Now I know I live in a tiny little bubble. Every once in a great while I cast my gaze above the Portland clouds to listen to what the rest of America has to say. It helps me understand American politics and culture. And usually makes me want to pull my head right back down under the cloud layer.
This time the gals over at Moms Speak Up directed me to a conversation on CNN about working motherss staying afloat - which is about where I'm at. No beautiful butterfly stroke for this mama. The discussion was kick started by a post in which CNN's on-staff moms discuss how they juggle journalism and motherhood. I'll bet the moms over at The O's Mom Beat are reading it, too. They talk frankly about what it's like, and America is - not surprisingly - talkin' back. Fascinating stuff. Eye-opening. Prepare yourself. There are some reasonable voices to be found in the mix, I must say. In among the 'you oughtta be at home, woman' comments. My, my. Is it 2008? Happily, it is inside my little bubble.
