Green Tulip Peace & Nature School Fall 2017 Open House!!

June 26, 2017

 ~ Portland's Only Free~Flowing School!

Who We Are:
The Green Tulip Peace and Nature School believes that children need independence and autonomy. We know that preschoolers are capable of making decisions that will impact how they learn and approach education in the future. We are a school that focuses less on academic achievements and more on whole self-development. We understand that nature and the outdoors are essential components to a happy, fulfilling childhood and are the foundation for self-awareness and self-esteem. We have seen first-hand the benefits of our work and have had great success in transforming how our children experience learning. The free flow environment has proven extremely effective in reducing stress and anxiety in children, especially children who fall on the Autism spectrum, struggle with social or general Anxiety, and children with ADHD.

Our indoor/outdoor classrooms are carefully designed to provide a peaceful and safe learning space which allows the children freedom to explore knowing that their needs will be met. By doing so, our environment transforms to one less about classroom management and more about facilitating ideas and fostering creativity. It is a form play therapy that allows the children to learn at their own pace and work through challenges naturally, and over the years we’ve received numerous referrals by occupational therapists who saw the benefits of our work.
Our hope is to build connections, encourage awareness, and model acceptance.

We look forward to many happy years of working together and watching our children grow.

Philosophy & Approach:
Holistic education is based on the premise that each person finds identity, meaning, and purpose in life through connections to the community, to the natural world, and to spiritual values such as compassion and peace. Holistic education aims to call forth from people an intrinsic reverence for life and a passionate love of learning. This is done, not through an academic “curriculum” that condenses the world into instructional packages, but through direct engagement with the environment. Holistic education nurtures a sense of wonder.

What your child will experience at the Green Tulip:
The natural world as their classroom. Our outdoor classroom is set to accommodate most weather so children can be free to move about and learn in the environment the meets their needs. The outdoors is always accessible for learning, exploring, playing, or tending to our plants and animals.

An outdoor classroom full of opportunities to learn including but not limited to an outdoor art station, library, sandbox, fairy garden, chicken coop, a dig pit, garden, climbing structures and more!

A positive happy environment where curiosity is encouraged and nurtured.

We naturally will introduce your child to delicious and nutritious foods. We serve organic, locally grown and sometimes even fruits and vegetables we grew ourselves. We believe that CLEAN preservative-free food is an essential for wellness, and cook from scratch whenever possible.

Life Skills- Cooperation, relationship building, and working through emotions.

 A Sense of  Community

Independent and Free Play

A Culture of  Peace; We will model and discuss peace often and will work very hard to spread it around.

Our goal is to create an environment that intrigues but does not overwhelm or over-stimulate the children. We offer an environment that is safe, healthy, comforting and free from chemicals.

For more information or to RSVP to our open house, please email us at Greentulippreschool@gmail.com or visit our website at www.greentulipschool.com

Childcare Openings

June 06, 2017

Hi all! My name is Charlene Adams and I'm an in home childcare provider in North Portland. I'm located between Morgan St. and Buffalo St. I've been doing childcare out of my home for about 8 years now, but before this, I was a childcare teacher at Legacy Emanuel's Childcare center. I worked there for a little over 21 years, but after they closed down due to lack of funding, I was forced to find another job. Inhome childcare has been a perfect fit! I'm a licensed childcare provider and I have my food handler's card, my recognizing child abuse certification, CPR, first aid, and an approved background check. In my care, we have a set schedule which consists of sign language lessons, learning their ABC's and numbers, story time, and a daily walk (if the weather is nice). Meals are provided. My hours are 7:30 am - 5:30 pm Monday -Friday. Currently, I have 5 full time children (ages 4 months, 7 months, 2 years, a 2 and a half year old, and a 3 year old). I like to keep my group small by not going over 6 kids. I have 3 openings for ages 2 and up. If you'd like more information, you can shoot me an email at adamscharlene1965@yahoo.com OR you can give me a call at (503) 891-6838. Thanks! I hope to hear from you!

ALSO, I’ll be having openings for ages 2 and up over the summer months(June-September).

