Infant/Toddler nanny seeking new family in inner pdx

January 08, 2012

Hello,

My name is Wendy and I have been working in the child care industry for the past 3.5 years, however, I have over 10 years experience caring for children, including raising a step son.  I have passed a National background check and Oregon's background check for child care workers. I am First Aid/CPR Certified and have obtained 400+ hours in Early Childhood Education. There for I am confident that I have the experience and the qualifications that you are seeking in a caregiver.

Most of my experience is with wobblers and toddlers (1-3 year olds) as this is my favorite age group.  I do however; have experience with children of all ages. I have cared for children on a one-on-one basis and in a group setting.   I am a mature individual seeking a long term part or fulltime position.

I am a very fun loving and active nanny.  I believe that children, especially babies, are learning and absorbing things all the time.  I enjoy fostering this learning and natural curiosity by stimulating them with fun and educational activities.   I also enjoy taking them on walks, setting up play dates, taking them to any classes that you might have them signed up in, and other age appropriate outings.

I am pet friend, have experience with expressed milk and cloth diapers.   When the time comes I also have experience with potty-training.   I believe in little to no television, I make sure that all schedules are followed, I encourage verbal skills by talking and reading to the children, and I try to get out of the house once a day.

I generally charge $12/hr for one, $14/hr for 2, and $15 for 3, but I am willing to negotiate to fit your budget.    My rate includes light housekeeping, generally centered on the children.

I have a resume, references, and many more details to give.  Please contact me at pwhobear@gmail.com, atyour earliest convenience.

Thank you,

Wendy

Swap Childcare with Another Parent - SE (Hawthorne)

October 23, 2011

Hi Fellow Parents!

Is anyone interested in swapping childcare with another parent in the community? Sharing childcare between our homes for 15-20 hours a week would give us both the free time that we need to do .... anything! Paid work, vacuuming without our hands full, painting or going for a run. I could drop my child off at your house for 15-20 hours a week and then, in turn, you could drop your little peanut off at my house for the same number of hours. We can find an inexpensive multi-seated stroller to share. I've got a Pack n' Play for your little one to nap in. We're smoke and pet free in case you have allergies, though your animals are just fine with us.

In addition to being a parent, I have a graduate degree, excellent character references and am certified in CPR/First-Aid. Perhaps we do a mutual background check before we get started.  And if we get really comfortable with our awesome situation, maybe we could even do a couple of overnights after a while.

I don't currently have a paid job (though I'm working on launching a nonprofit), so which hours of the week we trade are pretty flexible. My baby was born June 21st of this year, but I don't foresee any age split between our children being a problem. I only have one baby. I live in South East Portland (Hawthorne) area and would love to walk over to your house, but driving is always an option.

Anybody want to barter childcare to gain some much-needed parental free time? My baby and I would love to meet in a cafe, porch or living room to hang out and discuss the possibilities! Seems like the perfect Portland community solution to me!  :)

Please contact me at 415-350-0706 or adorseyrd@yahoo.com.

Cheers,

Angela

Childcare exchange

September 07, 2011

Hello there-

I am looking for a family who is interested in doing a childcare exchange. I have an almost two year old (23 months) and we live in the NE, right near the playground at Normandale Park. I will be starting school at the end of September and will definietly need childcare every Wednesday from 1-5pm (or a touch later when my husband is done with work). Other than that I am basically free to take care of your child at any other time during the day on weekdays. I am open to just a few hours a week or even a few days. Will work with the right family to make it a match!

I am a holisitic health practitioner and bring that into my parenting, feeding my child only nourishing, whole foods and will do the same for your child. I can provide food for my daughter when she is with you if we make different food choices. I practice attachment parenting and will care for your child simialrly. I am a former peschool and movement teacher of 2-6 year olds and also nannied for 5 years: a family of 3 girls who were 2, 7, and 9 when I met them.I can provide references.

I also do massage and would happily exchange a weekly massage for your care of my daughter on Wednesday afternoons if you don't need childcare.

