Looking for infant care in Beaverton/Tigard area

August 28, 2012

Hi,

I am looking for a childcare spot for my infant boy (due in late September) beginning in mid-December when I plan to return to work full time. He will be 3 months old. I work in Tigard and my husband works in Beaverton so we would like to find childcare close to our jobs (even though we are NoPo residents). I'm open to a variety of settings, including center, in-home or nanny-share. My main priority is consistency of caregivers (not a lot of staff turnover such as in a busy center) and affordability. I would appreciate a setting with support for breastfeeding and willingness to work with me on cloth diapering. Any openings or referrals from other mamas/parents would be excellent! This would be for 4-5 days per week. Contact me at:

Experienced Nanny Available Late 2012-Early 2013

August 10, 2012

GREAT NANNY, JUST FOR YOU!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Jillian M. Currently I am involved in a Nanny-Share with two infants, ages 7 months and 9 months. My contract ends at the end of the year when both children will be placed in local Montessori programs. I am looking for a position to start December-February-ish, the official start date is a bit flexiable. I am comfortable doing either another nanny-share, or working for one family. I am comfortable working with up to 3 infants, depending on their ages, 4 toddlers, or 5 children in total but this would really depend on the overall dynamic of the situation. I am also comfortable doing care in your home, or mine. Ideally the position would provide at least 36 hours a week.

Here's a little information about me. I have an immense amount of experience with children. I started my babysitting career at 12 years old, after I received my Oregon babysitters training, and CPR certification. Since then, I have had experience in taking care of about 25 different children, usually two or more at a time (five max), in in-home settings. My experience with children ranges from newborns to 13-year-olds. About half of my clientele has been parents of children diagnosed with Autism. I have also worked and volunteered with a school that caters to meeting the needs of children diagnosed with Autism . My tasks at the school included building a summer reading program for some of the more advanced students. I directed the students during "signing times" videos (videos that teach the children sign language). I did teacher aide duties in the classrooms working extensively with the pre-schoolers, and in the occupational therapy room. In addition to this experience, I was also a camp counselor in high-school at Camp Howard outdoor school for 2 seasons.

I love to do activities with children. I am not the type of care provider who will sit children in front of the TV and do my own thing. Just to be clear, I rather children have no screen time during my time with them. I prefer for children to have fun. If the parent permits, I like to take them on outings to the park, or maybe a day to the zoo, children's museum, library, or swimming pool depending on the child's interest. I love doing art projects, or fun cooking activities, playing board games, and will even happily partake in dress up or tea parties. As well as making sure the children enjoy the time we spend together, I firmly believe in education. I like to come up with developmentally appropriate activities that stimulate the intellectual growth of each child. For school aged children I come in great handy for help with homework.

I am a student and am working towards a degree in early childhood education. I take courses through the local community college's online program, when I transfer next year I will continue primarily with online education. I am familiar with many learning/parenting styles including Montessori, Waldorf, Attachment Parenting, and Positive Redirection. What I am unfamiliar with, I am willing to learn. My time spent with your children is based on your needs, their needs, and your parenting beliefs. I am very flexiable when it comes to this as I understand it is your child and I enjoy learning new styles.

I have a license, car insurance, and a car for transporting needs. In addition, I know basic Spanish, and am furthering my skills incase you are interested in your child learning a second language.

I would ideally like a position that offers at least a 1 year contract.

Best,
Jillian

Amazing Au Pairs Available

July 20, 2012

Hey mamas,

We have two Au Pairs who are currently in the US but here as Au Pairs that are looking to continue with a host family.

There are many more amazing Au Pairs available as well. If you have a certain language or culture you want your Au Pair to come from let me know and I can send you a few that may work for you.

Right now the two I am trying to find host families for in Portland are Irina and Stacey.

StaceyLM

Stacey is about to turn 19 years old, has three younger brothers ages, 17, 13 & 1 and is from North Lakes, Australia.  Stacey had her own car in Australia and has been driving while participating in the au pair program.

Stacey’s childcare experience includes working in a school setting with children between the ages of 3 months and 12 years old.  She also provided care for a brother and sister aged 5.  She also provided care for her youngest brother.

