Looking for nanny - NW - 30 hrs/week
Hello. My husband and I are looking for an experienced nanny to look after our 3-month-old daughter and to do light dinner prep. I work from home and will be available for feedings throughout the day. Schedule is relatively flexible, but in general we would like someone from 9am-6pm on Mondays & Tuesdays, and from 10pm-4pm on Thursdays & Fridays, with possible weekend hours here and there. We will pay $10/hour and guarantee 30 hrs/week regardless of whether or not you are needed the entire time. We would prefer a native speaker of either Spanish or French, but most important to us are excellent references and a good fit. Let me know if you're interested. Andrea oinkaboinka@gmail.com

Looking for a limited-term nanny share for my 3.5 year old boy (through June?) for 2-3 days a week (Monday, Tuesday or Thursday). We live in the Hollywood area and switched preschools when we moved in the fall but the new preschool didn't have enough days open. Oscar is a very social kid & would be much happier with another kid(s) around rather than just a nanny. The usuals - very limited tv, outside time is always good.
Thanks for any suggestions anyone has!

Looking for part-time care or nanny share in St. Johns
We are looking for a part-time nanny for our (nearly) four month old son starting in April in the St. Johns area of North Portland. I work half-time from home, so we would like someone to come in and nanny two (or possibly two and a half) days a week to be with him while I am working. Foreign languages a plus and references required.
We are also open to the possibility of a nanny-share with another family, or with bringing him to a St. Johns area home for care.
If you are a nanny looking for work or another family looking for a possible nanny-share, please drop us a line and let's talk.

NANNY SHARE OPPORTUNITY
Our nanny is loving and very responsible; she’s been caring for our 19-month old son for about one year. Ideally, we’d like to find a family with a similar age child (15 to 24 month), so that they can enjoy similar activities and have a similar schedule. We would like to find a family that has similar standards for their child’s education. We think it is important to feed our son healthy food (mostly organic) and make sure he has age appropriate activities (No TV etc), gets to play outside and is encouraged to be creative.
Our Nanny works for us Mon/Wed/Thur. from about 9 am – 5pm and sometimes half a day on Friday. She is available Tuesdays as well.
Our previous share family decided that it is time for their child to attend daycare.
If you are interested in exploring a nanny-share, feel free to send me an email or call Chris at 503-320-2966.

The Earth Tortoise School - a Montessori community for infants and toddler - is now enrolling
The Earth Tortoise School is an intimate in-home school located in the Parkrose neighborhood - just off of 84 and 205 - for children 3 months to 3 years.
We see this time as one for free exploration and developing a sense of self. Infants are just learning about their bodies and developing the abilities they will need for all later learning. Toddlers are coming into their own. They are learning their place in the world , developing and refining their skills, and asserting their independence.
The Montessori prepared environment is set up to provide freedom of choice, independence and to meet the needs of the child's sensitive periods. Our classroom is the child's space - child sized, beautiful, and completely accessible to their need for being able to do things on their own. The materials are carefully chosen to stimulate but not overwhelm. The multi-aged groupings allow children to learn from each other. The youngest child looks up to the older role models and the older children have the experience of being the mentors. The classroom has a heritage and each child leaves their mark. It is a peaceful place that gives them the chance to choose what they want to work on within a routine that is predictable and limits that help them feel secure. Learning develops the whole child - physically , cognitively, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. There are no "right" answers - only more exciting questions and we love to share in their enthusiasm, all in an atmosphere of acceptance, patience, and love. In this way, the child moves through their day from one success to another, developing a love of learning for life and the confidence to follow their own path.
Our curriculum is centered around the seasons and the natural world. All areas - the language and math materials, books, art activities, and snacks - are inter-related so that learning becomes organic: a natural part of everyay. Practical life activities, sensorial experiences, music, art, gardening, nature appreciation, and cultural experiences are a huge part of each day.
Community is very important to us and we hope to create a place for families that feels like an extension of their homes - a network of support through these exciting years!
We currently have one infant and one toddler space available and we are also enrolling for all schedules for the upcoming 2010-2011 school year. We offer many flexible schedules and very competitive tuition rates. Please contact us at theearthtortoiseschool@gmail.com for more information and to set up a tour.
We are looking forward to hearing from you!
PT care for toddlers in N Portland: Have room for 2-3 more
Hi! My 2-year-old and I are looking for some toddlers to come play with us!
I have buckets of experience with young children. Prior to being a parent, I was a babysitter for years and then worked as a teacher at a Montessori school where I was the primary caregiver 8 hours a day to 15 toddlers. I am also a vegan cookbook author, so there will be organic and homemade snacks for the kids while they're in my care. (If your child will be with me all day, I do ask that you provide meals.)
Our days include but aren't limited to: reading from our huge selection of books, singing songs, playing dress-up, coloring and drawing, running out our crazies, playing with some toys, eating snacks, and doing household chores together. We have some outdoor play every day, and on nice days, we like to go for walks outside, including to one of four parks & playgrounds which are within a 1/2 mile walk. We're really excited about playing a lot in the garden and backyard this spring. I believe in play-based education: Einstein Never Used Flashcards and Holt's How Children Learn are two of my favorite books about early education.
Rates are very affordable and hours are flexible! I am asking that parents commit to a minimum of 8 hours per week, but if this will be the first time that you are separated from your child, you're welcome to work up to that by hanging out with us for the first few days.
What is most important to me is finding a good match with one or a couple of families who are looking for a warm and caring environment for their children while they work or run errands. I would prefer for our children to form long term bonds to each other and for your child to come to trust me and care for me (and vice versa), so if you're just looking for a part-time babysitter, this probably isn't the best match for you.
We have two easy-going and good-natured children starting with us in March, but we have room for 2-3 more.
Please contact me (joannavaught at gmail dot com) if you would like to set up a time to come by and visit and see if your child might like to spend some time with us.

