Positive, active teacher available for Summer Nanny/Nanny Share

I am a 30 year old progressive, environmentalist Montessori teacher with 1000s of hours of experience working with children. I teach full time throughout the year and am looking for a summer family with children between the ages of 2-8 or a group of families who live within several blocks of each other to do a nanny share. I come with lots of fun and easy-going/high-energy (depending on the spontaneous needs of the moment) activities that include, but are not limited to cooking/baking with whole foods (can do substitutions for dietary restrictions), arts and crafts, spontaneous and fun science(zoology/botany/etc.)/math/reading, music (I am a singer song-writer in my spare time), yoga, dance, water play, outings via buses/max/walking/bicycles and more. I have a very sweet and well-behaved puppy who loves children who can also come or not come (depending on family preferences). My hope is to offer a lot of experiences that support children's natural development of a love and appreciation for life in all forms. I am also trained (Montessori education is all about children's independence) in helping children become more independent in their homes and participatory in family life. I come with letters of reference, CPR/First Aid training, Food Handler's Card, Certifications and diplomas. I am looking forward to hearing from you and having a great summer! Please email me at happybambinos@gmail.com if you are interested. Thanks, Emily

Looking to set up a nanny-share in North Portland

We are looking to share a nanny with another family. Our son, Scout, is 9 months old. We have tried twice now with other families but these have fallen apart due to different scheduling needs. We realize to succeed with a nanny share, both families must need the same or very similar schedule. We only really need two days/week, but would be happy to have and will definitely pay for 3 for the right family. We would also be willing to consider a 3 way share, for a higher hourly rate for the nanny and lower rate per family, but only for a combination of kids and ages and nanny that felt comfortable.

Our family and what we are looking for:

Zac is a web programmer. He works from home. Tamar is a physics professor at the University of Portland. We are a progressive and educated family that prefers biking to driving, reading to TV, hiking and climbing to sitting inside. Eating well, and teaching our son good habits as well as an appreciation for food is important to us.

We are interested in nanny sharing for several reasons: we would like our son to learn to share and play with others; we would like to share the cost of a nanny and at the same time make it possible to pay a living wage; we like the stability, customization, covenience and attention we get with a nanny-share as compared to a center.

We live in North Portland in the Arbor Lodge neighborhood and are hoping to have the care at our home or nearby. We have three cats, so both nanny and kids would need to be comfortable with them.

We are looking for a nanny on Tues,Wed,Thurs. (Mon instead of Wed is okay) for **no more than 8 hours per day**. Assuming two families split a nanny pay rate of $14/hour for three 8-hour days, including all the taxes, each family would pay $738. We would not split the cost of a fourth day or hours beyond this. If you (the sharing family) need a longer day, or a fourth day, you must be willing to pay for the additional hours on your own.

The Nanny:

We'd like an intelligent, personable nanny with a true understanding of early child development practices, who will be engaged with the kids, take them for walks, read to them. We'd like someone who has a definite plan for helping with their physical, intellectual, and emotional development.
We would like to have her (or him!) make *at least* the equivalent of $14/hour, and will be paying the taxes and reporting the income. For the right nanny, we would be willing to pay up to $16, split 2 ways. We also plan on contributing about $50/family/month toward health insurance and negotiating a fair vacation plan.

If you are a family with similar needs, interest and budget, or a nanny who is interested in the position, please email us. Please note that while we are somewhat flexible about the schedule and budget, the limits of that flexibility are as we've described above.

Thanks,
Tamar, Zac and Scout

Close-in NE looking to share wonderful babysitter

hi there.  We currently have a wonderful Spanish-speaking childcare provider spending 13ish hours a week with our 20 month old and her same-aged friend in one of our two homes on Wednesdays and Thursdays.  Our friends will be moving in August and we are looking for another child to continue the arrangement.  If you think this may work for your family and are interested in learning more, setting up some playdates or parent meeting times, please email and we can start to get to know each other.

