Loving Nanny Available

Hello Mamas and Families-

My name is Jackie and I am searching for a family in need of a loving nanny.  I am a certified teacher who is taking some time off to raise my two daughters who are one and almost four years old.  I have spent the last three years nannying for two different families.  I am looking for a family who would need care for approximately 30 hours or so each week and who would be open to the idea of my two daughters coming along.  They are both very bright, sweet girls who love other children and it worked out wonderfully with both families I nannied for.  I have found it to be a wonderful experience in that the children have experience with socialization, but on a much smaller scale (and with fewer germs, too!).

In terms of my background, I  taught Kindergarten and First Grade for 5 years, have done lots of tutoring (I am tutoring two children right now) and babysitting, and have been a nanny for the past three years for children from the ages of 1 to 9 years.  I worked part time at The Children’s Place Bookstore and was a rep for a baby sling company as well.  My life always has and always will revolve around children!

I love the outdoors and exploring nature, I love reading and singing, I love making art (my undergraduate degree was in Art History) and being crafty, and I love lots of creative play.  I especially love being silly, laughing and having fun.  My approach in raising my own daughters has been very inspired by attachment parenting, connection parenting and unconditional parenting philosophies.  I also find myself to be drawn to the Waldorf philosophy with their focus on imagination and the natural world.  I generally like to follow the child’s lead and interests, providing gentle guidance and suggestions along the way.

If you are in need of a nanny, please email me at jackielou314@yahoo.com.  I would love to meet with you and talk more about my philosophy in caring for children.  Thanks so much for reading and I look forward to hearing from you!

SAHM looking for 2-3 toddlers to join us! (North Portland)

Hi! My 2-year-old and I are looking for 2-3 children between the ages of 18 mos and 3 years to play with us 12-20 hours per week.

I have buckets of experience with young children. Prior to being a parent, I was a babysitter for years and then worked as a teacher at a Montessori school where I was the primary caregiver 8 hours a day to 15 toddlers. I am also a vegan cookbook author, so there will be lots of organic and homemade snacks for the kids while they're in my care.

Our days include but aren't limited to: reading from our huge selection of books, singing songs, playing dress-up, coloring and drawing, running out our crazies, playing with some toys, eating some organic snacks, and helping mama with household chores. On nice days, we like to go for walks outside, including to one of four parks & playgrounds which are within a 1/2 mile walk. I believe in play-based education: Einstein Never Used Flashcards and Holt's How Children Learn are two of my favorite books about early education.

Rates are very affordable and hours are (currently) negotiable! I am also open to nanny share situations, and if you live in North Portland, I am open to coming to your house, or alternating between my house and yours to offer the kids variety.

What is most important to me is finding a good match with one or a couple of families who are looking for a warm and caring environment for their children.

I would prefer for our children to form long term bonds to each other and for your child to come to trust me and care for me (and vice versa), so if you're just looking for a part-time babysitter, this probably isn't the best match for you.

Please email me if you would like to set up a playdate see if your child might like to spend some time with us: joannavaught@gmail.com

Song Garden School - Waldorf Inspired Early Childhood Programs

Enrolling Preschool and Kindergarten Now for 2010-2011!

Offering 2, 3 and 5 day programs from 9am – 1pm with teachers Mr. Bryan Owens and Ms. Nina Lane

Song Garden offers an education that supports the growth of the whole child. We strive to create an optimal environment for children to imitate and explore.

To nurture the balance and wellbeing of the growing child, rhythm underlies our mornings together. Daily activities include storytelling, puppetry, art projects, music, preparing organic snacks, rest time and free play. Within our daily ‘circle-time’ the teacher shares finger-plays and songs with themes that connect the child to their natural environment, allowing the children to fully enter activities with their imagination.

Each day we enjoy outdoor free-play on five acres of Sewallcrest Park, a pesticide-free inner city green space with old growth trees.

We invite you to visit our website at www.songgarden.org for more info. Our phone # is 503-780-2948 and email is songgardenpreschool@yahoo.com.