Seeking a program appropriate for 18mo-5 years SW, NW, NE, SE
My family and I moved to the Portland area from southern Oregon just a few months ago and I am really struggling to find a full time program that will meet the needs of both of my boys, ages 18 months and almost 5 years. It seems that everything I come across that might be a great fit for my 5 year old in terms of preschool/pre-k does not accept children under the age of 2, or vise versa. They were together in an amazing Reggio Emilia program in Grants Pass, so I know this has to exist in the Portland area! I really don't want to take them to a corporate childcare, as forming a long-term bond with my provider is so important to me, and it seems that most corporate centers won't allow my boys to be 'together' during the day except for meeting at the chainlink fence during outdoor time (seriously). I would love to find somewhere my 18 month old can continue on, and possibly somewhere with private kindergarten for my son next year (though this may be asking too much). I will be working near Lloyd Center beginning in 2 weeks and my husband works downtown, but we live in the Tigard/Beaverton area. I'd prefer to have something closer to my work so I can be as involved as possible, but at this point I just want the best for my boys. I sincerely appreciate any help possible!!
Please respond to this post or email me at lmheater@gmail.com. Thank you!!

Affordable childcare or childcare swap needed
We are looking for affordable childcare or an exchange with another family who has similar needs. Our children are 8 months and 2 years.
I am a student at PCC and looking to enroll in the CNA program (March 29th-June 11th) The hours are 2:30 to 9:30 for the first half and then 2-10:30 for the second half of the program. This would be two days a week, either m/w or t/th.

looking for reasonably priced childcare in inner nw for infant
Hi! My name is Vanessa, I'm a single mother looking for child care for my one-month-old starting in June. I unfortunately am a shift worker so I need to find a child care center or in home child care that is 24/7 (or close to it). My schedule is Th/F evenings and Sat/Sun/Mon days. I live in north Portland and work at the airport, so anywhere in that vicinity would be great. I've looked into nanny care, but I'm not sure if that will be financially feasible quite yet. If anyone knows of any places that would work with my schedule please email me with info:

Need in-home daycare or nanny share in SE
Hi - I'm looking for an in-home daycare or nanny share in Southeast for our 5 month old son, starting in early April. Thanks! amykober@gmail.com
Homeschool Cooperative Preschool in SE looking for more 3-5 year olds
Thus far, we have met two days a week (W,R) from 9-12. The meeting location has rotated through all houses, with the hosting parent being the teacher (no previous teaching experience necessary!). An additional parent has also attended every session so that there is a teacher and an assistant. Two parents and three kids can do a lot! We have gone to the river, on nature hikes, to library story-time, and to various parks. The hosting parent has always provided a simple, healthy snack for our snacktime together, and we have vast experience navigating multiple food allergies (that is, in fact, part of the motivation of one of the founding families!) We have recently begun using a prepackaged, literary-based curriculum that costs $20/month per child (see the details here at http://www.ittybittybookworm.com/). Lots of guidance, but also lots of flexibility-- it's great so far!
If you would like to learn more, we'd love to have you and your child attend our school one morning. We are hoping to enroll our new families as soon as possible. We understand if you need to feel that this is coming from some faces, and not just an advertisement! Feel free to check out my (albeit outdated) family blog, kept here:http://www.oviandlio.totwindow.com/. We have also just begun to keep a posterous blog for the school's activities, the address of which I am happy to give you via email. You are also most welcome to contact me for more particulars: melodielouise at yahoo dot com.

