In-home Child Care in Lake Oswego

There is a wonderful in-home child care downtown Lake Oswego that is open for part-time or full-time care.   I have been taking my little one there for over a year, but we have since moved out of Lake Oswego.   We have been commuting our toddler 30 minutes each way to continue care there, that is how much we appreciate and respect the day care provider, Catherine.  She is a former teacher, and has been running  her child care for several years.   Catherine is reasonably priced, and is flexible, dependable, and reliable... All very important qualities.   She cares for the children in her home, and involves them in a variety of activities, including gardening...which we really appreciate.   She cares for infants as well as toddlers, and currently has openings for 6 weeks-5 years.

Catherine does not have internet so I am writing this post on her behalf.   Below you will find her phone number.   I also welcome any emails/questions that you may have for me.    kimberlylchambers@yahoo.com

Summer Nanny Available

May 29, 2013

Hi,

I am a 20 year-old female university student who is living in Portland for the summer. I am taking one class at PSU but other than that have a completely free and flexible schedule. I have extensive experience in childcare spanning the past 7 years. I have been both a full time and part time nanny, wilderness camp counselor, lifeguard, Au Pair, volunteer at a babies orphanage, tutor, ski instructor, and ski racing coach for children between the ages of 5 months and 15 years. I have also worked as a chef in the kitchen at the wilderness and am able to prepare all types of meals. I am willing to commute as long as the house is accessible via public transportation. Additionally, I have my drivers liscense in case the children need to be driven to and from activities, etc.

I am living in Portland with my friend Mallory who has similar nannying/camp experience. We are willing to engage in a nanny share with multiple families, taking care of a group of children in one place. We could go on excursions, play outdoors, etc. Both of us are Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certified.

I can provide references and more information if your family is interested. Please contact me:

phone: 802-310-2011

email: sokronk@gmail.com

Thanks,

Our Recommendation: Fantastic In-Home Childcare in NE Pdx (openings for toddlers in Fall)

May 23, 2013

I want to write a whole-hearted recommendation for the woman who has cared for our son for the past 2 years. At the end of this summer, he'll be moving on to pre-school (at age 3.9 yrs). Several other kids (all older) will be moving on, as well, and this will be leaving a few openings for 2 to 4 year olds.

Here's a little background about Debby Holland and her home: she's been doing this for almost 30 years. She cares for kids in her home, up to six children a day (two kids under two and four kids over two). The home is located in NE Portland/Beaumont Wilshire/Cully area.

Her home is modest, sweet, and totally fun for the kids. She swaps out books and toys regularly so there's always something new and exciting. She is incredibly thoughtful about how she works with each child, tailoring her efforts to their needs, if they have specific ones. The kids play outside for some period every day, even during winter. She provides breakfast, snack, lunch and afternoon snack. Food is healthful, fresh, and organic as often as possible. The kids will often bake with her, measuring, stirring, and then eating the finished product! Parents may provide their own food, if desired.

Fun, Adventure- Loving, College-Educated, Silliness-Causing Nanny Available!

May 22, 2013

Hi there!
My name is Ashley. I am 26 years old and recently graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in Texas back in December. I am looking for a full-time position, at least 35 hours a week, or even occasional babysitting- I am available anytime! While I was in school, I was a nanny for three children (ages 2-5) and was an occasional babysitter for a 4 & 10 year old. I have excellent references that I can provide for you and I have been babysitting on and off since I was 14. I love kids! I'm really big into reading (I absolutely love Fancy Nancy, Harry Potter and Eloise!), making music, dancing,  eating healthy snacks, science experiments, going to parks, arts and crafts, adventure, imagination, silliness and sidewalk chalk. I like to create games and scavenger hunts. I am open to doing cleaning and meal preparation, and any other household chores that need to be done. I rely on public transportation so I will need a family close to the MAX or buslines. Please email me: where you found my posting, a little bit about your family, your rate, and your requirements at ashleyborck24@gmail.com if you would like to to meet to see if your family and I are a good match!124

Wildflowers Preschool

Wildflowers Preschool is an Eco-healthy preschool in the Creston-Kenilworth neighborhood. The director and lead teacher, Heidi Donahue, has a Master's in Environmental Education and has created a curriculum that is a unique mix of Reggio Emilia, Montessori and Environmental Education. All three approaches to early childhood education give children some control over the direction of their learning, highlight the importance of using all senses to learn and honor the endless range of ways children have to express themselves. We provide an environment where children feel safe and part of a small community of families and teachers working together to meet the needs of each child. We offer daily circle times, literacy lessons, music and movement, art activities and lots of exploration of the natural world. We believe that children learn best when they are allowed to follow their natural curiosities about the world.

We celebrate the growth and development of the whole child while building a community of learners who practice respect for oneself, each other, and the environment. We encourage children to be active in their learning and provide them with the tools to be responsible, independent, and successful.

