Montessori Infant Care Available in June

I'm looking for a little one to join myself and my baby (due in March) in our home come June. We are located on NE 68th and Stanton. I'm looking for a baby who will be between 3-8mths in June. I'm offering care in my home 4 days a week (flexible days) between the hours of 7:30am an 5:30pm. I'm willing to share care with more than one family (i.e. two families looking for part time care) but never having more than 2 babies, including my own, at one time. My rates are somewhat negotiable.

I'm currently the lead Toddler Guide at Cedar Montessori School http://www.cedarmontessorischool.org/ but will be leaving in March to prepare for the birth of our baby. I completed my Montessori training at Montessori Institute Northwest www.montessori-nw.org/, have a BA in Elementary Education and a minor in psychology. I'm CPR/first aid certified, have my food handler's card, and am registered in the Criminal History Registry. I completed both Birth and Postpartum Doula trainings through DONA www.dona.org/, regularly attend continuing education classes on early childhood education, and have impeccable references.

My childcare approach incorporates both Attachment Parenting and Montessori methodology. I believe all human beings need to first develop a sense of trust in the person caring for them in order to feel safe and secure in their environment. I am familiar with and very comfortable with baby wearing. I am also tuned into when a baby is ready for some independent time and will have a specially prepared space for them to explore. I believe in providing all children with a thoughtfully prepared environment where they are free to explore and learn according to their individual interests with the gentle support of an adult close by. I carefully observe children in my care and will change out materials and introduce new activities according to their development. I am familiar with Elimination Communication, use cloth diapers/underwear, and provide children with the opportunity for independence in toileting. I provide homemade and mostly organic foods, including homemade baby food, and invite the children to participate in food preparation. I believe in providing time outside on a regular basis, even if just for a brief period of time on the coldest of days. I also believe in being silly and playful with the children, playing music, creating art, and participating in imaginary play.

On a personal note: I'm an avid gardener, own chickens, enjoy knitting, quilting, hiking, biking, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Our family consists of myself, our soon to be little one, my partner, his nearly 17 year old brother, and a very friendly cat.

We look forward to opening up our home to you and your little one! Please email me with any questions and I'd be more than happy to provide you with my resume and references, as well as to set up a time to meet.

Infant/Toddler nanny seeking new family in inner pdx

Hello,

My name is Wendy and I have been working in the child care industry for the past 3.5 years, however, I have over 10 years experience caring for children, including raising a step son.  I have passed a National background check and Oregon's background check for child care workers. I am First Aid/CPR Certified and have obtained 400+ hours in Early Childhood Education. There for I am confident that I have the experience and the qualifications that you are seeking in a caregiver.

Most of my experience is with wobblers and toddlers (1-3 year olds) as this is my favorite age group.  I do however; have experience with children of all ages. I have cared for children on a one-on-one basis and in a group setting.   I am a mature individual seeking a long term, part, or fulltime position.

I am a very fun loving and active nanny.  I believe that children, especially babies, are learning and absorbing things all the time.  I enjoy fostering this learning and natural curiosity by stimulating them with fun and educational activities.   I also enjoy taking them on walks, setting up play dates, taking them to any classes that you might have them signed up in, and other age appropriate outings.

I am pet friendly, have experience with expressed milk and cloth diapers.   When the time comes I also have experience with potty-training.   I believe in little to no television, I make sure that all schedules are followed, I encourage verbal skills by talking and reading to the children, and I try to get out of the house once a day.

I generally charge $12/hr for one, $14/hr for 2, and $15 for 3, but I am willing to negotiate to fit your budget.    My rate includes light housekeeping, generally centered on the children.

I have a resume, references, and many more details to give.  Please contact me at pwhobear@gmail.com, atyour earliest convenience.

 Thank you,

Wendy

WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND HAWTHORNE FAMILY PLAYSCHOOL’S OPEN HOUSE ON FEB 11TH

  HFP Logo
Hi Urban Mamas!

It’s school choice time again and many of you are trying to decide where to send your preschooler.   I was fortunate enough to find Hawthorne Family Playschool or "HFP" when our daughter was ready for school and, four years later, I consider myself fortunate to still be a part of this program and community with our son.

