Experienced Nanny Available PT

April 02, 2013

I am a 28 year old nanny and art student. One of my part time childcare positions is ending and I am looking for another great family to begin working with, ideally within the next 2-4 weeks. I have one other family I do regular care for on Thursdays (I also do occasional sitting and fill-ins for several other families when I'm available.) My weekday availability is M/W any time, and Tuesday until 4;30. Friday afternoons may also be a possibility, especially after Spring term ends.

I have been a nanny/childcare provider full time since 2003, but have been relied on to babysit younger siblings, family members, and neighbors since the late 1990s. I have experience caring for children ages 0-13. I've worked in preschool and in-home childcare settings and was a live-in nanny for 2 years in Baltimore. I am comfortable caring for multiple children of same and varying ages including infants, toddlers, and school age children.

PT Nanny/Babysitter Currently Available in NE Portland

February 12, 2013

My name is Cole Jon Roy Doig and I’m writing this posting to introduce myself to the Urban Mama’s community and offer up my services as a part time childcare provider here in the Portland area. I have worked with hundreds of children all throughout Portland ever since I moved here four and a half years ago to finish my undergraduate degree. During my last few quarters at school I volunteered as a teacher for the A.K.A. Science program at Sabin Elementary School in N.E. Portland and also helped with their homework-help club whenever needed. At this time I also began working at ChildRoots Center for Young Children. Throughout the years there, I have worked as a classroom aide, chef, primary care provider, all-around handy man and really just about every other role imaginable at a childcare facility! By working at both their main-center and also the satellite schools they have opened in the last two years, I’ve gained extensive experience with a wide age-range and learned the techniques and language necessary to provide developmentally appropriate care to infants, toddlers and preschool kiddos. I have a particular knack for working with toddler aged children. The amount of language development and awe that goes with being a wobler is pretty fun to witness and engage. I’ve also been lucky enough to share my previous experience studying Puppetry at The Evergreen State College where I completed my B.A. and acquired all the prerequisite credits necessary to gain a teaching certification in elementary education. ChildRoots hosts several seasonal community events throughout the year and at the last few Winter-fares I’ve had the pleasure of writing/performing several highly praised and unconventional puppet shows for the children and families at the center. Many families from the center have in fact contacted me asking for me to prepare puppet shows for birthday parties and other events.

Recommending my wonderful nanny for a new family

February 06, 2013

I want to recommend my wonderful nanny, Katie Maddox, for a new position, now that all of my kids are in school and I am home full-time.  Our family has known Katie for 10 years, and she has babysat my three children regularly.  In 2012 she helped me to have the time to finish my PhD dissertation by picking up my kids from school, taking them to their activities, and running errands and doing housework.  Katie is a loving, generous, energetic, and enthusiastic person who adores children and is gifted with all ages.  She is creative and experienced, and is full of ideas and projects that appeal to little ones.  She would be a fabulous nanny for a baby or several young children.  Her email is Katielmaddox@gmail.com.  I will happily speak with you if you contact her and are interesting in hiring her.  Thank you!! PT Nanny in NW Portland

February 02, 2013

Hi there. We are looking for a PT Nanny for our 2 little girls, ages 5 and almost 3. Those with the ability to play dinosaurs and barbies, color, paint nails, and read the same book multiple times are strongly encouraged to apply :) Fine Print: We are also looking for someone who is mature, responsible, has previous childcare experience with similar ages, safe car and clean driving record, and CPR certified.

We are a professional couple and I work as a graphic designer on a freelance basis. Hours we definitely need are: Wed afternoons (12:45-4) and Fri mornings (9:30-1:30). If you have additional availability, that would be great as I frequently have a need for more hours as my workload fluctuates.

We live just up the hill from the NW 23rd area, right next to a great community center with a large park, playground and preschool. Our girls attend school there and you will need to pickup (on foot) on one day. Our girls also love to go to the zoo, children's museum, etc.

