As with many others on urbanmamas I am looking for infant care in NE Portland. Many of the sites and resources that I have reviewed provide childcare vs. infant care or the wait list is already 20 people long. Would love to hear recommendations for infant care (open to both facilities and in-home). We are looking at starting in November/December of this year. Maybe your little one is graduating up and you know of an opening soon? Thanks.

Hello,
My name is Rayleen Clark and I am new at this. I have a 6 month old little boy and a 2 1/2 years old son as well. I have a very busy schedule that demands that i work on Saturdays. I am looking for someone who would be will to care of my children while I am at work on Saturdays from 8:30 till 5:30 pm. Its hard begin a single mother, of two now a days. Good quality daycares are hard to come by, and the hours and days they are open doesn't always fit a parents schedule. If you are interested in this please feel free to contact me at rmc1983@gmail.com. Thank you very much.

Bonsoir!
I was delighted to discover your website today following a parent recommendation.

We provide regularly schedule care (part and full-time), parents night out (twice a month) and Saturday French clubs/language classes.

We are looking for another fun, goofy, amazing kid to join our 16 month old son and nanny a couple days a week. It would be great to find a playmate in the same age group to run around and socialize with. Until now my son has only been babysat by other family members. Considering a nanny for him was a huge step for us. I am in school now and simply need a little extra time out of the house to study or run errands, exercise, etc. It would probably look something like a couple days a week for four hours each day. Right now we are doing Tuesdays and potentially Fridays also from 9 - 1.
We found our nanny on craigslist and she is great. She is a midwifery student here in Portland which I really respect the level of dedication and fortitude. She is kind and real. I come home and they are frequently playing funny imaginative games (like hide the book under the ottoman and pretend we don't know where it is - cue the hysterical giggles). They go for walks to Peninsula Park and point out every single flower and dog and helmet on the way.
We are a vegetarian, mostly organic eating, signing, outdoor loving, dancing, family. We love to read, go to the park/walk, and especially sweep! We try hard to engage with my son - have conversations with him about the things we see and do. Although the smallest person in our family he has so much personality and I love watching him learn.
If this situation and parameters sound like something that would work for you, I would love to meet you and your little person as well. Please email or call me.
Thanks so much!

I am the mother of two boys, a 6 yr old and an 18 mo old. I have a family style child care in my home. I am currently looking to add two more child. The children that I watch are all part time, so I am able to keep my ratios very low. The most children that I ever have at one time is 4, and that includes my own. I have availability on Mondays and Wednesdays. My hours of availability are from 7:00am until 5:00pm. About me: I had my first baby in 2001, and shortly after I graduated from PSU with a Bachelor's degree in Community Health Education and a minor in Sociology. I worked at Early Head Start for 2 years with children ages 0-3. I then started working at a center based childcare where I was the infant teacher. I left that job when I had my second baby in Sept 2006. At that point I decided to start my own in-home childcare. I am passionate about what I do, and I have never been happier since I started doing it. My philosophy: I believe that children learn through play and through their interaction with each other. I try to nurture children while I foster their independence. I encourage a lot of creative play and offer many opportunities for children to engage in this type of play. We spend plenty of time outside and get a lot of opportunities to exercise. I tend to blend a lot of philosophies and I don't believe in following one too strictly. I love to spend time laughing, singing and dancing with the children.

Our current nanny will be leaving soon and we are in need of child care ASAP. I have a 20 month old (adorable of course) son who is very loving and busy. We are needing a nanny on Mon, Tue, Wed full days. I would consider a nanny share situation if the schedules work out. Any suggestions or leads would be great. Thanks Kirsten

I am looking for suggestions for childcare for my baby girl beginning in September. I have yet to find a good site that summarizes the options in the Portland area. One factor is I really only need 6 hours/day, so am not looking for an entire day of childcare. I am open to both centers, as well as in-home or nanny share. Primarily, I just want to feel comfortable with where my baby girl will be during that time, and also comfortable with the rate. Please share any suggestions you may have!

I am wondering if anyone has any experience with any of the nanny services available in Portland. I am moving from the east coast and need some help with finding a wonderful nanny 3 days a week for my 19month old daughter starting in July. Craigslist was suggested to me but I find it a bit hard to get a read on the people posting especially when I am so far away and not able to meet with these prospective nannies in person. In addition, they seem to be looking for work NOW and not interested in talking about a position in July. So any suggestions about services or other ways to find nannies would be extremely helpful! Thank you.

Hi there! I will be opening my home to you and your family June 16th. I have a sweet little 13 month old baby girl, and we are looking for some playmates to join us in our fun days to come! This is a new beginning for us and we would love to find some friends that can stay with us for the next few years. I adhere to a Waldorf philosophy of care, creating healthy daily rhythms for our little ones. I believe that parents and caregivers should work together concerning their children’s care, and I want parents to be very involved. I am CPR certified, and have an Oregon Food Handler’s Card. I serve 90% organic home cooked meals everyday. A typical day would include singing and dancing, story time, art projects, outdoor play and walks to the park (2 blocks away), imaginative play, peaceful naps, potty training, no TV, and lots of hugs!
Hours of operation will be 7:30-5:30 Monday – Friday. At this time we are taking 3 full-time applicants at a rate of $225 a week.
I would love to talk with you to go into more detail. I know how difficult it is to find daycare you can feel confident about, and it is my hope to provide that for you. Please email me if you are interested! Have a great day! mascaritree@hotmail.com

We are a professional couple moving to Portland in July who have found some daycares we absolutely LOVE. Our problem is that the hours are just a little bit off of our schedules (we need to leave home around 7-730 and leave work 5-530, but the daycare hours are 830-430). We are looking for someone reliable to help with either end, transporting our little 20 month old to/from daycare, monday-weds. We anticipate being in the SE area.

