Mary, this is everyone. Everyone, this is Mary. There! It's done. Now we all know each other. At least that's the hope. Broaden the lens. I get the feeling there are a lotta mamas in Pdx with a lotta opinions. Why not hear 'em? Yeah, we meet other mamas at the coffee shop, storytime, the playground. But how often can you launch right in and get to the heart of it with someone you've just met?
So, Guestivistas. We hatched this concept on the fly (so what's new) and are going to try it out for a month or so and see how it goes. If the system needs tweaking (we've discussed some different approaches), then it needs tweaking. Time will tell. In the meantime, Mary's pretty interesting so let's hear what SHE has to say:
1 ~ Describe your family.
Two adoring moms, a beautiful babe, and a curious cat named Elle.
2 ~ Name one thing America is doing right for parents. The National Park Service is phenomenal. More seriously, we have myriad advantages and abundant riches in this country. It's vital that everyone have equal access and opportunity.
3 ~ Name one thing America is not doing right for parents. America has an incredibly limited definition of Family and as a result many families are rendered invisible or are not duly recognized, valued or protected.
4 ~ What's one parenting issue that really riles you up, makes you ready to work for change? My partner and I would like to get married legally and enjoy the 1000+ rights, protections, privileges that other couples enjoy.
5 ~ Who's gonna get your vote for President '08 & why? Today, I am leaning towards Obama because I think he may represent real change and he seems to have a palpable hope in democracy for all, not some.
6 ~ Name one thing Activistas could do to be a better place. This Q&A is a fantastic opportunity for diverse and differing perspectives to be shared. Thank you!
7 ~ What's your fave thing about parenting in Portland? We love exploring Portland and the Pacific Northwest, the mountains, the coast, the Gorge, the vineyards-the adventures are endless. We also love the many wonderful family-friendly communities we have found, one such community is PLOP: Parenting/Pregnant Lesbians of Portland.

To Mary and everyone else who had reason to celebrate Friday's court decision: Congratulations!

an idea to add soem room for guestivistas going forward: i'll add a final "question" in the form of: "Anything else you think we should know about you?" - I always hate that question in interviews the VERY most because I just KNOW I should say something winning about myself but usually don't! So pwerhaps we should reword the Q: Tell Us More. Anyway, point being, good idea anon.2 - thanks!
