Don't pay for childcare...Let's SWAP!

Part-time working parents.... don't pay for childcare.  Let's share in the care of our children for free!  I am a Child Development Specialist needing care for my 3 and half month old on Mondays and Wednesdays starting in September.  In exchange, I would care for you child on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  All that... for FREE!  As an added bonus to you, we also need care for 6 hours on Fridays and would happily pay you to care for our son on this day as well.

A little about our family:

We are a two-mom family living in SE near Mt. Tabor.  We have a wonderful new son who will be three and a half months old when care begins.  I would be the caregiver for you child during the swap.  I have an extensive educational background in Child Development and 11 years of post baccalaureate professional experience providing care for children and families in a variety of settings and capacities.  My specialty is the 2-5 age range, however I am knowledgeable and skilled at caring for children both younger and older. We consider ourselves pretty moderate on most parenting issues (responding to our child's needs while also valuing independence; enjoying a full childhood while also creating safe boundaries, etc).  We would love to find another family with a similar parenting style to share in the care of our families’ children.  We cloth diaper and would be interested in you continuing that practice when you had our son.  We eat nutritious, home-cooked and home-baked foods.  Activities near our home include exploring Mount Tabor, the Belmont library, and the Montevilla Community Center.  TV is not a part of our day—engaging play and interesting activities are.  We have one cat and a very gentle dog.

SE mama in search of childcare swap...anyone interested?

Hey there SE mamas...I am interested in exploring childcare swapping in our area.  I have an 18mo. old daughter and another on the way in Sept. and am in desperate need of a few hours off per week...sound like you too?  I think it would work best with at least three of us and each of us would take the kids for 1 morning per week (maybe for 3 hours?), that would give us each 2 mornings off.  Ideally doing crafts, going on walks and reading stories with maybe a snack in there somewhere?  This is just a rough idea from the other groups I've read about, so I'm open to other ideas too.  I live off Hawthorne and would prefer close-in SE...let me know if you're interested and we can get into specifics then! Need a babysitter in May and June and possibly beyond

I'm looking for someone to provide very part-time childcare for a totally-brand-new baby in May and early June (though the time period could expand if I end up getting a job this summer). As I need the baby-free time for doing homework, the caregiver would be responsible just for holding and entertaining the baby in my apartment (or taking it for a walk in the neighborhood) while I'm there. Because I'll be close at hand, I don't need the caregiver to be an expert, experienced baby whisperer (though that's always nice) - just a nice person with patience and a sense of humor.

I'm very flexible about the logistics - I'm open to babysitting swapping, nannyshares, babysitting, whatever works! My main point of inflexibility is that I have no car, so you'd have to get yourself here (Sellwood). I think I'll need about 4-8 hours of care a week, preferably on weekdays, but the specific timeslots are flexible.

Seeking nannyshare/babysitting swap/babysitting or... something... for an infant, beginning in May

I'm looking for some kind of part-time childcare arrangement for at least May of 09. I'll be in school when my second kid is born (sometime around the end of April), and I will need part-time care on weekdays and/or weekends in the daytime, probably to the tune of 5-10 hours a week for May and early June, possibly beyond. I won't be wanting to be away from him/her for long, and I will need the time mostly to do homework, so I expect that the work will be in 2-hour shifts, usually with me close by, and will be pretty flexible in scheduling. Inner SE pre-Preschool swap/playgroup

I am a mama of a currently 8 month old boy.  I need some time to write a dissertation and baby needs some playmates.  I've been looking around for childcare, but haven't found the ideal situation.  So, I've decided I need to describe my perfect situation and see if others are interested.

An ideal childcare/playgroup swap for me would look like:

• 3 other families for 4 children total
• Morning swap of 3.5 hours --- 9 to 12:30ish?
• Each family takes one day Monday through Thursday
• Children currently in the 7-24 month range
• We all live nearby... I'm thinking South of I-84 to Powell, West of Mt Tabor to the River?
• During our day on, we
  
  • provide a high quality (I'd prefer organic) mid morning snack and lunch - obviously milk for those still nursing would be provided by the babe's family
  • facilitate both structured (maybe singing and craft for 20 minutes each) and unstructured play time
  • get outside if it isn't raining!
• Start the last week of August with parent/child play dates and move to the swap the first week of September

Toddler Play Group in NE Portland

A couple of us mamas are starting a play group in NE Portland and we're looking for a few more kids to participate.  The group is for toddlers aged 18-24 months (with a little wiggle room on either side).  The group will be supervised by a play group teacher, who has a great deal of previous experience working with young children.  The group will consist of a lot of free play, with some story-reading, singing, outdoor play, art, music and other semi-structured activities. 

