SUN CIRCLE PLAYGARDEN: In-Home Preschool for ages 3-5

Openings are available for the Play Year round (Fall)!

2-5 day programs are offered Monday-Friday 9-1
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

At Sun Circle, children are provided a gradual bridge from home life with a small group ratio (no more than 6 children at a time). Within a cozy home setting, children are given individual attention in a nurturing and unhurried atmosphere.

Our days are woven together in a gentle tapestry of rhythm, movement and song, providing a secure and comforting environment that young children can thrive in. Together, we will enjoy child-directed play, baking, music, painting, gardening, circle time, yoga, folk and fairy tales from diverse cultures, outdoor play, nature and walks.

Parental involvement is vital in every aspect of our program, including open communication, planning, sharing of ideas, general volunteering and attending seasonal celebrations...

Looking for Full-time Childcare in N/NE Portland for 18 month old

I need to find childcare beginning this September for 4-5 days/week. I live in inner NE Portland (Alberta Arts), and would like to find something that is in or nearby the area. A small group/home setting would be nice. I'm open to all care methods and practices. I do like the Montessori concept of learning through discovery, and as a parent/care provider being more of an observer rather than a lecturer.

If anyone has any openings, or can make a recommendation please email me at suzadele5@yahoo.com or comment below.

Thank you.

SWEET RIVER BAMBOO PRESCHOOL AND NURSERY HAS OPENINGS FOR FALL!

Sweet River Bamboo Is a new Certified home based preschool in SW Portland serving children from 4 months to kindergarten ready. Our program starts in early September and runs from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and is quite small with a 1/4 teacher/child ratio and an 8 child daily capacity. Organic snack, and tea are served daily.

We are on Hamilton Street right across from Bridlemile Elementary School. There is over 300 sq. ft. of dedicated classroom space that has its own entrance to the backyard. The rest of the inviting light filled house is also accessible to the children as they play. We have a large backyard with blackberry bushes, a cherry tree, two pear trees, an apple tree, and a curly willow tree! There is also a small fresh water spring that runs through the middle of the yard that will be perfect for little bridges and throwing rocks into!

Sweet River Bamboo draws from an eclectic mix of education philosophies and models. We strive to create a safe, nurturing environment where children can explore, create, socialize, and be inspired by the world around them. We feel that children learn best when they are allowed to reach milestones at their own pace and are in an environment where they feel secure, loved, and respected. Our days will be filled with a balance of group activities and free play with lots of outdoor time built in. Our curriculum is inspired by Waldorf, Montessori and Constructivist philosophies and will consist of strengthening our relationship with our natural world, uninterrupted time for creative play, art and music making, baking, circle time, and story telling. Some unique qualities of this program include our exposure to different languages and cultures as the lead teacher/owner is fluent in Farsi and French and integrates cultural enrichment into our days through songs, storytelling, baking, art projects, and music making with various instruments. Body awareness will also be nurtured through fun movement exercises and simple yoga poses.

Mindfulness, kindness and a natural, organic environment carry us through our days together and allow each child to blossom and thrive in their own unique ways.

To learn more about Sweet River Bamboo Preschool please contact Sara Alizadeh PH: 503.432.6414 Email:sara.m.alizadeh@gmail.com

We look forward to having new children join our program!

Song Garden Preschool offers an education for your whole child. We strive to create an optimal environment for children to imitate and explore.

To nurture the balance and wellbeing of the growing child, rhythm underlies our mornings together. This includes storytelling, puppetry, art projects, preparing organic snacks, rest time and free play. Within our daily ‘circle-time’ the teacher shares finger-plays and songs with themes that connect the child to their natural environment, allowing the children to fully enter activities with their imagination.

Each day we enjoy outdoor free-play on five acres of Sewallcrest Park, a pesticide-free inner city green space with old growth trees.

We invite you to call, email or visit our website. Talk with us about our school and find out more about our next Open House or free Parent Education discussions.

Nanny Available Aug/Sept

I am a mature, responsible nanny with 4+ years of childcare experience seeking a position with a second family in August or September. I will be returning to work with a 1 year old in mid-September, on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I am open to also doing a nanny share if a family needed care during that time.  Otherwise, I am open to working 1-3 additional days a week. I have recent (and current) experience with an infant. I am CPR/first aid certified for infants, children, and adults. I enjoy kids of all ages, and I like to keep them active and engaged with outings and creative activities, as well as allowing for imaginative play and down time.

I don't own a car, but I am comfortable with taking kids out on public transit.  I identify as queer and I want to work with a family that is queer-friendly. I have wonderful references and would be happy to provide them after an initial interview. Let me know if you're interested in discussing further. Please email me at jneel555@yahoo.com.