Willow Tree Preschool enrolling for fall 2017

May 15, 2017

May 6 2015 031 - Copy
The Willow Tree Preschool is in its 12th year as a community of learners; we are an eclectic program influenced by the progressive early childhood programs of Reggio Emilia, Italy developed with over 20 years of experience in early childhood education. We share our gratitude for nature, love of the arts and deep respect for playful inquiry in a multitude of ways. Willow Tree is in a warm beautiful home environment, that has been created to meet the needs of the young child. Children are encouraged to move and learn at their own pace, inviting them to explore and build meaning through their experiences. It is through playful exploration that real learning happens, creative thinking evolves, problem solving develops, and true connection and meaning is made.

Weekly visits from the yoga and music specialist promote further exploration, enhancing our curriculum.

The preschool hours are from 9 am to 1 pm for children 3 to 5 years of age.

We would love to meet you and your child, contact the director to set up a tour kim@willowtreepreschool.com

Join me in creating a playschool for 2-3 year olds!

March 06, 2017

Cyndi Perczek is a creative play specialist who leads co-op preschools for 2-4 year olds. For the past 11 years, she's provided out-of-the box education that allows her and other families the freedom to create early childhood experiences that are both intimate and adventurous. With a BA in theatre and an MS in education, she combines the two to make stories and make- believe the driving force of her curriculum. Interactive storytelling keeps the class on their feet by acting every moment with their voice and body. Cyndi has worked with organizations like Story Pirates, Music Together, Brooklyn Beanstalk, and Spellbound Theatre as a teaching artist and has worked at Montessori schools, daycares, and mommy and me classes as a Spanish teacher. During the summers she leads a detective camp for 5-8 year olds that solve mysteries by finding hidden clues and letters in the outdoors. She is moving to Portland in July and her Brooklyn co-op community is happy to give recommendations and tell you about their experiences with Cyndi.

Fridays 9-2: Nanny share with 4.5 year old girl in North Portland.

February 21, 2017

We'd love to find another child to share our nanny with our daughter on Fridays, on her day off preschool, before they go to pick up our older daughter at school. A girl around her age would be ideal. Our daughter is starting kindergarten in the fall, loves art, dancing, dressing up.  Would be $9/hour for each of us.  9-2, or another period between 8:30 and 2:30 could work as well. Would be at our home in Arbor Lodge (and nearby parks etc.), or possibly at yours if nearby. Let me know if you are interested and we can see if it's a fit. Laura @ 310-736-5359

Flexible Nannies; on Demand and Highly Vetted!

February 20, 2017

Portland-nanny-logo

Hi UrbanMamas!

I started an on-call nanny agency a few months ago, Portland Nanny. We specialize in emergency, back-up and intermittent childcare needs. I started this company because I am a stay at home mom who needed quality care irregularly and had trouble finding QUALITY care exactly when I needed it. So, I started Portland Nanny.

Child home sick from school? Regular childcare fell through? Need a date night sitter? That is where we can help! We do it all. I essentially have 3-5 nannies on call at all times.

ALL of our nannies are EXCEPTIONAL. I would trust them all with my children, and do! They are thoroughly background checked, infant and child CPR trained, have years of experience in childcare (with references to back up that they were exceptional!), and are seriously just awesome.

Let us help you when life happens! Everyone deserves quality childcare, no matter how last minute or how infrequently you need it!

Childcare Openings

February 09, 2017

Hi all! My name is Charlene Adams and I'm an in home childcare provider in North Portland. I'm located between Morgan St and Buffalo St. I've been doing childcare out of my home for about 8 years now, but before this, I was a childcare teacher at Legacy Emanuel's Childcare center. I worked there for a little over 21 years, but after they closed down due to lack of funding, I was forced to find another job. In home childcare has been a perfect fit! Currently, I have two full time children (age 2 and 4 months). I like to keep my group small by not going over 6 kids. I have one opening for an infant and 3 openings for other ages (up to age 3). If you'd like more information, you can shoot me an email at adamscharlene1965@yahoo.com OR you can give me a call at (503) 891-6838. Thanks! I hope to hear from you!