At First Impressions Preschool, we believe children learn best by doing! We implement a play-based, emergent curriculum while incorporating Montessori components. Our integrative approach focuses on the process of learning while fostering the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of young children. We provide rich materials and experiences that match children's individual interests and understanding. By meeting their individual needs, interests, and abilities and by celebrating their growth we help build a positive self-esteem so children can feel good about themselves and the world around them.

Montessori Children's House offers both Toddler and Primary Montessori programs.  We are located in a dynamic and diverse new Portland neighborhood, the South Waterfront, adjacent to a lovely park and the Willamette River Greenway.

We have mixed-age groups -- a Toddler Community (beginning around 15-16 months) and two Primary classes ranging from two-and-a-half years old up through kindergarten age (5-6).

'We toured a total of six schools before we found the right one for our daughter. We even enrolled her in another one prior to Montessori Children's House only to pull her out because we were disappointed in our experience there. I wish that we had discovered this school sooner! It would have saved us a lot of stress.'

'The space itself is gorgeous, all new, beautiful learning areas, just what you would imagine a top notch Montessori school to look like...The location on South Waterfront is very easy to get to and from, parking is right in front of the main door and the teachers will even greet the kids at your car. We highly recommend Montessori Children’s House!'

Best way to find infant care options in/near SE?

January 27, 2013

Hi UrbanMamas!

We moved to Portland recently for my husband's job, and there must be something in the water, because we're already expecting our first child - a baby boy - in June 2013!

As per instructions from almost everyone I know, we're already starting to look into infant care options for when I go back to work full time in September 2013.  We've gotten a few recommendations from my still measly social networks here but mainly we're relying on internet research which seems to be turning up the same few options: ChildRoots, Creative Minds, Grandma's Place, Belmont Academy, CCLC, the OHSU CCLC (we're looking in/near SE).  Or find a nanny.

I figure this can't be all that's out there or 90% of the babies in SE Portland wouldn't have a place to go.  My prenatal yoga instructor says many places just don't have websites.  Does anyone have ideas - specific places or lists of places?  A nanny or nanny share would also be an option.  I work from home and have a fairly flexible schedule, so I don't necessarily need a full-time, 9-6 deal.  On the other hand I've been told not to expect to get any work done if I'm home with the baby, even if there's a nanny there too.  And I do travel for work from time to time, and my husband has VERY long and VERY inflexible hours (he's a resident at OHSU).

Would love to hear from anyone with experience or ideas!  Places you or your friends have sent your babies, lists you've received, other networks you think I should tap into?  Mamas who work from home, any creative ways you've made it work?  Nanny+coworking space?  Would love to hear any and all input!

Thanks SO much,

Open House for Wild Lilac Child Development Community - Saturday Feb 2nd and Feb 12th

January 25, 2013

Wild Lilac offers a progressive Waldorf and Reggio inspired ealry childhood program for children ages six weeks through 5 years old in SE Portland!

Our homey classrooms provide children with plentiful and varied opportunities to construct knowledge about the broadening world around them using simple wooden toys, a plethora of art, building and storytelling materials, dress up clothes and silks, materials for light and shadow exploration and more!

Outside of the classroom, we explore our neighborhood and community through fieldtrips to gain a deeper understanding of the ideas we explore inside our classrooms.

Our teachers hold the image of each child as capable, competent, and curious and strive to meet each individual children's interests and passions with learning opportunities that inspire. It is the teacher's role to observe the children, support their learning and to gently guide them to accept challenges and solve problems. Wild Lilac teachers document the children's experiences to make their learning visible to the whole community.

Infant Space Available at The Earth Tortoise Montessori School

The Earth Tortoise Montessori School is an intimate community of 3 month
to 3 year old children, their families, and their teachers, nestled on a quiet tree
lined cul de sac.

We see these first three years as a time for free exploration and developing a sense of self.
Infants are just learning about their own bodies and developing the abilities they will need for all later learning. Toddlers are coming into their own. They are learning their place in the world, developing and refining their skills, and asserting their independence.

The classroom is the children's space - child-sized, beautiful, and completely accessible to their need for doing things on their own. It is a peaceful place that gives them the chance to choose
what they want to work on within a routine that is predictable and limits that help them feel secure. Learning develops the whole child - physically, cognitively, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. There are no "right" answers but only more exciting questions. And we love to share their enthusiasm with them in an attitude of acceptance, patience, and love.

Community is very important to us. We hope to create a place for families that feels like an extension of their home, a network of support that begins during pregnancy and extends out until your child is ready to move out into the larger world.

We currently have a child graduating in to a preschool program, making an
infant space available beginning in FEbruary. If you are interested in learning
more, please visit our website - www.theearthtortoiseschool.com. To schedule a tour please contact us at either (503) 257-4783 or at theearthtortoiseschool@gmail.com

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from your family!