My wonderful Lake Oswego child care provider seeks one more child

Our beloved childcare provider has been caring for our 2 1/2-year-old daughter for the past 18 months near downtown Lake Oswego (First Addition neighborhood within walking distance of parks and public library.) But because I am now on maternity leave with our second baby and I'm only planning to go back to work 3 days a week in the fall, we are looking for one or more other children to join the gang and boost her income.

We were one of those families that was on the fence about both parents working, but this caring and reasonably priced childcare has made it possible for me to feel confident about leaving my child in a nurturing place.

She's an older single mom of a delightful 14-year-old girl, an honors student whom our daughter also adores. We have had a quasi-nanny arrangement where she cares for our daughter in her safe and clean home so she can be home for her own daughter after school and during the summer. She attended a formal nanny school earlier in her life and has cared for children for many years.

She would like to find one other family, preferably with a toddler, who would schedule regular weekly hours with her, but hours are flexible and it doesn't need to be full-time. We would also like it to be a child who is a compatible playmate for our little one.

If you are interested, please contact Sarah at hansonberger@yahoo.com and I would be glad to talk with you more about the details and connect you with our provider, who is not very computer-savvy. (That's why I'm putting up this posting.) This is a great option if you are hesitant about large institutional daycare settings but still want your child to have social interaction.

Mountain Valley Community School has Toddler and Pre-school Openings for the Fall

Hello Urbanmamas,

I am writing to let you know about Mountain Valley Community School where I send my little bundle of energy. Mountain Valley is a progressive alternative to standard preschool and child care. They care truly and deeply about our children's happiness and their responsibility to themselves and their community.

They provide healthy, organic foods ( which amazingly the children actually eat!). They provide a lot of outdoor play time, a curriculum that helps children develop a sense of place in the Pacific Northwest, music and art, conflict resolution and multicultural activities.

They are located in the Montavilla Neighborhood in SE Portland, and have openings for fall. Please check out the website and/or call Susan for more information. Tuition is on a sliding scale. Upper income fami payli near the top of the scale will help us subsidize some slots for families in poverty. http://people.tribe.net/mountainvalleyhomecare or 971 285 5949

Mountain Valley really is a community school and we would love to have your family join us

Need F/T Nanny to start in Aug (near alberta)

We are looking for a loving, creative, responsible nanny for our two children (4 yo girl and 1 yo boy), starting in August. We need someone who can make a commitment to be with us from August until mid-June; hours would be around 7:15am to 3:30pm Mon-Fri, with school holidays off. Our daughter will be attending morning preschool and you would walk her the 3 blocks to and from school (Sabin) every day. She loves to do arts and crafts, play at the park, read and tell stories, and sing. She is animated, empathetic, helpful and has an independent streak. Our son is curious, smiley, generally happy, loves his big sister and being outside.

Our ideal nanny…

  • Loves to play outside and be active
  • Sings songs, reads books, does art projects
  • Will build a loving relationship with our children (and us parents!) and fit in well with the family
  • Has an optimistic, grounded, adventurous spirit
  • Will creatively engage our children, help them grow and explore
  • Is certified in infant/child CPR and first aid, or willing to take a class
  • Has experience working with toddlers and preschoolers
  • Is reliable, mature, responsible, with great references and background check

Big bonus points for a nanny who speaks French, although that is not necessary. We live one block from a park; easy walk to cafes, library, groceries, etc.  If you might be interested, please email me with information about yourself. We look forward to meeting you!

Thanks, E ebuck1@yahoo.com

Looking for a babysitter?

My name is Libby Jackson and I am an experienced, nurturing, creative and responsible nanny.  I have spent the last seven years working with children exclusively, in a variety of settings--as a therapy aide, academic tutor and as an in-home nanny.  I currently work for a family during the day, but am looking for extra evening/weekend hours. Do you crave a date-night?

I begin my graduate program in Occupational Therapy this fall and would love to find families who are interested in occasional help.

I have ample experience navigating Portland and all it has to offer little ones, from the ZOO to our surrounding parks.