I am currently looking for some referrals on in-home daycares in the Hathorne area. I have an 18 month old little boy that we would like to put into a daycare part-time starting mid-June. We live in the Sunnyside neighborhood and would like to stay in the SE area. If anyone has any suggestions on great places/care gives, I would love the help. We are not so interested in the larger centers. Thank you.

Hello.. my husband and I have just moved to Portland and have landed in the SW hills. I have been lurking around UrbanMamas and it has been an incredible resource as we are pregnant and due with our first child the end of May. Thank You! But now I have a question I haven't found a recent answer to. We are hoping to find a daycare center by September so that I can return to work. Are there any suggestions for centers in my area? Should I expect to have difficulty getting into a place because I'm looking for something on relatively short notice (four months)? Thank you for any and all advice, swmamatobe (sammcandrew@yahoo.com)

Help. I am moving from Chicago to Portland next month, and am in need of full time daycare/preschool for my almost 4 year old son. He is currently in a full time Montessori program that accepts children from 6 weeks to 6 years old and they are open from 7am to 6:30pm (my son is typically there from about 8am to 4:30pm). Does anyone have any recommendations--while I am very happy with the Montessori program I am open to other good centers. I appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thanks.

Myself and a couple other mammas with infants (ages 8 months to 12 months) are interested in putting together a co-op Montessori close-in East side. Does anyone have any experience with putting together a co-op or a resource for "how to's"? Is there a good resource that you may know if for used Montessori materials, furniture, etc?
I would love any feedback. kiradennison@yahoo.com

I live in North Portland, close to U of P, and am looking to meet other mamas in the area that might be interested in a weekly childcare swap beginning in May. I have a darling 5MO baby girl who keeps me very busy, and I would like to incorporate some study time into my weekly routine as I work towards a professional certification. Ideally I am looking for a 3 hour block of time, 1 - 2 days per week in exchange for the same. Care of my LO would be at my home and care of your LO could be at your home or mine, whichever you prefer. I am very flexible as to the days and times. Please let me know if you might be interested and/or would simply like more information about location and possible schedule.
PS - I would love to build a playdate-type relationship before jumping into the childcare swap.
Thanks,

Olive.You.Nanny is a unique agency that matches families with amazing nannies. What makes us so unique? Highly personalized service. We pride ourselves in conducting in-depth, face-to-face interviews with all the families and nannies we work with. Unlike other agencies, we meet in-person with every family and nanny we work with!
Before we send a nanny out to meet a family, they must first meet our high standards (CPR-certified, at least one year child care experience, excellent references, at least 18-years-old, and a great personality to match!), interview with the agency, and have their references and background checked.
We're an agency created by and run by former nannies, with offices in Chicago, Atlanta and now, Portland!
Check out our website, www.oliveyounanny.com, for more information about the agency, plus a helpful FAQ section about hiring and keeping a new nanny.

As a Mother we can always use a night off! Finding a qualified, caring babysitter that you know and trust to stay with your child can be challenging. Rose City Nannies has found a solution to this problem... Sitter Socials, our first event in May will allow local families to mingle with a group of pre-screened babysitters. All sitters have gone through screening including reference and background checks. The social will last for about 1 hour, giving families ample time to connect with the providers. Best of all, you will leave with a complete list of all sitters in attendance. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. May 17th at 11am. Please visit www.rosecitynannies.com for more information.

I live in NE and have a 10 month old daughter. Would anybody with a baby around that age be interested in doing a swap a couple of afternoons a week (you take my girl one day, I take your another?) It would be great for her to start making friends and I'd love to have a few hours to get things done!

This would be for someone who only needs a little fill-in care for their child on either a Monday or Tuesday (your choice), say 9:30-1:30 (flexible), hopefully for the rest of the spring and most of the summer at least.
We already have an excellent nanny for our 3-year-old, and are looking for someone to join them one day a week. Nanny would get $8 per hour per child when they are both together, $12 per hour if only one child can make it.
What I want to do is find a family who I think is a good match, then they would call the nanny directly to make sure they like her.
The ideal match would be a child 3 or 4 years old who doesn’t tend to be very loud (for that age) or pushy (my son is sensitive to sound and touch). My son is sweet, very verbal, and loves people. Into both tractors and dolls, jumping and coloring.
Can be my house or yours (non-smoking of course), or can switch each week. Our house is in the Hawthorne neighborhood. Vegetarian friendly (we do poultry and fish, but don’t have to when they are together), super-low-sugar, etc. (figuring that the kids can’t help but share their food). No TV, non-violent language and actions, striving toward non-prejudice, queer-friendly... which all perhaps seems obvious, but best to be clear, right?
On days that the nanny can’t make it, perhaps the parents could also take turns being the backup.
If interested, give me a call at 971-678-4600 (I turn my phone off when trying to get my son or myself to sleep, so don’t stress about what time you call) or email me at edithereal@hotmail.com.

Summertime can be a lot of fun for children but a big headache for their parents. Trying to coordinate camp schedules, vacation schedules and work schedules is difficult! That is why Care Givers Placement Agency offers placements for summertime nannies on either a permanent (full summer) or temporary (varying weeks throughout the summer) basis. We do the screening and match nannies to your family's needs. Find out more about Care Givers at http://www.cgpa.com or call us at 503-244-6370.