Thanks!

Monica

Seeking Nanny Share

September 06, 2011

Happy family looking for a nanny share for our 2 1/2 year old son. Ideally, we would like to start a part-time nanny share with one or two other children between the ages of 2 and 3. Initially, we only need two mornings a week but are open to sharing more time. Our son loves sand, dancing, books, hiking, imaginative play, music and art. He is very verbal and more bookish than active. He prefers small quiet groups to large loud ones. In raising him we've used a child centered approach with very little TV and mostly organic food. Please email me if you think our families would be a good fit and we can find a nanny together. Rebeccab_94114@yahoo.com.

Looking for Nanny Share in SW Portland/Beaverton

Looking for a Nanny Share Family and Nanny

I am looking for a nanny share situation for my wonderful 2 yo old and 5 yo boys. I am re-entering the work force after 3 1/2 years of staying at home with my 2 children. My oldest boy will be attending kindergarten in SW Portland so the nanny/family would have to be OK with a commute to pick-up/drop-off depending on the schedule. This will be about 35 hours a week and could be in my home or another. My boys are fantastic together and LOVE science and playing/exploring outside. Looking for a flexible, nurturing, dependable nanny and loving family to share with. If you are interested please e-mail me at hahnvmd@gmail.com.

Thanks!

Infant/Toddler nanny seeking new family

August 19, 2011

Are you looking for a creative, patient, caring, individual, who is not afraid to be silly, and who is not only eager to teach your child but is also eager to learn herself?   Perhaps you are seeking someone who has over 10 years of child care experience.  Well look no further.   My name is Wendy Lee and I am the person you have been looking for.

As stated I have over 10 years of experience working with children,  including raising a step son.  I am First Aid/CPR Certified and registered in the Oregon Criminal History.  I have obtained 300+ hours in Early Childhood Education.  There for I am confident that I have the experience and the qualifications that you are seeking in a caregiver.    I am a mature individual seeking a long term position.   I feel that I am more than just a babysitter as I employ fun and educational activities and ensure that all schedules are followed.   I have many references to offer, as well as many more details to give.

Please contact me at your earliest convenience, so that we might talk over some of these things further.

Thanks for your time.

Swap Childcare With Another Parent!

July 27, 2011

Hello Fellow Parents!

Does anybody want to swap childcare with another parent in the community? Sharing childcare between our homes for 15-20 hours a week would give us all of the free time that we need to do .... Our back yard is fenced for romping. We're smoke and pet free in case you have allergies, though your animals are just fine with us.

In addition to being a parent, I was a nanny for many, many years and I have gobs of childcare experience and qualifications. I bet you do too. You and I both have clean driving records and excellent character references, so we are well qualified to help each other out. Perhaps we can take an Infant/Child CPR class together and do a mutual background check before we get started. And if we get really comfortable with our awesome situation, maybe we could even do a couple of overnights after a while.

I don't currently have a paid job (though, perhaps I will at some point), so which hours of the week we trade are pretty flexible. My baby was born March 20th of this year, but I don't foresee any age split between our children being a problem, as I have worked with a huge range of ages in the past, and have never had more than a few melt downs over tipped towers. I only have the one baby, but if you have two, that would be alright as well. I live in South East Portland (Hawthorne) and would love to walk over to your house, but driving is always an option.

Anybody want to barter childcare to gain some much-needed parental free time? My baby and I would love to meet in a cafe, porch or living room to hang out and discuss the possibilities! Seems like the perfect Portland community solution to me!  :)

Sandi (Sandra) Williams (Oulman-Williams) 5325 NE 42nd Ave

July 19, 2011

It is important for anyone looking for daycare for their children to DO THEIR Research!  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be weary of Sandi Williams (503-287-4162)  This woman "claims" to run a "small" in home daycare.  What she really runs is a disgusting mess with far too many infants/toddlers for one person to properly care for.  She is NOT licensed through the state  (Which she claims to be)  http://www.emp.state.or.us/ccd-complaints/results-detail.cfm?LIC=OF482  and has had SEVERAL DHS claims against her too.  I am extremely happy that I did my homework and went with my "gut" instinct when I initally interviewed her.