Thanks,

Jess

Seeking Childcare in SW Portland (Multnomah Village)

We're seeking childcare for our 2 year old daughter on Thursdays (approx 8-5) and possibly Tuesday from 1-6.  Tuesdays would require that we have her picked up from preschool.  We are open to either a nanny for her alone or a shared nanny with 1-2 other children around the same age in the Multnomah Village Area.

We do have a dog and a cat, while they will not be part of the caregivers responsibiltity, we'd like someone who enjoys animals as they are part of our family.

If this sounds of interest to you please contact Rachel at rkdvorsky@kozdon.net so we can talk further and determine if we'd be a good match.

Afterschool Care Woes for Kindergarten Mom and Child

I am quickly approaching the time when my son starts kindergarten and pre-school/daycare draws to a close.  There are no afterschool programs for Kindgartners in our school district.  They all start at first grade.  I have reviewed a few websites for nanny and childcare placements but feel so skeptical.  Does anyone have any suggestions about a reliable source for finding qualified childcare people?  Or can anyone share any creative ideas about how you balanced being a working parent and a kindergarten program that ends at 2:00 p.m. everyday.  I would love and welcome any insight or recommenations!

I believe in Attachment Based Care and the Reggio Emilia approach to childcare with lots of love, care and respect.  I help children in exploring and appreciating our world, learning good manners, nutrition and in learning to socialize with others.

We spend our days reading, singing, dancing, outdoor play, walks, gardening, make believe, puppet shows, arts and crafts.  Please join our happy group for lots of fun, learning and laughter.  I have openings for part time and full time.  No openings for infants (under two).

One toddler opening left, starting September 1st!

Hi there mamas!  I have one opening in my home available for a toddler ages 1.5 to 2.5 years beginning September 1st, 2009. Currently we are a group of three 2 year old girls. We are looking for another playmate to join us in our fun days to come! I use a gentle, natural approach to their care and create healthy daily rhythms. My primary focus is creating trust between your family and myself . I know how difficult it is to find daycare you can feel confident about, and it is my hope to provide that for you.
I am enrolled in the Oregon Criminal History Registry, am CPR and first aid certified, and have an Oregon Food Handler’s Card. I provide organic, local meals and snacks each day.  Our typical days include singing and dancing, story time, art projects, outdoor play and walks to the park (2 blocks away)free playtime, peaceful naps, potty training, no TV, and lots of hugs! We are hoping to add field trips in the fall!
Hours of operation will be 7:30-4:30 Monday, Wednesday and Friday.   My rate is $120 a week.
I would love to talk with you and go into more detail. Please email me if you are interested!

Nanny Available

Hello Mamas!

I am a Columbia University undergraduate home in Portland for the summer and available for childcare - anything from sporadic evenings to more regular daytimes. I have eight years of childcare experience, including three in Manhattan, and can provide great references. In New York, I have a regular job during the school year looking after a lovely family with three kids ages six, three, and 18 months, and I traveled with them to Europe as their vacation nanny earlier this summer.

I am an experienced driver and love to cook (especially with kids!). I have experience caring for infants, providing water safety, and doing city excursions. Good communication with parents is important to me. My favorite indoor activities with kids are reading, drawing, and building forts, and outdoors I love going to the zoo, cooling off in the sprinkler, and playing on the swings.

Please feel free to contact me for more information or arrange a get together. Thank you! mauramcn@gmail.com

Small Eco Healthy Preschool

Munchkin Manor is a small preschool in the Creston-Kenilworth neighborhood (close to Woodstock as well) which currently has openings for children 2 years and older. Our daily schedule includes circle time, music, movement, stories, outside activities and craft projects. We also have monthly themes that incorporate age appropriate content and are geared to children’s natural interests. We cover many basic preschool skills in our daily routine--including things like counting, literacy (introductory reading and writing skills), and the all-important skill of learning to be part of a community.

I am the lead teacher and I am a licensed elementary teacher (taught 6th grade math and science until starting a family) and have 2 children of my own. I also have varied experience working in preschool settings (Montessori, Reggio Emilia). I have two other teachers on staff-one is also a mother and is going to school to become an interpreter and the other is going to school to be a midwife.  Both have had experience working in previous preschool settings and are amazing people.  Munchkin Manor is a certified family child care center which means that all staff has been enrolled with the criminal history registry and is CPR certified, we provide healthy meals and snacks, and we meet all safety and health regulations set by the state. In addition, Munchkin Manor are also certified as an Eco-Healthy Child care.