I didn’t set out to look for a co-operative preschool, but I’m so glad this is the direction we chose for our family.  Maybe this seems obvious to others, but I only recently began to see our co-op as a kind of social experiment.  The phrase “it takes a village to raise a child” is something many of us pay lip service to, but we rarely if ever have the opportunity to test it in any real way.

Hayride

At HFP, 28 families elect every year to run a school together. I’m not sure everyone sees it quite that way when they enroll, but that’s really what it boils down to.  It’s true we have a framework and culture already in place from previous years and we have an indispensable visionary and leader in our Teacher, Susan Eisman.  That said, I believe our program’s success lies less in following a successful formula, and more in truly connecting with each other around a common goal – in this case, raising our children.

Outside Play

Over time, I have come to realize that a co-op like ours helps parents learn and grow, not just children.  Being a part of a tight-knit community like ours is an incredible opportunity to build something bigger than just a school program.  Families in a co-op tend to get very close because we really do play together.  We get to know (and love!) each-other’s children through parent-helping.  There is also a greater level of trust between us because we all work so closely together.

Community

It’s a wonderful feeling watching my children deepen relationships with people that I feel connected to as well.  I also have a much greater ability to help them navigate these relationships when I have some personal insight to offer.  As a community, we can give each other friendship and support, both emotional and material.  We encourage our families to reach out to each other for playdates, arrange childcare swaps, share ideas and resources, and generally just tap into the positive energy that comes from connecting with each other around the children we love.

Branch wall

I don’t know for sure if our school is right for your family, but I feel certain that it is one of the best early childhood programs available and one that everyone should seriously consider.  In my mind, it’s a bit of a hidden gem, and I want to encourage you to check out our Open House on Saturday, February 11th (10am to 1pm).  We do give enrollment priority to families who attend, so mark your calendars!  I’m sure you’ll come with lots of questions that we’re happy to answer, but here are some of the important things to know about us:

HFP Logo
Hawthorne Family Playschool or “HFP” is a small, mixed-age cooperative preschool, just south of the Hawthorne Safeway under construction in SE Portland.  Being a cooperative, HFP is a great place for families that want to be active participants in their child's early development.

We have the smallest class size of any of the eastside co-ops, with a maximum of 14 students with at least three adults (one teacher plus two scheduled parents helpers).  We also enjoy additional support from interns and benefit from a culture that encourages parents to participate.

At farm with Susan

Our teacher, Susan Eisman, has been working with children for more than twenty years and, in addition to holding a degree in art and women's studies, has completed master's level work in human development with a focus on the stages of childhood.  She draws her philosophy from many quality programs like Reggio Emilia and Waldorf without being overly dogmatic.  She is a deep thinker and a sweet soul, and she encourages us to think and talk about why our kids do what they do and how we can be supportive in their discovery of themselves as individuals and part of a group.

Elephant Tube

We are a diverse community of parents who place a high value on creating an environment that supports a preschooler's natural curiosity.  I was initially drawn to the school because I loved the emphasis on natural materials and getting fresh air and exercise without pre-scripting play with traditional play structures.  Our kids climb hay bales, balance on boards, scale our branch wall and have pretend tea parties in tee pees.  The Oregon Environmental Council designated HFP as an eco-healthy preschool and our kids enjoy healthy, vegetarian snacks each day.

Snack

Our program is heavily play-based, which I wasn't sure about at first, but I have come to appreciate the fact that 3, 4 and 5 year olds learn much of what they need to know from play and personal discovery.  I wondered if a play-based preschool would adequately prepare my children for kindergarten, but I now firmly believe that being part of a community like ours lays the foundation for lifelong curiosity and learning.  I also see how much better high-energy kids like my son thrive in an environment that supports their need to move their busy bodies.

Digging

I encourage all of you to come visit HFP at our Open House between 10am and 1pm on Saturday, February 11th and meet Susan Eisman, our very special teacher, and our community of deeply involved parents who are the other ingredient to making this a great environment.  Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about our school or the co-op experience.