Nanny Available

May 31, 2011

Greetings!

My name is Emily and I am looking for a nanny position in the Portland area. I am 26 years old and have a degree in Liberal Arts from The Evergreen State College. I've done childcare off and on since I started when I was 16. I've held long and short-term positions and am currently looking for both long-term and on-call positons. Admittedly, it has been over a year since my last job as a nanny, when I lived and worked for a family in Spain. Since then I've been working as an Outreach Coordinator for a non-profit here in Portland.

I am interested in working with a family 20-35 hours per week, but am also open to other on-call positions. My rate is $11/hour with an additional $2/child, up to 4 children. I own a reliable and safe car, and can work flexible hours. I am looking for a family who openly communicates about childcare issues as well as supports adventures, free play, arts and crafts, and a cleanly environment. As a nanny, I am willing to prepare food for a range of diets, keep the house neat and tidy, and include kids in the process. Ideally, I'd like to work with children ages 3 and up.

A little bit more about myself: I moved to NE Portland just shy of a year ago from Seattle. I grew up in North Dakota, but moved out here to attend college. In my spare time, you'll either find me outdoors, making arts and crafts, volunteering, or organizing events (mostly musical). I am currently exploring my options for going back to school to become a teacher. I am a very positive and patient person. I am very open and interested in talking about discipline and consequences. I am very flexible in adapting to a family's style of parenting.

I have a current (adult) CPR certification, but need to renew my child certification. I can also provide solid references for anone interested. Don't hesitate to call or email of you have any questions.

We have mixed-age groups -- two Toddler Classes of up to eight children with two teachers, and our Primary classes with up to 22 children ranging from three years (or a bit younger) up through kindergarten age. In 2010-2011 we have one primary class and two toddler communities. 'We toured a total of six schools before we found the right one for our daughter. We even enrolled her in another one prior to Montessori Children's House only to pull her out because we were disappointed in our experience there. I wish that we had discovered this school sooner! It would have saved us a lot of stress.'

'The space itself is gorgeous, all new, beautiful learning areas, just what you would imagine a top notch Montessori school to look like...The location on South Waterfront is very easy to get to and from, parking is right in front of the main door and the teachers will even greet the kids at your car. We highly recommend Montessori Children’s House!'

PT Nanny/Nanny Share/PT Daycare NW Portland

April 27, 2011

My husband and I are looking for childcare options for our 8 month old son. My husband works full time from home and I work part-time out of the house and consulting work from home. Until now, we've managed to juggle our schedules, but now that he's more active it's hard to get a lot of work done at home.

I think it would be great for him to have more time around other kids, but it seems that most daycare places want a minimum of 3 days for part time care -- and of course the waitlists really put that option as more of a solution in the future.

Any mamas out there part of a nanny share or babysitting co-op? Finding a sitter/nanny is a bit overwhelming and I'm not exactly sure where to start. Advice and suggestions would be awesome! Thanks!

Infant care in SW Portland/Multnomah Village area starting in September

March 30, 2011

Hi, I will be needing full time care for my then, six month old, starting in September (right now she is three weeks).  Every place I find is either full or has a huge population of kids getting care.  I am looking for a small childcare that is eco- friendly.  Does anyone have suggestions or ideas?  I heard in-home care is preferable.  This is our first child and I am very nervous about childcare.  My husband and I are both teachers and would be willing to trade a portion of tuition for tutoring if that is helpful for someone who has older children.  I specialize in special education (high functioning autism/aspergers/emotional challenges) and my husband is a high school teacher in math, chemistry, physics, biology, and earth science. I would appreciate any ideas or suggestions.  Thank you so much and have a beautiful day!!!  Jeramie

Nanny/Nannyshare needed in SE

March 22, 2011

Hi!