Part Time Nanny Offering Afternoon-Evening/All Day Weekends services
Hey! :)
I'm a student at PSU majoring in Art and minoring in Psych, and am also gunning to be a certified ASL (American Sign Language) Interpreter, and would love to be your next go-to gal for nannying your kids.
I've been nannying/babysitting off and on since I was 17 (I'm 22 now), and currently my friends' kids are old enough to be able to watch themselves (I have been watching them for the past 2 years, but now I'm just the fun auntie :) ). Back in high school I was a nanny for a good family friend and stayed at her house on weekends while she ran her hair salon business downstairs. I helped with not only feeding/bathing/playing/dressing/storytime, but also with keeping the house in shining order. (I grew up in a family of 5, so I know how hard it is to keep things clean!)
I approach being a nanny with a family foundation mindset, meaning that I'm not just looking at this to get paid for watching your kid. You're allowing me into your home, meaning that we are developing a relationship with one another, and you're also looking for compatibility with not only yourselves as parents but your children as well.
I like doing crafty things art wise, so keeping kids busy with colorful projects isn't an issue. I could even teach them a little bit of sign! :) Board games are hilarious to me because watching kids trying to make up rules that don't exist never gets old. Basically...I can be a kid myself. But I'm also a responsible adult, and know when there is room for fun and room to get my duties accomplished.
Commute from me is by bus or by bike, but I will do my darndest to pull my weight to meeting your needs as best I can.
I also have a reference on hand from the family I've been with the past two years as well for you to do a background check on. :)
If you'd like to meet for a cup of coffee just send me an email and we can make something work. I look forward to meeting with you!
Signing off,
Teresa Nguyen

Seeking part-time childcare for 21-month old
Are there any in-home and/or childcare centers in N/NE Portland that offer half-day childcare, 5 days a week at a part-time rate? I would like her to be socialized (so not a nanny situation), mentally stimulated, and have a diverse set of experiences through the day (ie. outdoors, songs, learning, play, art).
My work situation requires half-days 5-days a week, but I am having a hard time finding half-day childcare that makes sense for the amount that I make as a part-time employee. Need something asap. Thanks!
Hello Mamas!
I am a soon-to-be first time mama. I am due Saturday (2/20)! My husband and I have child care covered until Septemeber but then we are on our own and we want to get a head start on finding a place for our baby girl. I will be starting grad school at Lewis and Clark in June full time and my husband works for Wieden and Kennedy in the pearl. So, we are hoping to find something downtown or close-in SW Portland. Our biggest obstacle seems to be price. Is it possible to find child care under $1000/month? Ideally we'd like something around $600-800/month but we aren't sure if this is at all possible. We are open to in-home, nanny shares, day care centers, anything really as long as it's a good fit and something we can afford. Any help anyone can offer is GREATLY appreciated.

In-home childcare with a licensed teacher, SE Portland
I am a licensed Pre-K-5 teacher providing quality educational childcare to a small group of children, including my 3 year old son. I currently care for two 3 year old boys on M-W-F and have both a two year old boy and girl who each attend one day per week. We would love to add some new friends!
I have many years of work and volunteer experience in a range of educational settings, including teaching kindergarten. Working with young children and families feels like home to me and I am excited to offer a nurturing home away from home for your little ones.
I am a registered family child care provider, enrolled in the criminal history registry, have current first-aid and CPR training, and my home has met childcare division safety standards. In addition, I participate in the USDA food program and I am on Step 11 of the Oregon Registry for childcare and early childhood education professionals.
Rather than adhering to one early childhood educational philosophy, I like to draw on the strengths of various approaches in creating a child-focused atmosphere of play and discovery.

