Wonderful PT Nanny/Chef Available

Hi, I love being a nanny and working with children.  I'm a Northwest Nannies Institute graduate.  I am a professional nanny with over 15 years of nanny and childcare experience.   I'm also a licensed teacher. I LOVE working with infants and children of all ages.  I'm registered with the Oregon Criminal Registry background check. I'm available to work part time 3 days a week M-W-F plus evenings and weekends. I love working with infants and children of all ages.  Working with children is a true joy for me.  I believe all children deserve excellent, loving care. I have a teaching certificate as an early intervention specialist. This is a teacher that works with children with special needs age 8 and under.  I enjoy working as a nanny much more than as a teacher because I get to work more 1 on 1 with children. I'm also a certified personal chef.  I enjoy cooking delicious meals for a variety of tastes and dietary needs.

The children come first and I only cook if there is time. I enjoy reading to children, doing arts and crafts, music, dramatic play, indoor and outdoor play, sports, homework help and fun project with children.  I do children's laundry and child related household chores. I have worked for 3 years for the same wonderful family.  The children were 1 month, 5 and 7 when I started working for them.  I work every Tu-Thursday with this family.    I'm kind, loving, positive, professional, creative and fun.

If you are interested in my nanny/chef services, please contact me at katie.liz7@yahoo.com or 503-830-0703.  Tell me about your family, children and your needs. Thanks so much.  Katie

Experienced Nanny Available PT

I am a 28 year old nanny and art student. One of my part time childcare positions is ending and I am looking for another great family to begin working with, ideally within the next 2-4 weeks. PT Nanny/Babysitter Currently Available in NE Portland

February 12, 2013

My name is Cole Jon Roy Doig and I’m writing this posting to introduce myself to the Urban Mama’s community and offer up my services as a part time childcare provider here in the Portland area. I have worked with hundreds of children all throughout Portland ever since I moved here four and a half years ago to finish my undergraduate degree. During my last few quarters at school I volunteered as a teacher for the A.K.A. Science program at Sabin Elementary School in N.E. Portland and also helped with their homework-help club whenever needed. At this time I also began working at ChildRoots Center for Young Children. Throughout the years there, I have worked as a classroom aide, chef, primary care provider, all-around handy man and really just about every other role imaginable at a childcare facility! By working at both their main-center and also the satellite schools they have opened in the last two years, I’ve gained extensive experience with a wide age-range and learned the techniques and language necessary to provide developmentally appropriate care to infants, toddlers and preschool kiddos. I have a particular knack for working with toddler aged children. The amount of language development and awe that goes with being a wobler is pretty fun to witness and engage. I’ve also been lucky enough to share my previous experience studying Puppetry at The Evergreen State College where I completed my B.A. and acquired all the prerequisite credits necessary to gain a teaching certification in elementary education. ChildRoots hosts several seasonal community events throughout the year and at the last few Winter-fares I’ve had the pleasure of writing/performing several highly praised and unconventional puppet shows for the children and families at the center. Many families from the center have in fact contacted me asking for me to prepare puppet shows for birthday parties and other events.

Recommending my wonderful nanny for a new family

February 06, 2013

I want to recommend my wonderful nanny, Katie Maddox, for a new position, now that all of my kids are in school and I am home full-time.  Our family has known Katie for 10 years, and she has babysat my three children regularly.  In 2012 she helped me to have the time to finish my PhD dissertation by picking up my kids from school, taking them to their activities, and running errands and doing housework.  Katie is a loving, generous, energetic, and enthusiastic person who adores children and is gifted with all ages.  She is creative and experienced, and is full of ideas and projects that appeal to little ones.  She would be a fabulous nanny for a baby or several young children.  Her email is Katielmaddox@gmail.com.  I will happily speak with you if you contact her and are interesting in hiring her.  Thank you!! PT Nanny in NW Portland

February 02, 2013

Hi there. We are looking for a PT Nanny for our 2 little girls, ages 5 and almost 3. Those with the ability to play dinosaurs and barbies, color, paint nails, and read the same book multiple times are strongly encouraged to apply :) Fine Print: We are also looking for someone who is mature, responsible, has previous childcare experience with similar ages, safe car and clean driving record, and CPR certified.

