Lee Owen Stone Preschool Open House

Hi PDX Mamas-

I wanted to let you know the Lee Owen Stone Preschool is having it's annual open house on Saturday Feb 23rd from 10 to 4 pm.  We are located at 2728 NE 34th Ave right be Grant Park.  We will be taking applications for both 3 year olds and 4 year olds for the 2008-2009 school year. Check out our web site www.leeowenstone.org for more information.

Lee Owen Stone is a co-op preschool that has been in exsistence since 1965.  Maggie Lewis our teacher leads a play based mixed age classroom.  She has two masters one in Educational Media and Curriculm design and the other in Special Education. Our two and three day half day programs are $115.00 and $85.00 per month.  We have a large facility located in the Grant Park Church.  For outdoor play we are a short walk from Grant Park and for indoor play such as bike riding and ball play we have a indoor gym with hand painted Dr. Suess Lorax mural.

Parents of children with special needs are encouraged to apply.  Maggie is a wonderful resource and is very comfortable working on IFSP's and with children of all different abilities.  We currently have a diverse class with a few children who recieve specialized services as part of thier day at school.

Creative Nanny Available

Hello!

I am seeking a part or full-time nanny position approx. 30-40 hours per week in total.  I prefer working with children 2 and under, especially infants.  I have 4+ years of nanny experience and 10 years of other caretaking experience.  I'm college educated, musically and artistically oriented, and a lover of nature.  I am looking for families who are dedicated to living holistically and sustainably and who tend towards attachment parenting styles.  I am currently working for a family with whom I don't quite fit... so finding folks that I click with is absolutely essential.  My hourly rate is $12+, I currently get $13.  I will be available to start sometime in February.  Ideally I would like to work in N, NE, or NW Portland close-in.  If you're interested call me at (503) 318-6957 or email gumpjm@yahoo.com.

Thanks!
Jeane

Seeking suggestions for a PT Montessori School

I am having a difficult time locating a Montessori school that offers two or three half days.  Is anyone attending a school they love on a part-time basis?

Sunnyside Mennonite does offer a three day program.  I am curious if anyone with experience can tell me how religious instruction is handled.  Is it a lesson during the day?

Thank you for your help.

Nurturing Infant/Toddler Childcare Available

What if you could go to work every day and feel great about your baby’s care? What if your baby could be nurtured in a small, beautiful, cozy, peaceful environment?

Child Light Infant Nursery has one full time opening for a child 8 to 18 months.

When parents visit our intimate yet spacious nursery, their response is unanimous and immediate – I didn’t know something like this existed. I want this for my child!

How are we different? The environment is inspired by Waldorf principles to support your child holistically, including eco-sensitive fabrics and toys, and daily contact with the lush natural surroundings. The caregivers are exceptionally dedicated professionals who provide your baby with the same loving care and constant attention you may not have imagined possible outside your own home. That’s why infants don’t just grow in our care – they bloom.

We’re nestled in the Jennings Lodge neighborhood of Milwaukie, ten minutes south of Sellwood and three minutes north of the I-205 Oregon City exit. As the founder, I have fifteen years experience working with infants and toddlers. Our entire staff is on the criminal history registry and has current CPR and first aid cards. We provide care Monday-Friday from 7 am – 6 pm. The cost is $56 dollars per day, similar to other programs but with so much more for your baby and peace of mind for your whole family.

We also host monthly gatherings for parents to share, learn, stay closely involved, and support one another in community.

Thank you!

Help? Looking for East Indian nanny-of-sorts

My 5 month old is half East Indian and I really want him to be exposed more to his Indian heritage than just the few visits to family in Yakima, WA and India now and then.  Since language can be soaked up easily from a young age and I could use a hand looking after my son while I get some things done, I'm looking for an Indian woman that speaks Hindi and/or Gujarati to come to my house a few times a week for a few hours at a time.  I'd like for her to speak these languages to my son while she is spending time with he and I. As an added bonus, if she could teach me to cook some of the regional dishes of Gujarat that would be fantastic!

BAsically, I'm looking for a surrogate Auntie to spend time with him and teach him (and me!) the language and different cultural aspects we're unable to. His uncles, aunties and cousins thank you!!!

I can be reached at:  engravlin@yahoo.com

Thanks!

Erin and Taj Dhruva

Nanny Duo!

Hello uMamas and Papas,
I am the mother of a very dynamic and sociable one-year-old, and we want to take care of your children while you continue your important work of saving the planet, our lives, and everyone's peace of mind!

I have been steeped in Montessori philosophy and practice from birth, and since adolescence have fulfilled a number of classroom roles in Montessori schools across the country. I also was the lead facilitator at an equine-assisted therapy and adventure-based education program for a couple of years, plus various stints as a private nanny thrown in here and there. I speak toddler sign language, used to be reasonably fluent in French (therefore I know that it's all still in my head somewhere), and am exceptionally good with animal noises. I have a great love, fascination, and respect for the work of being a child, and have spent most of my life studying how to be a guide to that process. I have exulted in my year as a full-time stay-at-home mom, but alas, we cannot afford it anymore. My schedule is wide open, situations where we can come to you are ideal for us, as our living situation is rather humble.

Please email me at: vivian.aubrey (at) gmail.com
Thanks!
Vivian

Patient, calm nanny needed in SE Portland

You (may) have read my blog posts, now you can work for me! My husband is starting work full-time very soon, and I work from home full-time. Add a speech-delayed (but endlessly charming) 2.5-year-old Truman; a goofy six-month-old Monroe; and occasional appearances from anxious-explosive-yet-lovable kindergartener Everett, and we have a big-time need. Advance warning: my home is on an order quest, but we're not quite THERE yet. Rough edges abound.

Monroe_truman_floor
I'm looking for someone who could be available six hours a day, weekdays (I'm thinking 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., but I'm somewhat flexible) with occasional swapping for evening or late afternoon hours. I'd be in the home the majority of the time (and breastfeeding Monroe on demand) but would be open to someone who wanted to bring his/her own child or a nanny share. We have a great playroom and are looking to make it better -- experience in Montessori or Waldorf environments would be fun to help me shape our spaces. I'd love to have someone who lived nearby (I'm a few blocks from the Trader Joe's near Holgate/39th) or on a bus line, as public transit is one of our family values.

When can you start? Email at mama @ cafemama.com and let's chat.

Childcare or Nanny referrals?

I am doing some research for childcare once I return to work and am looking for all of your great insight!  My son is currently 4 weeks old and fortunately I am able to stay home from work until the end of April.  In May, I'll be returning to work for 20 hours a week and will probably have family and my husband to care for our son during that time (although I might need to find someone to watch him for 1 day a week).  In August I'll need to find full-time childcare.  We live in Tigard and I work in Beaverton.  Does anyone have recommendations for a great childcare center?  I'm also open to looking into a Nanny come to our home during the work week.  This is our first child, so I'm new to all of this.  Any recommendations would be SO appreciated!!  I can be reached at abuyes@oregonducks.org.

Childcare needed (possible nanny share or exchange also)

Hello, I am currently looking for childcare for our 9 month old daughter. We are interested in help on Mondays and Fridays all day (with a possibility of more in the future). We live close in Northeast Portland (25th & Everett). I may also be interested in becoming part of a "nanny share" or perhaps childcare exchange. Please contact me (503)730-8415  or angelinamarchand@comcast.net if you are interested. Thank You, Angelina
