Hawthorne Area - Preschool/Daycare Recs?
Hi - we are moving to the Hawthorne area and are looking for recommendations on daycare/pre-school for our 3 year old. Would love to find a place that offers Spanish if possible, but most important of course is to find quality care for our child. A place that is creative, stimulating, supportive...teaches social and environmental responsibility...any hidden gems in the area? Any info on the following:
Wild Lilac Preschool
New Day School
Child Roots
Others?
Thanks!!

How about SMMS? They only offer Spanish as an after-school activity in several six week blocks throughout the year, but it's a lovely little Montessori preschool and kindergarten. The school is situated in the basement of the Sunnyside Mennonite Church at SE 34th and Main and operates Tuesday through Friday mornings from 9 am - 12:30 p.m. (They get out at 1:15 on the days Spanish class is offered.) The telephone number is 503-260-6601.

Wild Lilac is lovely, but like most schools has a long waiting list. The teachers are very dedicated and professional, and they provide two meals and two snacks -- very healthy foods! Take note that the program for kids under 2 is only half day, unless you score one of the few extended day spots (and even then, I think pickup is 4:30).

There are quite a few families in the Hawthorne/Division/Tabor area that are at Harmony Montessori. We've been there 3 years, and our younger child is starting this fall. We love it. No Spanish (yet) but it's a wonderful place. Flexible schedules (9-12, 9-1, 9-3, before & after care). Organic gardens, worm bins, playground, eco-childcare, quite a mix of families. 503-255-5337

Again (since someone keeps deleting my comments), we are very happy at Blossom House Hawthorn (blossomhousepreschool.com). Hours are 8:30-5pm with option for longer. Location is close-in and convenient. Food is included, prices are reasonable. Teachers are excellent, caring, and kind. Everyone has been very professional and patient and our son is very comfortable there.
