FT Working Mama Seeking Playgroup, 2.5 yo, SE PDX

This might sound "too specialized" - but as a practically full-time working mama - it is difficult to be a part of a typical playgroup with the meeting days during the week.  I also find it unique to be a mama to one child by choice & it is great to build relationships with similar moms, dads & their wee ones.

A little about me - my son is 2 1/2 & we live in SE.  Want to play?  Contact Liz at one.love@mail.com

PPS Childcare Survey

Portland Public Schools is conducting a parent survey on before and after school care.  The results will (hopefully) have an impact on what happens in our individual schools next year.  I've been having some issues with our aftercare provider and when I called Nancy Hauth, the PPS child care coordinator, she listened to my complaints and also encouraged me to complete the on-line survey and pass it along to other parents.

The survey should be available until December 8th and can be accessed from the following link:

Available: NE eco friendly childcare

We currently have to leave our childcare provider due to falling victim to our 'economic crisis'. We would love to find someone to take our son's place (I believe they would need a 2-2.5 year old male to replace our spot); since we are obligated to pay for the next 3 months unless a replacement is found. So this is sort of a marketing tactic to introduce a childcare option to those that are currently searching!

Small preschool has openings for 2 yo or older

We have a small preschool in the Creston-Kenilworth neighborhood (close to Woodstock as well) that has openings for children 2 years and older. Our daily schedule includes circle time, music, movement, stories, outside activities and craft projects. We also have monthly themes that incorporate age appropriate content and are geared to children’s natural interests. Currently, we are in a big summer unit -we just finished learning about bugs and rainbows, and are now on to plants. We cover many basic preschool skills in our daily routine--including things like counting, literacy (introductory reading and writing skills), and the all-important skill of learning to be part of a community.

I am a licensed elementary teacher (taught 6th grade math and science until starting a family) and have 2 children of my own. I also have varied experience working in preschool settings (montessori, reggio-emilia). I am a certified family child care center which means that I have been checked with the criminal history registry, I am CPR certified, I provide healthy meals and snacks, and I meet all safety and health regulations set by the state.

If you would like more information, give me a call or email me.

SAHM seeking PT/FT Nanny Position

Hello Mamas and Papas,
I am a SAHM, with a ten month old and am interested in finding a PT/FT Nanny position where I would be able to bring my daughter. I am flexible and willing to travel or switch off on locations (I live close-in SE). As a parent, I understand what kind of nurturing, loving and safe environment you want to create for your child and I would love to be able to find a family to connect with. My daughter and I like to spend our days going on outings to the park, having picnics (weather permitting), exploring the neighborhood, going to the library (book babies is great!), reading, dancing to music, singing songs, making yummy and nutritious food and playing age appropriate games. We love to laugh and play and believe having fun is an important part of our day together, as well as learning new things. I absolutely love creatively engaging with children and watching their minds at work. Everyday is so much fun, even the hard days! I’m a open-minded, reliable and positive person who leans more towards attachment parenting. I have great references and will gladly do a background check. I welcome the opportunity to get together to see if this is something that might be a good fit for you and your family. Please email Beth at bfportland@gmail.com with any questions. Thank you.

Available: Child care in NE, toddlers

Hi Mamas,

I am a Mama of two little girls (3mo. and 2 years) looking to care for 2 toddlers in my home 2 or 3 days a week starting at the beginning of January. We will be outdoors as much we can and we will go on many neighborhood outings.  We love to read books and do art projects.  We feed our toddler as much organic food as possible and would do the same for yours.   I am a certified Elementary School teacher so I have plenty of experience with kids.  I also am a fluent Spanish speaker and would be happy to work with your little one to learn some basics.  My preference is to do M-W-F but the days of the week and hours are flexible if we can find the right situation.  Please give me a call or email if you are interested!

Cheers,

Nanny Share Needed in West Hills

Hello urbanMamas!  I am working with a family in NW Portland that is looking for a nanny share.  Their hours are flexible but what they really need is care for their infant plus one to two others for a minimum of 24 hours per week.  Care would be at their home.  The family has worked with other families before in nanny share situations and love the idea of having the kids together (mom has two grown children as well).  This is an ideal situation for a family with a part-time childcare need and a convenient and affordable alternative to daycare.   For more information please email me at danielle@abnanny.com.

