Rising Song Preschool has Fall Openings

Rising Song Preschool invites you to schedule a walk through of our school. We are happy to meet your family individually and answer your questions. Please call or e-mail to set up a visit. 503.954.3235, or risingsong@yahoo.com

Rising Song is a small Waldorf inspired, home based program in NE Portland opening Fall 2009. We offer a loving, creative environment for children ages 3-5 with the low teacher/child ratio of 1:6. At Rising Song teachers act as facilitators of play, offering gentle, nurturing guidance. In our classroom children participate in baking, gardening, painting and handwork. Songs, stories and puppet shows provide rich material for the imagination and teach about the natural world. Our school is located 1/2 block from beautiful Wilshire Park, and our large backyard garden provides opportunities for exploration and direct involvement with nature. We celebrate each season with special events for the whole family: A festival of light in the fall, a shadow puppet show in the winter and a maypole dance in the spring.

We offer both half and full days allowing families to choose from our 2 day, 3 day, or 5 day programs. Our tuition runs on a sliding scale.

My Specialty

Over the years, and there have been twenty-two of them, I have developed a specialty in this business.  I offer all of the great characteristics you expect in a daycare (and I can certainly elaborate on many of those things when you make contact).  But what I provide for your child is something very special - for a certain kind of family.

I specialize in single child families

This is not to the exclusion of siblings.  But over the years, I have found that the main reason families are attracted to what I provide is the atmosphere of family.  Here, your child will find the siblings she or he does not have at home.  Not only have I found this to be beneficial to the child; the parent, who may for reasons of choice have decided to have just one child or possibly economic reasons, will be comforted to know that the family your child needs is in my home.

The atmosphere is both nurturing and educational, tailored as much to the way your child progresses as it is to the curriculum.

If you are looking for a family environment for your child, we should discuss the possibilities that await you.

I currently have two openings, for a three year old and a four-five year old.  (Even though I focus on the single child families, siblings are always welcome and these two openings offer a unique opportunity for the right family.)

Take a moment and look at the site, send me an email with questions and I will get back to you promptly.

Admittedly daycare is different than big boy/girl school. But you should take note that we do follow a September through June educational plan.  And school starts next week!

I am located very close-in to downtown near Lloyd Center.

I look forward to hearing from you and your child.

Footprint web header header

footprintfarm.com

Footprint Farm is a small in-home playschool/child care for 3-6 year olds, located on a quiet street near Portland's Woodstock neighborhood (7229 SE 65th St.) We think of our little city plot as a mini-farm, allowing children daily, genuine access to animals and garden plots to foster a love of the natural world.  Our approach to being with children is inspired by the Reggio Emilia schools that were founded nearly 70 years ago in Italy.

Here are some of the things your child will do while here:

Plant and harvest veggies and fruit from the garden
Bake bread after grinding fresh flour
Feed and play with bunnies and chickens, collect eggs
Paint on an easel using watercolors
Jump off bales of hay
Build a fort with wood
Swing on rope swings
Cook on a wood cookstove in a canvas wall tent
Plant a selection of fruiting bushes and vines
Sculpt with clay and modeling dough
Make paper airplanes
Roast marshmallows at an outdoor fire pit
Play chase around a huge, fully fenced yard
Play and build in a sandbox
Feed composting worms

Pursue projects they are interested in
Collaborate with children and adults

Sing songs, write songs
Help to make and eat healthy, unprocessed food

Play on a light table

Do shadow play and light tracing

Create puppet shows
Craft, using a huge variety of inspiring supplies
Sleep, if they're tired
Dance
Make friends
Work and play in a group setting

Be supervised and cared for by a husband and wife team of fully licensed teachers

Here are some of the things that your child WON'T do while here:
Be punished
Be condescended to
Any activity he or she doesn't want to do
Worksheets
Watch tv and movies
Play video games
Eat Doritos
Be bored

Roots Toddler Community is a Montessori environment prepared with knowledge for and consideration of the developmental needs of the young child. Through practical and active experiences in a safe environment, the children will develop the tools to becoming socially aware, self-confident and independent members of not only their community at school but also the entire world.

Nestled inside a private home, Roots TC offers a peaceful, child-centered environment in which the children can move freely about, following their own natural intuition and curiosity with the compassionate guidance of a trained Montessori guide.  The school serves children aged one year to three years old (or walking until three years old, exceptions can be made) and offers children a caring, safe place to make the transition from life at home to life in a school setting. Seeking Preschool Recommendations, N/NE Portland, <3yo

I know that the preschool search has been given a lot of air time on the site, but I could use some more input! I'm looking for childcare/preschool programs with an extended day (more than 3 hours) in N/NE Portland that will accept kiddos who are not yet three and who are not potty-trained. My family's ideal set-up would be: diverse teachers and families, affordable (maybe even sliding scale or scholarship options), and 2-3 days/week to start with the opportunity to move to more days later. In a dream world, the program would offer nutritious whole foods and an anti-bias philosophy/curriculum. Any recommendations?

