Best way to find infant care options in/near SE?
Hi UrbanMamas!
We moved to Portland recently for my husband's job, and there must be something in the water, because we're already expecting our first child - a baby boy - in June 2013!
As per instructions from almost everyone I know, we're already starting to look into infant care options for when I go back to work full time in September 2013. We've gotten a few recommendations from my still measly social networks here but mainly we're relying on internet research which seems to be turning up the same few options: ChildRoots, Creative Minds, Grandma's Place, Belmont Academy, CCLC, the OHSU CCLC (we're looking in/near SE). Or find a nanny.
I figure this can't be all that's out there or 90% of the babies in SE Portland wouldn't have a place to go. My prenatal yoga instructor says many places just don't have websites. Does anyone have ideas - specific places or lists of places? A nanny or nanny share would also be an option. I work from home and have a fairly flexible schedule, so I don't necessarily need a full-time, 9-6 deal. On the other hand I've been told not to expect to get any work done if I'm home with the baby, even if there's a nanny there too. And I do travel for work from time to time, and my husband has VERY long and VERY inflexible hours (he's a resident at OHSU).
Would love to hear from anyone with experience or ideas! Places you or your friends have sent your babies, lists you've received, other networks you think I should tap into? Mamas who work from home, any creative ways you've made it work? Nanny+coworking space? Would love to hear any and all input!
Thanks SO much,
Beth Stucky (bethstucky1@gmail.com) - that's a number 1 in my email address

We found wonderful care for our infant daughter on a Craigslist ad of all places. I know that a lot of places are word-of-mouth only, especially for in home care that is unlicensed (but still very good and sometimes cheaper).
