A GREAT NANNY AND A TINY COMPANION FOR YOUR BABY! (SE – PT W,Th,F))

February 19, 2012

Get two for one!  After eight great years as a professional nanny I had my own little love-bug.  Now I am looking for a lucky little one to spend some happy days with my daughter and me.

No need to scramble to get out of the house, we can come to you and your child will get to eat and sleep in the comfort of his or her home.  I will set up a pack and play for my daughter to nap in and will bring our meals with us each day.  When the kids are not eating or sleeping, we will enjoy all that Portland has to offer.  Activities of the day might include playtime at home, story time at home and/or the library, walks to local parks and playgrounds, and trips to the Children’s Museum, OMSI, the zoo, or community centers!

A couple of years ago I went back to school for a Masters in teaching with an emphasis in early childhood education.  I discovered that I really do love working with the little ones and enjoy the freedom of being outside of a classroom.   We have fun learning out in the real world while I see to it that the children in my care are safe, healthy, and loved!

If you think your child would enjoy spending time with us when he or she can’t be with you, please reach out to me at adavendonis<at>yahoo.com.  (Use @ sign when emailing.)  I would like to work the same hours week to week so that I can set up a routine for the kids, but can be flexible with which hours those are.  Most important is finding a family that my daughter (10 mos.) and I feel comfortable around and mesh well with.

New Child Care Center Opening in the Pearl District in April 2012

February 15, 2012

ChildRoots, A Center for Young Children, (www.childroots.com), is an environmental and Art-and-Science-based learning community, dedicated to providing superior child care for children ages six weeks to six years.  ChildRoots, which is located at 50 SE 17th Ave. and E. Burnside, will be opening a new Center location in April in the Pearl District.  The new Center, entitled ChildRoots NW, will be located at 1740 N.W. Flanders St. on the corner of N.W. 18th and N.W. Flanders St.  The Center is a 9,000 square-foot-space comprised of nine classrooms, with a total capacity for 110 children.  The space was formally a Children’s Creative Learning Center (CCLC) child care, aka KinderCare. Because this space was previously home to another child care center, the remodel efforts and structural changes will be minimal.

ChildRoots NW will feature a nice-sized outdoor area for play and its very own parking lot. The Center will also have an art lab and a science lab.

Active enrollment for ages six weeks to six years has begun at ChildRoots NW and the Center will be hiring a total of 35 new teachers to help run the program.

ChildRoots has been recognized by local media including The Oregonian, the Portland Tribune, and the Hollywood Star for its leadership in sustainability.  ChildRoots features organic meals and snacks, locally-sourced food, cloth diapers, non-toxic wooden toys, creative spaces, a Preschool Atelier Program, and play-based learning.

For information about enrolling at ChildRoots NW, please contact Christina at christina@childroots.com to set up a tour.

Infant/Toddler nanny seeking new family in inner pdx

February 10, 2012

Hello,

My name is Wendy and I have been working in the child care industry for the past 3.5 years, however, I have over 10 years experience caring for children, including raising a step son.  I have passed a National background check and Oregon's background check for child care workers. I am First Aid/CPR Certified and have obtained 400+ hours in Early Childhood Education. There for I am confident that I have the experience and the qualifications that you are seeking in a caregiver.

Most of my experience is with wobblers and toddlers (1-3 year olds) as this is my favorite age group.  I do however; have experience with children of all ages. I have cared for children on a one-on-one basis and in a group setting.   I am a mature individual seeking a long term, part, or fulltime position.

I am a very fun loving and active nanny.  I believe that children, especially babies, are learning and absorbing things all the time.  I enjoy fostering this learning and natural curiosity by stimulating them with fun and educational activities.   I also enjoy taking them on walks, setting up play dates, taking them to any classes that you might have them signed up in, and other age appropriate outings.

I am pet friendly, have experience with expressed milk and cloth diapers.   When the time comes I also have experience with potty-training.   I believe in little to no television, I make sure that all schedules are followed, I encourage verbal skills by talking and reading to the children, and I try to get out of the house once a day.

I generally charge $12/hr for one, $14/hr for 2, and $15 for 3, but I am willing to negotiate to fit your budget.    My rate includes light housekeeping, generally centered on the children.

I have a resume, references, and many more details to give.  Please contact me at pwhobear@gmail.com, atyour earliest convenience.

 Thank you,

Wendy

Loving, one-on-one care in Vancouver

February 09, 2012

Frontroomdaycare1Hello and welcome to Misty's Little Ones Daycare. My name is Misty McCleary, owner/teacher at Misty's Little Ones Daycare. I strongly believe in children being in a safe, home environment during the younger years of their life while they are away from their primary caregivers. I offer just that: While parents are at work, school or out running errands, I offer a safe place with lots of love, learning and individual attention for your child. If you have multiple children, great I welcome them!