We are a professional couple and I work as a graphic designer on a freelance basis. Hours we definitely need are: Wed afternoons (12:45-4) and Fri mornings (9:30-1:30). If you have additional availability, that would be great as I frequently have a need for more hours as my workload fluctuates.

We live just up the hill from the NW 23rd area, right next to a great community center with a large park, playground and preschool. Our girls attend school there and you will need to pickup (on foot) on one day. Our girls also love to go to the zoo, children's museum, etc.

We are also looking for someone who is comfortable pitching in around the house (unloading dishwasher, folding clothes) as time allows. And we have a very slow, but sweet 13 year old lab who occassionaly likes to walk across the street to the park with the girls.

Please contact me if you might be interested.

Thanks so much!

Best way to find infant care options in/near SE?

January 27, 2013

Hi UrbanMamas!

We moved to Portland recently for my husband's job, and there must be something in the water, because we're already expecting our first child - a baby boy - in June 2013!

As per instructions from almost everyone I know, we're already starting to look into infant care options for when I go back to work full time in September 2013.  We've gotten a few recommendations from my still measly social networks here but mainly we're relying on internet research which seems to be turning up the same few options: ChildRoots, Creative Minds, Grandma's Place, Belmont Academy, CCLC, the OHSU CCLC (we're looking in/near SE).  Or find a nanny.

I figure this can't be all that's out there or 90% of the babies in SE Portland wouldn't have a place to go.  My prenatal yoga instructor says many places just don't have websites.  Does anyone have ideas - specific places or lists of places?  A nanny or nanny share would also be an option.  I work from home and have a fairly flexible schedule, so I don't necessarily need a full-time, 9-6 deal.  On the other hand I've been told not to expect to get any work done if I'm home with the baby, even if there's a nanny there too.  And I do travel for work from time to time, and my husband has VERY long and VERY inflexible hours (he's a resident at OHSU).

Would love to hear from anyone with experience or ideas!  Places you or your friends have sent your babies, lists you've received, other networks you think I should tap into?  Mamas who work from home, any creative ways you've made it work?  Nanny+coworking space?  Would love to hear any and all input!

Thanks SO much,

Beth Stucky (bethstucky1@gmail.com) - that's a number 1 in my email address

Nanny Share in Sellwood for Toddler-age; full or part-time.

January 20, 2013

We have a wonderful nanny for our 21 month old. She is kind, caring, interactive, playful, and professional--she even went to NW Nannies Institute so has professional training and her first aid and cpr certifications. She has been working with our family since Spring 2012 and we are extremely happy with her.  She has experience caring for multiples at both our home and elsewhere.

We are now looking to find a family to "nanny share" with--ideally we'll find a family with a child close in age to 20 months so the kids can become playmates and learn from one another.

The schedule: Currently our nanny works Tuesday through Friday from 8:45 AM to 4:45 PM. We are flexible on hours though and if you need care on Monday, the nanny is availale but it just wouldn't be a nanny share day (since we have Grandparents doing care that day). We are open to full time or part-time nanny share.

The location:  Our preference is to have the nanny share happen at our home because that is what works best for our schedules and the fact that we are a one-car family, but we would be open to discussing other options if someone lived close to us.  We are located on SE 15th a few blocks south of Tacoma--walkable to Sellwood Park, the Community Center, the library, New Seasons and it is a great place for the kids to have some activities outside of the house regularly without having to drive somewhere.

We have a separate room in the house where your child can sleep in a pack and play or in a crib which we could provide if it is regularly at our house.

When nanny share is at our house, we are happy to provide 100% vegan, healthy, mostly organic meals for both kiddos.

The rate: $8/hour per family.  (We do also pay taxes on top of this which we can help you with)

About us: We have our sweet 21 month old girl, 3 rescue chickens and a 60 lb dog named Meg who mostly keeps to herself. We make efforts to be green--from eating a vegan diet to using cloth diapers and natural products. My husband is a teacher and I work in renewable energy.