IrinaIJ

Irina is 19 years old, has an older brother and is from Disentis, Switzerland.  In addition to fluent German and fluent and Rhaeto-Romance Irina speaks strong English as well as basic French.

Irina’s childcare experience includes caring for three siblings over the course of two years.  They were 10, 9 and 5 when Irina started caring for them.  She also cared for a little girl from the time was 4 until she was 6.

Irina’s hobbies include snowboarding, tennis, volleyball and swimming.  She also plays piano and took singing lessons when she was younger.

Stacey and Irina are participating in the State Department Au Pair program. The State Department created the program in 1987 as a childcare option and cultural exchange experience for American families. We have been participating in the program since 1989 and have placed over 80,000 au pairs with American Families. Please contact me for more information about either Au Pair or the au pair program.

A little about me, I am a local mom here in pdx and I am passionate about attachment parenting, the environment and creativity. I work with an amazing Au Pair program and I believe it fits well with so many Portland families. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or are interested or pass my name and info along! Cheers!

Experienced Caregiver Offering Babysitting

May 14, 2012

Hi, everyone!  I'm expecting my first child in September, and would like to try to save up some money for the first six weeks of baby's life.  So I'm offering occasional babysitting in order to supplement the income I already earn from working.  I currently work at a couple childcare centers, but neither of them full-time, so maternity leave is not a benefit I would receive.

I have experience helping friends and family with their children from ages birth to 6 (for about 8 years, combined).  I also have been working for licensed childcare centers for about four years, combined.  That has been with ages 0 - 5 years.

I have CPR/First Aid certification, Food Handler's card, and some Domestic Violence Advocacy Training.  I also am registered in the Oregon Registry.

My rate for babysitting would be $10 an hour, and I'm comfortable with up to three kids at a time.

If you're interested and need a caregiver, I'd be more than happy to talk further and answer any questions, provide references, etc.  Thanks, everybody!  Have a nice day!

Common Au Pair Myths by USAuPair

May 08, 2012

Au pair with boy in yard

Before discussing common myths, below is a brief explanation about au pairs.

Au pairs are a child care alternative for families who want:

  • In-home child care
  • Bi-lingual child care
  • Flexible child care
  • Quality child care
  • Intercultural child care
  • Affordable child care

Au pairs are young adults from foreign countries participating in a cultural exchange program. They live with American host families for one year or longer.  In exchange for room, board and a weekly wage of $195.75, au pairs provide up to 45 hours of flexible child care weekly, up to 10 hours daily.  Agency program fees cover screening, travel fare to the U.S., medical insurance for one year, background checks, au pair attendance at 3.5 day workshop on child development and safety, and much more.

Common Myths

  1. Au Pairs don't speak English - Au pairs must have a conversational level of English. USAuPair au pairs take an English exam and score at a pre-intermediate level.  USAuPair measures grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension and written expression.  Au pairs may need assistance with verbal comprehension.
  2. We lose our privacy - Au pairs take classes, make friends and develop a healthy social network.  As one experienced family once said, "Au pairs are not peeking around corners watching you. When off duty, they are engaged with their friends and activities."
  3. Au pairs need a private bathroom - Au pairs may share a bathroom.
  4. All au pairs smoke - Not all au pairs smoke.  USAuPair au pairs sign a no-smoking contract.
  5. Au pairs are expensive - At an average weekly cost between $310 to $320 per family, not per child, au pairs are an affordable child care alternative.  This average weekly cost includes USAuPair's program fee.
  6. Au pairs don't drive - USAuPair au pairs have a minimum of six months driving experience. Driving varies greatly among countries.  Individual driving habits vary greatly among au pairs - from extreme overconfidence to extreme careful.
  7. Au pairs want to party, not care for children - Young adults need a healthy social life. USAuPair's Au Pair Code of Conduct establishes au pair behavior guidelines.  USAuPair's Handbook and Guide covers many topics and helpful tips for families and au pairs.
  8. Families who rent cannot have au pairs - Families who rent may host au pairs.  However, au pairs must have a private bedroom.
  9. Housekeeping is not allowed - Au pairs may perform light housekeeping tasks related to the children in their care.  This includes laundering childrens clothes, tidying their rooms, cleaning up spills, preparing their meals, changing their bed linens, grocery shopping.
  10. Single parents cannot host au pairs - Sngle parent families may host au pairs.