In my home, I have created a nurturing and loving environment where children are encouraged to explore, share their interests and to have their needs met. My goal in this environment, is to have it feel like home to the child, so they can feel comfortable and welcomed.

Thaliaonbikefeb2012

While I strive hard to learn about each child's comfort level, I also want to learn about their development and interests to keep them interested and engaged as well as comfortable and curious. I think it also helps the child to boost their confidence of having their needs met when the caregiver understands what those needs are.

I believe in respecting the child from birth as a whole and cuing into their needs right away. This will include using sign language from a very young age, always talking respectful to the child and parents, letting children know what's next and letting children do things for themselves.

Parent communication is essential to building a relationship and to help us better understand your child's needs. I encourage drop-ins, parent participation and ideas you may have. Please feel free to talk to me about any concerns or questions you might have anytime.

We also do a little bit of urban farming. We raise 5 chickens & do a bit of gardening in the Spring!

In-Home Child care just over the river

January 28, 2012

Hello.  I am providing care just across the river in Vancouver.  I run an in-home child care with a very small group of children.

  Kitchenset

“The e nvironment must be rich in motives which lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct his own experiences.” -Maria Montessori

Children benefit from being able to explore the environment around them inside and outside.  This includes having materials available for them to learn about, touch, explore and for it to be safe to do so.  I believe in making materials for the children to use from ordinary items at home.  This can include anything you might find in the recycle bin: bottle caps, boxes, paper, toilet paper rolls, jars etc.  While outside children should be free to learn about plants/trees, watch animals and insects and run free. This can be done by taking nature walks, exploring the backyard or simply bringing in items from nature to use for projects or simply to observe.  We also do bike riding, digging in the sand box and drawing with chalk.

Frontroomdaycare1There are many reasons why parents might need to find a provider to care for their children.  I provide a safe environment in my home with a loving and nurturing caregiver who is very patient and understanding.  I believe in respecting the child as a whole and this will include how I talk and interact with them.  For example letting children learn to feed themselves, pouring milk or juice, answering questions the child might have or just simply giving the child encouragement when trying to accomplish a goal.

I also offer respite care and was a former respite care worker with the State of Washington for families that have children with special needs.  I have experience working with children with: Autism, Down's Syndrome, ADHD/ADD, blind, deaf, non-walking/cerebral palsy, Sensory Integration, drug addiction and children that need more social interaction in general.  I also have training in several different philosophies including: Montessori, RIE and Reggio.  I try and incorporate the children's art work into our environment along with pictures of the children in play.

I also bring with me:
*Former Preschool Teacher
*Current CPR & First Aid Certification
*Montessori Training

One opening at Eco-healthy Preschool in SE

January 20, 2012

LH_PrimaryLogo-Color-Print

Little Hands Garden School is an Eco-healthy preschool located on Hawthorne @59th on the edge of Mt. Tabor.  We are a home-based program with a ratio of 2:8.  Our hours are 9-1, M-Th.

Lunch and one to two snacks (mostly organic, always homemade) are
provided daily.  Our activities include a drama, song/music circle, reading,
snack, art, outdoor play (gardening or other), dance/yoga/games,
baking, lunch, story time, and more outdoor play.  We also do field
trips on Mt. Tabor and to neighborhood parks.  We are outside all day
when the weather permits.

Our current plays are 3 Little Pigs, Billy Goats Gruff, and Abiyoyo.  You can view these on our you tube channel LHGardenSchool, or use the link below:

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8A06DF8CDB30DB6D

We believe all curriculum needs to be inquiry-based, and
is modeled upon the interests of our students.  Our schedule
changes daily as we sometimes get so involved in our projects we
forget the time...... which is kind of the goal, really.  We draw from
many pedagogical ideologies including Reggio Emilia, Waldorf and
Montessori.  At our school children are free to play, to be outside
with the chickens, bunnies, or in the garden, free to run, scream,
sing, dance, dress up, hug, read, rest, paint, glue, glitter, explore,
dig, hang from a trapeze, get dirty, get naked, and make as many
messes as they want.  The only No's are things that could hurt
yourself or others.  This is above all a place for children to be free
to explore the world as they wish.

Tuition is as follows, paid monthly:
1 day/wk $160
2 days/wk $320
3 days/wk $480
4 days/wk $600

We accept children ages 3-5.   We look for a long-term commitment when we welcome a new family, as we form a special relationship with each child and don't like to say
goodbye until Kindergarten.

For more information or to schedule a tour Call Erin Cowan, MA, ED at 503 481-5189 or email us at littlehandsgardenschool@gmail.com

Thank you!