Please get in touch if you are interested in discussing more! amandamortlock [@] gmail.com.

Seeking a part-time nanny in SE Portland

We are a working couple seeking a nanny who is available to help care for our 2 children in our home in SE Portland. We need someone who is available regularly on Mondays from 2-6, and occasionally in the evenings. I work from home, as a freelance editor and writer, and my husband is the office manager of a CPA firm downtown.

Our son, Teddy, is nearly 2 years old. He consistently naps from 1:30-3:30, sometimes later. Our daughter, Elliot, is 2.5 months old and does not yet have a consistent nap schedule, though she does sleep for some portion of the afternoon. We need someone who would be comfortable watching both kids if they are both awake, and who is willing to help out with light housework (ironing, dishes, vacuuming and dusting, some dinner prep, etc) if they are both sleeping. The ideal candidate will have experience with both infants and toddlers, and knowledge (or the willingness to learn) baby sign language. We are looking for someone who can start by mid-February or sooner, and commit to the position through mid-July.

We live within walking distance of the Mt. Scott Community Center, the Woodstock Elementary playground, and the Woodstock public library.

If you are interested, please send us an email detailing your experience and your hourly rate. A background check and at least 3 professional references will be required.

Scott-Arleta neighborhood in SE Portland approximately one mile south of Kate and Amy.  Karl works Monday through Friday for a computer consulting firm and Michelle works part-time for an environmental non-profit.  We are hard working, family-oriented professionals. We are adventurous and enjoy seeking new and unique experiences.  We value thought-provoking conversation, healthy diets, and quality time spent outdoors.  We have one small, affectionate dog.

GREAT NANNY, JUST FOR YOU!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Jillian M. Currently I am looking for a new position as a Nanny. I was involved in a Nanny-share for almost the duration of the year but as the contract term ended and the children turned 1 they were placed in Montessori. I am comfortable doing either another nanny-share, or working for one family. I am comfortable working with up to 3 infants, depending on their ages, 4 toddlers, or 5 children in total but this would really depend on the overall dynamic of the situation. I am also comfortable doing care in your home, or mine. Ideally the position would provide at least 36 hours a week, but this is also flexable as I explore my options.

Here's a little information about me. I have an immense amount of experience with children. I started my babysitting career at 12 years old, after I received my Oregon babysitters training, and CPR certification. Since then, I have had experience in taking care of about 25 different children, usually two or more at a time (five max), in in-home settings. My experience with children ranges from newborns to 13-year-olds. About half of my clientele has been parents of children diagnosed with Autism. I have also worked and volunteered with a school that caters to meeting the needs of children diagnosed with Autism . My tasks at the school included building a summer reading program for some of the more advanced students. I directed the students during "signing times" videos (videos that teach the children sign language). I did teacher aide duties in the classrooms working extensively with the pre-schoolers, and in the occupational therapy room. In addition to this experience, I was also a camp counselor in high-school at Camp Howard outdoor school for 2 seasons.

I love to do activities with children. I am not the type of care provider who will sit children in front of the TV and do my own thing. Just to be clear, I rather children have no screen time during my time with them. I prefer for children to have fun. If the parent permits, I like to take them on outings to the park, or maybe a day to the zoo, children's museum, library, or swimming pool depending on the child's interest. I love doing art projects, or fun cooking activities, playing board games, and will even happily partake in dress up or tea parties. As well as making sure the children enjoy the time we spend together, I firmly believe in education. I like to come up with developmentally appropriate activities that stimulate the intellectual growth of each child. For school aged children I come in great handy for help with homework.

I am a student and am working towards a degree in early childhood education. I take courses through the local community college's online program, when I transfer next year I will continue primarily with online education. I am familiar with many learning/parenting styles includingMontessori, Waldorf, Attachment Parenting, and Positive Redirection. What I am unfamiliar with, I am willing to learn. My time spent with your children is based on your needs, their needs, and your parenting beliefs. I am very flexiable when it comes to this as I understand it is your child and I enjoy learning new styles.

I have a license, car insurance, and a car for transporting needs. In addition, I know basic Spanish, and am furthering my skills incase you are interested in your child learning a second language.

