This may sound premature, but my husband and I are expecting our first in June and have begun the daunting task of searching for childcare starting in September. I am interested in small or in-home care options in North Portland, or somewhere between NoPo and Downtown. Please send responses to janicewestcott@gmail.com.

Homeschool Cooperative Preschool in SE looking for more 3 or 4 year olds
We are four (soon to be three) families in the SE area looking for other like-minded families to participate in our co-op preschool. The co-op preschool has been in operation since July, and is going really well. We'd love to keep our routine going by finding some other families of 3-year old (or soon to be 3-year old) children. We would like to find at least one more child, but would be happy to have as many as a total of 6 in our program.
Thus far, we have met two days a week (W,R) from 9-12. The meeting location has rotated through all four houses, with the hosting parent being the teacher (no previous teaching experience necessary!). An additional parent has also attended every session so that there is a teacher and an assistant. Two parents and three kids can do a lot! We have gone to the river, on nature hikes, to library story-time, and to various parks. The hosting parent has always provided a simple, healthy snack for our snacktime together, and we focus on a different letter every day. We have just selected a prepackaged, literary-based curriculum that costs $30/month per child (see the details here at http://www.ittybittybookworm.com/) to pursue beginning in January.
If you would like to learn more, we'd love to have you and your child attend our school one morning. We are hoping to enroll our new families as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Melodie Stenger

Feel free to learn more about my family and parenting values at our website: http://www.oviandlio.totwindow.com/
Hi UrbanMamas, with only 4 weeks to go until our baby is due we still have to find a pediatrician. I was hoping to get some feedback from local mamas. We have providence insurance and are looking at the following clinics: Broadway Medical, Portland Family Practice, Providence Gateway, and Dr. Joel's Clinic. If anyone has feedback on specific Dr.'s at these locations that they love (or don't love) we would love to hear about it. Having a Dr that is there 5 days a week and accessible is important to us. Also someone who supports eastern and western medicine combo and prescribes antibiotics only when totally necessary. Thanks in advance!! Sarah
Looking to share our terrific nanny…and your child learns Spanish too!
We are hoping to find another family to do a nanny share with our terrific nanny. Our nanny, Kary, is originally from Mexico so speaks to my daughter in Spanish. She is also fluent in English, so if you don't speak Spanish she will be able to communicate with you easily. She is in her early 30's and has been doing nanny work for over 7 years, at times managing 3-4 kids at once. Kary is punctual, communicates well, is saftey conscious, and truly seems to enjoy being with children. My daughter lights up whenever Kary walks into our house. It is so nice to be able to go to work with complete peace of mind, knowing my daughter is in good hands. Kary used to do a nanny share with my older daughter (now almost 3) and a friend's daughter before the older ones went to preschool and she took over for our youngest. With the toddlers, she would take them everywhere...to the park, to OMSI, Children's Museum, zoo, library, Parks and Recreation classes, coffee shops, etc.
Age of children: My daughter is 11 months so ideally a child around the same age would work best (plus/minus several months). Boy or girl is fine.
Schedule: Kary would be available for a share 3 days a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays most likely, although Fridays may change to Thursdays). You could also potentially use her the other two days alone if desired.
Payment: for a share the cost would be $8-8.50/hr per kiddo.
Location: Ideally we'd prefer to do the share at the other kiddo's house, as ours is quite small and my husband has an erratic work schedule whereby he sometimes has to work nights and hence sleep during the day. We live in NE Portland (52nd Ave) so would prefer to find a family not too far from where we live.
Contact info: feel free to email me at adechet@gmail.com Thanks! -Amy
Looking for a part-time nanny for after pre-school help
Hello, we live in NE Portland and are hoping to find a trustworthy, reliable, experienced, fun caretaker to help us out with our 3 year old daughter. She goes to pre-school and we are looking for someone that could pick her up at school, spend some time with her until dinner, and cook her dinner. We're thinking maybe 4 to 7pm but are flexbile and can discuss it in more detail if we find the right person. Thanks for your time and if you are interested and would like to talk about it in more detail you can reach me, Shali, at shalib7@gmail.com.
Looking for Infant Childcare
We are looking for childcare beginning approximately the second week of February for a little girl who will be three months old. So far, she is really mild tempered and follows a very predictable schedule. We live in the Bethany area, but commute through the Cedar Mill and NW area into downtown. We have a 6 year old daughter as well, who does not typically need care, but in the event of a school closure, or some other event, it would be nice (but not necessary) if we found a situation that could also accommodate her.
We are looking for a loving care environment and are open to childcare in someone's home, a good center with established caregivers, or a nanny share.
If you have any recommendations, please email us.