We are also looking for someone who is comfortable pitching in around the house (unloading dishwasher, folding clothes) as time allows. And we have a very slow, but sweet 13 year old lab who occassionaly likes to walk across the street to the park with the girls.

Please contact me if you might be interested.

Thanks so much!

Best way to find infant care options in/near SE?

January 27, 2013

Hi UrbanMamas!

We moved to Portland recently for my husband's job, and there must be something in the water, because we're already expecting our first child - a baby boy - in June 2013!

As per instructions from almost everyone I know, we're already starting to look into infant care options for when I go back to work full time in September 2013.  We've gotten a few recommendations from my still measly social networks here but mainly we're relying on internet research which seems to be turning up the same few options: ChildRoots, Creative Minds, Grandma's Place, Belmont Academy, CCLC, the OHSU CCLC (we're looking in/near SE).  Or find a nanny.

I figure this can't be all that's out there or 90% of the babies in SE Portland wouldn't have a place to go.  My prenatal yoga instructor says many places just don't have websites.  Does anyone have ideas - specific places or lists of places?  A nanny or nanny share would also be an option.  I work from home and have a fairly flexible schedule, so I don't necessarily need a full-time, 9-6 deal.  On the other hand I've been told not to expect to get any work done if I'm home with the baby, even if there's a nanny there too.  And I do travel for work from time to time, and my husband has VERY long and VERY inflexible hours (he's a resident at OHSU).

Would love to hear from anyone with experience or ideas!  Places you or your friends have sent your babies, lists you've received, other networks you think I should tap into?  Mamas who work from home, any creative ways you've made it work?  Nanny+coworking space?  Would love to hear any and all input!

Thanks SO much,

Beth Stucky (bethstucky1@gmail.com) - that's a number 1 in my email address

I have a BA in education, and many years experience working with children and youth of all ages! I have worked for several elementary schools, summer camps, and youth outreach programs. My past experiences include working as a substitute kindergarten and pre-school teacher, running a before-an-after school program, teaching environmental education, and being a youth advocate at domestic violence shelter.

In particular, I am passionate about the arts and outdoor education. I love music, dancing, exploring, crafting, cooking, playing outside, making stuff. Nanny Share in Sellwood for Toddler-age; full or part-time.

January 20, 2013

We have a wonderful nanny for our 21 month old. She is kind, caring, interactive, playful, and professional--she even went to NW Nannies Institute so has professional training and her first aid and cpr certifications. She has been working with our family since Spring 2012 and we are extremely happy with her.  She has experience caring for multiples at both our home and elsewhere.

We are now looking to find a family to "nanny share" with--ideally we'll find a family with a child close in age to 20 months so the kids can become playmates and learn from one another.

The schedule: Currently our nanny works Tuesday through Friday from 8:45 AM to 4:45 PM. We are flexible on hours though and if you need care on Monday, the nanny is availale but it just wouldn't be a nanny share day (since we have Grandparents doing care that day). We are open to full time or part-time nanny share.

The location:  Our preference is to have the nanny share happen at our home because that is what works best for our schedules and the fact that we are a one-car family, but we would be open to discussing other options if someone lived close to us.  We are located on SE 15th a few blocks south of Tacoma--walkable to Sellwood Park, the Community Center, the library, New Seasons and it is a great place for the kids to have some activities outside of the house regularly without having to drive somewhere.

We have a separate room in the house where your child can sleep in a pack and play or in a crib which we could provide if it is regularly at our house.

When nanny share is at our house, we are happy to provide 100% vegan, healthy, mostly organic meals for both kiddos.

The rate: $8/hour per family.  (We do also pay taxes on top of this which we can help you with)

About us: We have our sweet 21 month old girl, 3 rescue chickens and a 60 lb dog named Meg who mostly keeps to herself. We make efforts to be green--from eating a vegan diet to using cloth diapers and natural products. My husband is a teacher and I work in renewable energy.