Tiny Wishes OPEN HOUSE

Tiny Wishes

(In home child care)

OPEN HOUSE:

Sunday July 26, 2009

3pm to 5pm

Location:

near the corner of MLK and Alberta

For more information please email me or call:

heatherdugas@gmail.com

503.970.1670

Beginning September 8, 2009 we will have two openings for care at Tiny Wishes. Tiny Wishes is an in Home Child Development Space. We are hoping to fill our openings with wonderful friends between the ages of 6 weeks to 3 years old for two to five day a week full time care. We are also hoping to find a friend between age 4 and 6 for after school care between 11 am and 5:30pm.

Tiny Wishes is for a very small number of friends to encourage a setting much like having a Nanny. We have a very comfortable home setting with much to discover. We incorporate many different styles of learning/child care. For all friends we use an approach that involves a mutual respect between care giver and child as well as between friends and respect for our environment.

As a parent I have been influenced tremendously by Alfie Kohn’s Book, Unconditional Parenting. As a care giver I apply many of these ideas during the course of our every day. This includes setting respectful limits and the aforementioned mutual respect between all of us. At Tiny Wishes we will set limits without rewards and punishments. We will discuss the nature of every action with the child and certainly cater to the different age groups involved. If a child is a threat to another child or themselves, this will be addressed between the parent and caregiver.

Through many different methodologies, the main theme is discovery, fun, and learning. We provide an environment in which is safe, consistent, and open to explore. We incorporate indoor and outdoor play, arts and crafts, songs and dance, reading books and telling stories. We will take trips to the park, go on nature and exploration walks, garden, and take field trips as they relate to what we are learning about at the time.

We provide a mostly organic healthy menu for the children to enjoy and encourage their involvement with the planning and preparation

and I will forget.
Show me,
and I may remember.
Involve me,
and I will understand."

NE childcare / sunflower house

I apologize in advance if this question has been asked before...

Does anyone have any info (good or bad) about Sunflower House?

I am looking for child care for my 3 1/2 daughter. She has been in a in-home daycare setting for 1 1/2 years and has loved it but, now, her friends, are moving on to other care facilities. Her birthday is late December so it is hard to get her enrolled in a pre-K school program.

We looked at the Alameda Montessori - thought it was pretty good but have some reservations.

Can anyone help? Suggestions?

Thank you!

Melissa

Blossom House Hawthorne Preschool recommendation

I can strongly recommend Blossom House Preschool (http://www.blossomhousepreschool.com/) - Cindy has two preschools - one in Laurelhurst, the other between Division and Hawthorne (just off the Lincoln-Harrison bike way).

The Hawthorne school just started this spring, and still has openings. I love the flexible hours/prices (food is included), the space is beautiful, the teachers are wonderful, patient, and kind. Everyone has been willing and able to work with us to help our son get comfortable and he has settled in nicely.

I'm more than happy to share our experiences offline.

Our curriculum is the way we celebrate a year of our lives in Portland and is based on placemaking and community. We celebrate what it means to be from the Pacific Northwest and what it means to be "me"and how that all comes together in COMMUNITY.

In-Home Montessori Childcare In SE for 2 & 3 year-olds Fall 2009

I am seeking five 2 and 3 year olds for childcare in my home beginning in October of 2009 through May of 2010. I have my diploma for primary AMI Montessori teaching (ages 3 to 6), my Masters in Education (specializing in primary Montessori), one year experience in the classroom and three years experience as a nanny. I hope to cultivate relationships with families in the area in order to start a small Montessori preschool and infant room in the Fall of 2010.

I will provide age and developmentally-appropriate Montessori works, toys and group activities, help with the potentially new experience of interacting and socializing within a community of other children, while promoting independence in each child. I like to share food preparation activities, music, reading, art, outdoor experiences and yoga. I am happy to help with potty training and experienced with food allergies. I try to run an eco-friendly house and am a fan of organic, local foods. I have plants, a silly and very cute small dog and a beautiful fish tank for children who enjoy animals. My home is conveniently located just South of Mt. Tabor & Division on Bus Route 71. The property has a fenced backyard with a garden and Clinton Park just around the corner.

I am registered with the Childcare Division of Oregon, have my first aid and CPR certification, my food handler's card and plan to make my home a Registered Family Childcare Home with the Childcare Division of Multnomah County by July. My rate is $300 a month for fifteen hour weeks, $550 for 35 hour weeks. I am asking families to commit to a minimum of fifteen hours per week. These hours can be scheduled for your convenience between 7 and 5:30 daily, Monday through Friday.

Please email me and we can set up a time to meet at your home or mine. I am happy to provide references upon request.