I've got an 18 month old daughter I currently am home with full time.  We live in the Foster-Powell neighborhood.

I've recently gotten a job offer I'd like to take, and would love to pursue hiring a nanny or taking part in a nanny share to do so. I would need care about 20 hours a week:  Monday all day (8:30-4:15), Tuesday afternoon (11:30-4:15), Friday AM (6:30-12:30).  These are kind of funny hours and the Fridays I would definitely want in my home because my daughter will occasionally sleep past 6:30.

My daughter is a happy adventurer, curious about everything and fearless about finding out about it.  We've raised her in the attachment parenting style and are very into organic foods which we encourage her to feed herself.  We engage in creative play, we take music classes, swim lessons, and baby circus.  We enjoy sign language, playing in the garden, going on adventures to the zoo, children's museum, etc.  We love exploring!  Nap times are pretty consistent, she's just transitioned to 1 a day.  We have a sweet dog at 13 years, a tolerant cat, a big backyard, and we live across the street from Marysville Elementary (secondary back yard.)

Honestly, I'm a little nervous returning to work.  Not only have I not been employed in 4 years, but it's going to be hard to leave my little girl!  We're limited in what we can afford to pay some one with $10/hr. being the maximum.  This makes me think a nanny share is going to be the best choice for us.  Additionally, my daughter loves other kids and would benefit greatly from spending time with others.

Please contact me with any interests!

Affordable Childcare available in SE

February 07, 2011

Hello!

I am a stay at home mom to my wonderful 19 month old daughter, and a nanny to another wonderful 19 month old girl. I am looking for another child or two to join our little in home group.

I have plenty of experience working with toddlers. In the past before having my own child, I was employed at CCLC (Children’s Creative Learning Center), and before that, I was employed at Academy for kids. At both pre-schools, I was a toddler teacher. I have also been employed as a nanny for an infant into toddler years. I am CPR certified.

Our day here at my home (inner se Portland off of 35th and Gladstone) consist of reading lots of books, dancing, baking, art, climbing and running, games, puzzles, free play, water play, walks to the park, etc. My home is VERY kid friendly.

If you have any questions, please free free to email me at

Hope to hear from some of you moms or dads!!-Katelin

Eastside Family Co-op - A Parent-Run Toddler Community

February 01, 2011

EFClogotext

Hi Parents,

Eastside Family Cooperative has multiple openings for children ages 18 mos to 3 years.

We are a group of families who have come together to provide quality, part-time childcare for our children. For most of our children, Eastside Family Co-op is their first early school experience and serves as a pre-preschool.

Our children are aged 18 months to about 4 years old (when most kids move on to more traditional preschools) in one large, mixed-age classroom. Children typically start between the ages of 18 months to 2 ½ years and stay for at least one year.

We are located in inner SE Portland and operate year-round on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Families leave and join throughout the year.

Eastside Family Co-op is entirely parent-run. Each child attends three days from 9am to 1pm: two days "on her own" and one day with her "parent teacher."  (3-4 parents typically run Co-op on any given day.)  Tuition is $110/month.

We provide a network of support for parents and the chance for children to develop trusting relationships outside their immediate family. We value:

  • Each person's individuality
  • Peaceful conflict resolution
  • Collaborative decision-making
  • Daily opportunities for play, art, fresh air, music and reading
  • Fresh, organic, unprocessed foods

Eastside Family Cooperative is a non-profit corporation and a member of Parent-Child Preschools of Oregon.

For more information, please visit our web site, www.eastsidefamilycoop.org.  To apply, fill out the membership inquiry form online, and you will be contacted by Co-op Membership.

Nanny share or child care swap needed!

January 05, 2011

We are looking for a child care option beginning in February.  Ideally, we could arrange some kind of child care swap as we are available weekends and we need child care 3 days during the week (obviously we could financially compensate for that third day).

.....OR.......

We would like to find another family to go in on a nanny share with us.  We have a soon to be 4.5 month old (by February) and are looking at 3 days per week (days are flexible) from apx. 10 to 4-4:30.