SAHM hoping to watch 1-2 babies in cozy/kid friendly home!

February 08, 2017

Hi Everyone!

My name is Alaina, I am a 29 year old Portland native, looking to help out a couple families in need. I have posted on here before, and I think this time I have finally figured out what will work best, and am very excited about the future as a nanny and mom! I have a 5 month old named Leo, he is such a happy sweet little guy, and being his mom has been my favorite job yet! With that said, its time for me to get back to work after these 5 months of quality time and add a couple more babies into the mix! My ideal situation is to watch one to two babies in my home.

ABOUT ME.

I have been working with children for the past ten years, from being a full time nanny, preschool teacher, and teacher assistant in the Beaverton School District. Even though all my jobs have been working with children, each job has proved different from the last. I have learned so much in each position, with the different types of teaching styles, parenting styles, ages, sibling behavior, and children with special needs, my passion for being a teacher/caregiver only grows stronger. I have 10+ years experience with multiples, every single full time nanny job I have had in the past has been with 2+ children at a time, when I worked in the daycare it was a 4-1 ratio, of ages 3mon-1 year. I love to stay active with the children I care for, from going to the zoo, children museum, nature walks, cooking parties, library, and silly dance times throughout day, I am always trying to stay energetic and engaged. I am hands on, and interactive, but also respect the Montessori teachings and think its important children know how to play and use their imaginations on their own at times also.  A little glimpse into my day as a nanny watching your child would be something like this.

MORNING: Warm welcome! Breakfast (if needed) followed by floor time (i.e..tummy time, crawling, sitting up, sharing toys, and books) I have a johnny jump up, bumbo, walkers, and play mats to keep us active. This will be a time to interact with one another, sing songs (a record player with lots of fun music, Harry Belafonte seems to be one of Leo's favorite to bounce along to!) nursery rhymes, read books, scream and yell, chat, and play with lots of energy. Working on fine motor skills, and getting lots of one on one attention.

SNACK/BOTTLE TIME/quiet story with lullabies.

NAP TIME

AFTERNOON: Daily walks to the library or to the park (5 minute walk). Being outside is very important to me, fresh air makes everyone happier! Followed by more play time, books, music, and art projects (once they are of age) to get creative with some paints and crayons!
I don't follow any schedule EXTREMELY closely, but I like to incorporate some structure, with those main activities during the day. Of course on sunny days we can picnic outside, play longer on the grass, and dance outside instead of inside! My main focus is on the children, and making sure they feel safe, loved and cared for throughout the day.
(Of course as the children get older, activities and daily routines would change to fit age and interests)

As of right now we are currently in a one bedroom. (Plans of a two bedroom are within a couple months, same location just waiting on one to open up) so in the very near future there will be more room for everyone. In the meantime I don't see our current living quarters as space issue. We have Leo's area of toys, books, changing table, rugs to play on, and a rocking chair. We have a crib and can easily set up a couple Pack N plays for nap time in the bedroom. I am located in Raleigh Hills area, just down the road from Raleigh park and the Library. Lots of great neighborhood to walk around in, and a nice big from lawn for run around play time.

I know leaving your kid during the day is extremely hard, that is why as a mom and a nanny I want to make you feel as comfortable as possible with knowing your child is in good care. We can stay in touch throughout the day by texting, and I will certainly keep track of your child's day with notes of eating, sleeping, activities, and other fun things that were don't throughout the day. With dropping your child off with me during the day you can be assured they will get one on one attention, other interaction with kids of close to the same age, and lots of play time! I think this is a fun, unique setting for a child to not feel overwhelmed in a daycare setting, but also have other kids their age to interact with and grow close with. I am not claiming to be an in-home daycare, I am a new mom who loved being a nanny and is hoping to get the opportunity to combine my two loves and create my dream job.

My rate would be $9hr per child.

I am open and willing to work with different schedules and times during the day. I hope to at the least have 25hrs a week per kid, and no more then 35hr (but again, open for discussion) Also open to nanny share.

