I am looking for a full-time position, at least 35 hours a week, or even occasional babysitting- I am available anytime! While I was in school, I was a nanny for three children (ages 2-5) and was an occasional babysitter for a 4 & 10 year old. I am a registered in home child care provider with over 14 years of experience.  I offer child care in my North Portland home from 7:30-5:30 Monday -Friday.  We are located near Rosa Parks & Trillium elementary school.

When my kids started grade school, I invested a pretty penny in buying the Crocodile Creek BPA-free lunch boxes. Even after losing several, I purchased replacements. After several years of daily use, I think it's time to retire my son's lunchbox. It's become tattered from washes, and getting moldy! The problem is, I am bothered that it has not held up over the years and now the potential adverse health effects of a moldy lunchbox outweighs the eco-consciousness of have a reusable container. What am I to do, throw it away? Repurpose it? Any suggestions for a more durable replacement?

Mighty Oaks Preschool is now hosting a monthly Parents' Night Out! This month it will be held on Friday, January 25th from 5:30-9:00pm.

PNO is a time for you to enjoy a date with your significant other, get work done, get a massage, take a nap… just enjoy some YOU time and we’ll handle the rest. Pizza and snacks will be provided! Participants will have the opportunity to play and create from 5:30-7.At 7pm we will show an appropriate movie (children will have the option to continue with their play or get cozy and watch the movie). Reservations are required as spaces fill quickly.

While priority will be given to preschool aged children and their siblings, this event is open to all children aged 2-10.

Little Hands Garden School has been called “The best-kept secret in Mt. Tabor,” by the Portland Mercury (Finder Magazine, 2011).  We are an eco-healthy, home-based program with two to three teachers and 10 students per day. Our hours are 9-1, M-Th.

We are a play-based preschool supporting children’s right to play and
acknowledging play is the primary way through which children learn.
We believe all curriculum needs to be inquiry-based, and modeled upon
the interests of our students.  Our schedule changes daily as we sometimes get so involved in our projects we forget the time...... which is kind of the goal, really.  We draw from many pedagogical ideologies but are primarily focused on the Reggio
Emilia model of inspiring the child’s innate creativity.  At our
school children are free to play, to be outside with the chickens, bunnies, or in the garden, free to run, shout, sing, dance, dress up, hug, read, rest, paint, glue, glitter, explore, dig, build, hang from a trapeze, get dirty, and make messes.  This is above all a place for children to be free to explore the world as they wish.

Lunch and one to two primarily organic snacks, straight from our
garden when available, are provided daily.  Our activities include singing, music, drama, reading, storytelling, puppetry, art, gardening, outdoor play, dance, yoga, games, baking, and plenty of time for dramatic play exploration.  We also do field trips on Mt. Tabor and to neighborhood parks.  We are outside all day when the
weather permits.  In the winter when the weather is not so permitting,
we get serious about the drama aspect of our curriculum and create
sets, make props, practice lines, and re-enact plays of the children’s
choosing.  Our favorite plays last winter were the 3 Little Pigs,

Carrie Riley, director, founder and lead teacher of Apple Blossom Nursery School, is a state - and Waldorf - certified teacher with over 20 years experience in child care and 16 years as a lead teacher. She is also state registered. Carrie is mother to three grown children & 4 grandchildren.

Apple Blossom is an ECO certified school. All teachers take yearly continuing education courses to keep up to date on child development knowledge.  AB far exceeds the state mandated 15 hours per year. The average annual training is over 50 hours each!

Of course, all teachers have completed their child CPR & first aide, and a criminal history background check, reference checks & go through a trial 90 day trial period with AB before being hired.

Apple Blossom offers year-round school including aftercare Monday through Friday. We observe the same break schedule as Portland public schools; this includes holidays and inclement weather days.

During the school year we offer delicious homemade organic and vegetarian meals with a focus on nutrition. As the children arrive for school they are welcomed with warm herbal tea and a light breakfast of warm cereal & fruit.

We are state certified. Childcare options in Oregon include exempt family, registered family, certified family, or center care. There are over 5300 child care homes in Oregon. Of that number just 225 are certified homes. There are about 1020 centers. Certified homes are regulated like centers and have many of the same requirements. Every certified home goes through an annual certification process, unannounced visits and is inspected by the childcare division and the county health department. The certifier also observes the staff working with children. Staff in certified homes must have at least one full year of previous childcare experience or college training in early childhood education, child development, or in a related field.

When making your choice, know that going with a certified and licensed home, you are making a best choice there is! It’s a lot of work, but I feel it's worth it for you and your child’s well being.

If I had to sum up Brooke's qualifications as a nanny, I'd simply call her a baby whisperer. She is incredibly intuitive with children. Brooke started with our family when my son was merely 12 weeks old. He is now 2 years old and moving on to day care. Brooke is looking for a new family and the first one to snatch her up will be a lucky family indeed.

From day one, Brooke has been able to read my son better than most. Brooke was always one step ahead of us when it came to recognizing new milestones that my son was reaching. I would often come home to discover a brand new set up of toys that engaged him and took advantage of whichever milestone he had reached, from sitting up, to walking, to running and jumping, dancing and drawing.

Brooke supported my breast feeding, wore my son exclusively until he was a year old, used cloth diapers, you name it. She supported every parenting decision that we have made.

Brooke is a fun, easy-going, loving, and playful individual. She will light up the life of your child, but you will also be surprised at how much you grow to care for Brooke. Every day that Brooke leaves, my son runs to the door and blows her kisses until she is out of sight. There is no greater reference than that.

Brooke is CPR/ First aid certified and has a degree in culinary arts. She loves taking the kids on outings in her safe car. She is looking for full-time but will consider part-time.

Little Hands Garden School is an Eco-healthy preschool located on Hawthorne @59th on the edge of Mt. Tabor.  We are a home-based program with a ratio of 2:8.  Our hours are 9-1, M-Th.  We have some spots still available for next year, beginning September 2012.

Lunch and one to two snacks (mostly organic, always homemade) are
provided daily.  Our activities include a drama, song/music circle, reading,
snack, art, outdoor play (gardening or other), dance/yoga/games,
baking, lunch, story time, and more outdoor play.  We also do field
trips on Mt. Tabor and to neighborhood parks.  We are outside all day
when the weather permits.

We believe all curriculum needs to be inquiry-based, and
is modeled upon the interests of our students.  Our schedule
changes daily as we sometimes get so involved in our projects we
forget the time...... which is kind of the goal, really.  We draw from
many pedagogical ideologies but are primarily inspired by the Reggio Emilia and Waldorf philosophies.  At our school children are free to play, to be outside
with the chickens, bunnies, or in the garden, free to run, scream,
sing, dance, dress up, hug, read, rest, paint, glue, glitter, explore,
dig, hang from a trapeze, get dirty, get naked, and make as many
messes as they want.  This is above all a place for children to be free
to explore the world as they wish.

2 days/wk $320
3 days/wk $480
4 days/wk $600

We accept children ages 3-5.   We look for a long-term commitment when we welcome a new family, as we form a special relationship with each child and don't like to say
goodbye until Kindergarten.