PART TIME NANNY/NANNY SHARE OR SWAP IN NE?
I am looking for part-time childcare (5-10 hours/week) for my two sons age 2 and 5. We live in NE and keep our routine pretty local..walks to library, parks, community centers etc. The boys love imaginative play, outdoor time, healthy food and playing with each other.
Specific days and times are flexible. We can work with the schedule of the right person.
If you are a nanny or have a great nanny looking to add a day to her schedule let me know. Also, if any other Mamas are looking for a similar accommodation, perhaps a weekly swap?
Thanks!

Who could ask for anything more????
I'm writing this post on behalf of my lovely friend, Katie...
She is looking for some new little lovebugs! I call her St. Francis because truly there is no child or animal that does not respond to her...even my dog prefers her :)
She is an incredibly warm, giving and wise woman who has been a nanny for about ten years and has cared for all ages and brought her fab sense of humor into every home she's been in. She is the most patient person I've ever met and when she is with children they feel like the most important people in the world. She has that effect on everyone...I am a nanny myself and am constantly inspired by the way she handles daily life with kids, both the wonderful moments and the challenges with love, laughter and grace, living each moment to the fullest.
She's looking primarily for a family who wants a nanny their children will feel nurtured by and bonded to, a family who values the special relationship that forms between nannies and kiddos, and a family who has consistent hours to offer.
As far as all the details (salary, references, etc.) I will let her talk to you all personally...I'm just here to tell you that you can't find a nanny any better than Katie and whoever ends up with her is fortunate on every level. Contact her at twiggyuncle@yahoo.com. Thanks for reading!

Hi Mamas, I am a nanny looking for full time work either with one family or in a shared situation. I have experience with newborns through grade school aged kids.
I love to get out and about with the kids! Outings include walks around the neighborhood, trips to local parks, the zoo, OMSI, Children's Museum, library etc.
Indoor activities can include reading, songs, baking/cooking projects, games, imaginative play etc.
I don't mind helping out with child related housekeeping (though I am the first to admit I am not a great housekeeper but really do try to make sure the house is as clean or cleaner when you get home.) I am also willing to make baby food, start dinner and the like.
I am willing to work odd hours and overnights if needed. I am also willing to travel from time to time.
If you would like to talk with me further, I can be reached at mountainsara@gmail.com
Thanks!
My husband and I have an Autistic child under 2yrs and his sleep pattern is pretty upside down and always has been. My husband and I wake with our son at 3pm and our son does not fall alseep until about 5am so we are having a very hard time finding things to do with such a young child in the evening. Now that's it's cold and almost dark by the time we are even up and about it's getting hard on us. Does anyone have any ideas or know of places that are open late that a kiddo under 2yrs could go to? Also with him being Autistic we are not able to just put him in a stroller and walk around the malls he is very active and won't sit like that.
2nd question is if anyone else here has a child around our sons age we would love to get together and let the little ones play. I have looked into playgroups but everything I'm finding is in the morning.
Thanks so much mamas