Please get in touch if you are interested in discussing more! amandamortlock [@] gmail.com.

Seeking a part-time nanny in SE Portland

We are a working couple seeking a nanny who is available to help care for our 2 children in our home in SE Portland. We need someone who is available regularly on Mondays from 2-6, and occasionally in the evenings. I work from home, as a freelance editor and writer, and my husband is the office manager of a CPA firm downtown.

Our son, Teddy, is nearly 2 years old. He consistently naps from 1:30-3:30, sometimes later. Our daughter, Elliot, is 2.5 months old and does not yet have a consistent nap schedule, though she does sleep for some portion of the afternoon. We need someone who would be comfortable watching both kids if they are both awake, and who is willing to help out with light housework (ironing, dishes, vacuuming and dusting, some dinner prep, etc) if they are both sleeping. The ideal candidate will have experience with both infants and toddlers, and knowledge (or the willingness to learn) baby sign language. We are looking for someone who can start by mid-February or sooner, and commit to the position through mid-July.

We live within walking distance of the Mt. Scott Community Center, the Woodstock Elementary playground, and the Woodstock public library.

If you are interested, please send us an email detailing your experience and your hourly rate. A background check and at least 3 professional references will be required.

~Terrific Part Time/ Full Time Nanny Open at the end of the Month!~

January 06, 2013

GREAT NANNY, JUST FOR YOU!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Jillian M. Currently I am looking for a new position as a Nanny. I was involved in a Nanny-share for almost the duration of the year but as the contract term ended and the children turned 1 they were placed in Montessori. I am comfortable doing either another nanny-share, or working for one family. I am comfortable working with up to 3 infants, depending on their ages, 4 toddlers, or 5 children in total but this would really depend on the overall dynamic of the situation. I am also comfortable doing care in your home, or mine. Ideally the position would provide at least 36 hours a week, but this is also flexable as I explore my options.

Here's a little information about me. I have an immense amount of experience with children. I started my babysitting career at 12 years old, after I received my Oregon babysitters training, and CPR certification. Since then, I have had experience in taking care of about 25 different children, usually two or more at a time (five max), in in-home settings. My experience with children ranges from newborns to 13-year-olds. About half of my clientele has been parents of children diagnosed with Autism. I have also worked and volunteered with a school that caters to meeting the needs of children diagnosed with Autism . My tasks at the school included building a summer reading program for some of the more advanced students. I directed the students during "signing times" videos (videos that teach the children sign language). I did teacher aide duties in the classrooms working extensively with the pre-schoolers, and in the occupational therapy room. In addition to this experience, I was also a camp counselor in high-school at Camp Howard outdoor school for 2 seasons.

I love to do activities with children. I am not the type of care provider who will sit children in front of the TV and do my own thing. Just to be clear, I rather children have no screen time during my time with them. I prefer for children to have fun. If the parent permits, I like to take them on outings to the park, or maybe a day to the zoo, children's museum, library, or swimming pool depending on the child's interest. I love doing art projects, or fun cooking activities, playing board games, and will even happily partake in dress up or tea parties. As well as making sure the children enjoy the time we spend together, I firmly believe in education. I like to come up with developmentally appropriate activities that stimulate the intellectual growth of each child. For school aged children I come in great handy for help with homework.

I am a student and am working towards a degree in early childhood education. I take courses through the local community college's online program, when I transfer next year I will continue primarily with online education. I am familiar with many learning/parenting styles includingMontessori, Waldorf, Attachment Parenting, and Positive Redirection. What I am unfamiliar with, I am willing to learn. My time spent with your children is based on your needs, their needs, and your parenting beliefs. I am very flexiable when it comes to this as I understand it is your child and I enjoy learning new styles.

I have a license, car insurance, and a car for transporting needs. In addition, I know basic Spanish, and am furthering my skills incase you are interested in your child learning a second language.