A little bit about us:

  • We are both teachers (elementary and high school)
  • We live in St. Johns (NoPo)
  • We value clean, natural living with an emphasis on positive reinforcement and interactive play in regards to our daughter.  We do not believe in tv as a means to entertain, but rather trips to the library, parks, neighborhood walks, etc.
  • We are pretty progressive thinkers and would love to find another family who is direct with communication and like minded in regards to child rearing.

We do not have a nanny selected, so this post is also serving as all-call for qualified nannies as well.

We are very willing (and almost prefer) to host this nanny share at our home, but are very open to other possibilities.

~Lastly, we are thinking that an ideal match might be with a family with one older child (i.e. toddler or above) who is more independent than an infant.

We very much look forward to hearing any ideas that might work.

Thanks!

part-time mama seeking weekly childcare swap

December 14, 2010

I am a mother of a six-month old baby girl looking to set up a regular weekly childcare swap with another family or group of moms.  I am looking for someone who would be able to watch my daughter on Wednesdays from the beginning of February through the end of the school year in early June, or potentially longer.  In return, I could watch your child/ children on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, or on weekends.  We live in North Portland (St. Johns), but I work in Milwaukie, so would be interested in finding someone in N/NE or close-in SE.  I am certified in Infant and Child CPR and First Aid, and have experience with infants and toddlers, but enjoy kids of all ages. I look forward to watching your child here at my house (we’ll bake muffins, play in the garden, walk to the community center, park, playground, and library), but I would also be happy to come to your home.

A bit about our family:   I work part-time as a counselor in a high school and have plans to go back to school and become a Nurse-Midwife in the next few years.  My husband is a 6th grade teacher.   We're both from the Portland area.  We spend a lot of time playing music (guitar, banjo), cooking, going on walks, and grinning at our baby girl, who is a sweet, happy, and enthusiastic baby.  She has gotten some great social opportunities with other little ones and gets really excited to see other babies and toddlers.  She’s super cuddly and playful.

Please contact me (Rae) if you’re interested in getting together, talking about childcare possibilities, and seeing if we’re a good fit for each other.  My email is raekaigler@gmail.com.  Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you!

Spaces available in our NoPo Toddler Play Group AND Preschool Light!

October 26, 2010

Group starting soon! One space open in our 1-2 yr. old play group and two spots available in our 3-4 yr. old group (perfect for those home with family who just need a wee bit of social time with peers!).  Groups will both meet on the same day at the same time at different homes really close to each other in central NoPo.  We're looking at either Mondays or Wednesdays from 8:30sh to 12:30/1ish, with parent packed lunch time included.  Our teachers come from PSU Child and Family Studies program.  Cost depends on number of families involved, but we're hoping for something around $20-$25 per child per week (max. of five children per group).  Parents arrange pick up/drop off.   We are a group of attachmentish parenting parents who practice (emphasis on practice) art, music, home crafting, NVC, and use organic foods.  One of the homes used for the group has a large organic permaculture garden filled back yard with chickens, fish, swing, etc, across from Kenton Park.   We aim to provide additional affordable socialization opportunities for young children through play, gardening, art, music and cooking.  Please email Teresa at teresa@insightsoutside.com if either or both of these groups sound right for your child(ren)!  Thanks!

Affordable childcare while I workout?

September 14, 2010

I've recently started attending crossfit classes in the Pearl District and would love an affordable way to get childcare so I can workout more often!  I have two preschool age children - sweet, smart, great communicators and play well with others.

An imaginary "ideal" situation:  I drop my kids off at a stay-at-home mama's house who lives either near the Pearl District or on my way there from the Beaverton area.  I'm happy to bring snacks, extra toys, etc.  Maybe I come an hour+ early or stay an hour+ late so you can then have time to go for a workout or run errands while I watch all the kids?  An exchange like that would be ideal for the budget (since I'm already stretching to pay for the workouts!), but otherwise, let me know your rates.  I'd hope to do this 3x per week, but even 1x per week would help.