Location is SW Portland, Raleigh Hills. Near the Fred Meyer and New Seasons off Beaverton Hillsdale.

I have a list of great references that would love to talk to you, I am CPR certified, and am willing to send my resume.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Creative, caring nanny looking for Full/Part time Position!

January 02, 2017

Hello and Happy New Year!

My name is Alaina, I am a 29 year old Portland native looking for my next family to Nanny for! My ideal position would be three 10-12 hour days, doesn't matter what days of the week, if the days switch off each week, or if they are consecutive week days off together. I am just hoping to find something around 30-35 hours per week, also open to a nanny share situation. I am a new mom to a 4 month old boy, named Leo. I absolutely love being a mom, he's such a sweet little guy and has been nothing but a joy in our life. My mother has graciously offered to watch Leo 2 days a week, but I would love to be able to bring him one day a week to work. This can be discussed in greater detail of course. I know this may not sound ideal to some families, but I can assure you it would have no negative effect on me being a nanny to your family. I would give equal attention to each child, and I love the thought of my son growing up with other children, and forming lasting friendships. I started my last nanny job in January 2016, which I was with full time until September when I went on maternity leave. The plan was to return to work at the start of January 2017 and bring Leo with me, but things changed with the families work schedule and they can no longer guarantee a set amount of hours anymore, since the mom will be home more often, so here I am!
I live in SW Portland in the Raleigh Hills area, so keeping it within a 20-30 min drive at most would be helpful (especially with this growing Portland traffic!)
A little about me, my work history, and teaching style.

I have grown up in the Portland metro area my whole life, I love Oregon and all if has to offer. Like most Oregonians, I love the lifestyle we are able to have by living here, beautiful day hikes, weekend trips to the Oregon Coast, camping, and trying a new awesome restaurant each weekend. Eating locally and as healthy as possible is very important for me. Which is why staying active, and eating fresh is definitely incorporated as much as possible when I am watching children. I like to have the kids help me cook, get them involved and show them what its like to eat from the garden, daily walks, and exploring all nature has to offer. Rain or shine, I need to go outside everyday! I very much believe a child's imagination is the most important thing to exercise and discover, and no better place to do that then the great outdoors. I grew up in a large family, with my parents, two older sisters, and a younger brother. I now have 4 nieces, and the family keeps growing. I feel very lucky to have them all live close by so Leo can grow up surrounded by his grandparents and cousins.

Being a Nanny has always been my favorite job of them all. The bond and relationships you form are extremely rewarding and irreplaceable. I have nannied children ranging from 4MO-14years old. As a parent I can only imagine how hard it is to leave your children everyday for work, that’s why as a nanny I make sure the children know they are loved and cared for everyday, I am there for any questions and concerns they have, and am there to teach them and help them grow. I love to stay positive and active. From working in school environments in the past I have taken to implementing some things into my nanny life. Making sure each day has time for reading, crafts, down time, dance/play, and outdoor learning/activities. I know every family is different, some are more structured and scheduled, others may not follow a schedule, with that said I am open to whatever makes the family feel most at ease and comfortable.

As I search for the next family to work with, I am hoping to find something long-term, at least a year+ commitment would be ideal. I want to treat my next job as much as a career as possible, 1 week paid vacation/holiday pay, and a guaranteed amount of hours each pay period. I have a weekly sheet I fill out for the families, which includes activities done throughout the day, food intake, potty/nap schedule, miles driven, expenses used, and hours for the day. It really helps the parents and I keep track in an organized way and it’s seemed to work out really well.

I can imagine trying to find the right Nanny for your family to be a very hard process. I don't blame the family for wanting to maybe have a lengthy hiring process, or wanting to do a trial run to see if you are a right fit before hiring, and to me that makes so much sense. You can't be too sure when you know this person is going to be watching your children. So with that said, I am available for contact through e-mail or phone. If you're interested I can send my resume, which gives in greater detail my childcare experience, I also have great references that are more then willing to chat with you, and we can chat on the phone before meeting to see if we would be a good fit for each other!