I would ideally like a position that offers at least a 1 year contract.

Best,
Jillian

Nanny Share SW Portland

January 02, 2013

My husband and I would like to invite a family into a nanny share.  I will be returning to work on February 1st and that is when we would like to start.  We live five blocks from Multnomah Village. The days/hours we are looking for would be Mon, Tue and Thur from 11-530 (days and times are flexible).  We have a 2 year old and 4 month old, both are boys.  Ideally we would love to have another toddler so the kids can play.  We are in the process of interviewing nannies that we have found on care.com.  We would need the childcare to take place in our home as well.  We also thought it would be great to find a nanny that spoke spanish or could teach some.  This is not a requirement but thought it might be fun.  A lot of the nannies that we have spoke with have experience teaching.  If you are interested in talking about this and working something out please email me.

THanks,

Wren

Our wonderful nanny is looking for a new family – N, NE, NW, SE PDX

October 20, 2012

Our wonderful nanny Alisa is looking for a new family. With the new baby on the way and my husband travelling for work, we came to heartbreaking decision that live-in nanny would better fit our needs. The problem is, we love our nanny, and we don’t want her to go! So we are on a mission to find new perfect family for her.

Alisa has been with us for the past year, taking care of our finicky son Eydan. She started with us when Eydan was 6 months old and would not sleep for longer than half an hour. Through this year, she was with us with LO getting constantly sick, fussy, teething – you name it – and she never lost her patience. She has been calm, organized presence and she quickly became part of the family.

Alisa is always smiling, on time and imaginative with Eydan’s activities. She has lots of childcare experience and natural love for kids. If you would like any additional information, please feel free to contact us and we will be glad to answer any questions - milka_vevoda@yahoo.com. We will be sure to forward any information to her.  She is flexible with her schedule and available as of week of October 22nd in N, NE, NW, SE neighborhood. Alisa has reliable transportation, but is unable to put a carseat in her car. It has never been a problem for us, but if you need someone with car with carseat, she may not be your gal. We highly recommend her and know that her new family will be very happy with her.

Thank you!

I am a part-time stay at home mom in North Portland with a very social, verbal, and active two year old boy. I'd love to help another family out with some childcare a few hours a week. I am with my son Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. If there are any parents of a kiddo close to this age (maybe 20 months-3 years?) who could use a few hours a week of childcare, drop me a line.

About us: We have a clean, smoke-free house with one cat and a nice fenced in backyard. We don't do screen time and play outside as much as possible. We are a short walk from two great parks and the library. We go to story time (the two year old one) and in the fall and winter we go to "Indoor Park" at Penninsula park community center in the mornings. We also like art projects, playing music, and playing with toys at home. We eat healthy snack and meals and can accomodate food restrictions.

Female Professional new to Portland looking for Babysitting clients

August 27, 2012

Hello!

My name is Robyn and I recently relocated from Seattle to the NW District for a great new career opportunity. I am a college educated, single female professional in my mid-thirties and while I don't have any  of my own, I do enjoy spending time with children.

I have years of recent childcare experience with kids ranging from 6-months to 12 years of age. I had a couple of families in Seattle that I would sit for on a regular basis and I really miss them now that I have moved down to PDX.

I work regular hours from Monday to Friday but would be interested in speaking with any families that are looking for the occasional reliable babysitter. I would be glad to meet for an interview and I also have references that would be happy to speak with you and vouch for my character.

Please let me know if you would like to chat. The best to get in touch with me is email robynwoodman@gmail.com.

Thanks so much!