Looking for stay at home mom 2 days a week

We are looking for a stay at home mom that would be available to watch our 9 month old daughter on Monday's and Wednesday's from 7:30am - 5:30pm.  We are currently paying $450 per month for the two days of care.  We live in inner SE Portland near Woodstock elementary.

Our daughter is currently in an inhome daycare center environment. We have discovered that she does well with more close contact from the care provider.  She began struggling in her current daycare situation when another child was added to the group and there became less structure to the day.  This is why we think a stay at home mom with one child would be an ideal situation for our daughter.  She loves going on walks and playing outside.

We are open to the care being provided in our house or in yours.

Please email us if you are interested.

A Testimonial About Our Childcare...
I continue to rank the Childcare Search as among the more heart-wrenching tasks of parental life. Having been through a couple tough transitions with my two kids in the past, I wanted to offer other parents a quick nod to a setting we feel blessed to have found. It's a special place that has grown dear to our hearts. We had a nanny for several years, whom we cherished. When her life was transitioning, we questioned whether we could find an intimate, bonding experience in more of a "center" setting with more kids to play with. Together We Grow offered the best of both worlds. A staff that is loving and stable enough to create long-term bonds, a more socially enriching experience, and a program that is consciously developed by two sisters with vast experience in the care of little people.

Once I was comfortable with the people providing the care, I was able to enjoy another true gift of this center - the OUTSIDE. These kids spend a TON of time outside all year round. Huge yard with an embarassment of riches for little explorers. It feels like they are plopped into a camp setting - there are small wooded areas (my son learned how to climb trees here), summer flower and vegetable gardening, vast expanses of grass and barkdust areas, tons of tricylces and wagons for riding in, bunnies to feed and the standard play structures also. These kids don't lack for stimulation. And through the rainy Oregon days, each child has boots and these fabulous "rain pants" to keep them out and well-exercised year round.

There is great emphasis on art play, songs, books. The seasonal themes and work they bring home are endless. There is a holiday party in December, where the children - even the tiniest toddlers (!) - perform songs and skits. And there are several other field trips every year (apple farm, pumpkin patch, library shows, leaf-gathering, etc).

My son was at this center from age three till Kindergarten, and still BEGS to go back for school closure days. My daughter, who is now three, started when she was one. I can't imagine her soul being so well-nourished anywhere else. I was referred to the program through my work's referral center. I was impressed at the time that the director of the referral service, who hears a lot of feedback about all the options, had her own children there at the time and raved about it.

I know they moved some kids into Kindergarten this fall and have a few openings, (although I must admit to not knowing which age groups they have room for - they strive for a perfect balance of ages). Anyway - I just thought I'd toss out my recommendation! If you want to explore further, contact Cheri at (503) 579-6889. Or I'm happy to chat personally also: (503) 246-6210.

Ah, yes - I suppose I should provide some contact info!

Homeschool Cooperative Preschool in SE looking for more ~3 year olds

We are three families in the SE area looking for other like-minded families to participate in our co-op preschool. The co-op preschool has been in operation since July, and is going really well. We'd love to keep our routine going by finding some other families of 3- or 4-year old children. We would like to find at least one more child, but would be happy to have as many as a total of 6 in our program.

Thus far, we have met two days a week (W,R) from 9-12. The meeting location has rotated through all houses, with the hosting parent being the teacher (no previous teaching experience necessary!). An additional parent has also attended every session so that there is a teacher and an assistant. Two parents and three kids can do a lot! We have gone to the river, on nature hikes, to library story-time, and to various parks. The hosting parent has always provided a simple, healthy snack for our snacktime together, and we have vast experience navigating multiple food allergies (that is, in fact, part of the motivation of one of the founding families!)  We have recently begun using a prepackaged, literary-based curriculum that costs $20/month per child (see the details here at http://www.ittybittybookworm.com/).  Lots of guidance, but also lots of flexibility-- it's great so far!

If you would like to learn more, we'd love to have you and your child attend our school one morning. We are hoping to enroll our new families as soon as possible. We understand if you need to feel that this is coming from some faces, and not just an advertisement!  Feel free to check out my (albeit outdated) family blog, kept here:http://www.oviandlio.totwindow.com/You are also most welcome to contact me for more particulars: melodielouise at yahoo dot com.