I'm open to ideas - thanks in advance!

Call or text 619-987-6804 - be sure to leave me your contact info!

Childcare options for 1st time mom-to-be........

September 12, 2010

Hey everyone!  We will be looking for childcare in the North Portland area probably in late March 2011.  We are on a tight budget and are open to any type of care (i.e., daycare, nanny share, , etc.).  If anyone has any suggestions that would be great.  Or if there is anyone looking to do a nanny share, we would be interested in  hearing from you.

Our situation..........We both work full time in the restaurant industry.  Luckily we have daytime hours and are probably looking at needing childcare on Monday and Tuesday from 10am - 4pm and Friday from 6:30am or 7am- 4pm.   If anyone is interested or has any suggestions, that would be great :)  Please feel free to e-mail me.  Thanks :)

Looking to start a Sellwood childcare swap

September 07, 2010

I am a very part-time work from home mother to an 18 month old son.  We, along with my husband, just moved to the area a month ago.  We live on a strict, minimalist budget and are brainstorming cheap childcare options.

Something that makes sense to us is a childcare swap, where like-minded parents could trade "points" for flexible, free childcare.

Here is our vision: Child-care provided by like-minded families on an equal exchange basis. This would allow us to have a community of parents to call upon when we need to go alone to an appointment, get some work done, or go out for a date night. [No overnights; the idea is for flexible, short-term child care needs]  No money is exchanged, but sitters would receive a certain amount of points (per child, per hour) that they could then "trade in" for child care in the future.  This would keep it balanced and fair, so that no one family is using lots of childcare without reciprocating.  Any age of child would be acceptable, even infants.

We'd like to meet with other families who are interested in something like this.  We could host a gathering to meet up and see if it seems like a good fit.  We could then form a google group or yahoo group so that we could contact one another for childcare needs as well as organize playdates if so desired.   If you are interested, email me at { kjb1020 at gmail dot com }  and tell me a little bit about your family and parenting style.

About my family: Mama, Papa, toddler (18 months) young family who live in the Sellwood area. We just moved from Ohio in August 2010.  Like to go on walks, read books, do creative activities (color, dance, etc), and visit science museums, zoo, playgrounds.  Vegetarian, mostly-organic diet; simple lifestyle; spiritually minded; attachment parenting style.  We do some baby signs with our son.  We emphasize positive discipline and like to encourage our son's creativity and curiosity.  Papa works full time as a manager for a coffee shop, and Mama is a very part time online business researcher and social media consultant.  Non-smoking, very clean home, no pets.  Small home in very safe neighborhood.  I am CPR certified (just renewed in May 2010).  I have experience as a babysitter, mother, and dance instructor for ages 3-13. Our parenting is very child-driven, i.e. we emphasize exploration instead of flash cards.  Our son is playful, sweet, and mild-tempered.

Again, please email if interested and we can start organizing something!

Interested in starting a NoPo play school?

September 03, 2010

We'd like to start two!  We have a three year old and a 15 mth old and we are interested in starting a play group/school for each with a couple of other families.   Do you have a oneish year old?  Do you have a threeish year old (having both not required). We conceptualize a one day per week meeting...in my home and perhaps one other parent home (rotating), from 8:30 amish to 12:30am ish (8-12 or 9-1...we're flexible at this point).  We'd like to hire a teacher together with you.  We're considering each family pays $20ish per day to hire a PSU Child and Family Studies student?  Parents arrange pick up/drop off.  Lunch included and provided by parents (can rotate).  These are our thoughts/ideas.  What are yours?  We are attachmentish parenting parents who practice art, music, home crafting, NVC, use organic foods, have a large organic permaculture garden filled back yard with chickens, fish, swing, etc, across from Kenton Park and are looking for additional socialization opportunities for both of our children.  Please email Teresa at teresa@insightsoutside.com.  Thanks!