Robyn

Our Amazing Nanny Is Available Part Time

August 17, 2012

We have a fabulous nanny. She has been with us since our almost 4 year old daughter was 4 months old, and now need to cut back her hours due to preschool. She has been amazing every step of the way, and we wanted to write her this letter of reference to ease her search for an amazing family. We are hoping to keep her with us part time, as she is now one of daughter's best friends. She is magic with infants, and could get my daughter to sleep way more than I ever could. She was adept in all my family's needs; cloth diapers, frozen breast milk, dietary restrictions, and anything we asked of her. As my daughter grew she always was seeking out age appropriate activities. She would search for classes at the community center to attend during her hours, and always taking our daughter to the playground. She takes my daughter all over to places like OMSI, children's museum, the zoo, playdate pdx, and swimming. She is energetic, bubbly, and fantastic with children. She is dependable and always on time. Please contact us via email with any additional questions you may have and we will be happy to call or email you back. For all other non-reference questions, please contact her directly. She has written some information about herself and contact information below. Thank you!
Mindy and Jeremy Stone
mindyfagerstrom@hotmail.com

Here is some information from our nanny:
I am seeking a part-time nanny position in order to supplement my current nanny position. I have been working with my current family for more than 3 years, but now that their daughter is in preschool, my hours have been reduced. I am available:
Tuesdays (any time)
Thursdays (til approx. 4 pm)
Friday (any time)
Some Saturdays & Sundays
I am seeking a minimum of 10 hours a week. With some advance notice, I am also available for date nights and other babysitting jobs.

I think that children (and I) do best to get out of the house daily, even if it's just for a walk around the neighborhood. I'm very pro-active about finding things to do and places to go, such as the library, various story times, kid's musical events, playgrounds/parks, Play Date PDX, the Zoo, etc. Portland's such a family friendly place and there's always tons of activities indoors and out, whatever the weather, and I like to take advantage of that.

I am college educated, but plan to nanny for approximately the next 2 years. I have a clear criminal background history. I have taken infant and child CPR and 1st Aid, but my certification needs to be renewed, which I plan on doing asap. I am a non-smoker and have no pet allergies.

As for my general childrearing philosophy, I am very flexible, but tend to pull my beliefs from multiple sources, especially attachment parenting and Montessori. (Since every family and child is different, I don't believe that any one philosophy is "one size fits all.") I believe in soothing crying babies and being interactive with them, and have experience with cloth diapers, feeding with breastmilk, and babywearing. For toddlers and older children, I believe in learning while playing, silliness, and redirection if needed. Although I am flexible, I do believe that children thrive with some consistency and structure.

One of the most important things for me is to have a good fit and partnership with the families that I work with. Please contact me via email or phone if you have any questions or would like to discuss things further. I would greatly appreciate if you would include some information about your family, child care needs, etc.

Thank you!

NE PDX MAMA AVAILABLE FOR CHILDCARE

Hello Mamas and Daddies,

My name is Lindsey and I live here in NE Portland with my husband and our amazing nearly two and a half year old son. I have been providing childcare for a few other families in our home since the arrival of our own. I currently have an opening for Tuesdays and Thursdays. An ideal match would be near the same age as our son so they can have a blast playing together but I am open to other ages. Aside from being a full time mom I am also a licensed massage therapist and had a business based on infant massage. Our house is very baby/toddler friendly. We spend our days playing, making arts and crafts, laughing, making music, dancing, reading, eating organic and working on whatever developmental skills the tots are discovering at the moment. We spend as much time outside as possible whether it's going for a hike in the Gorge, goofing around at new parks, digging in the garden, meeting new animals at the zoo or discovering at the Children's Museum. I believe in a nurturing and confidence building environment. Providing childcare in my home during the week is something I feel very fortunate to do. It enables our son to interact and gain great social skills with a buddy. We live near the Kennedy School and live in walking distance to a couple of fantastic parks. If this sounds like a good match I would love to hear from you. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Thanks so much,

Lindsey

warm, flexible, creative, patient, silly, capable, experienced toddler caregiver/nanny/regular sitter needed ASAP

August 13, 2012

Hi my family is looking for someone with experience and a passion for working with young children to care for our bright, funny, active, precocious, snuggly, adventurous 17 month old girl. Mom is an educator/teacher/academic/writer who has worked across the age and theory spectrum and has a passion for Reggio Emilia, play based and expereintial  learning. I see children as partners in research and experience as well as learning. Since my daughter was born I've been able to learn with and from her and I'd love to find someone who has a background in Reggio or any of the other educational practices I've mentioned.

