery. We have been so very happy with and impressed by the high caliber of the guidance, instruction, care, and environment.

 What we love most is how our child (now age 4) has blossomed the past year. I have three openings... one immediate opening!

I have been operating a pre-preschool in my close-in NE Portland home for twenty-two years.  This year, I am graduating three of my students to kindergarten (the class of 2009 marks my one hundredth graduates).

I am looking for a summer camp or other summer childcare for a 7 year old (entering second grade) in NE Portland. Play group for 2-3 year olds...and have your toddler learn some Spanish too.

We're seeking a few toddlers, aged 2-3, to form a play group. I currently have a 2-year old daughter who loves being around other kids and would welcome the opportunity to play with others. This would be a play group where you could drop off your child for 3-4 hours to run errands, have brunch with a friend, spend time with your other kids, or do whatever you please. In the meantime, your child would have the chance to play with others and learn some Spanish. 

We have a wonderful nanny who would facilitate the play group. She is a native Spanish speaker and currently speaks to my daughter in Spanish. She can, however, speak fluent English, so should your child need comforting or help in English, she can easily switch. We have been with this nanny in a nanny-share situation for nearly a year and couldn't be happier. She is terrific with toddlers and has had over 5 years of experience taking care of multiple children at once. She does all sorts of activities with kids and has a terrific knack for dealing with the whims of toddlers. She came to us with the highest recommendations, and we certainly would echo those compliments. 

The play group would be on Monday and/or Wednesday mornings for 3-4 hours (Thursday may also be possible starting mid-June). As for location, we can rotate houses or have it at a designated house if that is preferred by the group. We live in Northeast Portland, so ideally it would be in that part of town. The charge would be $5.50/hour/kid. We could begin as soon as desired.

N/NE PDX Family Nannyshare

Are you looking for some more social interaction for your 18 month-4 year old? Perhaps a little more mama/papa time for yourself? We are a group of mamas located in close-in NE/N Portland that are part of a family nannyshare - It currently runs 4 days a week 9-5 (currently only 9-1 on Mondays....) and kids come either for the a.m. (9-1), p.m. (1-5) or all day. Some come just one 1/2 day a week others come more. You can choose the number of days per week as space allows. There are up to 4 kids at a time total in different families homes. We are organized and have had great success over the past few years keeping our costs down and the social interaction for our kids up....as well as finding a great nanny who gets paid well!

The cost is a super affordable $5/hr per child. We have an amazing nanny who is mellow, fun, creative and is very comfortable and confident with all kinds of little personalities. She is CPR and First Aid certified. The children that come range from 16 months to 4yrs old (average is 3 years). We are looking for some new families to join us. We currently have a couple spaces open in the afternoon (1-5pm) but expect to have more mornings (9am-1pm) available in the summer/fall and would be open to expanding to Monday afternoons and/or Fridays if there is a need. As for my general childrearing philosophy, I tend to pull my beliefs from multiple sources, especially attachment parenting and Montessori. I believe in soothing crying babies and have experience with cloth diapers, feeding with breastmilk, and babywearing. For toddlers and older children, I believe in learning while playing, silliness, and redirection if needed. Although I am flexible, I do believe that children thrive with some consistency and structure.  I think that children (and I) do best to get out of the house daily, even if it's just for a walk around the neighborhood.  I love to go on outings to coffee shops (Urban Grind is my new favorite find to take babies and toddlers), OMSI, the Zoo, story time, baby gym, indoor park, etc.

Availability in NE paygroup/nanny-share, March 2009

Our close in NE playgroup/nanny share had one or two openings available starting in March.  We are three families with 3 year olds who weren't quite ready for preschool because of late in the year birthdays, but we still wanted our little ones to have the socialization and the benefits of preschool activities. So we have a wonderful creative nanny that comes to one of our homes from 8:30-12:30 on Wednesdays and through play and exploration or kiddos get a great learning day and the parents get a morning off. Our nanny has excellent refrences and I have known her as a childcare provider for over 3 years. She is fun and dedicated and the children love her leaps and bounds.  The price for is $20 for the 4 hours. 
 
Some of the activities include...storytime, dancing and music exploration, nature walks, art time, and lots of imaginative play.

Seeking another family & nanny for a nanny share

My husband and I are currently looking for a full-time nanny share (M-F, 7:30 - 5:30) for our 10-week-old daughter, with a desired start date of February 2. Looking for Full-Time In-Home Care

We are looking for full-time in-home care with a licensed provider in NE or North Portland for our 3 year old son.  He is not potty-trained. We are currently using a Center that is excellent, but just isn't quite working for our son. We moved back to Portland 6 months ago after many years living out-of-state and could use help finding a setting that fits our needs.  We are pretty experienced with seeking childcare and have used a nanny and nanny-shared as well as an in-home provider between our two sons.

