Seeking Thursday childcare in NE

We're looking someone to watch our three-year old daughter on Thursday mornings from about 8:30-1:30, plus occasional additional babysitting, starting in early May.  We're located around NE 25th and Prescott. All the usual requirements apply: nonsmoker, responsible, creative, not dependent on TV, familiar with CPR, etc.  Ideally, you will also live nearby.  We are open to you bringing your own reasonably well-behaved offspring. If interested, please email Jennifer at gildenjen ... AT... gmail.com.

Thanks!

Affordable childcare for 5-8 year olds in SE Portland

I have a 5 year old and an 8 year old and may well need some childcare for half days this spring (for one child) or summer (for both). Is there any affordable childcare that is quality and not just babysitting. Any one have suggestions in either SE Portland or not too far into NE?

nanny share for 2009?

Hello everybody,

I'm pregnant with our first child, due September 6. As a consummate over-planner, I'm already starting to think and fret about child care for when I return to work in January. I'm a librarian and will return to work in January two days a week, W and Th.

I'm wondering if anybody else has a similar need/time-frame and would like to join forces to find a nanny.
We live in inner SE, near Mt Tabor and would prefer care in a home (ours, yours) someplace in inner SE/NE.

Or, if anybody with an existing in-home childcare situation would like to defray costs those two days a week by adding our little babe, that could also work. I'd also be interested in tips on a good center for infants, just in case.

If this fits or you have any ideas for me, send me an email! amandabirdy@hotmail.com

Many thanks!
Amanda

Seeking feedback on Purple Moon childcare

After many rounds of open houses & preschool tours, we may have found a good fit at Purple Moon on NE Broadway.  Our little one had a good time at the open house and it seemed like a fun and caring environment.  I think that we will be offered the opportunity to enroll there, and before we commit I'd like to see if anyone has any first hand experience with Purple Moon that they can share.  Positives?  Negatives?  Anything?

Seeking PT Nanny in MT Tabor/ SE PDX

We are looking for someone to care for our 11 month old son in our home 2 days a week from 10:00-2:00ish while I work.  We can be flexible on what days, but it needs to be during the week, not weekend days.  We also have a 4-year old daughter who is in pre-school 3 full days a week so if your days of availability fall on the days she is home, then she will need care as well.

We would like someone who understands and respects attachment parenting and it would be a bonus if they are familiar with the Waldorf philosophy of education (which is the style our daughter is familiar with).  We would like someone that is able to play with our children on the floor and can carry around a baby that is 25 lbs.  We also need someone who can prepare nutritious lunches and snacks.  We try to be as media free as possible in our home, so TV watching is not part of our children's day.

It would be great to have someone who can also provide some occasional evening/ weekend babysitting. Experience with 1 - 4 year-olds is a must.  Childcare provider must be reliable, non-smoking, First Aid/CPR certified, have excellent references, and willing to submit to a background check.

If you are interested email me and we can discuss schedule, pay, etc.  Thanks!  Kim

Have you ever considered hosting an au pair?

AuPairCare is an au pair agency regulated by the Department of State. We have been successfuly placing au pairs with American families since 1989.

What is an Au Pair? An Au Pair is a young adult between 18-26 years old who provides experienced childcare, speaks English, is educated, trained and screened by AuPairCare. Au Pairs come from more than 50 different countries.

Au Pairs provide up to 45 hours of childcare per week. The hours are flexible. Their duties include: taking care of children, driving, preparing meals for children, assisting with homework, light houskeeping duties.

The average cost to host an au pair is only $320 per week (including agency fees and au pair stipend).

As a former au pair and a Mother of two I believe hosting an au pair is a wonderful way to have high quality childcare and experience an exchange of cultures.

For more information please contact Tanja White at 503-293-8904 or e-mail me at tanjagwhite@hotmail.com. You can also visit www.aupaircare.com

Part-time Nanny/Babysitter needed in NE

I'm a work-at-home mom who needs some extra help with our 20-month old daughter. I'm flexible on which days; her grandma watches her a few days a week, but my workload is ramping up, and I need more care than grandma can give. Care would need to be in our home, near the Kennedy School. I'd love to have somebody watch her 2-3 mornings a week, from 9 to 1. This would be a great assignment for a college or grad student! We'd also love to find somebody who would be open to some babysitting opportunities in the evenings on an as-needed basis.
Email me and we'll talk about schedule, payment, your experience caring for kids, etc. katemill@aracnet.com
thanks!

part-time nanny/sitter needed in inner SE

I was just offered a part-time job that I'd love to take. However, there's that pesky issue of childcare, as our beloved part-time sitter is having her own child soon, and won't be available for much longer.

The job is very flexible, and I plan on starting out working 10-15 hours a week. My ideal situation for now would be to work 1-1/2 or 2 full days a week, depending on your availability. If you want just mornings or just afternoons (or some combination) that could work out too!