Warmly,

Shannon Rhoads

February 09, 2012

Hello! We are a small family farm named Diggin' Livin' Farm and Apiary located in southwestern Oregon, Cave Junction. We are seeking mostly a nanny position. We have three wonderful girls ages 8 years, 4 years and 6 months. We homeschool mostly in the Waldorf ways with heavy emphasis on farm life. We have a really cute schoolbus with a raised roof, insulated throughout, and includes a kitchen. It's next to our house and where you'd live. We'd like the person to help with childcare, homeschooling, and cleaning about 15 hours a week. We'd also like for the person to help with our farm business about 10 hours a week. And if the person also had some computer skills, perhaps they could help me with my Etsy page and computer organizing about 3 hours a week. If interested, please email your resume to digginlivin@gmail.com

Seeking feedback on Village Childcare on North Michigan Ave

I am thinking about registering my 7 month old and 3.5 year old here but have not heard much about it. The space inside and play areas outside seem great, the location and hours are super convienient and it is reasonably priced. I did not get to meet all of the teachers but the owner seems smart and good with kids. I've been scrambling to line up full time childcare and it is one of the few places with openings so of course I wonder if there is a reason for that? Would love to hear experiences from other parents!

Step by Step Childcare

Step by Step has been providing quality childcare for over twenty years!  We are an in home childcare off NE 33rd and Fremont for children three months to three years. We currently have openings for these ages!

  IMG_2736

The philosophy we follow at Step by Step is one of allowing the children to explore and learn from their surroundings, in a loving and relaxed atmosphere. The children are able to choose from an array of activities that encourage the natural development of coordination, social interaction, problem solving, and language.  These areas of development are represented by such activities as puzzles, climbing structures, dress-up, art and books.

IMG_2763

We strive to nurture a child's spirit, a strong and healthy self-esteem is the foundation of future learning. Our day is unstructured and very much dictated by the interests of the children; it is full of cuddling with the infants, doing messy art projects with the toddlers, going on nature walks, digging in our sand box, riding bikes, and so much more. Toddlers have a natural desire for independence and we respect and encourage this independence by helping the children to do things for themselves. We practice getting dressed, putting on shoes and coats, using the potty, and cleaning up

We serve fresh organic fruits and vegetables daily, and all other foods are natural and additive free. For infants, we use a combination of disposable and cloth diapers (parents preference), that we provide. Our hours of operation are 7:30-5:30 M-F.

Loving, one-on-one care in Vancouver

Frontroomdaycare1Hello and welcome to Misty's Little Ones Daycare. My name is Misty McCleary, owner/teacher at Misty's Little Ones Daycare. I strongly believe in children being in a safe, home environment during the younger years of their life while they are away from their primary caregivers. I offer just that: While parents are at work, school or out running errands, I offer a safe place with lots of love, learning and individual attention for your child. If you have multiple children, great I welcome them!

In my home, I have created a nurturing and loving environment where children are encouraged to explore, share their interests and to have their needs met. My goal in this environment, is to have it feel like home to the child, so they can feel comfortable and welcomed.

Thaliaonbikefeb2012

While I strive hard to learn about each child's comfort level, I also want to learn about their development and interests to keep them interested and engaged as well as comfortable and curious. I think it also helps the child to boost their confidence of having their needs met when the caregiver understands what those needs are.

I believe in respecting the child from birth as a whole and cuing into their needs right away. This will include using sign language from a very young age, always talking respectful to the child and parents, letting children know what's next and letting children do things for themselves.

Parent communication is essential to building a relationship and to help us better understand your child's needs. I encourage drop-ins, parent participation and ideas you may have. Please feel free to talk to me about any concerns or questions you might have anytime.

We also do a little bit of urban farming. We raise 5 chickens & do a bit of gardening in the Spring!

As the oldest child development center in North Portland, we put 40 years of experience into our high-quality early childhood education program.

Our curriculum is centered around The Creative Curriculum , a nationally recognized, developmentally appropriate, research-based curriculum framework. Exploring this framework within a stable and enriching environment through the positive, nurturing and engaging relationship between your child and teacher promotes problem-solving, critical thinking, social-emotional development and content area skills.

Nestled in one of North Portland’s quietest neighborhoods, our location has great access to I-5 and yellow line Max. I have multiple years of experience (total of 10 years childcare experience) working with children ages 0-8. Great families for you to contact that can attest to my ability to be on-time and engaging with children of any age.