Loving Nanny Available
Hello Mamas and Families-
My name is Jackie and I am searching for a family in need of a
loving nanny. I am a certified teacher who is taking some time off to
raise my two daughters who are one and four years old. I have spent the
last three years nannying for two different families. I am looking for a
family who would need care for approximately 30 hours or so each week and who
would be open to the idea of my two daughters coming along. They are both
very bright, sweet girls who love other children and it worked out wonderfully
with both families I nannied for. I have found it to be a wonderful
experience in that the children have experience with socialization, but on a
much smaller scale (and with fewer germs, too!).
In terms of my background, I taught Kindergarten and
First Grade for 5 years, have done lots of tutoring (I am tutoring two children
right now) and babysitting, and have been a nanny for the past three years for
children from the ages of 1 to 9 years. I worked part time at The Children’s
Place Bookstore and was a rep for a baby sling company as well. My life
always has and always will revolve around children!
I love the outdoors and exploring nature, I love reading and
singing, I love making art (my undergraduate degree was in Art History) and
being crafty, and I love lots of creative play. I especially love being
silly, laughing and having fun. My approach in raising my own daughters
has been very inspired by attachment parenting, connection parenting and
unconditional parenting philosophies. I also find myself to be drawn to
the Waldorf philosophy with their focus on imagination and the natural
world. I generally like to follow the child’s lead and interests,
providing gentle guidance and suggestions along the way.
If you are in need of a nanny, please email me at jackielou314@yahoo.com. I would love
to meet with you and talk more about my philosophy in caring for
children. Thanks so much for reading and I look forward to hearing from

Fun, progressive, experienced nanny seeks part-time work (or 1-time jobs)! (N, NE, can travel)
Hello there!
Business first, then a bit more about me personally below!
I'm looking for part-time (between 5 and 10 hours per week, over 1 or 2 days) work on a consistent basis for one or two families, to start immediately (or soonish!). I am located in N/NE between the Alberta and Mississippi neighborhoods, but have reliable transportation and can travel further out for the right opportunity. I charge $12/hour for one child, and $2 more per hour for each additional child. I've nannied regularly (weekly) for two families here in Portland, each with two children- ages 2-7 (those references available upon request). I've also taken occasional jobs with approx. 5 or 6 other families. I'm most comfortable with ages 1 1/2- 10 years. I've been with one of these families for nearly a year and a half, though their situation now is that they only need me for very occasional work. I have a reliable, new vehicle and a good driving record- I transported the children of both recent families often. I speak Spanish decently and can help your kids with the language/read to them in Spanish, if desired! I am respectful of the parenting and life style of each family. I'm a huge fan of hands-on activities (art, music, games), playing outside, and going on adventures to parks and other family-friendly places (OMSI, the zoo, libraries, etc.). I'm willing to prepare meals for the kids and to clean up after ourselves and our activities, but prefer not to be expected to do housework beyond that (this could be negotiated). I'm open to all kinds of families (queer, single-parent, "traditional," adoptive, you name it)! I anticipate, in the next 6 months, to be out of town for one two-week period, and perhaps a couple of long weekends. I have another job which leaves me with Tuesdays and Fridays (right now, this is somewhat flexible) unavailable between 10am and 6pm. I have in the past taken CPR and Basic First Aid training courses, but my certification is out of date. I am more than willing to take them again if the family would be alright with paying the fee for the class.
Note: If you are only interested in occasional sitting, please get in touch, but I typically am not available on weekends- however, far enough in advance I will consider weekend jobs!
On to more about me! I hold a part-time job as an office manager for a local, non-profit, activist theatre company, and spend oodles of time volunteering, particularly at the feminist bookstore and community space where I staff the store, run events, and oversee the Resource Center. In my free time, I play the guitar, go hiking, play lots of ping pong, read, garden, work on epic house projects with my roommates (the NoPo tool library and Rebuilding Center both see a LOT of me), see live music, hit up the two-stepping events around town, and go on road trips to interesting places. I have about 2 1/2 years of college ed. under my belt (I studied Human Rights, Poli-Sci, Spanish, and Theatre at Sarah Lawrence College, the Institute for the Int'l Education of Students, and PSU), but it turns out that I strongly prefer to learn from experience (work, internships, volunteer work), which is my current path, and I'm very happy with it. I'm originally from Tennessee, but have lived in New York, Argentina, Peru (very briefly), and Colorado (also, briefly) since graduating high school. I'm 23 (24 in June), female, and very excited to work with some new kids!!
Thanks for reading, and I hope to hear from you soon! Let me know if you have any questions for me.