I have a 2002 Subaru Outback, which is a very safe and reliable car. I have had my license since I was 16, with an amazing driving record. I recently renewed my First Aid/CPR training and am enrolled in the Criminal Background Check. I am comfortable with pets, and don't mind walking the dog. I am comfortable with meal prep, light housekeeping, and running errands. I don't smoke.

In my last few positions I was getting paid $16 hourly for two children. I am willing to go down to $15 for one child. If its a Nanny share situation I would charge $9 an hour per family.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, I am a very caring, reliable, patient, and open minded person, I look at being a Nanny as a career, and not just a job to have until I find something better. I am very excited to find the next family to work with. Thanks again, and I hope to hear from you!

Little Imprints Preschool in North Portland

One opening available for the 2016-2017 school year.

We are a community based preschool that believes in instilling a love of learning, play, and exploration to the children in our care. Our school is designed with the intent of teaching children to become confident and effective communicators. We achieve this aim by having a low child to teacher ratio, while providing a safe, comfortable environment for the children to practice all the important life skills they will need to prosper.

Our daily routine involves a multitude of authentic, open ended materials, engaging art, nature, and music activities, and healthy organic snacks. We believe that less is more in the preschool environment, and the materials and objects within the school are tailored to expand upon the interests of each and every child. We have a large, fenced in backyard, and frequently explore the neighborhoods and parks surrounding the school. Indoor and outdoor play are equally important, and we go outside each day rain or shine.

We are located near the New Seasons in North Portland (close to the intersection of N Rosa Parks and N Interstate), Little Imprints is a certified, in-home preschool. We offer care Tuesday through Friday, from 8:30 until 3:00. Half days are available from 8:30 until 12:30. Care is available for preschool aged children, between 3 and 5 years old. We follow the Portland Public School schedule for all major holiday and seasonal closings.

The Willow Tree Preschool is in its 11th year as a community of learners; we are an eclectic program influenced by the progressive early childhood programs of Reggio Emilia, Italy developed with over 20 years of experience in early childhood education. Blending a respect for nature, with a focus on art, in a warm beautiful home environment created to meet the needs of the young child. Children are encouraged to move and learn at their own pace, inviting them to explore and build meaning through their experiences. It is through playful exploration that real learning happens, creative thinking evolves, problem solving develops, and true connection and meaning is made.

At the Willow Tree children’s natural sense of awe and wonder about the world is nurtured through movement, song, and story, supporting the children’s social, emotional, physical, creative and intellectual development.

Weekly visits from the yoga, and music specialist promote further exploration, enhancing our curriculum.

The preschool hours are from 9 am to 1 pm for children 2 1/2 to 5 years of age.

We would love to meet you and your child, contact the director to set up a tour kim@willowtreepreschool.com

Olive Branch School Montessori Now Enrolling

Cover2

4 Openings for January 3, 2017.

Now Accepting applications for 2017-2018 waitlist, for ages 2.5 years -6 years. Children must be self-toileting or working on achievement in pull-ups.

We love our work with children and view every day as an opportunity to see the best that humanity has to offer. We are delighted when we glimpse the compassion of a child rubbing another's back during story-time or asking another if she needs
a hug, and we are joyed at the independence of a three year old setting up a tea party and inviting his friends. Each day is something new and amazing at Olive Branch School, a Montessori Primary School environment serving children ages 2.5-6 years old and their families.

Our school offers a range of experiences that encourage resourcefulness (critical thinking), support the building of self-control, discipline and decision making skills (cognitive and executive functioning) and nurture the emotional and spiritual growth of each child through positive social interactions. Children attending Olive Branch School are a part of a supportive, shared community experience 5 days a week. Our class size is small and responsive with a 7:1 ratio, 14 child maximum. A Montessori education truly gives a child the keys to the world and sets them on the road to loving learning.

Certified In-Home CF502413.

To facilitate learning and consistency for children and staff, all children attend Monday-Friday. Families may choose from 1/2 day 8:30am-12:30pm ($450 monthly), or full day 8:30am-3:30pm ($750) attendance. We are a year round program and also offer optional weekly themed Summer Programming.