SWEET RIVER BAMBOO PRESCHOOL & NURSERY NOW ENROLLING! SW PDX Multnomah Village
A LifeWays and Waldorf inspired program
Nurturing the spirit of childhood
Sweet River Bamboo is a new Certified mixed-age home based preschool in SW Portland. Serving children from 4 months and up.
Our program runs through all four seasons.
Our class is in session from 8:30 am to 3 pm Monday through Thursday and 8:30 am to 12:30 pm on Friday. Our Program is quite small with a ¼ teacher/child ratio and an 8 child daily capacity.
Organic snack, and tea are served daily. Children bring sack lunch from home to ensure they are eating according to their dietary needs.
Sweet River Bamboo strives to create a safe,
nurturing environment where children can explore, create, socialize, and be
inspired by the world around them.
We feel that children learn best when
they are allowed to reach milestones at their own pace and are in an enriching
environment where they feel secure, loved, and respected.
An immense
benefit of a mixed age program is how much the children learn from each other. It provides a very enriching space for children to thrive and
grow. When children arrive they will be new, supported, and open to what they
observe and experience. They will be in a room filled with little
teachers. As they grow, children
will have a voice in forming their own experiences and will become leaders and
role models for the younger children. Compassion, leadership skills, and
confidence in their ability to relate to people at any stage of their lives are
what children take home and enter their larger community with.
One way we nurture the
whole child is by honoring their rhythm. Our daily rhythm consists of
uninterrupted free play, circle times filled with seasonal songs and finger
plays that connect children together and help build vocabulary and body
awareness, and storytelling that inspires the imagination and creative play. We
play outside every day rain or shine and meal times are never rushed. Through
out the day children are guided towards calming activities that help them rest,
take in what they are experiencing, and recharge. Our weekly rhythm consists of
days for bread baking, cooking, music making and dancing, painting, and
craft making.
Our seasonal rhythm
consists of observing and acknowledging the changes of the seasons, and
celebrating these changes with festive gatherings.
Infants have a very
special role at Sweet River Bamboo as they are in a stage of complete
absorption of the world around them. They also offer an immediate lesson to
everyone, teachers and children alike, in loving kindness, patience and
joy.
Mindfulness, kindness, and a natural, beautiful, organic environment carry us through our days together and allow each child to blossom and thrive in their own unique ways.

River Bamboo Preschool and the teachers please contact Sara Alizadeh PH:

Part-time nanny needed
I am looking for a part-time nanny for my 21-mo-old daughter. Ideally, I would be looking for 9am-1-pm in my home Mon-Tues-Thur-Fri, but I could be flexible as to which days or if you could only do 3 days/week. I would also welcome a nanny share with another child similar in age or slightly older.
I am currently just across the Columbia, between I-205 and I-5, and will be moving to Portland Heights the beginning of February. I am thinking someone in NE or SE would work well, or I would also consider hiring someone now until the move, if only our current location works.
Please let me know by email if you are interested or have a referral.
Thanks,
Lorianne Hanson

Loving Nanny Available
Hello Mamas and Families-
My name is Jackie and I am searching for a family in need of a loving nanny. I am a certified teacher who is taking some time off to raise my two daughters who are 3 ½ years and 11 months old. I have spent the last three years nannying for two different families. The little girl I am currently caring for will be going off to preschool in January, which is when I would be available. I am looking for a family who would need care for approximately 30 hours each week and who would be open to the idea of my two daughters coming along. They are both very bright, sweet girls who love other children and it has worked out wonderfully with both families I nannied for.
In terms of experience, I
have taught Kindergarten and First Grade for 5 years, have done lots of
tutoring (I am tutoring two children right now) and babysitting, and have been
a nanny for the past three years for children from the ages of 1 to 9
years. I worked part time at The
Children’s Place Bookstore and was a rep for a baby sling company as well. My life always has and always will
revolve around children!
I love the outdoors and exploring nature, I love reading and singing, I love making art (my undergraduate degree was in Art History) and being crafty, and I love lots of creative play. I especially love being silly and having fun. My approach in raising my own daughters has been very attachment/connection oriented and I find myself to be drawn to the Waldorf philosophy as well (focus on imagination and the natural world). I generally like to follow the child’s lead and interests, providing gentle guidance and suggestions along the way.
If you are in need of a nanny, please email me at jackielou314@yahoo.com. I would love to meet with you and talk more about my philosophy in caring for children. Thanks so much for reading and I look forward to hearing from you!