I am well-versed in Montessori learning style as well as a bit of knowledge in attachment parenting. Comfortable with cloth diapers (assisting with diaper laundry and children's laundry as well) and feeding expressed milk as well. I'm flexible, easy-going and a great communicator. I am happy to provide a daily rundown of what we did, etc.

I'm cpr/first aid certified, have taken the RRCAN class, am in the process of completing my food handlers certification, and am enrolled in Oregon Criminal History Registry # (for working in a childcare center). Previously background checked through DHS for 3 years, open to having background check run as well as having two through reputable childcare sites (sittercity.com and care.com). Non-smoker, valid license/insurance and reliable vehicle for transportation (Plymoth Neon, seats 5 total).

Engaging and active; I do multiple activities with children from sensory play (shaving cream, paint, play dough, etc.) to arts and crafts with older children. Familiar with assisting in school-aged learning, assisting with writing/reading, spelling, abc's, 123's, colors, shapes, etc. Primary focus working with children ages 0-6.

I can and will take your children on outings if you would like, am able to assist with errand running/shopping if necessary as well as light household chores (dishes unloaded or loaded, light sweeping, child laundry/room cleanup, etc.). I love going to the park even if it's wet, and love to puddle jump!

If you're interested, please feel free to email me with all pertinent information such as: your care needs (frequency, total hours, daily schedule if varied), a bit about your family/children (names/ages/a bit about them) and what you are expecting to pay.

My hourly rate is $12.50 per hour, for 1-2 children. I base my price on your needs, family size, as well as location and am slightly flexible with families that can provide me with stability as I can for them. :)

For inquiry/interest please email educatoralicia@gmail.com or call (971)-217-8414. If I do not answer please leave a message; I do not return calls without one since I can't be sure who I am attempting to contact!

Nanny Available

Hello mommies and daddies! My name is Lauren and I'm searching for a new family to work for that is loving, laid back, and easy to communicate with. I've spent the last year and a half working with one family with their now 20 month old little girl, and I have loved every second of being her nanny. Together we have grown from tummy time, bottles, and babbling to talking, walking, eating homemade solid foods, zoo outings, splashing in fountains and reading stories. It has been an absolute delight to watch and help her grow into a sweet well mannered toddler from the teensy little 4 month old she was when I started, and I'm very sad to say goodbye. But, mama is pregnant and wants to be at home with her kids, so I have to find a new wonderful family.

I grew up in Aloha, Oregon and now live in SW Portland. I'm willing to commute to NE, but would prefer something on the west side (NW, SW, downtown pdx, Beaverton, Lake Oswego, etc). I'm in my early twenties, CPR/first aid certified, don't smoke, have my own car/valid license/insurance, and attended NW Nannies Institute here in Portland. I love to read and like to do artsy things like crafts, sewing, painting, etc. in my free time.

What I'm hoping to find is a family with an infant (newborn to 2 yrs). I feel most comfortable working with babies, love the relationship that is formed as they grow and become attached to you, and they are what I have the most experience with. I would prefer to work for families that don't have parents working from home, but am flexible on this if they have their own office/work space. 30-40 hours a week , with a long term commitment would be perfect. I am not looking to do a nanny share. Resume/excellent references upon request. If this sounds like the nanny you are looking for, then please email me at countrycutie22@gmail.com and feel free to ask me anything!

Thanks for your time!

Lauren

The Garden's Noise Preschool is accepting applications

GN1[1] About: At The Garden’s Noise Preschool, the garden is the heart of our community where we explore, celebrate and play. Children plant seeds, tend their own garden, gather eggs from the hen house, and watch chrysalides become butterflies. We play with mud, sand, and water, winnow wheat and grind it into flour, bake bread and churn butter.

A spacious organic garden forms the rhythm for everything we do, from the seasonal songs we sing, to the art projects we create. In fall, we celebrate the harvest by drying apples and baking pies. In the winter, we tend a feeding station to care for the birds and squirrels. We celebrate May Day, till the soil and sow seeds, await the blossom of our first bulbs and the hatch of chicks each spring.

