As a Certified Family Childcare we provide a high quality preschool program with the convenience of childcare hours for children ages 24 months up to pre-Kindergarten with no potty training requirement. Housed in a home-like setting our Reggio-inspired space is warm and inviting, the ideal space for play, exploration and learning! Located in NE Portland we are just off of NE Fremont easily accessible from Hollywood, Alameda, Irvington, Alberta Arts, North Portland, and more!
Our daily schedule (hours M-F 7:30-5:30) includes ample time for free play as well as daily art experiences, song circle, outside exploration, and projects that touch on all of the Multiple Intelligences. We believe in providing children with authentic learning experiences relying on hands-on activities which are both child directed and teacher led (versus workbooks or rote learning). Parent communication is key, log in each day to our password protected photo blog to get a sneak peek of our daily happenings!
We are committed to a sustainability philosophy which is highlighted not only by our actions but by our classroom environments. We celebrate the aesthetic beauty of nature, light and natural materials–wood, plants, glass and stoneware, etc.–while exceeding the environmental standards of ECERS.
It is the goal of Small Wonders to provide children with a safe and
nurturing environment where they can mature on their own, yet be
challenged to explore new concepts and ideas. The children are
encouraged to participate at their own pace and level without
competition or comparison. Play is one of the most important tasks for
young children. Through play they learn to master their environment and
expand and incorporate their ideas. However, we are not strictly a
“play-based” school, we believe that it is our duty as educators to
introduce the world to the children through meaningful projects. It is
our belief that a quality program offers both directed and non-directed
activities that encourage children to plan and think about what they are
We draw inspiration for our thematic explorations from the children’s interests; therefore we study a wide variety of themes from rockets to rainforests, car engines, plants, and fairy tales to name a few.