Afternoon care for Preschooler needed starting in January
I am looking for childcare for my 4 year old and sometimes my 6 year old starting in January because I will be going back to school durring the day.
My 4 year old goes to school until 11:45 at Beach School Headstart. I will need him picked up there and cared for until 5:30 at the latest. I also need someone who is available on non-school days for the full day. There are usually 2-4 a month, sometimes more. If it's possible I would also like drop in care for 6 year old on non-school days that aren't shared with PCC. If this s an issue ithen I can try to figure something else out for him as the need arises.
I will be on the state childcare assistance so I need someone who accepts that.

If it's not something you can do and you know someone who might be interested, as an individual or a daycare, please pass me their contact information so I can contact them or have them email me.

Homeschool Cooperative Preschool in SE looking for more ~3 year olds
So far, we have followed a very organic approach to education, but are considering beginning a packaged curriculum in the next couple of months. (Mother Goose Time and Joy School are two that we are considering.)
If you would like to learn more, we'd love to have you and your child attend our school one morning. We are hoping to enroll our new families in time to start up anew in January.

Any interest in creating a nannyshare with our Family in N/NE PDX?
We have been using an awesome nanny for our 19-month-old for the past year and a half. Now, we would like our nanny to watch our child and one other child two days per week (M/W or W/F).
We live In North Portland (Overlook), and Nicole lives in NE (Cully). Ideally we would all be central to one another, but realize this may not happen and are open to any possibilities. I think a family who lives in NE, NW or N Portland could work. We love our nanny and you will too.
A nanny share is a good way for the kids to have a friend and get socialization (if your child is anything like my child, he/she loves being around other kids) and also cuts down on the cost of having a nanny. It's more convenient, too, than taking your child to daycare everyday, not to mention to illnesses that your child will miss out on by not being in a daycare setting.
While we need care only two days a week, our nanny may be available a third day if you needed her. We can alternate weeks at each other's house to make it fair and easy on both families.
If you have any interest or questions, please don't hesitate to e-mail. I'll get right back to you.
Cheers!

Barbs Home Daycare
Barb Mc Dermott 503.247.9412
North Portland-Kenton Neighborhood
My name is Barb and I run a small family style daycare for children under 6 years of age. I have worked with children for the greater part of the last twenty years as a nanny and now as a daycare provider. I love helping parents raise their children in a happy and loving environment. I strive to create a place that I would want to take my own children.
I believe in Attachment Based Care and the Reggio Emilia approach to childcare with lots of love, care and respect. I help children in exploring and appreciating our world, learning good manners, nutrition and in learning to socialize with others. As well as, we work together for kindergarten preparedness.
We spend our days reading, singing, dancing, outdoor play, walks, gardening, make believe, puppet shows, arts and crafts. Please join our happy group for lots of fun, learning and laughter. I have openings for part time and full time. Only one opening for infants (under two) until March 2010.

Looking for a terrific nanny for our 7 month old boy
We are a couple moving to PDX for the winter (we arrive this Friday the 11th) and are looking for a nanny/sitter for our 7 month old boy Gabriel. We need someone at least three days a week (Tues-Thursday) from 9-5 or 10-6, and we'll be living in SE. We're open to nanny-share situations as well. If anyone has any leads, we'd be more than grateful. You can reach us at vidnick@mac.com, or at 917-749-8876. Many thanks, David and Rachel