Happy preschool plotting!

Hello Mama's-
I am looking for infant care in Vancouver that is high quality and affordable. It is seeming to be impossible! So, perhaps a coop is desperately in need! Anyone in Vancouver that would be interested in a childcare coop? Anyone know of an existing coop that takes infants, location is not important as I work in Portland. Feel free to e-mail...jessica@earthycleaners.com. Thanks for your feedback!

Friday Nanny Share

I have a one day a week nanny share/play group. I have been doing this for a few years now, its been really wonderful. Currently I have two three year old boys, (mine and one other) we would like to add a third friend to the mix!

We do all kinds of activities and outings, from trips to the zoo or museums, visiting the library, catching local plays or puppet shows. Recently we started to do to "research" projects, where we choose a topic and learn about it, and do various hands on projects exploring the topic. Right now we are learning about sharks and are getting ready to make model sharks!

I try to do one activity at home, that being an art project or cooking, and one outing sometimes we do two outings, it just depends on whats going on in the city, and how the kids feel! I plan stuf in advance but their moods and needs lead the day!

About me: 24 year old mom/student who has been a nanny/babysitter for @ 10 years, I have tons of local and current references. I like to get messy and dirty with my kiddos, play on the floor, get involved in their imaginative games/play. No child is treated differently than my own. I believe children should be spoken to and issues should and can be talked out. I try and avoid time outs, but do "breaks". My son and I eat mostly organic, and do not frequent fast food. While I do allow my son to watch television, I try to keep it too a minimum, and not on on Fridays, well sometimes on a rainy day we may watch a movie but that's not the norm! We have all kinds of fun toys, mostly wood and very few electronic toys.

My home is non-smoking pet free. Im available from 7am-7pm. I would like to add either boy/girl that is 3 years old. Perferably with a late summer/early fall birthday- just so we are all about the same page. I hope to hear from you!

Hummingbird Preschool Open House

Hummingbird Preschool is having our open house for fall 2010 on Friday, February 19th from 10-12.  Our address is 5254 NE 18th Ave.  Interested families should RSVP by e-mail to hummingbirdschool@yahoo.com or through the website at www.hummingbirdschool.com.  I've included a bit of information about our school below :0)

Hummingbird School is a community and on-going adventure comprised of parents, students and staff.  Twelve students (ages 3-5) and two teachers, spend each school day (9am-1pm) working and learning and playing together.  Our school is a fun and spontaneous place where children are encouraged to explore, interact, create, imagine and express themselves and where being a child is supported, nurtured and celebrated.  The program is designed to allow children to discover the world through play in an environment that is unhurried, loving and secure.  Most of our art and play activities are open-ended.  We feel strongly that play, creativity, friendship/community building, and conflict resolution are the organic curriculum of early childhood and that children naturally challenge themselves to work on the skills they need to learn and develop.  A focus on play allows preschoolers many authentic opportunities to interact with peers and practice valuable skills such as empathy, flexibility, problem solving and negotiating.

The Northeast Community Child Development Center has openings in our Toddler classroom (1 – 3 year olds).

Located in the Irvington neighborhood of NE Portland, NCCDC is a full day co-operative child development center. Our teachers implement a child-centered, play-based curriculum in the classrooms. They develop activities to enhance literacy, art, math, and motor skills in our children. Our families are included in every aspect of the center. Parents develop goals and objectives for programming and administration, help with fundraising, hire and evaluate staff, and volunteer each week in the classrooms. We believe that parental involvement with the center benefits the families, the children, and our staff.

NCCDC is open Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 6:00pm year round. We offer 3 enrollment options – 2 days, 3 days, or 5 days a week. Please call us at 503-284-8797 to set a time to visit our one of a kind center. Also check out our website at www.pdxchild.org .

Looking for a family to share our Nanny in Inner SE Hawthorne area, 3 - 4 days a week (flexible)

Our nanny is loving and very responsible; she’s been caring for our 18 month old son for about one year. Ideally, we’d like to find a family with a similar age child, so that they can enjoy similar activities and have a similar schedule.

