I'm looking for a little one to join myself and my baby (due in March) in our home come June. We are located on NE 68th and Stanton. I'm looking for a baby who will be between 3-8mths in June. I'm offering care in my home 4 days a week (flexible days) between the hours of 7:30am an 5:30pm. I'm willing to share care with more than one family (i.e. two families looking for part time care) but never having more than 2 babies, including my own, at one time. My rates are somewhat negotiable.

I completed both Birth and Postpartum Doula trainings through DONA www.dona.org/, regularly attend continuing education classes on early childhood education, and have impeccable references. 

My childcare approach incorporates both Attachment Parenting and Montessori methodology. I believe all human beings need to first develop a sense of trust in the person caring for them in order to feel safe and secure in their environment. I am familiar with and very comfortable with baby wearing. I am also tuned into when a baby is ready for some independent time and will have a specially prepared space for them to explore. I believe in providing all children with a thoughtfully prepared environment where they are free to explore and learn according to their individual interests with the gentle support of an adult close by. I carefully observe children in my care and will change out materials and introduce new activities according to their development. I am familiar with Elimination Communication, use cloth diapers/underwear, and provide children with the opportunity for independence in toileting. I provide homemade and mostly organic foods, including homemade baby food, and invite the children to participate in food preparation. I believe in providing time outside on a regular basis, even if just for a brief period of time on the coldest of days. I also believe in being silly and playful with the children, playing music, creating art, and participating in imaginary play.

On a personal note: I'm an avid gardener, own chickens, enjoy knitting, quilting, hiking, biking, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Our family consists of myself, our soon to be little one, my partner, his nearly 17 year old brother, and a very friendly cat.

While I strive hard to learn about each child's comfort level, I also want to learn about their development and interests to keep them interested and engaged as well as comfortable and curious. I think it also helps the child to boost their confidence of having their needs met when the caregiver understands what those needs are.

I believe in respecting the child from birth as a whole and cuing into their needs right away. This will include using sign language from a very young age, always talking respectful to the child and parents, letting children know what's next and letting children do things for themselves.

We are thinking about enrolling our 3 year old at the Concordia Montessori Preschool (NE 32nd Place) in the fall.   We are looking for some feedback on the school.  We visited their open house and got a favorable first impression.  We are familiar with the Montessori method but would like to get some feedback from parents who currently have or had their children enrolled.  Thank you very much!

Experienced childcare provider looking for a family to work with. I recently finished a short-term position in SE Portland and would love to find a part or full-time position. I have multiple years of experience (total of 10 years childcare experience) working with children ages 0-8. Great families for you to contact that can attest to my ability to be on-time and engaging with children of any age.

I am well-versed in Montessori learning style as well as a bit of knowledge in attachment parenting. Comfortable with cloth diapers (assisting with diaper laundry and children's laundry as well) and feeding expressed milk as well. I'm flexible, easy-going and a great communicator. I am happy to provide a daily rundown of what we did, etc.

I'm cpr/first aid certified, have taken the RRCAN class, am in the process of completing my food handlers certification, and am enrolled in Oregon Criminal History Registry # (for working in a childcare center). Non-smoker, valid license/insurance and reliable vehicle for transportation (Plymoth Neon, seats 5 total).

Engaging and active; I do multiple activities with children from sensory play (shaving cream, paint, play dough, etc.) to arts and crafts with older children. Familiar with assisting in school-aged learning, assisting with writing/reading, spelling, abc's, 123's, colors, shapes, etc. Primary focus working with children ages 0-6.

I can and will take your children on outings if you would like, am able to assist with errand running/shopping if necessary as well as light household chores (dishes unloaded or loaded, light sweeping, child laundry/room cleanup, etc.). I love going to the park even if it's wet, and love to puddle jump!

Available for any weekly schedule, weekends as well.

Hello.  I am providing care just across the river in Vancouver.  I run an in-home child care with a very small group of children.

 “The e nvironment must be rich in motives which lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct his own experiences.” -Maria Montessori

Children benefit from being able to explore the environment around them inside and outside.  This includes having materials available for them to learn about, touch, explore and for it to be safe to do so.  I believe in making materials for the children to use from ordinary items at home.  This can include anything you might find in the recycle bin: bottle caps, boxes, paper, toilet paper rolls, jars etc.  While outside children should be free to learn about plants/trees, watch animals and insects and run free. This can be done by taking nature walks, exploring the backyard or simply bringing in items from nature to use for projects or simply to observe.  We also do bike riding, digging in the sand box and drawing with chalk.

There are many reasons why parents might need to find a provider to care for their children.  I provide a safe environment in my home with a loving and nurturing caregiver who is very patient and understanding.  I believe in respecting the child as a whole and this will include how I talk and interact with them.  For example letting children learn to feed themselves, pouring milk or juice, answering questions the child might have or just simply giving the child encouragement when trying to accomplish a goal. 

I also offer respite care and was a former respite care worker with the State of Washington for families that have children with special needs.  I have experience working with children with: Autism, Down's Syndrome, ADHD/ADD, blind, deaf, non-walking/cerebral palsy, Sensory Integration, drug addiction and children that need more social interaction in general.  I also have training in several different philosophies including: Montessori, RIE and Reggio.  I try and incorporate the children's art work into our environment along with pictures of the children in play.