The au pair program is an enriching cultural exchange program for families and au pairs.  Au pairs learn about American culture by living with an American host family.  Host family children learn about other countries, cultures and languages.   Sshuttle

USAuPair au pairs arrive in Portland for their 3.5 day workshop.  Portland area families pick up their au pairs at a local hotel upon workshop completion.

Infant/Toddler nanny seeking new family in inner pdx

Hello future families, My name is Wendy and I have been working in the child care industry for the past 4 years. I am a compassionate, patient, hard working, individual seeking a laid back, loving, and friendly family to work for. I have passed a National background check and Oregon’s background check for child care workers. I am CPR/First Aid certified, have some basic knowledge of ASL (American Sign Language), and have obtained 400+ hours in Early Childhood Education. There for I am confident that I have the experience and the qualifications that you are seeking in a caregiver. I have been working in the child care industry for the past 4 years; however, I have over 10 years experience caring for children, including raising a step son. Most of my experience is with wobblers and toddlers (1-3 year olds) as this is my favorite age group. I do however; have experience with children of all ages. I have cared for children on a one-on-one basis and in a group setting. I am a mature individual seeking a long term position; whether it is occasional, part-time, or a fulltime position. I am a very fun loving and active nanny. I believe that children, especially babies, are learning and absorbing things all the time. I enjoy fostering this learning and natural curiosity by stimulating them with fun and educational activities. I enjoy taking them on walks, setting up play dates, taking them to any classes that you might have them signed up in, and other age appropriate outings. I am pet friendly, have experience with expressed milk and cloth diapers. When the time comes I also have experience with potty-training. I believe in little to no television, I make sure that all schedules are followed, (within reason) I encourage verbal skills by talking and reading to the children, and I try to get out of the house at least once a day. My rate generally starts at $12/hr and goes up from there (dependent on job duties and number of children in care). However, I am flexible and willing to negotiate. I have a resume, references, and many more details to give. Please contact me at pwhobear@gmail.com, at your earliest convenience. Thank you, Wendy

I generally charge $12/hr for one, $14/hr for 2, and $15 for 3, but I am willing to negotiate to fit your budget.    My rate includes light housekeeping, generally centered on the children.

I have a resume, references, and many more details to give.  Please contact me at pwhobear@gmail.com, atyour earliest convenience.

Fun, Creative Nanny for the New Year!

December 20, 2011

I am a Nanny that will be available in early January. I have letters of recommendation upon request and a resume as well. I have years of experience with children from my background being a counselor and a jr. counselor at YMCA day camp and week-long camps. I was a first year mentor at my university in Ashland, where I mentored and provided resources to first year college students. I was also an advocate at the SOU Queer Resource Center.  I have been trained in first aid, I have my food handlers card, and a valid OR drivers license.

My experience doesnt stop there as I have experiences watching and caring for my good friends' children. I have baby sat infants to teenagers and I know how to balance what children need with what they want. I am extremely trustworthy and a very loyal person, especially to the families I work for. Once I have sat for a family they want to keep me for years.

I can cook light, healthy, and especially balanced meals. I can make snacks and have arts and crafts time and even mix play time and learning time together! Learning and laughing I find are often one in the same.

I can guarantee you will be satisfied with my energy towards children. Baby sitting in Ashland, OR, taught me so much about patience and sending a child on their own journey through the world. I try to teach your child self love and self esteem building among many other things.

I am going to school for Anthropology (cultural) and Art currently. I have experience being an English tutor and Math tutor as well as knowing basic French and I am learning ASL. Along with my academic accomplishments I am skilled in housekeeping, cooking, hair styling/cutting/dying, makeup design, photography, and music. When I graduate with my degree in Anthropology I plan on traveling and studying the dynamics of families in all cultures. The relationships between families, lovers, and children is what interests me the most. How people balance their lives to raise a child and teach it all about life from their perspectives.