We have our Nanny Mo/Wed/Thur. and half a day on Friday. Normally from 9 am – 5 pm – however our Nanny is pretty flexible with changing work schedules and changing baby schedules. Fridays she works for half a day around my sons napping schedule.

We had a Nanny share with a family that needed more hours than we did and our Nanny worked for them an extra day. Our Nanny likes to work 4 days (+/-).

If you are interested in exploring a nanny-share, feel free to send me an email @ Christine_ritschel@yahoo.com.

Open House at Aprende con Amigos

Just wanted to chime in with a personal invite to come to the Open House at Aprende con Amigos on Feb. 25th. (See the post below yesterday from our director, Stacey Alonso, or go to Aprende's web site.

It truly is a great school. We lucked into it--we were on the wait list for another immersion school last year when the director of that school told us Stacey was opening her own program, and recommended it to us. Aprende doesn't have its own wait list yet, but I know spaces are filling faster than expected....

It is, however, a great school first and foremost, and an immersion program second. The curriculum combines the best aspects of Waldorf, Montessori, and Reggio Emilia in a way that really works for the kids, and the staff Stacey has hired...I love them almost as much as my daughter does (that's her smiling face on the Aprende home page).

Whether you're looking for a "summer camp" or a school-year program, I hope folks will come check out Aprende on February 25, or drop me a line: joeldippold@yahoo.com.

I have been working with kids for 10 years now and currently work at a child development center in SW Portland with children 6 weeks - 2.5 years old. I believe that children are a special and unique gift that have so many wonderful blessings to share with us. My husband and I are expecting our first child in 5 weeks and couldn't be more excited! I would love to be able to spend my days nannying for a caring and warm family, with my son by my side. Ideally, I would like to find a family that needs care starting in late March or early April. I am open to part-time, full-time or a flexible schedule.

Please feel free to contact me at:

Seeking Fantastic Nanny--30 hours/week

Seeking Fantastic Nanny—30 hours/week

We are a creative, professional couple seeking a live-out nanny to care for our 2-year old daughter in our Northeast Portland home for three days per week. Our current nanny is fantastic, but unfortunately she has decided to move back home (across the country) to be near her family.

Our nanny’s day is focused on the direct care of our daughter with child-related housekeeping and light meal preparation as needed. She reads a mountain of books, sings lots of songs, takes our daughter to music, gymnastics and messy art classes, and is her playmate at the park (rain or shine).

The Schedule:

* Three days per week, (specific days TBD)

* 8:30am to 6pm

* Starting: March 1st, for some overlap with our current nanny

Requirements:

* A minimum of 2 years full-time experience as a nanny for toddlers & preschool-age kids.
* CPR & First Aid certification (or willing to be certified)

* Reliable, insured car with excellent driving record

* Early Childhood Development background/education highly desirable

* Non-smoker

Compensation
*Salary commensurate with experience
*Paid vacation, sick days & national holidays

Our new nanny should truly love working with toddlers. She should be creative, loving, warm, patient, honest and dedicated. We want her to engage our daughter in active play, create imaginative, developmentally-appropriate activities for her, and be willing to help her discover her world.

If you are interested, we would love to hear from you! Please send a resume or detailed list of experience along with a description of yourself and your salary requirements. We will ultimately require an extensive background check including professional and personal references.

Loving Nanny Available

Hello Mamas and Families-

My name is Jackie and I am searching for a family in need of a loving nanny.  I am a certified teacher who is taking some time off to raise my two daughters who are almost one and almost four years old.

Looking For Part-time Childcare for Newborn in Tigard-Tualatin area

I'm looking for part-time (8-1 PM M-F) childcare in the Tigard-Tualatin-Lake Oswego area starting February 12th for a newborn (3 months). I'd prefer in-home childcare, but I'm flexible. They have to be state certified. Any good suggestions?