I believe in the power of creativity and knowledge. I am an interactive caretaker. Trips to the library, side-walk-chalk doodling sessions, cookie baking, etc.

I have experience caring for children from infancy on, paying particular attention to their developmental needs. I have experience caring for children with both physical and cognitive special needs that require a bit more patience and understanding.

I am smoke/drug free, have a clean background, reliable/insured transportation and many wonderful references.

I keep in contact with every family and/or child that I have ever worked with. Building a strong rapport is key.

Want a great group of babysitters that you meet face to face?

Shortly after my daughter was born we found that we were in need of some great babysitters.  I knew that many agencies in town sent sitters out, but wanted a chance to meet the sitters myself- and even see them interact with my child- before I hired one.  I am so pleased that I am now able to actually do this!  Rose City Nannies has started hosting Sitter Socials- where a group of pre-screened sitters meet and interact with parents (and their children).  The events usually last about one hour, and are hosted in various locations around town, all child friendly.  The best part- you go home with a Sitter Album- with all the babysitters info including resume, cover letter and availability.  This is a great service!  The next event is in June.  Check it out!

Help! I need FT care from now until September!

We have a 21-month-old daughter starting a full-time preschool program in September. I've just accepted a job and they need me to start next week. So, we need full-time care for the summer - starting day after memorial day. Open to either in-home or daycare environment (as long as licensed), anywhere between 70th/Glisan and downtown - preferred areas:  Montavilla, East burnside, laurelhust, Piedmont, Hawthorne/Belmont. Our daughter is a happy, busy girl who doesnt have a lot of stranger anxiety. She loves to have to space to roam and explore so an enclosed yard or a facility that takes the kids on outings (zoo, children's museum, park) preferred.  Like other kids. Not potty trained.

Contact me directly - edievanness@gmail.com or 503.750.3480. Not interested in "faith-based" programs.

Thank you!

Vermont Hills FLC St. Andrews vs. West Hills ECLC

We are looking at moving our 2.5 year old son into a center-based/preschool program on a part time basis. I have visited both St. Andrews (Vermont Hills Family Life Center) and the West Hills Early Childhood Learning Center. At West Hills he would be in the Laurel room and at St. Andrews in the 2.5 year old room with Liz and Stella. I saw some pluses and minuses to both places, but am feeling a bit torn overall. I'm wondering if there are any urbanMamas out there who have (or had) their children in one of these centers and can offer some feedback? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

SE Childcare Swap!

Hi! I'm looking for a few other families to join our childcare swap. Our last swap was wonderful but just came to a close as one mama was traveling across town and it got to be a bit too much. So re-group we must!! We mamas have to come together to give each other a break! Of course the kids love it too.

So far, we have one lively girl who is two and one sweet boy who is almost two. We'd welcome kids ranging from infants to 4 year olds to add some variety to our lil gang. Ideally, we would have a total of four kids so that each mama could have one morning on and three mornings off.

The way we worked it before was each mama took the kids for 3 or 4 hours once a week. Each day the kids would get yummy snacks, do arts and crafts, go on walks, and so on while their mamas did yoga, shopped, breathed, meditated, showered, etc (sounds good, eh?) We all are typical pdx mamas- mostly organic but flexible.  Since summer is coming up, many of us will have visitors and weeks away, but lets try to make it work nonetheless! Please contact me if you'd like to join.

My email is clairevoyant@gmail.com

Opinions about Alameda Montessori?

We recently toured the Alameda Montessori program and it seemed good.  We are on the waitlist at Fruit and Flower in the NW area as well for our twin 20month old boys.  Would anyone have any opinions about the Alameda Montessori program? I am leaning towards that one because it allows half days, versus Fruit and Flower, which is full time only.

Thanks in advance for any feedback (sorry I posted this in the wrong spot initially)

Nanny available for nanny share in/around Tigard

I have the most amazing nanny!  Looking for someone with 1 child who is interested in sharing a nanny in or around Tigard.  My daughter is 7 months old.  Lori is 26, been working professionally with children since 18 years old, and is truly fantastic with kids.