Drop-In Childcare?

Hello,

A few friend and I are curious if there is such a thing as "drop-in" childcare for when a nanny or childcare provider is sick or on vacation.  Does anyone know of someone who provides drop in/temporary care in the SE Portland area?

Thanks!

Advice/Feedback on sending young child to Montessori (at 16 mos)

Our son just got in off the wait list for Montessori of Alameda to start in January (he'll be 16 months). I really like their program and am impressed with the school but I'm worried that 16 months is too early, especially since he has to go a minimum of 4 days per week. That seems like an awful lot to me. I currently work 3 full days/week but will have to change my schedule to work 4 days (9-2:30 instead of 9-5:30). Our son is a very social kid and enjoys being around other children (at the library, in swim class, play dates, etc.) so I think he will thrive with the interaction with other children I just don't know if I should be doing this at his age. If we pass up our spot then most likely he won't be offered another one until July (he'll almost be 2 yrs). We currently have an at home nanny 3 days/week.

Does anyone have any experience in sending their child either to Montessori or other daycare at this age - for 4 or 5 days/week? Advice on how to make the transition easier? Or if we should pass up the space and wait until he's a bit older? Currently he cries every time I leave him with the nanny at our house and I worry that it will be even harder in a new place (without the comfort of home). The crying stops a few minutes after we leave and then he is fine the rest of the day but the goodbye is very hard.

Seeking SAHM for FT/4 days childcare, N PDX

We are looking for a SAHM with a toddler to watch out little ones! I wish I could stay home myself and we absolutely support this type of arrangement, in fact we have had this situation before. It is a great social situation for our son and it also supports you and your family. Plus it makes going to work not as hard.

We need someone to come to our house because my husband has to leave by 7am and I usually leave earlier than that. He just cannot get out the door by 7am trying to dress and ready 2 babies and drop them off.

We would need help full time, but four days a week Tues-Friday 7am to 5pm (my husband rarely gets home at 5 pm, it is usually 4 or 4:30, but just in case).

We live within walking distance to a community center that offers activities during the day. Previous nannies have said that our babies are sweet and easy, I agree, but who am I to say.

Some details: Our 2 year old is really sweet, silly and loves trains, books, snuggles and trucks. He is quite verbal at this point. We are having loads of fun with him. Our 7 month old is a happy, mellow, chubby little guy  who loves to snuggle and laugh at his brother. The only time he will complain is if he is bored and wants someone to snuggle him. I usually just wear him in the back pack when I am cooking.

We are somewhat attachment parenting, no TV, no sweets kinds of a family.  However, my husband and I are quite mellow and really want our boys to be in loving, patient hands.

Additionally, with me in graduate school (nursing) and my husband working as a teacher, we cannot afford to pay a super high hourly wage and are offering a salary (negotiable), 2 weeks paid vacation (xmas and spring break), paid holidays, meals and other perks.

Please let me know if you are  interested, kara @ karaeve@usa.net

A Spanish Immersion Preschool

We just open our doors this month in Sellwood, and would love for you to come to one of our Open Houses.

About us: We are a dual immersion program for pre-school aged children (3yr-5yrs).  The teachers speak Spanish during the class time, using English when necessary. Teachers make learning Spanish fun while providing a structured and warm classroom environment. Uno, Dos, Tres Academy believes that creating an environment where children have fun while being exposed to the Spanish language paves the way for greater receptivity to learning the language in a more structured setting later in life.

While Uno, Dos, Tres Academy recognizes that language and literacy are core components of children's learning experience, we also believe that children grow and develop through a variety of ways. Throughout the day we provide children with a rich art program, dance, music, nature, literature, stories, and one-on-one interactions with peers and staff.

We are open Monday thru Friday from 7:00am -5:30pm and provide an enriching program for families who are interested in a Spanish immersion education for their young child. We offer small class sizes, which allow for many one-on-one interactions with peers and teachers. We have two large classrooms with one Lead Teacher in each class and a Teacher Assistant that assists in both of the classroom half of the time.