Dad works in computer programming from our home office and Grandma (who is a retired educator) live in our in law apartment.

We are looking for someone to give Dad and Grandma a break during the week while I (Mom) will be recuperating from major orthopedic surgery. Hours would be about 15-20 hours a week over the course of 3 weekday mornings (Wednesdays are essential but everything else is open for discussion.) Hours would ideally be something along the lines of 8 or 9 am to 1 or 2 pm.  Primarily we are looking for someone to do the things that I usually do with my active, creative little girl and won't be able to for several months. Trips to the parks near our close in SE home (less than 2 blocks from Kennilworth park, the zoo, OMSI, the children's museum, Mount Scott Community pool (we have membership cards for all of these places), trips to Cafe Au Play, Storytimes, kids music, outdoor adventures and of course just playing and being silly at home.

Because I have no idea what my recovery will look like this is a long term temporary position, somewhere between 4 and 10 months, most likely. This would make a great part time job for a child development student, mom (feel free to bring your toddler or young child), or childcare provider with an afternoon part time position.

Please be over 21 and have at least 5 years varifiable experience. Current infant/child CPR and OCH registration as well as fantastic references would be a HUGE advantage. Please have your own transportaion, insurance and clean driving record or be comfortable using public transportation.

Your primary job will be to take care of our daughter so it would be great if you were comfortable doing projects, helping her clean up, preparing simple kid friendly meals and snacks. We are not looking for a houskeeper, we would love someone who enjoys spending time with our daughter and wants to be included in our close knit family.

Thank you for reading. Please contact Aviva at: aviva@eberlin.net or (503) 528 4833 if this sounds like a good fit for you.

All the best,

Aviva

Date Night Childcare Needed!

Hello!

Our little family of three just moved to Portland from Tacoma, WA and my husband and I would like to resume our bi-monthly date nights!  We are looking for childcare for our 3.5 year old daughter.

Here are the details:

  • Regular schedule of every other Saturday night. (2 times per month)
  • 6:00 pm to midnight (probably home earlier, but never later)
  • At our home in SE Portland in the Hosford-Abernathy neighborhood
  • $40 flat rate (our daughter goes to bed at 8:00 pm so there would only be 2 hours of active child care needed)
  • Our date nights would begin in September.

This would be a great job for a nanny or college student looking for some extra cash.

If you are interested, please tell me little bit about yourself at aebowman@hotmail.com

Thank you,

Amy

Family looking for nanny to provide part-time child care for 3-year old!

August 07, 2012

Hi there!

Mom is looking to go back to work after being home with daughter for the past year. Will need someone at most 3 days per week (5-6 hours per day) to play with, feed, attend to, and nurture our daughter while Dad gets some sleep after working the night shift. Schedule will be determined once mom gains employment.

Typical duties include: Serving breakfast and lunch (meals will be pre-made; just need to heat--if applicable--and serve), helping her get dressed (clothes will be laid out), including brushing teeth and washing her face, playing with her outside or at a neighborhood park, taking her to library story time for preschoolers, assisting with homeschool work, making sure she takes a nap, and light cleanup after meals/activities. She has plenty of craft materials, books, and toys to  make her play time and learning time meaningful. She also likes to sing songs and watch her Bible story DVDs (limit 1 per day, no more than 30 minutes at a time).

We are a Christian and Christian-inspired, vegetarian family that aims to provide a wholesome, loving, healthy environment for our little girl. All we ask of a potential caregiver is that you be kind, patient, creative, and attentive to our daughter. If this is you, please email Jeanine with your availability and hourly rate at jaye_marie11@yahoo.com.