New home day care/preschool in NW Portland - native Mandarin Chinese teacher

December 11, 2011

Untitled Document

Portland Language Art (PLA) is a new child care facility in NW Portland. It is located off Cornel Rd and NW 102nd Ave, cross street from Cedar Mill Elementary School, just outside of Forest Heights. PLA owner/operator Lillian Sun has a child care license and will open Jan 2, 2012. Lillian is a loving and caring mom, who has two boys (4 and 6). More than three years ago, when Lillian was frustrated by finding her older son a good quality preschool, she started to have this idea of having her own child care/preschool. In past three years, Lillian has visited many preschool programs, attended early childhood workshops, and done research on preschool education. The result is Portland Language Art, a new child care/preschool facility that provides children an opportunity to learn a foreign language while he/she plays in a clean, healthy, safe and creative  environment that supports learning and creativity. PLAis planning to provide multiple foreign languages in future (which helps brain development and  allows the child to develop an interest in learning another langauage). For the time being, as Lillian is native Mandarin speaker, she will provide Mandarin teaching. In doing her research on preschool teaching methods, Lillian was highly influenced by the Montessori and Reggio Emilia approaches. She has designed a program that will be Montessori based but Reggio inspired --- mixed age group, each child has own curriculum that allows the child to progress at his/her own pace, but will utilized more visual arts and music which enhance  creativity.

Licensed family child care in NW Portland taking kids 6 months - 12 yrs old

November 20, 2011

Portland Language Art (PLA) is a new child care facility in NW Portland. It is located off Cornel Rd and NW 102nd Ave, cross street from Cedar Mill Elementary School, just outside of Forest Heights. PLA owner/operator Lillian Sun just received her child care license and will open Jan 2, 2012 (can take child sooner if you need). PLA does plan to provide multiple foreign languages in future (which helps brain development and prepare child for global market). For the time being, since Lillian is native Mandarin speaker herself, she will provide Mandarin to children. In doing her research on preschool teaching methods, Lillian was highly influenced by Montessori and Reggio Emilia approach. Lillian has designed in her mind that her program will be a Montessori based but Reggio inspired preschool program --- mixed age group, each child has own curriculum that allows child progress at own pace, but will utilized more visual arts and music which helps creativity.

Affordable Portuguese immersion in home childcare:NOW ENROLLING!!

November 15, 2011

I have 2 Toddlers spot open. Drop in available M-F all ages.

Hello,
my name is Karla Normington. I am from Brasil and live in Portland since June,
2007. In the past I have worked as an assistant in a
daycare and Nanny. I have great references. These responsibilities
included:

* Supervision of infants, toddlers, and school age
children
* Planning and implementing creative activities
* Setting up play
dates
* Driving children to and from school and other activities
*
Providing a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment
* Attending to physical
and emotional needs of children
* Helping children with daily routines such
as toileting, dressing, eating, bathing and sleeping
*Cooking
healthy Brazilian/American meals
*CPR/ First AID
certification
*Food handle
*Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse
Neglect training

. After working for years as a Nanny I decided to open my in home day care that will be running for me . The day care will offer full- and part-time enrollment. . We are a full Portuguese immersion program. All meals and snacks will be included (I will provide healthy made from scratch food for the children everyday), as well a detailed curriculum outlines each week, periodic assessment of your child's development and photos to document your child's experiences away from home. The environment is safe, clean, friendly, and inviting!
There is a large indoor and outdoor play area full of toys to increase their thinking skills.
The toys I have are all educational crafts, puzzles, books, games, toys, etc. So even as the kids are playing, they are learning.
My goal is to provide a loving, happy, educational and safe environment for children. I strive to enrich each child with a love of learning, positive self-image, and a sense of creativity and imagination. I hope to create a nurturing environment to promote creativity! I try to recognize teachable moments throughout a daily schedule. I incorporate music, art, and stories in a daily routine!
The first language spoken in our day care is Portuguese. We will bring and teach Brazilian culture without losing the American. Our goal is to teach both cultures showing the differences/commonalities between the two Countries. My Mom is a Portuguese teacher in Brasil and she is sending me a lot of materials so I can use here with the kids.
Our programs balance child-initiated and activities, nutritious meals, snacks, rest time and outdoor/indoor play. Great references upon request. More info: http://asementinhadaycare.blogspot.com/2011/08/affordable-portuguese-immersion-in-home.html Thank you, Karla.

Learning for growth, one adventure at a time.

November 10, 2011

Little Adventurers Day Home is just what the name says. A new adventure everyday right here in our home. Sure we take excursions now and then to reinforce what has been learned in the day home, but there's nothing like watching the little ones put into action all those nuggets of wisdom you share with them! See for yourself!

Bubbles!Lunch anyone

Infant Learning 2
Exploration

I am a stay-at-home mom who has learned a thing or two about the little people, those wonderful gifts that are our children. I have two openings left (1 full-time, 1 part-time). We are open Monday through Friday, 7am to 6pm. Drop-off care is available for those last minute errands, medical appointments, job interviews, or if you just need a couple hours to yourself.