As a small community, we learn to share and talk with each other, resolve conflicts and listen to one another. Working together, children plant flats of squash, cucumbers, and other vegetables, nurturing them into transplantable starts, which we donate to a local non-profit organization.  At The Garden's Noise Preschool, we strive to create an environment where children can grow as healthy, happy persons able to live more fully in the world, thus making it a better place.

The school is located in SE Portland near SE 50th & Stark
It is open from Monday to Friday, 9am-1pm, Sept to June

Montessori Children's House -- OPEN HOUSE, Wed. Feb. 8

Header

OPEN HOUSE:

Wednesday February 8th, 6-7:30PM

Your family is warmly invited to the Montessori Children's House open house on Wednesday February 8th, 6-7:30PM.  Our open houses provide an opportunity for prospective families to meet MCH staff and explore our environment.  We are currently enrolling for the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 school years.

IMG_7184

We currently have openings for Toddlers (15 months - 36 months) and Primary children (3-6).

Montessori Children's House offers both  Toddler and Primary Montessori programs.  Located in Portland's newest neighborhood, the South Waterfront, we are still relatively 'undiscovered.'

We have mixed-age groups -- a Toddler Community (for children 15 months - 36 months) and two Primary classes ranging from three years (or a bit younger) up through kindergarten age. In 2010-2011 we had one primary class; this year (2011-2012) we have expanded our program in order to run two Primary classes.   We are enrolling children now and do not yet have a waiting list.  Remaining spaces are limited, however, especially in the toddler community.

Check our website for information about our Summer Program.

'We toured a total of six schools before we found the right one for our daughter. We even enrolled her in another one prior to Montessori Children's House only to pull her out because we were disappointed in our experience there. I wish that we had discovered this school sooner! It would have saved us a lot of stress.'

Photo 3

'The space itself is gorgeous, all new, beautiful learning areas, just what you would imagine a top notch Montessori school to look like...The location on South Waterfront is very easy to get to and from, parking is right in front of the main door and the teachers will even greet the kids at your car. We highly recommend Montessori Children’s House!'

Two day per week opening at Little Hands Garden School available

LH_PrimaryLogo-Color-Print

Little Hands Garden School is an Eco-healthy preschool located on Hawthorne @59th on the edge of Mt. Tabor.  We are a home-based program with a ratio of 2:8.  Our hours are 9-1, M-Th.

Lunch and one to two snacks (mostly organic, always homemade) are
provided daily.  Our activities include a drama, song/music circle, reading,
snack, art, outdoor play (gardening or other), dance/yoga/games,
baking, lunch, story time, and more outdoor play.  We also do field
trips on Mt. Tabor and to neighborhood parks.  We are outside all day
when the weather permits.
Our current plays are 3 Little Pigs, Billy Goats Gruff, and Abiyoyo.  You can view these on our you tube channel LHGardenSchool, or use the link below:

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8A06DF8CDB30DB6D

We believe all curriculum needs to be inquiry-based, and
is modeled upon the interests of our students.  Our schedule
changes daily as we sometimes get so involved in our projects we
forget the time...... which is kind of the goal, really.  We draw from
many pedagogical ideologies including Reggio Emilia, Waldorf and
Montessori.  At our school children are free to play, to be outside
with the chickens, bunnies, or in the garden, free to run, scream,
sing, dance, dress up, hug, read, rest, paint, glue, glitter, explore,
dig, hang from a trapeze, get dirty, get naked, and make as many
messes as they want.  The only No's are things that could hurt
yourself or others.  This is above all a place for children to be free
to explore the world as they wish.

Tuition is as follows, paid monthly:
1 day/wk $160
2 days/wk $320
3 days/wk $480
4 days/wk $600

We accept children ages 3-5.   We look for a long-term commitment when we welcome a new family, as we form a special relationship with each child and don't like to say
goodbye until Kindergarten.
For more information or to schedule a tour Call Erin Cowan, MA, ED at 503 481-5189 or email us at littlehandsgardenschool@gmail.com
Thank you!

YOUR VERY OWN CERTIFIED MONTESSORI TEACHER

Hello!