We currently have to leave our childcare provider due to falling victim to our 'economic crisis'. We would love to find someone to take our son's place (I believe they would need a 2-2.5 year old male to replace our spot); since we are obligated to pay for the next 3 months unless a replacement is found. Childcare available for a happy little friend (infant - preschooler)

I care for a great little group of friends here in my home in inner NE Portland near MLK and Rodney.  I currently have a very small group and am looking to add a couple more personalities into the mix.  I would love to add an infant to the group but would gladly accept ages up to 4 years old.

We love to sing and dance, read books, have puppet shows, do puzzles, art projects, preschool activities and play with all of our toys in our great play-space and baby-room.  We have an organic garden and chickens that the kids get to "help" with in our great big back yard.

I provide healthy home-cooked meals and include many organic foods but we do eat some conventional foods as well.  I provide a loving and comfortable environment and lots of hugs but I have found that when working with a group it isn't feasible to accommodate attachment parenting. 

I was a nanny for many years before becoming a mom myself and I have been providing care here in my home for the past five or so years.  I can provide many loving references.

I am available Monday - Friday 7:30 - 5:30 and charge $35/day.

N & NE PDX Playgroup ages 18-24 mos

A couple of us mamas have started a play group in N and NE Portland and we're looking for a few more kids to participate.  The group is for toddlers aged 18-24 months (with a little wiggle room on either side).  The group will be supervised by a play group nanny, who has a great deal of previous experience working with young children.  The group will consist of a lot of free play, with some story-reading, singing, outdoor play, art, music and other semi-structured activities. 

The group will:

include only 4 children
be 4 hours long
be held on Tuesday & Thursdays (although at this time we only have Thursdays available),

A Beautiful Day Montessori, NE Pdx

I want to RAVE about about son's school, A Beautiful Day Montessori in NE Portland.  My son was the second child to enroll in this brand new school last year.  Unfortunately, enrollment has not increased and I wonder if moms and dads just don't know about this wonderful opportunity that exists for the exemplary education and experience available for their preschoolers (3-6yrs).

Mariah, the owner and AMI guide, has beautifully  transformed the main floor of her home into the most inspiring classroom I've ever stepped into.  It also has huge windows that look out over the backyard where my son enjoys digging up potatoes and picking strawberries while learning botanical names for several of the plants and trees.

I strongly encourage you do check this Montessori preschool out.  It does not matter if you plan on continuing a Montessori education after preschool.  This stage of brain development is such a foundation for the rest of their lives.  I feel that my son will greatly benefit for the years to come from  his time at A Beautiful Day Montessori with Mariah.  He has leaned so much as his natural curiosity of the word has been inspired daily. He tells me, " I think Mariah knows everything, even though she is a human."  I told him he should tell her that :)

My hope is to help like-minded parents on the east side discover this brand new little treasure.  Once word-of-mouth gets out, I think this school will touch the lives of many Portland families.  If you want a school that will help you instill the love of learning in your child, then this could be a great place for your child to spend some quality time in their younger years.

I thought I was getting the ball rolling pretty early...

I'm looking for childcare for my son in about 6 months when he'll be a year old for 3 days a week. I live and work in inner NE Portland so ideally some place not too far out would be great. I've called around and some of the waiting lists are 1-2 years! I've gotten on one that is 9-10 months out (I'm sure I could find backup care for a few months). But I'd like to have more options. I'm looking for something that is somewhat affordable (in my mind that's less than $700 a month) and provides a quality program of course. In-home providers are fine as long as they're state certified and reputable. Does anyone have any recommendations or know of places that will have an opening in about 6 months?

Teacher needed PT for NE Toddler playgroup

A newly formed NE Portland playgroup is looking for a teacher to help with child care 2 mornings a week.  The playgroup will be hosted in one of the mama's homes and there will always be one parent to help with the group.  We are thinking that starting pay would be $18.00 an hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 12:30. NE Play Group for 3 to 4-year-olds

Our fabulous play group teacher, Oriana, is looking to start up another play group for 3 to 4-year-olds.  She is loving, caring, creative and does lots of fun things with the kids.  Our play group is twice a week, each time for 4 hours, and the kids do free play, art, music, reading, outdoor play and lots of other activities together. Each of the 4 families involved pays $20 for the 4-hour play group, and parents don't attend (so free time for you too!).  The group is hosted in parent's homes, but kids bring their own snacks/lunch.  Of course, your group can differ from ours, but that's generally what we've done, and it's worked well.