Hi,
My name is Lhee and I am 31 and have recently moved from Thailand to the Portland area where my husband has taken a permanent teaching position at PSU. I have 5 years experience as a teaching assistant in international pre-schools as well as working one year as an au pair with an American family in Palm Beach and Telluride. I am looking for a full time position in child care in Portland (preferably downtown) and am interested in working in a pre-school or a private home. I have a degree in business but quickly discovered that the joys of providing a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment for children were much more rewarding. I truly believe that having had the opportunity to work in highly rated international schools as well as American homes provides me with a professional knowledge of diverse activities and experiences appropriate for the various age groups and stages of development of children. Please email me at lheenaja@yahoo.com for a copy of my resume and phone numbers. Thank you.

SWEET RIVER BAMBOO PRESCHOOL & NURSERY NOW ENROLLING! SW PDX Multnomah Village

A LifeWays and Waldorf inspired program

Nurturing the spirit of childhood

Sweet River Bamboo is a new Certified mixed-age home based preschool in SW Portland. Serving children from 4 months and up.

Our program runs through all four seasons.

Our class is in session from 8:30 am to 3:10 pm Monday through Thursday and 8:30 am to 12:30 pm on Friday. Our Program is quite small with a ¼ teacher/child ratio and an 8 child daily capacity.

Organic snack, and tea are served daily.
Children bring sack lunch from home to ensure they are eating according to their dietary needs.

Sweet River Bamboo strives to create a safe, nurturing environment where children can explore, create, socialize, and be inspired by the world around them.
We feel that children learn best when they are allowed to reach milestones at their own pace and are in an enriching environment where they feel secure, loved, and respected.

An immense benefit of a mixed age program is how much the children learn from each other. It provides a very enriching space for children to thrive and grow. When children arrive they will be new, supported, and open to what they observe and experience. They will be in a room filled with little teachers. As they grow, children will have a voice in forming their own experiences and will become leaders and role models for the younger children. Compassion, leadership skills, and confidence in their ability to relate to people at any stage of their lives are what children take home and enter their larger community with.

We Honor children's natural rhythm by providing a daily rhythm consisting of self directed play, outside time, circle time and story telling, and rest time. Our Weekly rhythm brings in the fun with baking, painting, cooking, craft making, and dancing.

Our seasonal rhythm consists of observing and acknowledging the changes of the seasons, and celebrating these changes with festive gatherings.

Infants have a very special role at Sweet River Bamboo as they are in a stage of complete absorption of the world around them. They also offer an immediate lesson to everyone, teachers and children alike, in loving kindness, patience and joy.

Mindfulness, kindness, and a natural, beautiful, organic environment carry us through our days together and allow each child to blossom and thrive in their own unique ways.

Ok Mamas - please help me! My 21 month old has become extremely difficult at bedtime. About 5 weeks ago, we took away the pacifier that always guaranteed a peaceful bedtime and naptime. My pediatrician urged me to get him over the binky because my little guy has sensitive ears and the sucking was causing pressure to his little inner ear. Ever since then, my son cannot settle down at night, cannot fall back to sleep if he wakes up at night in his crib and is generally sleep deprived from this behavior. I will not give him the pacifier back, because that would be cruel to do to him at this point - making all the pain in vain. Has anyone had this experience? We have a bedtime routine like suggested, but he still will not, no matter how long and hard we try, fall asleep in his crib. I'm so tired, he's so tired and i want to teach him how to be a good sleeper for his own good. Mommy's...any advice.

Does anyone have any tips on how to form a nannyshare?

Hi Mamas/Papas/Nannies
I am a nanny for a family and we are in the process of combining forces with another family to form a nannyshare-both children on M,W. We have questions mostly revolving around what is fair and proper practice when: a family takes vacation but the other does not (how is pay affected, etc...), when one child is sick (again how to handle pay), how are vacations for the nannies handled, and what happens when nanny chooses vacation that does not coincide with families vacation?  If both families take vacation at the same time, does nanny get paid, even though this is not her scheduled vacation?

It's pretty overwhelming!  Any help, thoughts, suggestions and or experienced nannysharers would help!  I am not totally familiar with UM posting, but I think you should be able to post a comment, but if not, I will leave my e-mail address.

Thank you so much!

Nicole