Looking for a 24hour nanny - interesting schedule!
We are looking for a 24 hour nanny to come watch our 5mo baby boy in our house. We work every third day, approximately 10 shifts per month. Our schedule is consistent, so I can tell you exactly what days you would be working this year. It includes weekends. We work one 24hour shift and then have the next 48hours off. Your schedule would be the same (i.e. work Monday, off Tuesday and Wednesday, work Thursday off Friday and Saturday, work Sunday off Monday and Tuesday....)
We are looking for a nanny with baby experience, loves the outdoors, is VERY active (we walk outside everyday- rain or shine), loves dogs (we have a 100lb lap dog who loves people and kids), keeps their space tidy, is responsible, loves to get on the ground and play, sing, read and be silly; is very compassionate, and is a good communicator.
If this interests you, please send a resume with references to bowenfire@gmail.com and we can set up a time to meet and talk.Stephenie

New Kindergarten for kids near the age cut-off
Open Minds Preschool in NE Portland is adding a new kindergarten class this fall. This will be a class of up to 7 students from 1 to 3:30 each afternoon, specifically geared towards kids on the "cusp" -either slightly too young to enter public kindergarten this fall, or old enough to enter at the young end of their class.
Many parents of children with summer and fall birthdays struggle with the decision about when their child should begin school. This kindergarten class gives such children an extra year of "customized" school tailored to each child's individual abilities and pace before they are permanently placed in a grade level at an elementary school.
Learn more about our program at www.openmindspreschool.com/kindergarten and join us at our open house, February 25th at 7pm, 3936 NE 19th Ave. Hope to see you there!

They are learning their place in the world, developing and refining their skills, and asserting their independence.
Learning develops the whole child - physically, cognitively, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.
My partner and I are expecting our first child on the 1st of March. We've been casually looking at daycares the past few months, but have recently begun actively seeking care. We have found the places we both really like have waiting lists at least 6 months long. We would need care around the 1st of June when I go back to work. If anybody has recommendations for care we would love to hear from you. We live in inner SE and I work in outer SW. At this point we are open to any type of care. Your recommendations and advice are greatly appreciated fellow mamas!
you can email me directly at sellary@gmail.com--- thanks!
Two Families in North Portland Seek PT Nanny for Nanny-Share
We are looking for a fun, loving & reliable part-time nanny to care for our two toddlers - one boy, one girl. They are about 20 months old and play very well together. They have very kind souls and curious minds, love going to the park & exploring the neighborhood, storytime at the library, and picking things from the garden. We don’t watch TV during the day and prefer to pursue educational activities, music and art. Both our families live in North Portland near Mississippi Ave / Peninsula Park, and our homes are within a 10-15 minute walk of each other.
The usual schedule would be Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8am to 4pm for both toddlers. In the future, we might increase to three days a week depending on the economy. Both households are available for childcare. I am a designer and work from home, and will be around most of the time. Some amount of flexibility is desirable as there may be some weeks that either family may need a little extra help.
Pay would be about $13-$15/hr when watching both children depending on experience, and we will provide some paid time off each month. You will need to provide receipts for each pay period for our tax/bookkeeping purposes. Experience working with multiple children at once and reliability are important - and it’s a plus if you live close, have your own transportation and CPR training.
If interested, please email emilyrefi@gmail.com - tell us about yourself and send a resume including at least two childcare references. Thanks!

I may be looking for you!
I have 12 years experience taking care of children from ages newborn to teen. I also have experience working with children who have special needs. I love having a quiet day at home or getting out and about and going to OMSI, CM2, Out Of This World, Puppets with Penny, and other fun activities! I also like having playdates! I don't mind doing laundry, prepping or making dinner, (light) housecleaning, grocery shopping and errands. Willing to talk about other things you may need done during the day so you are able to come home and relax instead of worrying about what you need to do.
I'm looking for a family who knows what they want and who not only VALUES but APPRECIATES having an experienced nanny and is not afraid of letting her know! I really go above and beyond for my family and charges and feeling appreciated goes a long way! I'm looking for a family who understands how important communication is because being comfortable with open communication is a MUST! I prefer not to work weekends and am looking for $15 an hour.
Sound good to you so far? Lets talk!
Thank you!