Are you a parent interested in having your own experienced Montessori teacher for your child? I am an experienced Montessori teacher trained at The Montessori Institute of Minnesota, with a Masters degree in Education and Child Development from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland. Before this I was most recently a teacher at a local Montessori elementary school, and prior to that taught at the Montessori Children's Community in the Dominican Republic. I also have over four years experience as a nanny from birth to age four, and have over ten years experience working with children between the ages of birth to age 12. I have reliable transportation and am willing to work throughout the Portland metro area.

What I do goes beyond child care. I create and teach age-appropriate Montessori activities (if desired by parents) and enjoy many teachable moments as they arise. My method is more akin to in-home preschool/ elementary school with a large dose of silliness and fun. I love assisting children in their own discoveries and activities, such as art, cooking, gardening/plant care, flower arranging, the Spanish language, and much much more depending on the needs and interests of each unique child.

Should you be interested, I am also offering an additional service wherein I can create an age-appropriate Montessori environment in your home, which maximizes your child's independence and fosters opportunities for learning. This can be accomplished on almost any budget.

I am infant/child CPR and first-aid certified and bilingual (Spanish), and am currently seeking full time work. I am also willing to do some evening/weekend work.

I look forward to meeting and working with you and your children!

References and resume available upon request. Email amyponcez@gmail.com or call (503) 702-9832.

Baby Nanny/Guide seeking sweet one in need :)

I am a seasoned Nanny/Guide who has been learning from little one's for well over 20 years now. I have learned about love, stillness and how the sweetest moments are the spontaneous ones. I continue to be Amazed and awed at the natural joy that eminates from children's hearts. I feel blessed to be able to encourage little ones along their very unique path. I bring safety, calm, kindness, emotional integrity, compassion, spirituality and love to the wee ones in my care. My path is to be mature and playful. To allow space for the littles to direct their own learning through play. To be silly and joyful. To be grounded and calm.To enjoy the spirit of nature and all the incredible learning that comes from Mother Earth.

I am looking for a family that values calm as well as action. A family that has some sort of spiritual foundation. A family that values emotional health as well as physical and mental. A family with a big heart :)

If you think we may like each-other , than please give me a shout out !

I have very strong references to share if we get to that point.

I am looking for around 25-40 hours a week and I live close to New Seasons on Se Division. I would love to be with an infant that needs a nurturing spirit friend. And, I don't drive by choice.

Montessori Infant Care Available in June

February 02, 2012

I'm looking for a little one to join myself and my baby (due in March) in our home come June. I'm looking for another baby who will be between 3-8mths in June. I'm offering care in my NE home 4 days a week (flexible days) between the hours of 7:30am an 5:30pm. I'm open to working with families looking for only part time care and my rates are negotiable.

My husband and I are the parents of an adorable nearly 4 month old baby girl. We need to return to work pretty full time at the end of February and are looking into options for child care. If you are a family in a NE/SE neighborhood near Hollywood who might be interested in a nanny share (perhaps you have a similar age or older child/children?), let us know. We'd be open to hosting or alternating hosting a nanny. Ideally this would be M-F or M-Th from about 8/9-4:30/5.

Let me know if you're interested!

40th Birthday 041

For families who live, work or play in North/Northeast Portland and parents who want the best possible education for their 6-week to 5-year old children, Peninsula Children’s Center
offers a comprehensive, high-quality early childhood program. In addition to our full-day classrooms we now have a part-day preschool classroom for 3-5 year old children who are potty-trained.

Access to the right resources is what you can count on at Peninsula starting with our family and activities coordinator who meets with each family upon enrollment to assess the individual needs of you and your child. Additionally, we offer free parent education seminars, free vision and hearing screening, a nurse practitioner and early childhood specialists, and a whole lot more.

Nestled in one of North Portland’s quietest neighborhoods, our location has great access to I-5 and yellow line Max. The building and grounds comprise a whole city block with trails; learning gardens; and two large, partially-covered play areas to allow your child to be engaged through play, dialogue and collaboration.

We have openings now for children ages 12 months - 5 years old!

Hi! I'm an experienced nanny looking for a new nanny position I've been working as a fulltime nanny for more than 8 years now. I've worked for several families and children of varied ages.