Thanks so much,

We're looking for childcare one day per week (either Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday - we're flexible) for our baby beginning in November or December.  She'll be 6 months in November.  We have most of my four-day workweek covered by family.  Anybody have a nanny who would like another baby one day a week (we would share/increase pay)?  Or is there a parent out there who would like to take care of our baby plus your own once a week?  We live in North Portland (Killingsworth and Vancouver).  It would be nice to have childcare either close to home or close to work (downtown) so I could breastfeed at lunch.

Two,Three, Four or Five days a week Monday - Friday

9:00am – 1:00pm with extended care available 7:30am until 5:30pm

Ages 3 years old -5 years old

Hello Parents, My name is NaeVonne. Our Preschool program “Brings Learning to Life”

We are located in North Portland and are an eco friendly preschool that structures our methods believing children are capable and strong individuals, that learn best when they are excited about what they are learning.  All children are curious and interested in their environment, we foster learning with an emphasis on working in small groups of peers to allow for them to move at their own pace and explore and discover all that they can.

We customize our curriculum and expose the children to learning in a relaxed open ended children centered teacher assisted method. This approach fosters intellectual development and focus on symbolic representation, including early literacy with our onsite library as well as use of the local library, music and movement daily and with our weekly music teacher, open placed arts & crafts, exposure to building materials of different shapes, sizes, colors, and styles, dramatic play to support creativity, which leads to communication and builds language skills. Health and well being by planting and caring for an organic garden, we then use our foods in meals and cooking which teaches math, science, cause and effect, sequencing patience while waiting for your turn and completion of the experience.  One way we encourage large motor development is with fitness, which also allows children to become in tune with oneself, and learning balance and coordination. We also have open use of writing materials of various shapes, colors and sizes, puzzles to encourage problem solving and other materials.  A second language  used every day.

The design and use of space encourages encounters, communication, and relationships. Our materials offer identity and a purpose, rich in potential. Teachers facilitate children’s exploration of themes as they work on short and long term experiences filled with open-ended discovery and problem solving knowing how to plan and proceed through the use of interaction and observation.

nanny recommendations/references in Eugene?

Hello pdx mamas

I am going back to work in a month and the grandparents are willing to help out and watch my son (who will be 3 mos old then) through December. Starting in January we need a nanny for him. We're new to Eugene and not really plugged in with any families here and so we don't really have any leads besides searching on craigslist. That's stressing us out!

I am hoping that someone here will have some info or leads for us.

thanks for any help you can give

Need information on Childcare in SW Portland area

We will be relocating to Portland in Spring 2010 and I am looking for information regarding daycares for my son.  He will be 15-18 months old (depending on when we move.)  We are focusing our search in the SW area of Portland (Beaverton, etc.)  I am hoping to find a daycare that allows cloth diapers. Please email me with information such as website, location, rates (I still have no idea what general rates are in that area), policies, etc.  I also will have two older boys who will need before and after school care but it is not necessary that they all attend the same daycare.  Thanks.

Rising Song Preschool- a waldorf inspired in-home program has Fall openings and invites visitors to take a tour

Sweet River Bamboo Preschool and Nursery has openings for fall! SW PDX

Sweet River Bamboo is a new Certified home based preschool in SW Portland serving children from 4 months to kindergarten ready. Our program starts in mid September and runs from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and is quite small with a 1/4 teacher/child ratio and an 8 child daily capacity. Organic snack, and tea are served daily.

We are currently looking for a new space in SW PDX and will begin as soon as we have one as everything else is in place!

Sweet River Bamboo draws from an eclectic mix of education philosophies and models. We strive to create a safe, nurturing environment where children can explore, create, socialize, and be inspired by the world around them. We feel that children learn best when they are allowed to reach milestones at their own pace and are in an environment where they feel secure, loved, and respected. Our days will be filled with a balance of group activities and free play with lots of outdoor time built in. Our curriculum is inspired by Waldorf, Montessori and Constructivist philosophies to name a few, and will consist of strengthening our relationship with our natural world, uninterrupted time for creative play, art and music making, baking, circle time, and story telling. Some unique qualities of this program include our exposure to different languages and cultures as the lead teacher/owner is fluent in Farsi and French and integrates cultural enrichment into our days through songs, storytelling, baking, art projects, and music making with various instruments. Body awareness will also be nurtured through fun movement exercises and simple yoga poses.

Mindfulness, kindness and a natural, organic environment carry us through our days together and allow each child to blossom and thrive in their own unique ways.
