Help Complete a Select Group

I realize that you hear this a lot: my daycare is the best, your child will be happy here, yadda, yadda.  But what I do is not only different but unique.  I am small enough (only six children) and select enough (my references after twenty two years in the business speak volumes) that I actually create a family learning environment. 

I always attempt to find just the mix of children at different learning levels.  I have graduated over a hundred children to kindergarten and would like to enable your child to enter school one day reading and writing, understanding not only their numbers but how to use them.  I balance learning with play and because of the size of the group, I am able to give almost individual care to your child.

I have three openings... one immediate opening!

I have been operating a pre-preschool in my close-in NE Portland home for twenty-two years.  This year, I am graduating three of my students to kindergarten (the class of 2009 marks my one hundredth graduates).

What I offer is rare among daycares in Portland.  A small select group of six children who engage in regular school activities (which is not only excellent training for the children  but for  the parents as well) with instruction in the arts and language as well as organic gardening.

Seeking Childcare for infant, Beaverton, October 2009

I am due to have a baby at the end of June. I will be taking 4 months of leave and returning to work full-time in mid to late October 2009. I want to make sure I have child care set up LONG before that time because it is so diffcult to find good care for an infant. I don't like daycare centers for infants, but I am also not particularly comfortable with an in-home provider without reliable and strong references. Any suggestions of in-home providers in the Beaverton area? Hillsboro is an option too - we're right on the line of the two cities. I'm also open to a SAHM with a child 2 or younger who is interested in having a playmate for her child while also making some additional income for her family. Things that are important to me: high quality care, low ratio, natural/organic food (once eating solids), loving, learning environment, and no to minimal TV. Any and all suggestions welcome!! Feedback about Apple Blossom, Blossom House, or Mother Earth Preschools?

Hello fellow Portland Parents!

I am looking for some feedback from parents (or even former teachers) who have had their children attend one of the following three preschools:

• Apple Blossom Nursery School
• Blossom House Preschool 
• Mother Earth Childcare  

I am considering all three schools for my son and will be visiting them in the next week to form my own opinions, but I would LOVE to hear any firsthand accounts of people who've had their children in one of these schools.  Please email me at hcullom@aol.com with any feedback that you might have, whether positive or negative.

(My son was abused at a daycare about a year ago [despite my valiant efforts to do everything "right" in screening the daycare, questioning parents, showing up unannounced, etc], so I am even more nervous about finding childcare than your average parent.  We've had a wonderful nanny for the past year, but she is leaving us because she needs to spend more time with her three pre-teen and teenage boys.)

I would be EVER grateful for any advice or feedback anyone can give me!

If you'd like to suggest another option, that's great too, but I am a single mama so I need full-time preschool (full days, 4-5 days per week) and can't do co-ops or other schools that only offer half day programs.  If you have any other great ideas, please pass them along too!

Are you needing care for your happy, fun loving toddler? Then you may be the account I am looking for!

I have been doing daycare in my home since 1997 and love what I do. The kids in my care range in age from infancy to 3 years old and my home is a play land for this age group.... We have 2 indoor play rooms and a big back yard for outside time. I offer dress up, dollies, blocks, books, play dough, arts and crafts, music, dance, and more. I serve home cooked meals and although I'm not totally organic, I do use all hormone free meats and milk. We go outside as much as the weather will allow and watch no TV.  I follow a daily routine that allows for consistent naps and meal times but believe that children learn as they play and allow the kids to choose the activities we do throughout the day.  I am open weekdays 8 - 5:15 and charge $35 a day. I currently have 2 full time openings but will consider part time as well.!

Seeking another family & nanny for a nanny share

My husband and I are currently looking for a full-time nanny share (M-F, 7:30 - 5:30) for our 10-week-old daughter, with a desired start date of February 2. We had originally arranged for her to be in daycare when my maternity leave ends, but have recently decided that we would prefer to have her cared for by a nanny instead, and we are seeking another family for a nanny share. We are flexible on whether care would occur in our home or the other family's, or some combination of both. We have a dog and 2 cats and are both non-smokers. We live in the Laurelhurst neighborhood of NE Portland.

Seeking SAHM for FT/4 days childcare, N PDX

We are looking for a SAHM with a toddler to watch out little ones! I wish I could stay home myself and we absolutely support this type of arrangement, in fact we have had this situation before. It is a great social situation for our son and it also supports you and your family. Plus it makes going to work not as hard.

We need someone to come to our house because my husband has to leave by 7am and I usually leave earlier than that. He just cannot get out the door by 7am trying to dress and ready 2 babies and drop them off.

We would need help full time, but four days a week Tues-Friday 7am to 5pm (my husband rarely gets home at 5 pm, it is usually 4 or 4:30, but just in case).

We live within walking distance to a community center that offers activities during the day. Previous nannies have said that our babies are sweet and easy, I agree, but who am I to say.

Some details: Our 2 year old is really sweet, silly and loves trains, books, snuggles and trucks. He is quite verbal at this point. We are having loads of fun with him. Our 7 month old is a happy, mellow, chubby little guy  who loves to snuggle and laugh at his brother. The only time he will complain is if he is bored and wants someone to snuggle him. I usually just wear him in the back pack when I am cooking.