I would ideally like a position that offers at least a 1 year contract.

Best,
Jillian

PT Nanny Needed in NE

January 02, 2013

Happy New Year!  Our family needs a nanny starting the last week in January.  We have 2 daughters, one that just turned 2 and another that will be 3 months when the position starts and I return to work.  The hours are: 30 Hours per week, 10 hours per day, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 7:30 am - 5:30 pm.  Additional hours also available a few times a month.  We have a lovable dog, a fun house & yard for playtime, and we live right near Fernhill Park.  We're looking for someone with experience working with 2 kids of these ages, or someone who has had their own children and knows what it's like to multi-task and perform the juggling act.  Light housework expected but also greatly appreciated.  We'd prefer someone who doesn't smoke, doesn't wear perfumes, and doesn't have a cat at home-  my husband is very allergic.   If you're interested, please contact me!  Thanks!

Nanny Share in Sellwood--full or part-time for toddler-age

December 30, 2012

We have a wonderful nanny for our 20 month old.

About us: We have our sweet 20 month old girl, 4 rescue chickens and a 60 lb dog named Meg who mostly keeps to herself. We make efforts to be green--from eating a vegan diet to using cloth diapers and natural products. My husband is a teacher and I work in renewable energy.

Please get in touch if you are interested in discussing more! amandamortlock [@] gmail.com.

N Portland Family Seeks Nanny for PT Work or Share

Hello! We are looking for a warmhearted nanny to help care for our 3-month son starting in January.  Hours would be 8am-5pm; initially, we would need 2-3 days/week, moving up to 4 days/week in February and onwards.

We are looking for someone with experience - particularly caring for infants - who enjoys spending time outside, making art and music, and approaches childcare with humor and skill.

If this sounds like you, please share your resume, any references, and rates.

We've also had excellent experience with nanny shares in the past - our other son is 2.5 years - and would welcome contact from families in the neighborhood who employ nannies and are interested in sharing.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Two families in inner SE Portland seek a nanny to share

December 04, 2012

We are the parents of two sweet and happy little girls – each will be 6 months old when you start.  We are looking for someone who can help our babies grow and thrive in a happy, stable environment.  Our girls are kind, loving, energetic, and affable children. Since we live in a great area of Portland, we hope our nanny will help us expose them to the many activities available in our neighborhood as well as in other areas of the city.

Our houses are located one block away from one another and we will be switching childcare locations every other week. We will need care 3.5/4 days a week (approximately 8am-5:30pm) and rather than looking to pay an hourly rate, we are offering a flat weekly rate of $425 per week. We are also looking for a one year commitment starting in early January 2013.

Responsibilities: Your primary and most important responsibility will be the safety and well being of the children during the hours that we are away from home. During the day, we’d like you to provide a variety of activities to develop the children including reading to them, playing with them and their toys, arranging some classes for them (when they get a bit older), etc. Our expectation is that no television will be watched during the day. Weather permitting; we also would like to see the children have the opportunity to get outside at least once per day, unless of course they are sick.  Possible places to visit are nearby parks and the local library (as they get older and can attend reading groups).

Qualifications: We are looking for someone who has at least 1-3 years experience working with infants aged 6 months+ and does not smoke.  Some early childhood education is also preferred, but not necessary for the right fit. We are very much looking to find an enriching, long-term childcare experience for our daughters and welcome nannies looking help to contact us.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Evening/Afternoon Childcare Needed

I am looking for evening/afternoon/weekend/holiday childcare for my 9 month old daughter. Both myself and her father work in the service industry. Hours and days would vary, but we can almost guarantee Fridays and Saturdays are a given. Usually anywhere from 2pm-9pm. Pay is highly negotiable based on experience and qualifications. We live in Beaverton, but the location is also negotiable. (Your house or mine)

Please email me with questions or to set up a meeting!
Thanks!