Her hours are Mon-Thurs 8:30-5:30 PM (might be able to alter depending on your needs).  I would need to find someone who would need the same hours (or at least a good portion of them) and wouldn't mind having their child at my house in Tigard (that is flexible too as long as your house isn't further away from the Belmont area).

Please email m_clinch@yahoo.com if your interested and we can discuss the possibility further.

Teen looking to babysit -- N Portland

My stepdaughter is available to babysit for for "date nights" or weekend days (daytime in the summer).  She has a couple families she sits for now, but would like to find a few more. She is 15, attends MLC and is Red Cross certified. She commutes to the home by bus, but would need a ride back if she is needed late into the night. We live in North Portland (Overlook neighborhood, near Adidas campus/New Seasons) and would like to work in close in, east side or north PDX neighborhoods.

She is most comfortable with children who are potty trained, but has sat for those as young as 6 mos (her half brother). Since we're connecting via the internet, we'll ask that we meet you first to make sure it's a safe situation for her and the fit is a good one. She has been making $5-6 an hour.

Needing Childcare in SW Portland by July

Hi,

I'm still in shock after my daycare provider announced she is closing her in-home daycare.  My son has been with her since he was 12 weeks, so the news has been devastating as I look to transition him at 18 months in a rather short period of time.

My preference is to keep him in a home environment (in-home care or nanny share), but would also consider a smaller center.  I'm a single Mom, so location is important.  My preferences would be to find a location between my home neighborhood, Gabriel Park, and the Water Front.

Thank you, in advance, for any interest and/or suggestions.  My cell number is 503-201-4821 or email trisportsk@hotmail.com.

Kindly,

Shana

Wonderful part-time nanny available in SE Portland

Since our little girl will be starting pre-school this summer, I wanted to post this for our current nanny.  She may not fit the Mary Poppins image, since she is a Sherpa lady from Nepal with two boys of her own (one who is 16 and another who will begin Kindergarden in the fall at Buckman).  Yagji is very loving and caring and charges very reasonable rates.  If you are interested in exploring further, please email me at sukebean@gmail.com.

after school care NE/Prescott area?

I have a whole year to figure this out but next year my daughter will be attending Rigler in the spanish immersion program. We will have to do after school care, and I am not really thrilled about her being bussed to another school to participate, and haven't heard anything about the quality of care..Does anyone have any comments about the "Y" after school program? Or does anyone know of other after school care options in this area?

Affordable preschool for twins

Hi,
I have 2 1/2 year old twins and I'm having a difficult time finding a preschool that both fits with my values and is affordable (two kids generally means double tuition!).

No TV and a preschool curriculum (not a daycare) are my only stringent requirements. I'd LOVE to find a place that serves local vegetarian food.

We live in SE Portland, so eastside only please. Any ideas mamas?

Thanks,
Rayna

Toddler/Infant care in N. Portland--1 spot left!

Hello Mamas!

I am starting my in home daycare on June 9th.  So far I have a wonderful group of little girls!  A 7-month old, a 13 month old (my daughter) and a 28 month old.  We have one more spot full-time spot available and our ideal situation would be another 2-3 year old to play with the oldest.  I will be practicing Waldorf methods of care and serving fresh organic food.  We will have tons of outdoor play time, and music!!  Thank you everyone for you interest so far; I look forward to meeting you and your children!

***It may be possible to work out a partime care arrangement if we split the week with another family!**

Take care!

Samantha

Part Time Nanny Needed Starting in July

Hello,

Our little one arrived much earlier than expected (born at 29 weeks) and he is only two weeks away from coming home from the NICU!!! I am planning to return to work part time in July and would love to find someone who is interested in working as our nanny 2 days a week. We have an apartment attached to our house and would be most interested in exchanging rent for nanny services.

We are looking for a person who has experience with infants (ideally premature babies) and is CPR certified. Our baby does not have any health issues, he is just tiny and needs more attention than a group day care can offer.

Please email me (hometownphilly@comcast.net) and let me know if you might be interested in discussing this nanny position.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post!