The group will:

• include only 4 children
• be 4 hours long
• be held twice a week (although once a week participation is ok if it's your preference),
  cost $5/hour/child. 
• The groups are hosted by 2 of the families who are participating, and parents do not attend the group (Yeah!  Free time for mama and/or papa!).

Inner SE Childcare/Childswap/Advice Needed

As an Urbanpapa, I am coming to you to find childcare or some advice:

My wife and I are looking for some at-home or out-of-home childcare for our two girls (2.25 and 4.25 years old) in inner SE.

The problem is that the hours we need are kind of odd:  We need care from 11-ish to 2-ish Tue, Wed and Thu. We're flexible with the hours and even the days, but we need the care to be around lunchtime in general.

We're looking for a childcare swap, drop-in, at-home, sitters or any suggestions.

We both work part-time so we haven't had to do any daycare yet for the ladies, but I need to work a little bit more, so here I am.

SE Childcare Swap!

Hi! I'm looking for a few other families to join our childcare swap. Our last swap was wonderful but just came to a close as one mama was traveling across town and it got to be a bit too much. So re-group we must!! We mamas have to come together to give each other a break! Of course the kids love it too.

So far, we have one lively girl who is two and one sweet boy who is almost two. We'd welcome kids ranging from infants to 4 year olds to add some variety to our lil gang. Ideally, we would have a total of four kids so that each mama could have one morning on and three mornings off.

The way we worked it before was each mama took the kids for 3 or 4 hours once a week. Each day the kids would get yummy snacks, do arts and crafts, go on walks, and so on while their mamas did yoga, shopped, breathed, meditated, showered, etc (sounds good, eh?) We all are typical pdx mamas- mostly organic but flexible.  Since summer is coming up, many of us will have visitors and weeks away, but lets try to make it work nonetheless! My husband and are are looking for some sort of coop daycare/babysitting around or area.  I work full time and my husband goes to school a few days a week so we are going to need someone or someones to watch our little noodle while we are away.  I'm so scared of day cares with lots of kids.  Plus we strive for non-toxic and natural alternatives so having her go somewhere not like that is scary too.  My hope is to find a group of mama/papa who would like to trade watching the little ones when needed.  A few times a week for a few hours or so.  We are absolutely willing to volunteer our time watching your babies as well.  I would rather have an urban mama watch our little girl vs. enrolling her in a daycare.

NE Childcare Swap

I am looking for a childcare swap situation in NE Portland. I have a 27-month-old daughter who could use some socializing, and my husband and I could use a break from her once in a while! I'd love to find someone not too far away (we live in the Vernon neighborhood) who has a kid aged more or less between 2 and 4 and who's looking to swap maybe 4 hours a week (more or less would be fine, too), on pretty much any time or day. (We're open to swapping with a family with two kids, too, as long as no babies are involved!)

The kid is reasonably well-behaved with other kids, not hyper, and not potty-trained. She really likes roleplaying  imaginary scenarios and other alarmingly traditionally girly activities like playing with a dollhouse, but she likes a good romp, too. We, the parents, are not hyper, have no offensive, dangerous, or illegal habits, don't have much money, don't have a car, and have a rented apartment rather than a house. We're pretty good at sniffing out free kid activities, and have under our collective belt the experience of a longterm childcare swap that worked out really well. We'd love to have a new one! Part-Time Care

I moved here from New Jersey several months ago, and this website makes me feel connected with the mothers of our community...something I have never experienced. As a single mama of a 16-month old, energetic, and fun boy, I'm in need of childcare on Sundays, from 9-6 p.m and possibly on Mondays, from 5-10. This is the first time I've ever needed a sitter, outside of family or friends, so I'm interested in several ideas, including childcare trade or nanny sharing.