Seeking Part-time Nanny

We are seeking a part-time nanny for our 13 month old daughter three days per week - Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays - from 8am - 4pm.  Our 8 year old son also returns home from school just before we are able to get home from work, so we need someone who is willing to take the short walk to the bus stop to meet him at 3:30 for pick up.  Additionally, we are currently expecting another child in April, so the right person would need to feel comfortable caring for our daughter and the infant (they will be about 2 years and 4 months, respectively) after our maternity/family leave has ended (that would likely be April - August).

Our daughter is good spirited, playful, and mostly very happy (with the exception of the occasional teething times, of course).  We have been doing sign-language with her since she was 5 months old, and she has taken to communicating her needs pretty well with some of her signs, as well as using her signs for play time.  That said, we'd love someone who is knowledgable of signing to continue to work on this skill with her when we're away.

Seeking a fun loving organized Nanny

October 25, 2012

Hi, we are a family who has one 6 month old son.  We live North of Mount Tabor on the border of NE Portland.  We are looking for a nanny who can work 8:30 to 2pm for child care in our home Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (on a rare occasion we would need 8am).  We are hoping to find a nanny who can commit to this schedule for at least one year so that our son has consistency and can build a fulfilling relationship with you.  Our son has been characterized as a sweetie.  Our perfect nanny would be open to working with us as we discover our parenting preferences, helpful maintaining healthy sleep nap schedule, helpful with mealtime, and would be ok with some cleaning during infant naps (he can sleep for a couple of hours in morning nap time).  We would love a nanny who truly loves infants and has experience caring for them.  If you are interested please send me an email about yourself with some references.  We are flexible with the start date by a few weeks but definitely need someone by December 1st.

We could be open to a Nanny Share if we found the right fit :)

Thanks,

Kari

Our wonderful nanny is looking for a new family – N, NE, NW, SE PDX

October 20, 2012

Our wonderful nanny Alisa is looking for a new family. With the new baby on the way and my husband travelling for work, we came to heartbreaking decision that live-in nanny would better fit our needs. The problem is, we love our nanny, and we don’t want her to go! So we are on a mission to find new perfect family for her.

Alisa has been with us for the past year, taking care of our finicky son Eydan. She started with us when Eydan was 6 months old and would not sleep for longer than half an hour. Through this year, she was with us with LO getting constantly sick, fussy, teething – you name it – and she never lost her patience. She has been calm, organized presence and she quickly became part of the family.

Alisa is always smiling, on time and imaginative with Eydan’s activities. She has lots of childcare experience and natural love for kids. If you would like any additional information, please feel free to contact us and we will be glad to answer any questions - milka_vevoda@yahoo.com. We will be sure to forward any information to her.  She is flexible with her schedule and available as of week of October 22nd in N, NE, NW, SE neighborhood. Alisa has reliable transportation, but is unable to put a carseat in her car. It has never been a problem for us, but if you need someone with car with carseat, she may not be your gal. We highly recommend her and know that her new family will be very happy with her.

Thank you!

Looking for Nanny or Nanny Share!

October 18, 2012

We are looking for a nanny or nanny share 2-3 days a week starting in February for our 3 year old and our little one that is due in early December.

Our son is very sweet and compassionate. He loves going to the park or for walks, trips to OMSI or the Zoo, or just staying inside and playing, reading, or helping cook treats:) We also have an OMSI and Zoo membership. He is potty trained during the day, but we are still working at it during nap/bedtime. We can’t wait to meet our second little guy and are looking for someone who will be comfortable and caring with a 3 year old and a 2 month old, as well as any other children if we end up in a nanny share situation. It would be great to find another family with a child similar age to our 3 year old, so they could have lots of play time during those moments where the nanny would need to be with our infant.

Seeking Affordable Nanny Share in SE Portland

October 12, 2012

We are looking for a family seeking a nanny-share situation. We have an infant who is currently 3 months old and will be looking for childcare 4 days a week beginning in December (although timing is a bit flexible). Ideally we would like to share the cost of a nanny with another family with 1 or 2 children.

We live close-in Southeast and hope to find a family within a few miles. We are a laid back family that isn’t necessarily employing any style of parenting per se – only doing the best we can to nurture a happy and healthy little girl. We are very much looking forward to finding an enriching, long-term childcare experience for our daughter and welcome other families looking to do that same to contact us.