Schedules:

Part-Time Preschool 8:00am-12:00pm or 12:30pm-4:30pm (starting in Mid November)

A New Preschool at Kenilworth Presbyterian Church

Kenilworth Presbyterian Church Early Childhood Center, A Community for Children and Families, Announces the Opening of a New Cooperative Preschool!

The Early Childhood Center is a half day, play based preschool that welcomes three and four year old children into a creative, warm and inviting environment. There will be multiple opportunities for children to play such as, blocks, and builders, dramatic play, painting, clay, drawing, along with a wonderful outside playground! As a cooperative preschool, parents will have an opportunity to be actively involved in the development and growth of the preschool program.

Childcare available for a happy little friend (infant - preschooler)

I care for a great little group of friends here in my home in inner NE Portland near MLK and Rodney.  I currently have a very small group and am looking to add a couple more personalities into the mix.  I would love to add an infant to the group but would gladly accept ages up to 4 years old.

We love to sing and dance, read books, have puppet shows, do puzzles, art projects, preschool activities and play with all of our toys in our great play-space and baby-room.  We have an organic garden and chickens that the kids get to "help" with in our great big back yard.

I provide healthy home-cooked meals and include many organic foods but we do eat some conventional foods as well.  I provide a loving and comfortable environment and lots of hugs but I have found that when working with a group it isn't feasible to accommodate attachment parenting.

I was a nanny for many years before becoming a mom myself and I have been providing care here in my home for the past five or so years.  I can provide many loving references.

I am available Monday - Friday 7:30 - 5:30 and charge $35/day.

Thank you,
Rachel (rachalla@hotmail.com)

My great Friday morning nanny has a new job & won't be able to watch my baby anymore after December.  So, I'm looking for something new.  I'm wondering if this might be a good time to start a nanny share or a small childcare setting as my boy is going to be one at the end of November and no longer needs quite as much undivided attention as a little baby does.  Our current nanny has a little girl who is a year older than my baby and they enjoy each others company.  For a nanny share I think somewhere between 8 mo & 2 years would be ideal.  I hope to find something in the SE or possibly southern part of NE further out (close to 82nd).  Our current nanny lives in Montavilla and that works well for us.  Woodstalk or somewhere between the two would be good as well.  Hours needed are about 8:45 - 1:15 (depending on drive distance from our home) on Fridays.  A little flexibilty would be nice as I occasionally have a different work schedule, but it isn't necessary.

Thanks for any interest or information,
Claire

Available: experienced loving creative nanny

Hi there!

I'm seeking a friendly down-to-earth family to begin working with, one who values and respects their nanny. I'm available to begin immediately, but would also be open to setting something up for dec. or jan. I'm available to work anytime after 11 or noon on mondays, anytime on tuesdays and wednesdays, anytime up until 1:30 pm on thursdays, and anytime up until 3 pm on fridays. I'm also available weekend days. I'm looking for part-time work right now, anything from 8 - 21 hours/week, give or take...

I'm a 29 year old female part-time student, progressive-minded, artistic, active and healthy, politically engaged, fascinated and enamored with the world around me. I like to ride my bike, play music, draw, eat delicious foods, study science, dream about universal healthcare, work in my garden, and hang out with animals, kids, and my friends! I'm queer, and am only interested in working with a family that is queer-friendly.

Seeking nannyshare/babysitting swap/babysitting or... something... for an infant, beginning in May

I'm looking for some kind of part-time childcare arrangement for at least May of 09. I'll be in school when my second kid is born (sometime around the end of April), and I will need part-time care on weekdays and/or weekends in the daytime, probably to the tune of 5-10 hours a week for May and early June, possibly beyond. I won't be wanting to be away from him/her for long, and I will need the time mostly to do homework, so I expect that the work will be in 2-hour shifts, usually with me close by, and will be pretty flexible in scheduling. I am open to any arrangement that works - babysitting swapping, regular old babysitting (a nice teenager with some tiny-baby experience would be fine), a nannyshare, whatever! I live in Sellwood. If you're interested in exploring some kind of option, please contact me at ostling32@gmail.com.
Thanks!