I am available as soon as Friday December 6th, 2012.

When contacted I can email my resume and provide signed letters of recommendation in person. My name is Cassandra and I look forward to meeting you and your family!

Experienced childcare provider looking for a position. Would prefer full-time but willing to consider part-time positions or on-call as well. I have multiple years of experience (total of 10 years childcare experience) working with children ages 0-8. Great families for you to contact that can attest to my ability to be on-time and engaging with children of any age.

I am familiar with RIE, Reggio, well-versed in Montessori learning style as well as a bit of knowledge in attachment parenting. Comfortable with cloth diapers (assisting with diaper laundry and children's laundry as well) and feeding expressed milk as well.

I'm cpr/first aid certified, have taken the RRCAN class, am in the process of completing my food handlers certification, and am enrolled in Oregon Criminal History Registry # (for working in a childcare center). Previously background checked through DHS for 3 years, open to having background check run as well as having two through reputable childcare sites (sittercity.com and care.com). Non-smoker, valid license/insurance and reliable vehicle for transportation (5 seat car, 2 car seats or boosters and room for one older child. I may possibly be able to squeeze 2 car seats and 1 booster in back, depending on width!)

Engaging and active; I do multiple activities with children from sensory play (shaving cream, paint, play dough, etc.) to arts and crafts with older children. Familiar with assisting in school-aged learning, assisting with writing/reading, spelling, abc's, 123's, colors, shapes, etc. Primary focus working with children ages 0-6.

I can and will take your children on outings if you would like, am able to assist with errand running/shopping if necessary as well as light household chores (dishes unloaded or loaded, light sweeping, child laundry/room cleanup, etc.). I love going to the park even if it's wet, and love to puddle jump! For outings I do ask you provide the payment for admission fees, etc.

Available Mon-Fri any time. I do offer weekend sitting but usually reserve it for date-night occasional sitting for families.

If you're interested, please feel free to email me with all pertinent information such as: your care needs (frequency, total hours, daily schedule if varied), a bit about your family/children (names/ages/a bit about them) and what you are expecting to pay.

My hourly rate for locations within 15 miles of my home is $11.50 per hour, for 2 children. Locations further from my home or with additional children are subject to increased fees, etc. I base my price on your needs, family size, as well as location and am slightly flexible with families that can provide me with stability as I can for them. :)

For inquiry/interest please email educatoralicia@gmail.com or call (971)-217-8414. If I do not answer please leave a message; I have a very active 6 year-old with high-functioning Autism and he can be quite demanding of my time. :)

The children are engaged in projects throughout the year that reflect their questions, thoughts and interests. Right now we are engaged in a study of light, as well as interesting construction projects in the building area. All the children contribute to the curriculum, and families are always welcome here!

Infant/Toddler nanny seeking new family in inner pdx

Hello UM Community!

I am currently looking for a family with children 0-3 who need a loving and caring nanny.   I have over 10 years experience caring for children, including raising a step son. I have passed a National background check and Oregon's background check for child care workers. I am First Aid/CPR Certified and have obtained 400+ hours in Early Childhood Education. There for I am confident that I have the experience and the qualifications that you are seeking in a caregiver. I am a mature individual seeking a long term position. I feel that I am more than just a babysitter as I employ fun/educational activities and take the children on fun adventures at least once a week, usually more. I also ensure that all schedules are followed. I have many references to offer, as well as many more details to give.

Please contact me at your earliest convenience, so that we might discuss this further.

Thank you,
Wendy

We have a great nanny, join she and our baby 1 or 2 days to save on day care costs.

September 18, 2011

Our inquisitive and active 7 month old is cared for by our incredibly responsible nanny 2 days a week. Our bi-lingual nanny enjoys being out with our girl, whether it is going to the park, taking walks, or going to the local museums. She also enjoys playing with her in doors and reading books. Her background includes taking care of twins from the age of 3 months so she is well equipped to handle two babies who are mobile.

We are located in the Ceder Hills area and are looking to share on Wednesdays and/or Fridays. We prefer a baby less than a year to play with our girl. Even if you are interested in one day for several hours please contact us.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