We have two easy-going, super friendly boys, age 2 and 4-3/4. The older one is in preschool 4 mornings a week through early June, two mornings a week starting in July, and full-day Kindergarten in the fall. Depending on my schedule and carpool availability, it might be necessary to pick him up from school on occasion. We have a large playroom full of all their favorite toys (cars, trains, legos, blocks, games, toy kitchen, art supplies, etc), tons of books that they adore having read to them, and live close to several great parks and coffee shops. We have memberships to OMSI, Zoo, Children's Museum, and the art museum, though they're usually more than content to play here or in the neighborhood.

Childcare provider must be reliable, non-smoking, First Aid/CPR certified, have excellent references, a good driving record, and willing to submit to a background check. No cleaning or housekeeping is expected, other than supervising/helping the boys put away their toys and books after they're done with them. Minimal cooking/food prep required, just simple lunches and snacks. We do have one (mostly) indoor cat. Pay rate negotiable and based on experience.

If you're available and interested, please contact me - jjfantastic@hotmail.com

Daytime Babysitter needed for 3/19, 20 and 25th, SE PDX

My husband is a stay-at-home dad and musician. He's playing a little tour and we need someone to watch our two year old daughter so I don't have to take off work.  The dates are March 19 1-5:15, March 20th 8am - 3:00 or so (he'll be driving back from Bend), Tuesday March 25 2-5:15.  Our daughter is a  lot of fun, agreeable and funny but a bit shy with new people. We were hoping to find someone to come to our house in SE (Woodstock-ish) in order to keep her in familiar surroundings.  Please drop me an email if you or someone you could recommend might be able to help.

Thanks!

Looking for a better way to find a nanny?

Introducing Portland's newest nanny agency: Olive.You.Nanny!

Olive.You.Nanny is a unique agency that matches families with amazing nannies. What makes us so unique? Highly personalized service. We pride ourselves in conducting in-depth, face-to-face interviews with all the families and nannies we work with. This is not Craigslist nanny searching!

Before we send a nanny out to meet a family, they must first meet our high standards (CPR-certified, at least one year child care experience, excellent references, at least 18-years-old, and a great personality to match!), interview with the agency, and have their references and background checked.

We're an agency created by and run by former nannies, with offices in Chicago, Atlanta and now, Portland!

Check out our website, www.oliveyounanny.com, for more information about the agency, plus a helpful FAQ section about hiring and keeping a new nanny.

Need Preschool or Daycare in NW PDX Please!

I have searched everywhere and can only find one or two preschools listed for NW PDX.  Does anyone know of any other than Childpeace and Fruit and Flower?

Suggestions for NE childcare centers!!

We currently have a full-time nanny for our soon-to-be 1 year old daughter.  We'd like to move her into a childcare center and have been frustrated by the lack of options for non-preschool age children.  We've visited Child Roots and Growing Seeds and have been very impressed.  However, the wait list for both seems immense!  Does anyone have suggestions for other childcare centers located in NE (we're open to N as well)?  We're open to a variety of days (although 4 per week would be ideal).  Thanks in advance!!

Need Friday caregiver for 3.5 mo old baby

My son is 14 weeks old and I am going to be returning to work part time in 2 weeks.  Luckily, my husband is able to be with him most of the time that I am gone.  However, we need help on Fridays (about 8:45 AM until 1 PM).  I think the fact that this is a short time period is making it difficult to find a good match.  I'd like a person who is experienced with infants and will be loving and understanding.  He is a cute, healthy baby who likes to be held and go on walks.  He is starting to play with toys and can entertain himself for a little while, but he does like a lot of attention - as babies should.  One on one would be great, but I am also interested in a nanny share, a SAHM w/ an older child or maybe even the right family style daycare. I live in SE Portland - would be open to care in my home or yours.  Pay neg.  Please e-mail me if you are interested - Thanks!

Suggestions for N/NE Preschools, Please!

i'm posting a wide open question regarding opinions about Portland preschools in N & NE.  I am completely overwhelmed by the choices and have no idea where to start.  I'd love to hear some opinions about your favorite preschools and why you love them in both N & NE Portland.  I need to get on the ball for Fall enrollment for my 2 1/2 year old and I'm worried that I've already missed the boat.  I'm looking for a a warm, nurturing environment that is very creative and arts focused if possible.  Thanks for your input!

NE Nanny Needed

We are a very happy family in the close-in, NE Portland area with a brand new baby on the way. Yes, this will be our first. Yes, we’re giddy about it. And yes, we want good and healthy things for this tiny person who already owns our hearts. That is exactly why we are looking for a nanny to help our family.

In short, we’re looking
for someone wonderful.  We’d like to meet a person who feels like part of our daily life, not an employee.  We know life with a new baby will have its bumps and moments, and we’d like an experienced person to help us through – a person who feels like part of the team so to speak.

Here’s our wish list:

At least 7 years of experience –  bonus kudos for infant care experience
A list of references we can call and chat with
Infant-CPR certified
Be ok with a sweet goofy dog around
Part time care to start with: Tuesday – Thursday
  beginning in September 2008
Additional babysitting for much-missed date nights possible
A safe car

A sense of responsibility and a sense of humor

We’re happy to pay our nanny between
$9-15 an hour depending on experience
We’re open to a nanny share in our home.

If this feels like we’re talking about you, we’d like to meet you and learn more. Please send your resume to us as soon as possible:  tallducks@gmail.com

Thank you.