Toddler, preschool, homeschool, before/ aftercare and date night space!

August 23, 2010

Urban Roots Playschool is a new in-home, child-centered playschool in the Montavilla neighborhood, easily accessible via Trimet and freeway from both NE and SE Portland, as well as Vancouver and the West Side. We offer a variety of services for children ages 1-12, and their families, focused on the child as an individual. Our loosely structured, rhythm-based flexible curriculum focuses on growing and cooking food, creating art, active play and becoming responsible citizens of our children's "tribe". Though we are most influenced by Waldorf and Montessori philosophies, our community definitely has the personality of both the teachers and the "students".

Our "playschool" has 2 age groups: ages 1-4 (preschool), and 5-10 (homeschool). Each group is held Monday-Thursday 9-2, or 12-5 (overlap for lunch and freeplay). Early and late starts are both available. Both groups will engage in individual and group projects that "teach" math, science, literacy, art, music, language, and physical education, with long, gentle transitions and overlap between activities, creating a relaxing and fun atmosphere free of pressure to "perform". Meals and snacks are generally vegetarian, organic and gluten-free, and are usually made onsite (often by the children).

Friday is "playcare" day. There will be no "curriculum" but the general rhythm will be the same.

Before and afterschool care, transport from local schools, and weekend care offered as available.

"Playnights" are offered on Friday evenings, and consist of dinner, a "dance party", outdoor and indoor activities.

We are flexible on start and end times, as long as the children arrive during a "transition" time, so that no one is arriving or leaving without finishing a project, enjoying the fruits of their labor, or starting behind the other children. Make no mistake, this is our home, NOT a large center. However, we have the same (if not more) experience, expertise, love and commitment of a "traditional" school.

Our rates are as follows. We DO offer partial scholarships, sibling discounts, full-time discounts when possible, and also are willing to accept DHS or other supplemental pay.

1/2 day "school" program : $25 per day
full day 8-6 : $45 per day
hourly rates beginning at $6
date night 5-10:30 $25 per child (Add $15 for overnight up till 10am).

please check www.urbanrootsplayschool.com for more info, or call 503-683-2552

Childcare swap in NE Portland: looking for other families!

August 08, 2010

Hello there,

If you only work part-time, it often doesn't make financial sense to hire childcare. Yet sometimes you need a little alone time. So wouldn't it be nice to find free childcare?

We are a family in NE Portland interested in setting up an on-going childcare swap situation with like-minded local parents.

What we envision: Child-care provided by each other on an equal exchange basis. This would allow us to have a community of parents to call upon when we need to go alone to an appointment, yoga class, or a date night. No money is exchanged, just the simple "you owe me one" idea. (A more detailed exchange system can be arranged if that's what everyone agrees upon...i.e. token system that some people find to work nicely.) This would be open for all-aged kiddos (infants included).

The specific details can be worked out among the families that are interested in participating, but please only reply if you are able to realistically function in a community like this. If you feel uncomfortable watching more than one kiddo at a time, this is not for you. If you have a busy-bee full-time schedule without any availability to provide childcare for others involved in the swap, this is not for you. I imagine that this will work best with families who have somewhat flexible schedules. Open and honest communication will be helpful. Also, we're hoping to keep our community some-what localized as to avoid big commutes. Families in NE neighborhoods, North Portland, and inner-SE are preferable for our community.

If you are interested in learning more and meeting others who are searching for something similar, please send me an email telling me a little more about your family. (cijn09 at gmail.com) We are planning a potluck get-together this month to meet others and talk more.

About us: Mama, Papa, baby (8 months) young hip family who live in the NE Alberta area. We like going for walks in the neighborhood (lots to see!) and making new Portland parent friends. Papa works full-time in education and Mama is a student with a flexible schedule. Non-smoking. Inside doggy (he is young, very friendly, and great with kids). Small house in safe neighborhood. Left-leaning, educated, enjoy gardening, hiking, and wine. We live minimal-impact lifestyles, with preference for organic and healthy habits.
