SE day care

I'm looking for full time day care for an infant, starting mid-May '09.  Does anyone have any suggestions for a safe happy day care in the SE area?  I live in the Clinton area and would love something in the hood but I realize I'm pressing my luck.  Help!  If you have places to avoid, let me know that as well.

Thank you!

N & NE PDX Playgroup ages 18-24 mos

A couple of us mamas have started a play group in N and NE Portland and we're looking for a few more kids to participate.  The group is for toddlers aged 18-24 months (with a little wiggle room on either side).  The group will be supervised by a play group nanny, who has a great deal of previous experience working with young children.  The group will consist of a lot of free play, with some story-reading, singing, outdoor play, art, music and other semi-structured activities.

The group will:

include only 4 children
be 4 hours long
be held on Tuesday & Thursdays (although at this time we only have Thursdays available),
cost $5/hour/child.
The groups are hosted by 2 of the families who are participating, and parents do not attend the group (Yeah!  Free time for mama and/or papa!).
Please email me soon at caridarcus@comcast.net if you'd like to learn more, or if you know this interests your family.  Thanks!

A Beautiful Day Montessori, NE Pdx

I want to RAVE about about son's school, A Beautiful Day Montessori in NE Portland.  My son was the second child to enroll in this brand new school last year.  Unfortunately, enrollment has not increased and I wonder if moms and dads just don't know about this wonderful opportunity that exists for the exemplary education and experience available for their preschoolers (3-6yrs).

Mariah, the owner and AMI guide, has beautifully  transformed the main floor of her home into the most inspiring classroom I've ever stepped into.  It also has huge windows that look out over the backyard where my son enjoys digging up potatoes and picking strawberries while learning botanical names for several of the plants and trees.

I strongly encourage you do check this Montessori preschool out.  It does not matter if you plan on continuing a Montessori education after preschool.  This stage of brain development is such a foundation for the rest of their lives.  I feel that my son will greatly benefit for the years to come from  his time at A Beautiful Day Montessori with Mariah.  He has leaned so much as his natural curiosity of the word has been inspired daily. He tells me, " I think Mariah knows everything, even though she is a human."  I told him he should tell her that :)

My hope is to help like-minded parents on the east side discover this brand new little treasure.  Once word-of-mouth gets out, I think this school will touch the lives of many Portland families.  If you want a school that will help you instill the love of learning in your child, then this could be a great place for your child to spend some quality time in their younger years.

If you would like more information please call Mariah at 503-358-7335 or www.abeautifuldaymontessori.com
I hope you will !!!

PT Nanny Available

I am an experienced, loving nanny seeking a part-time or full-time position with a wonderful family. I'm 31, a college graduate, a writer and an artist. I have 3 years of recent child care experience, and excellent references. I like to spend my days with kids going on outings to the park, having picnics, exploring the neighborhood, going to the library, having story time or crafting at home. I think that laughter is an important part of our day together, as well as learning new things. I have experience with children from 6 months-10 years old. I've taken two child development classes, and one child psychology class. I'm familiar with different parenting styles, and I use positive reinforcement rather than punishment.

I ride a bike, and I am comfortable taking children on public transportation, or using a bike trailer if there is one available. I am open to working in most areas of Portland that are close-in. My rates start at 12/hr, depending on the number of children, and their ages. I am looking for a family that practices clear, respectful communication and sincerely values their child care provider. I am queer and I work with queer-friendly families only. I look forward to hearing from you! Please respond at jneel555@yahoo.com.

Child care swap, North Portland

I'm a mom of a 13-month-old little girl looking to begin a child care swap with another mom as soon as possible.  I work two ten hour days but would only need child care for 8-9 hours on one of those days (grandma watches baby on the other day).  I live in North Portland and would love to find someone close to home, if at all possible.  I have 15+ years experience working with children (including two nanny positions and a current job in child welfare) and will gladly provide references (I'll ask the same of another mom as well).  Please email me at kjolmsted@yahoo.com if you are at all interested!

Have a Great Day!

Seeking PT childcare in NE, April 2009, 1yo

I thought I was getting the ball rolling pretty early...

I'm looking for childcare for my son in about 6 months when he'll be a year old for 3 days a week. I live and work in inner NE Portland so ideally some place not too far out would be great. I've called around and some of the waiting lists are 1-2 years! I've gotten on one that is 9-10 months out (I'm sure I could find backup care for a few months). But I'd like to have more options. I'm looking for something that is somewhat affordable (in my mind that's less than $700 a month) and provides a quality program of course. In-home providers are fine as long as they're state certified and reputable. Does anyone have any recommendations or know of places that will have an opening in about 6 months?

Thanks so much!

Alyssa

Seeking PT Nanny (3 days/wk), NE Portland, 4mo

Hello - We are seeking a caregiver at our home in NE Portland for our 4 month old daughter starting right away.  Need 3 or 4 days a week for 6-8 hours a day.  Please send your qualifications to:  julieblamontagne@yahoo.com.

Thanks!

Come share my wonderful daycare! N. Portland

My 2 year old son started going to Orange Blossom daycare about a month ago and totally loves it!  It is an in home daycare run by a terrific mom of 17 month old twins.  There is also a 3.5 year old little girl in the mix.  They do not watch TV, eat home cooked meals, and play with well thought out, mostly wooden toys.  They have a nice fenced yard with a raised garden bed and plan to raise chickens soon.  My son who is typically very mommy-attached loves going each day and smiles from the window and waves to me as I go.  He is always happy and excited to tell me about his day when I pick him up.  She is currently looking for 1-2 more children to add to the group.  They must be over age 2 since she already has two under 2 in the house. She is open M-F 7-5 and is flexible with scheduling.  I was not asked or paid to write this email, I just really love her and would hate to see her have to stop taking care of my son because she doesn't have enough children to make it financially worthwhile.  I am happy to answer any other questions and can be reached at sundaymorning08@gmail.com.  Thanks!

Need FT Nanny for 3 kids

Hello, After being a stay-at-home-mom for 6 years, I just received a job offer today and am heading back to cube world in 3 weeks.  I'm completely overwhelmed in every direction, but mostly wondering how I'm going to find someone very special to replace me during the day.  I have 3 kids, ages 7, 4, and 11 months.  I would need a nanny from 8-5 and she would also need to drop my 2nd grader off at school, my 4 year old off at Pre-K (noon to 3P) and then pick them both up in the afternoon (they are both at the same school).  This is probably way too much info, but I'm just a bit lost.  Do most folks use agencies and if so, which ones?  Has anyone used Craigs list with success?  What's the going rate for FT nannies (40 hrs/week)?  Thanks for any info you'd be willing to share!

Seeking childcare in N Portland or Bethany area, Jan 2009

I am looking for a day care center or in home care provider for my son starting in January of '09. I work in North Portland and would prefer a place close to there but I live in the Bethany area so that would work also. What I am looking for is a provider or center for M-F and most likely the hours would be 9-5 or 6pm. I will not be needing daycare during the summer (mid-May to mid-August) but would pick back up again in the fall. I am a single Mom so the money is obviously tight! :)

Any help with suggestions or know of any locations please pass them my way! Thank you! Lori (loribarnes_atc@yahoo.com

Typical cost of full time nanny (40+ hrs/week)

Just wondering if anyone would be willing to share how much they pay a their full-time nanny.  I am returning to work and have no idea what the going rate is...I've read between $10-14/hour but we have 3 kids (not all would be at home during the day).  Just wondering!  Thanks!