SWEET RIVER BAMBOO PRESCHOOL & NURSERY NOW ENROLLING! SW PDX Multnomah Village
Serving children from 4 months and up. Kindergardeners who are currently home schooled are welcome here too!
Our progran runs through all four seasons and is inspired by the Waldorf and LifeWays models as the lead teacher and owner is currently completing the LifeWays Waldorf training.
Our class is in session from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm Monday through Friday and is quite small with a 1/4 teacher/child ratio and an 8 child daily capacity.
Extended hours will begin in January. The program will run from 8:30 am-3:00 pm
Organic snack, and tea are served daily.
Children bring sack lunch from home to ensure they are eating according to their dietary needs.
Sweet River Bamboo draws from an eclectic mix of education philosophies and models. We strive to create a safe, nurturing environment where children can explore, create, socialize, and be inspired by the world around them.
We feel that children learn best when they are allowed to reach milestones at their own pace and are in an enriching environment where they feel secure, loved, and respected.
What we do!
*We nurture creativity and the magic and wonder of childhood
*We have circle, songs, storytelling, and art every day
*We play outside (a lot!) daily
*We go for walks in our neighborhood and observe nature around us weekly
*We have time for uninterrupted creative play
*We recognize the cycles of the seasons with celebrations and gatherings
Our daily activities, rituals and routines, and our dedicated intention to creating a nurturing environment help form the relationships children need between their friends, teachers, the larger community, and the natural world that surrounds them, helping them to grow whole-heartedly.
Our curriculum is inspired by Waldorf, Montessori, and Constructivist philosophies and our main inspiration comes from Waldorf and LifeWays models. LifeWays is a Waldorf inspired model for early childhood development for children from birth to seven. Some unique qualities of this program include the nature oriented and mindful qualities the Lifeways model brings to early childhood development, and our exposure to different languages and cultures as the lead teacher/owner is fluent in Farsi and French and integrates cultural enrichment into our days through creative activities. Body awareness is also nurtured through fun movement practices and simple yoga games.
Mindfulness, kindness and a natural, beautiful, organic environment carry us through our days together and allow each child to blossom and thrive in their own unique ways.

Mt. Tabor Garden School organic daycare part-time openings
Mt. Tabor Garden School is an eco-healthy certified in-home daycare welcoming students ages 1 and older. I am a former teacher, now stay-at-home-mama of a 17 month old girl, who started my own 'school' at home instead of returning to public school teaching. I provide story and music circles, organic meals, outdoor adventures, chickens to feed, gardening activities, and some fun social time for your little one while they're here. I never have more than 3 children, in addition to my daughter, in my care during a session. I offer make-up days for cancellations, as it is my goal no one pay for care they don't receive. I am adding new openings Tuesday afternoons and Thursday morning, afternoon, or full-day. I charge $10 per hour, and provide an organic meal and a snack. My home is located at the base of Mt. Tabor, on Hawthorne Blvd. @59th.

RELIABLE, CARING BABYSITTER/NANNY AVAILABLE
I am a childcare provider with ten years' experience available for childcare work in your home. I am 30 years old, a full-time student at PCC working towards an acupuncture degree. I am mostly available for evening and weekend babysitting work, but I may also be available for some weekdays as well. I am looking for work in Sellwood or SE Portland. I am looking to work no more than 10-15 hours/week.
I am caring and gentle and emphasize creative play and outdoor activities over TV and computer games. I am very responsible and have good references. I speak Spanish fluently and like to engage the kids in music. I have been an ESL and reading tutor and can help kids with homework. I am very good with infants and newborns and am certified in Infant and Child First Aid and CPR. I am a licensed driver and have a good record but I don't own a car. I can use your car for activities involving the kids if need be.
A little more about me: I live a holistic life; I enjoy writing, music, gardening, biking, hiking, travel, dance, and yoga. I am an herbalist and have been a massage therapist. I have been a doula and have a lot of experience with newborn care, homebirth, and post-partum support. I don't smoke.
I charge $10-14/hour, sliding scale, depending on what you can afford and the number of children. My general rate is $12/hour. I am also available for a nanny share, which can bring your costs down.
I look forward to hearing from you!

Any interest in creating a nannyshare with our Family in N/NE PDX?
Hi Mamas and Papas,
We are looking to form a nannyshare with our Nanny, Nicole, and our 19 month old daughter. We live In North Portland (Overlook), and Nicole lives in NE (Cully). Ideally we would all be central to one another, but realize this may not happen and are open to any possibilities. Currently we have our nanny on M and W, from 7:30-5:30ish but are looking to switch to W, F, at the start of the new year. Days might be flexible. We can alternate weeks at each other's house to make it fair and easy on both families.
If you have any interest or questions, please don't hesitate to e-mail or call.