We are somewhat attachment parenting, no TV, no sweets kinds of a family.  However, my husband and I are quite mellow and really want our boys to be in loving, patient hands.

Additionally, with me in graduate school (nursing) and my husband working as a teacher, we cannot afford to pay a super high hourly wage and are offering a salary (negotiable), 2 weeks paid vacation (xmas and spring break), paid holidays, meals and other perks.

A Spanish Immersion Preschool

About us: We are a dual immersion program for pre-school aged children (3yr-5yrs).  The teachers speak Spanish during the class time, using English when necessary. Teachers make learning Spanish fun while providing a structured and warm classroom environment. Childcare available for a happy little friend (infant - preschooler)

I care for a great little group of friends here in my home in inner NE Portland near MLK and Rodney.  I currently have a very small group and am looking to add a couple more personalities into the mix.  I would love to add an infant to the group but would gladly accept ages up to 4 years old.

We love to sing and dance, read books, have puppet shows, do puzzles, art projects, preschool activities and play with all of our toys in our great play-space and baby-room.  We have an organic garden and chickens that the kids get to "help" with in our great big back yard.

I provide healthy home-cooked meals and include many organic foods but we do eat some conventional foods as well.  I provide a loving and comfortable environment and lots of hugs but I have found that when working with a group it isn't feasible to accommodate attachment parenting. 

I was a nanny for many years before becoming a mom myself and I have been providing care here in my home for the past five or so years.  I can provide many loving references.

I am available Monday - Friday 7:30 - 5:30 and charge $35/day.

Need FT Nanny for 3 kids

Hello, After being a stay-at-home-mom for 6 years, I just received a job offer today and am heading back to cube world in 3 weeks.  I'm completely overwhelmed in every direction, but mostly wondering how I'm going to find someone very special to replace me during the day.  I have 3 kids, ages 7, 4, and 11 months.  I would need a nanny from 8-5 and she would also need to drop my 2nd grader off at school, my 4 year old off at Pre-K (noon to 3P) and then pick them both up in the afternoon (they are both at the same school).  This is probably way too much info, but I'm just a bit lost.  Do most folks use agencies and if so, which ones?  Has anyone used Craigs list with success?  What's the going rate for FT nannies (40 hrs/week)?  Thanks for any info you'd be willing to share!

I am looking for a day care center or in home care provider for my son starting in January of '09. I work in North Portland and would prefer a place close to there but I live in the Bethany area so that would work also. I am an experienced, loving nanny seeking a part-time or full-time position with a wonderful family. I'm 31, a college graduate, a writer and an artist. I have 3 years of recent child care experience, and excellent references. I like to spend my days with kids going on outings to the park, having picnics, exploring the neighborhood, going to the library, having story time or crafting at home. I think that laughter is an important part of our day together, as well as learning new things. I have experience with children 6 months-10 years old. I've taken two child development classes, and one child psychology class. I'm familiar with different parenting styles, and I use positive reinforcement rather than punishment.

I ride a bike, and I am comfortable taking children on public transportation, or using a bike trailer if there is one available. I am open to working in most areas of Portland that are close-in. My rates start at 12/hr, depending on the number of children, and their ages. I am looking for a family that practices clear, respectful communication and sincerely values their child care provider. Seeking Full-Time Care for 2 1/2 Year Old

FT Nanny Needed in NE PDX

We are looking for a full-time (M-F 8-5) with some flexibility, long term (at least 1 year) nanny to take our kiddos on fun adventures around Portland and smother them with love.  We have a 3.5 yr old boy and an 18 mo old girl. I work from home and travel about once a month so there may be some longer days when I am out of town.  However, we will know well in advance when those days are. My husband works up at OHSU as a fellow so he isn't around much for kiddo care. 

We are looking for someone who has worked full time as a nanny in the past and can be creative with planning activities for the kids to do.  We have a membership to the Zoo and will most likely get one to OMSI. We live within walking distance to Grant Park, the library, grocery stores, and the MAX.  Our last nanny was with us for about 2.5 years and we were heartbroken to have to move away.  We just moved here from Denver, CO two weeks ago.  We encourage playdates with other nannys and their charges to keep everyone happy and are open to suggestions on activities.

Mama/Teacher looking to care for another toddler in NE

I have decided to stay at home next year to take care of my almost 2 year old and my newborn (she will be born in late August).  I am looking to watch another child in my home starting in October or November who is around my toddler’s age (she will be 2 years on September 30th).  As happy as I am to be home with her, I don’t want her to be at home without a playmate during the day.  I would love to find someone around her age to care for full-time.

New Farm Montessori Children’s House (formerly New Farm Kids Home Educare) will be a fully implemented Montessori program, led by Mandy Lehinger, an AMI trained Montessori guide. New Farm Montessori will open with a small group of children age 2.5 - 4 years, and will grow to serve a mixed-age group of children age 2.5 - 6 years.