NE Portland nanny share

Hi there:

We are looking for another family with an infant (0-6 months) to share our wonderful professional nanny full-time -- 5 days a week -- in our Grant Park/Hollywood home. In other words, we are looking for a family who can split our nanny's full-time salary in half -- or at least close to half. Under the arrangement, each family is an "employer," so each is responsible for paying their share of state and federal payroll taxes.

The share can begin anytime between mid-September 2009 and the beginning of January 2010. Our nanny has been a professional nanny for over 15 years and is absolutely fantastic with infants. She has been taking care of our older son (now 2.5) as part of a nanny-share arrangement for two years. During that time, our son has developed a very close bond with his caregiver and with his nanny-share buddy (who is close in age). Our son is heading off to preschool soon, but we are now expecting our second child. Our goal is to establish a relationship with a new family with a baby close to our new baby's age, so the baby can have the same great experience our son had.

As mentioned above, we would like to host the nanny-share in our home in NE Portland. But we are willing to consider having the other family "host" some of the time if they live nearby.

If interested, please email yodersmith@comcast.net, and we will respond with more details about the arrangement

Thanks.

Julie

Aprende con Amigos?

We are considering enrolling our child this fall and are wondering if anyone has any expereince with them. They just started their summer camps. It's a brand-new program.

Thanks!

Young Wonders Preschool

My daughter attended Young Wonders preschool this past year and had an amazing experience. It is a sweet little school located in NE Portland. There are so many wonderful elements to the school - I will highlight a few. Just know that your child will be nurtured, his/her spirit will grow, he/she will be exposed to academics in a playful fun way and he/she will develop very sweet friendships and learn how to be a friend to others.

The teachers Chris and Robin are very kind, patient, and they do an fabulous job socializing the children. They speak articulately and maturely to the kids (which has consequently helped my child expand her vocabulary). They are lighthearted and fun and very thoughtful in the way they interact with the children. It is a small enough school that they get involved quickly in interactions going south. They help the children use their words, articulate their needs and nurture friendships.

The physical space is clean and organized, appealing to the children with sweet little corners for free play, science, reading, blocks, etc. The day includes structured time during which they sing songs and discuss recent events such as the butterflies they raised, the art project of the day, or the pizza dough they made. There is also much time for imaginative play. Young Wonders is a perfect blend of imagination, academics, free time, quiet reading, music, dramatic play, and structure. The outside area has a garden (which grows carrots, strawberries, and beans that the children plant and eat), a fun and messy sand box, and plenty of raw materials which allow the children to use their imagination - I have seen milk crates evolve into a bus, a space ship and a stage (all within 15 minutes).  It is good clean fun (actually they can get happily messy there - which I love).

My five year old daughter had a lovely year, has great memories, friendships, and is very prepared for her upcoming kindergarten experience. Thank you Young Wonders!

Looking for part-time nanny in Beaverton

Hi. We are looking for a nanny to care for my 12 month old son. We need someone from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm, Mon to Thu. I will actually be home at these times, but will be working in my home office and occasionally taking breaks to nurse him. He is a sweet, curious, and active baby boy - loves to crawl and explore everything. We live in an apartment complex so he gets a little restless staying indoors all the time. I'm looking for a nanny who is kind, patient, willing to play with him, read books, sing songs, take him for walks on the trails by our apartment, and take care of giving him his breakfast, lunch, and snacks. We're living in short term housing, with most of the baby toys in storage, so we're looking for an extra creative nanny that can keep our son entertained and happy. I definitely need someone for the whole month of July and if the arrangement is working well for all of us, I'm willing to extend it to something more long term. The sooner you can start, the better.

At the moment we are living in Beaverton (right by the 26, Cornell road exit) until end of September, after that, we plan to move to Portland but are still exploring schools and neighborhoods.

A little bit about our family. We just moved from Los Angeles, before that, lived in New York city, but my husband and I are originally from the Philippines. We are laid-back and friendly and are very excited about living in a new town. My name is Pia and you can contact me at pmatoto@gmail.com.

Thanks!

We need someone M-W from 7:30 - 5:30 until Sept 1st. Our daughter absolutely loves being outside and going for walks so we'd love to find someone who also likes these things. My name is Megan and I can be reached at mmmillard@gmail.com.

Summer is slipping past...

I know that the season seems to drift past quickly.  The kid's organic garden is growing with the corn now taller than they are!

And we should all enjoy summer as much as possible.  Yet, wouldn't it be so much more enjoyable knowing that you had secured your child's preschool spot for the fall?

I have two openings remaining (actually three but someone has tentatively looked at one of the spots being vacated by three graduates) which would be perfect for a sibling situation.  Please take a moment to look at my site and contact me when if you would like to discuss your options or to set up an appointment.

I look forward to hearing from you and enjoy the season!