We recently learned that Maria's place preschool, affiliated with Montessori of Alameda, has opened up a new location in our neighborhood (26 NE Morris Street, in Eliot neighborhood near Emanuel Hospital, across from Dawson Park.) It is an ideal location for us but at the same time we have heard negative feedback from friends about their Prescott location (located in the charter Ivy School elementary.)

Our friends enrolled their daughter in the preschool at Prescott during 2010 - they say there was significant teacher turnover in the few months she was there as well as general disorganization and lack of leadership. This led them to switch to a new Montessori preschool.

Portland Language Art (PLA) is a new child care facility in NW Portland. It is located off Cornel Rd and NW 102nd Ave, cross street from Cedar Mill Elementary School, just outside of Forest Heights. PLA owner/operator Lillian Sun has a child care license and will open Jan 2, 2012. Lillian is a loving and caring mom, who has two boys (4 and 6). More than three years ago, when Lillian was frustrated by finding her older son a good quality preschool, she started to have this idea of having her own child care/preschool. In past three years, Lillian has visited many preschool programs, attended early childhood workshops, and done research on preschool education. The result is Portland Language Art, a new child care/preschool facility that provides children an opportunity to learn a foreign language while he/she plays in a clean, healthy, safe and creative  environment that supports learning and creativity. PLAis planning to provide multiple foreign languages in future (which helps brain development and  allows the child to develop an interest in learning another langauage). For the time being, as Lillian is native Mandarin speaker, she will provide Mandarin teaching. In doing her research on preschool teaching methods, Lillian was highly influenced by the Montessori and Reggio Emilia approaches. She has designed a program that will be Montessori based but Reggio inspired --- mixed age group, each child has own curriculum that allows the child to progress at his/her own pace, but will utilized more visual arts and music which enhance  creativity.

Previously background checked through DHS for 3 years, open to having background check run as well as having two through reputable childcare sites (sittercity.com and care.com). Non-smoker, valid license/insurance and reliable vehicle for transportation (5 seat car, 2 car seats or boosters and room for one older child. I may possibly be able to squeeze 2 car seats and 1 booster in back, depending on width!)

Engaging and active; I do multiple activities with children from sensory play (shaving cream, paint, play dough, etc.) to arts and crafts with older children. Familiar with assisting in school-aged learning, assisting with writing/reading, spelling, abc's, 123's, colors, shapes, etc. Primary focus working with children ages 0-6.

I can and will take your children on outings if you would like, am able to assist with errand running/shopping if necessary as well as light household chores (dishes unloaded or loaded, light sweeping, child laundry/room cleanup, etc.). I love going to the park even if it's wet, and love to puddle jump! For outings I do ask you provide the payment for admission fees, etc. 

Available Mon-Fri any time. I do offer weekend sitting but usually reserve it for date-night occasional sitting for families.

The Earth Tortoise School is a small Infant and Toddler program nestled in a quiet cul-de-sac of East Portland and is run by two long time Montessori teachers who had a vision for a classroom in a cozy home-like setting with a close-knit community of children, teachers, and parents. Portland Language Art (PLA) is a new child care facility in NW Portland. It is located off Cornel Rd and NW 102nd Ave, cross street from Cedar Mill Elementary School, just outside of Forest Heights. PLA owner/operator Lillian Sun just received her child care license and will open Jan 2, 2012 (can take child sooner if you need). Lillian is a loving and caring mom, who has two boys (4 and 6). More than three years ago, when Lillian was frustrated by finding her older son a good quality preschool, she started to have this idea of having her own child care/preschool. In past three years, Lillian has visited many preschool programs, attended early childhood workshops, and done research on preschool education. The result is Portland Language Art, a new child care/preschool facility that provides children an opportunity to pick up a foreign language while he/she plays in a clean, healthy, safe and purposely prepared environment that supports learning and creativity. PLA does plan to provide multiple foreign languages in future (which helps brain development and prepare child for global market). For the time being, since Lillian is native Mandarin speaker herself, she will provide Mandarin to children. In doing her research on preschool teaching methods, Lillian was highly influenced by Montessori and Reggio Emilia approach. Lillian has designed in her mind that her program will be a Montessori based but Reggio inspired preschool program --- mixed age group, each child has own curriculum that allows child progress at own pace, but will utilized more visual arts and music which helps creativity.

Hello! 

Are you a parent interested in having your own experienced Montessori teacher for your child? I am an experienced Montessori teacher trained at The Montessori Institute of Minnesota, with a Masters degree in Education and Child Development from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland. Before this I was most recently a teacher at a local Montessori elementary school, and prior to that taught at the Montessori Children's Community in the Dominican Republic. I also have over four years experience as a nanny from birth to age four, and have over ten years experience working with children between the ages of birth to age 12. I have reliable transportation and am willing to work throughout the Portland metro area.

What I do goes beyond child care. I create and teach age-appropriate Montessori activities (if desired by parents) and enjoy many teachable moments as they arise. My method is more akin to in-home preschool/ elementary school with a large dose of silliness and fun. I love assisting children in their own discoveries and activities, such as art, cooking, gardening/plant care, flower arranging, the Spanish language, and much much more depending on the needs and interests of each unique child. 

Should you be interested, I am also offering an additional service wherein I can create an age-appropriate Montessori environment in your home, which maximizes your child's independence and fosters opportunities for learning. This can be accomplished on almost any budget. 

I am infant/child CPR and first-aid certified and bilingual (Spanish), and am currently seeking full time work. I am also willing to do some evening/weekend work.
