Art In Motion Studio Summer Camps

Art In Motion Studio in Southeast Portland offers wondrous and whimsical mixed media art classes for children and adults. Artist and educator Elizabeth Craig nurtures and inspires the artist within, offering students opportunities for playful and reflective encounters with new materials and ideas. Students enjoy exploration with clay, wire, paint, fiber and mixed media in classes that range from sculpture, book arts, and wire figures, to personal shrines and assemblages. Elizabeth invites each student to see their own unlimited possibilities, so the result of each student’s work is always rich and uniquely their own. My children have grown up taking Elizabeth's classes in her magical studio in SE Portland. Her approach to creating art with the kids is to facilitate the children to tell their own stories with their art. My children have come home with tree forts for elves, habitats, dragons and now most recently- dolls. My daughter, who is now 14, is still going.

Summer Sewing Camp for kids 8-12

May 02, 2010

This is the perfect class for the child who has never sewn before. They will learn sewing machine functions, the basics of fabric, using measurements, and how to sew seams. They will also get to work with a simple pattern to make a basic garment. This class will include finished projects that can be shown off and used for years to come, and of course their sewing skills will last a lifetime. Shelly has chosen wonderful projects such as a roomy reversible Tote Bag that they can use on your trips to the library or help carry home the grocery goods and envelope pillow covers to decorate their room or special spot in the house. Campers will also create a cute skirt or pair of comfy pajama bottoms. All of these great projects will allow your child to be creative with fabric choices and express their personal taste.  $135 (Class includes 3 sessions)  More info here: http://moderndomesticpdx.com/2010/03/summer-sewing-camp-for-kids/

Kids Summer Design Camps

June 03, 2008

I wanted to let you know about 4 sessions of Design Camp I am holding at my studio this summer. I have been saying that I am going to do this for several years now, and I finally am. I am super excited and am hoping there is a place to talk about it at Urban Mamas. I have a digital version of the registration form I can send you.

A little bit about me: I am a designer+crafter+author+mama living and doing in Portland. My studio is in NW Portland. I have a degree in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design (ala Project Runway...) and have worked for Ralph Lauren, Nike, Columbia Sportwear, Lucy, and Fred Meyer (sorry about dropping the names, but its the truth) I have two books published, one on fashion (How the West Was Worn) and the other is a kids book (The Ravioli Kid), and another in the works: Craft Fiction: DIY projects based on classic children's literature. I teach classes at the 100th Monkey Studio pretty regularly and spend the rest of the time as a freelance designer and mama to my 9 year old daughter.