We play, we read, we paint, color, glue, and stick, we swing and slide, we sing and play instruments, we jump around and play dress-up and doctor, and yes, we take naps, too! All of this is done with the structure of learning something, be it how to share, how to be polite, how to show respect, what colors, letters, and shapes are, and more!

Call me at (503) 775-6577 if you or someone you know is looking for childcare that is affordable and does not adhere to the philosophy of "you get what you pay for." I work with all of my parents to ensure their children are well taken care of in their absence. I'd be happy to talk with you if you are interested.

Thanks for reading!

Fun & Artistic Daytime Nanny Available!

September 10, 2011

 Hi!

My name is Shannon and I have been working as a nanny and sitter in Portland for the past two years. Prior to this I have several years of sitting experience in Florida as well. Most of my experience has been with 1-3 year olds (toddlers are my favorite age group!), but I also have a lot of experience with infants as young as 3 months and children as old as 6. I have taken care of two to four children, as well as one-on-one care, and have worked in a childcare center.

I am currently looking for jobs that will begin soon and will continue to fit into my school schedule when classes start in a month. I will be available Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00AM until around 4:30PM, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00AM until around 1:00PM, and all day on Fridays.

I am very active and love going on trips to the park, indoor playgrounds, the library, the children's museum, children's music events, music together classes, art classes, and other activities. I have even participated in both baby and toddler swim lessons, children's yoga, and baby sign language classes - all here in Portland. I am a believer in children being actively engaged and stimulated, encouraging learning, discovery, and creativity. I love playing music, doing art projects, reading books, dancing around, and facilitating children's imagination.

I am pet-friendly, eco-friendly, have experience preparing vegan/vegetarian & organic meals, have experience with pumped milk, cloth-diaper experienced, potty-training experienced, little to no television, reading-heavy, active and get outside even on rainy days capable, and much much more!

I have been CPR certified, but do need to renew sometime in the near future. I also have a very reliable car, which I have always used to transport my toddlers, and I am very punctual. $10-$12/hr is generally what I have been paid for caring for one child, and $12-$15/hr caring for two, but I am completely willing to work around your budget. I am also more than willing to do light cooking and cleaning and laundry and have experience with all of these things at several of my previous jobs.

As for some more personal information, I am getting my BFA in Art Practices with focuses in printmaking and photography from PSU this year. I have my own photography business photographing maternity, children, weddings, portraiture, etc. as well. I enjoy music, making it and seeing it, creating art and videos, exploring nature, and being with friends. I moved to Portland two years ago from Florida and I absolutely love it here!

I have a resume and several great references that I would love to email you if you are interested, including the many families I worked with in both Florida and Portland. If you are satisfied with my qualifications I would love to interview as soon as possible, by phone or in person, and see if I would be a good fit for your family, and then have you contact my references.  You can email me at shannon@bearstringhead.com if you would like to set up an interview. Thank you for your time and consideration!

Lotus Heart Preschool Now Enrolling

September 02, 2011

Lotus Heart Preschool is a play based, Waldorf and Reggio Emilia inspired program.  We provide natural materials in a rich, nurturing environment.  Children have opportunities to work with a multitude of art materials, compose and act out stories, learn basic Spanish and Sign Language, explore light, shadow, and shape at the light table, have imaginative and dramatic play time, work in the garden, bake, and play at the park.  We sing, rhyme, share, do creative movement/yoga, and play cooperative games at our daily circle time.  We provide a daily tea time with organic snacks, children bring a lunch from home.  Our teacher, Brynn Anderson, has 16 years teaching experience in a variety of preschool settings.

Our program runs from 9-1 Monday-Friday for preschool age children 3 -5 years old. We are currently enrolling for fall and have a few spots left.  Families may choose the days of attendance and tuition is based on days/week.  Please call or email to learn more or to set up a time to visit.  We look forward to hearing from you!

Infant/Toddler nanny seeking new family in inner pdx

August 27, 2011

Are you looking for a creative, patient, caring, individual, who is not afraid to be silly, and who is not only eager to teach your child but is also eager to learn herself?   Perhaps you are seeking someone who has over 10 years of child care experience.  Well look no further.   My name is Wendy Lee and I am the person you have been looking for.

As stated I have over 10 years of experience working with children,  including raising a step son.  I am First Aid/CPR Certified and registered in the Oregon Criminal History.  I have obtained 300+ hours in Early Childhood Education.  There for I am confident that I have the experience and the qualifications that you are seeking in a caregiver.    I am a mature individual seeking a long term position.   I feel that I am more than just a babysitter as I employ fun and educational activities and ensure that all schedules are followed.   I have many references to offer, as well as many more details to give.

Please contact me at your earliest convenience, so that we might talk over some of these things further.

Thanks for your time.
