The city's Office of Neighborhood Involvement (ONI) wants to know what you think about increasing, well, neighborhood involvement. ONI's got a draft 5-year plan to increase community involvement and now's your chance to tell them what you think about that plan. It's called Community Connect. You can weigh in online (easy, easy Survey Monkey) or do it in person at a Community Cafe on 09.25.07 from 6:30 - 8:30 PM or 09.29.07 from 1:30 - 3:30 PM. There is loads of information here. Here's what ONI says about this process:
Mayor Potter initiated Community Connect to update and sustain Portland's tradition of community involvement and better meet the needs of our changing city. Towards this end, Community Connect began with a listening process and engaged nearly 1,400 Portlanders to get their ideas about how the City can better support its communities.
Based on this extensive input and national research, the Community Connect Workgroup has developed 8 recommendations to:
- Increase the number & diversity of people who are involved in their communities,
- Strengthen community capacity, and
- Increase community impact on public decisions.
Make sure that community involvement really involves the community. If you're not sure what ONI is all about, check out our recent post about it. You'll be an expert - and maybe even a neighborhood activist - in no time!

Actually, I think the second cafe is 9/29.
